Bravo at work on 'Heathers' TV drama

In a move we're more accustomed to seeing from The CW - what with their reboot of '80s series "Beauty and the Beast" and the new version of  "90210" - Bravo's taking a cult classic title and giving it a fresh coat of paint.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Bravo is planning to redevelop the 1988 movie "Heathers" as a scripted TV drama.

The character Veronica, played by Winona Ryder in the film, is now returning home to Sherwood 20 years later with a daughter of her own. As Veronica soon discovers, her daughter doesn't have to deal with the "Heathers" - but she does have to face their offspring, the "Ashleys."

Jenny Bicks of "The Big C" will write and executive produce the re-developed "Heathers" with Mark Rizzo.

Bicks and Rizzo's project is just one of five dramas that Bravo's announced it has in development, part of an effort to bring original scripted programming to the network next year.

The shows include one about a pair of siblings who rent out the Upper West Side apartment in which their deceased mother had an 18-year affair to other unfaithful married folk, and another about an Upper East Side family that falls into ruin after the dissolution of a Ponzi scheme. (With all of this New York-centric original programming going on, will anyone still care about the "Real Housewives"?)

I am extremely impressed along with your writing skills as well as with the format in your weblog. Is this a paid subject or did you modify it your self? Either way keep up the excellent high quality writing, it is uncommon to look a great weblog like this one today..

  3. Heather - yes, really Heather

No! just...no! I love this movie. Don't ruin its memory by making a crappy TV show out of it. Just...stop.

Why can't the film industry come up with a new original idea... This constant rehashing, rereleasing, remaking, sequel, prequel, cavalcade of trash needs to stop. But it won't because mindless America finds it easier to focus on old ideas than to expand the horizon and experience new ideas.

The article does not say Winona Ryder will be on the TV show. Do you people not read?

  12. Yeah

I love Winona. Yeah, she had problems with the law, but she paid her dues. She messed up once. Entertainers like Lindsay Lohan and Robert Downey Jr have done a whole lot worse than steal some clothes. Cut the lady a break. She's a wonderful actress. She was in Black Swan, Star Trek, she's in a new movie with James Franco and is lending her voice to Tim Burton's Frankenweenie. Heathers on TV is going to bomb. Has entertainment run out of fresh ideas?

Amusing how nasty, mean-spirited people like you often end their comments with the completely contradictory "peace." You're spreading anything but peace, Jo.

Well, at least there will only be two Heather offspring to deal with, since Veronica killed one of the Heathers.

winona could be a decent actress but she basically complains all the time, that why the public is not really that responsive to her.

    • John

@Jo: What ridiculous reasoning; she could be a better actress if she complained less?

    • Lani

@Jo stop acting like you're the expert on Winona. The only one complaining here is you. Shut up. You're also annoying.

I don't think Wynona is going to be in the TV show, the article mentions her as playing Veronica in the flim. I love Healthers, but fear this is going to be horrible :o(

    September 13, 2012 at 9:47 am | Report abuse |
    • John

Why? It was a terrific movie and Ryder is a terrific actress, so why exactly do you "fear this is going to be horrible," Ms. Melodrama?

      September 13, 2012 at 1:46 pm | Report abuse |
    • Lani

@John because Winona isn't going to be in it, which is what she said. And, it WILL be "horrible" because they're messing with a classic. Learn to read and look up melodramatic because that's all your response was.
