Kelsey Grammer's the latest to bail on Piers Morgan

Perhaps there's something in the air in the green room, because the strangest things seem to happen on Piers Morgan's talk show.

The latest disappearing act was pulled on Wednesday by scheduled guest Kelsey Grammer, who apparently caught a photo of his ex-wife, Camille, during an opening segment of "Piers Morgan Tonight" and then decided to make an exit.

"Extraordinary," Morgan tweeted. "Never had this happen before."

The CNN host recalled having "a very friendly chat with Kelsey backstage," with the actor saying that "he was really looking forward to the interview."

While Morgan joked that perhaps Grammer caught some of Simon Cowell's "X Factor" in the green room and started to feel ill, he didn't seem to find the actor's walk-out all that funny.

"I like Kelsey Grammer personally, but this was a shockingly unprofessional thing to do," Morgan posted. "I wasn't even going to mention his ex-wife!"

But this isn't the first time that a guest has gone AWOL: Last summer, Christine O'Donnell bailed on "Piers Morgan Tonight" in the middle of the interview, followed by former "X Factor" host Steve Jones pretending to "storm off," as he'd seen it been done before.

Sometimes even when a guest does stay, the conversation can grow so contentious that you're surprised when they *don't* make an exit, as was the case with Robert Blake.

Rep. Todd Akin, meanwhile, didn't even show up for his "Piers Morgan Tonight" interview at all.

These upsets don't appear to have ruffled Morgan's feathers, though. The host tweeted Thursday that he'll be on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" later, and assured Fallon that "unlike my guest Mr Grammer last night, I won't run away."

I think that you can do with a few pics to drive the message home a little bit, but other than that, this is great blog. A great read. Piers has had a few awesome guests on his show and usually has a fairly interesting program. The one things that sort of rubs me the wrong way is the one singular question that has become his standards, "How many times have you truly been in love"? While this may be of interest to those that live in the reality world of today's media, I don't think it is an appropriate question to ask a US Supreme Court Judge – Antonin Scalia as he did this past weekend. For Pete's sake, format your show to the character of your guest. At least on the justice's part he had the courtesy to answer it without any show of disdain or mockery. For Pete's sake, conduct an interview with the same class that Larry King did for 30 years; get off your high horse; and, quite running amok from your guests when they offer up responses that are not in-line with your own viewpoints. Be open and listen – that is more important than asking the question.

Really disappointed with Piers Morgan... he should have stuck with his reality TV contests... as a "journalist" he fails to deliver... instead he aggressively pushes a sensationalist, and often "lefty" agenda... yuck

Another example of why CNN is going downhill....

I don't trust Piers Morgan....and don't like him as a talk show host. He's unpredictable and hard on his guests. Grammar may have sensed the potential for a crappy interview and ducked out, however now Morgan is using it to put him down in his blogs and whenever he can. I hope his show goes off the air. He's not a very professional, trustworthy individual that people would feel free to open up to.

Kudos – you rock Kelsey – Piers Morgan is a pathetic low life that constantly sets people up to start crap – you know darn well he would have mentioned the ex – I havent watched him since he interviewed Kirk. I'd say these stars trying to beat booze and drugs like Kelsey and Robert have done something extraordinary in a world that pretty much slams it down your throat to start and then abandons you when it gets too much.

I don't watch Piers Morgan after his Trevon Martin comments. He's variously lightweight, insulting, fawning, and boring. He's also up to his eyes in Rupert Murdoch and phone hacking and gutter journalism, and he's not intelligent (Larry King was smart as a whip). Morgan drags down the good name of CNN big-time. He's held in contempt by his fellow journalists–Anderson Cooper now just ignores him–and the last thing CNN needs is Murdoch non-journalism on CNN. Morgan can get a good, high-paying job at Fox News, where he belongs. But the bottom line is he's boring. He can't even manage to hold a single guest for an entire hour–instead we get a few unimportant celebrities, most of whom I've never heard of, and a lot of pandering and giggling and nothing of substance. Morgan is an ass and he's not a journalist and he doesn't belong on CNN. I've stopped watching him, and the fact that he's an employee of CNN makes me think much less of CNN as a serious journalistic enterprise.

I disagree that Larry King was smart as a whip. Larry King was great at interviwing celebrities regarding pop culture issues but he did not have the intellectual gravitas to delve into weightier issues such as politics, economics etc..

Piers Morgan is better at these weightier issues.

Pierce makes his interviews into showcases of his personal beliefs sometimes, and assumes a posture that is combative...not intentionally, but through his body language, tone of voice, etc.

Larry King always tried to make people feel comfortable and NOT inject his personal views into things. He had good friends that were Democrats, Republicans, Religious, non-religious, etc. I like Pierce's more pointed interviews, but he needs to make the guests feel more comfortable and keep his personal beliefs out of it.

CS – I agree with your comments regarding Piers, however, how childish is it for a grown man to see a picture of his ex-wife flashed on a screen for a few seconds and then simply get up and walk out on a scheduled interview? VERY childish. I mean, c'mon, you're an adult Kelsey, act like one. Grow some stones.
Everyone these days, if ANYTHING makes them the least bit uncomfortable, they simply walk away. Be an adult about it, go in, face the music, and be grateful that someone like Piers is giving you the opportunity in a comfortable setting to actually talk about yourself and your accomplishments.
Be grateful people for the positive publicity. Be grateful it's NOT a tabloid trying to exploit you. Be grateful you have a job.
And as for Mr. Grammar, nope, just lost what little respect I had for him.

But if he felt that way, clearly he didn't find out about Morgan's style while he was in the Green Room. People prepped him for the interview, his people scheduled it. I'd like to see what he'd do to a cast member who decided "not to show up" or "walk off" the set of his TV series.

No excuse for unprofessional behavior. Kelsey knows Piers is going to go to the acromonios end of his previous marriage. I'm sure he's tired of talking about it, but guess what? I'm tired of all of the self promotion celebrities do! Having their personal lives invaded is part of what celebrities sign on for, for the fame and $$$ they earn. It doesn't make it right, it just IS! There are people who watch, who want to hear about the dirt. I guess it is so they feel better about their own lives. There are celebrities who excape it like Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, George Clooney. Kelsey should study what they do and take heed.

kelsey has been through heck and back personally ...his parents and sister were murdered many years ago...as funny as he is to the world one can tell its hard for him to deal with stressful matters...we need to give him a break on this one.

Problem is, Grammer's ex was never brought up in the interview. Simply put because the interview didn't happen, your entire diatribe is kinda destroyed by that fact. They showed some omages prior to the interview, which is common enough, you often get some background on a guest prior to an interview. Kelsey reacted badly.

Roger, in sarah's defense, she didn't say Kelsey used to "be" a great guy. She said "Kelsey used to a great guy." As written, the verb in the sentence is "used," so the base idea is "Kelsey used." Now, what, exactly, Kelsey used is not made clear. Perhaps the preposition "to" was a typo: "Kelsey used a great guy." Not sure which great guy he used, or how he used (i.e., took advantage of) him. He certainly didn't use Piers, and Piers is certainly not a great guy. Or maybe that prepositional phrase should have come at the front of that woefully ill-crafted sentence: "To a great guy, Kelsey used." We can still identify the base idea "Kelsey used," but we now see that this is to be interpreted as some "great guy's" opinion that Kelsey used. Usually, when you say someone "is using," you mean they are abusing drugs.

I know...it would be nice if people would just learn to write a coherent sentence if they insist on inflicting their views on everyone, but this is Uhmahrcuh, and that is far too much to ask of this illiterate population.
