How much does Honey Boo Boo make an episode?

We know a dollar can make Alana Thompson - a.k.a., Honey Boo Boo Child - holler, but her family's reportedly earning much more than that thanks to her new reality show.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the family is rumored to make between $2,000 and $4,000 per episode of the hit TLC show, "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo."

The family, which includes mom June, dad Mike (Sugar Bear) and sisters Lauryn, Jessica and Anna (who's now mom to newborn Kaitlyn), would potentially bring in around $40,000 over the course of the 10-episode season.

Mom June previously told CNN that TLC came knocking with the idea for Honey Boo Boo to star in her own reality series after the 7-year-old pageant contestant made a remarkable appearance on the network's show, "Toddlers and Tiaras."

The reality program follows the family's everyday events and has taken off in ratings, even surpassing coverage of the Republican National Convention last week.

However, mom June is said to have laughed at the suggestion that the family's only making between $2,000 and $4,000 an episode.

TMZ says the family matriarch told them that the Thompsons are earning more than that, but she declined to offer a specific figure. Instead, she told TMZ, "we're very well compensated."

@Jataka I couldn't agree more with you. Although this family clearly love each other but apparently not enough to purchase some treadmills, lose weight and learn the meaning of birth control. I can see Honey Boo Boo having her dreams shattered very shortly and the whole family will be on Discovery Health starring in my 600 pound life. I feel sorry for HBB as I am sure she can't recite her ABC's but can cuss like a sailor...knows what a biscuit is (which I was not aware of) LOL and not be punished for it. The show is a poor example of a family that has no problem wasting 80 cases of toilet paper just for the hell of it. I will change the channel every time these loving in bred people are on. That's my right and Im' not being a NAZI about it as you were unfairly called. Its the TRUTH and......shame on TLC they will not get a single rating from me. Hahahahaha. Judging from other post I hope I spelled correctly like most intelligent Southern Hicks can.

I have watched a few minutes of the show and see nothing except a loving family who does the best the can with what they got. mom uses coupons to put Allana in pageants and they live like a lot of normal people. You may call them rednecks and hicks, but there is a lot of different people making up this country. I watched one little interiew, and Alanna was acting like a normal 7 year old and her mother was trying to correct her, quietly but persistently. I will take them over the Kardashians and their language skills anyday, where "like" is used 10 times in one sentence.

Ya know, it's pretty sad to read opinions from so-called intellectuals calling this little girl "piglet", "piggy", "white trash", etc. You are adults, you shouldn't be calling little children ugly names. I haven't heard you calling any of those poor children on "Toddlers & Tiaras" bad names. I guarantee that when Alana doesn't want to be in pageants anymore, her mom won't make her. She's a happy kid and laughs more than anyone else on any "reality" show, scripted or otherwise. This show doesn't embarrass me as much as being a fellow citizen with so many mean spirited grown ups who absolutely MUST share their opinions with the world.

This is a typical white trash family, frankly i do not think it gets much worse as far as how your ranked in society. Really? This goes out to the brainiac Seth, who decided it would be a good idea to write a post highlighting how "dumb" the people of Honey-boo-boo are. If your command of the English language is similar to your spelling and grammar skills displayed here, it's pretty obvious that this is a case of "the pot calling the kettle black." Seth, that means that you shouldn't talk about others when you obviously have the same problems yourself.

I agree grog. I live in Georgia and do not watch the show and it is a little embarrassing to think that-that family's behavior represents all Georgians, but with that said to each his own. Everytime I view comments they are mostly negative and rude (I'm referring all articles, not just this one). For example Seth uses the word "tard." Having a mentally and physically disabled sister, due to a brain tumor, really makes you focus on potentially hurtful words. In all, the people who cuss and tell each other to shut up and all that childish behavior are just angry people sitting behind the safety of their computers. Most of these comments would not be said on a face to face basis. Also, before someone takes a stab at my comment and asks if I don't watch the show then why am I looking at this article, I would like to clarify that I was merely curious.

These people were minding their business and doing their thing. TLC approached them for a show not the other way around. If you were poor and somebody offered you $4000 for 10 shows and all you had to do was be yourself, would you turn that down? This family looks like they enjoy life and each other. What you see is what you get. They all have the gift of laughing at themselves which really is what makes this show funny. As for the little girl growing up thinking she is a beauty queen, I don't see that happening. Her family will keep her grounded in her roots. As for people who live in the south are ignorant and white trash? News flash; there are people like this all over this country in all races. These people are enjoying their 15 minutes of fame and collecting a hefty paycheck. I would be willing to bet this mother will know how to stretch her small fortune and she probably won't shop any different than she does now. I live in the south and I have a college education. I do not watch reality TV, but I heard about this show and I find it hilarious. There is little to laugh about these days and these people make me laugh out loud. Compared to those vile, raunchy, no-talent, disrespectful Kardashians; I'll take Honey Boo Boo any day.

Honey BooBoo is the best shows on TV! People that call this the disintegration of American Society and family are the ones that lost their way. This family only wants to care, love and spend time together. How they spend their time together is comical, but between all this is a family that oozes love and support for one another. Some say I watch only for the cheap laughs or to make fun of those less fortunate. I do laugh with, but I keep watching, because I can see this family loves each other very much and doesn't take themselves too seriously. All they want to do is spend time together and they don't care what anyone else thinks of them. They are real, true people who demonstrate how a family should be…together through ups downs, ins and outs. I'm learning a lot from Honey BooBoo’s family. They remind me that money or material objects do not bring happiness; only spending time together is what keeps a family close. Through thick and thin. To all the haters, look at your own kids as they play their DS or ipad ignoring you, and you choose to tweet and facebook ignoring life. Who is the closer and more loving family? We all can learn something about family from Honey Boo Boo.

Then it started to grow on me and I noticed something that most people probably don't and you have also pointed it out. This family loves each other and it shows. They don't care what others think and they spend time together AS A FAMILY! The part where you said "kids playing on ipods and the parents on facebook/twitter" is dead on. It's easy for me to rattle off silliness as well, say like, 10% of all republicians are the rich elite that suported the deregulation of the banks that DESTROYED our economy and the other 90% are the uneducated drones that have been brainwashed by them into beleving that by giving the 10% the tax cuts, that you will inturn benefit... I've seen and dealt with people like this family and let me tell you they are in all 48 I've visited and are of all colors races and creeds (well, not the Amish). I can tell you with 100% certainty that money, sophistication, place of birth and education are NO guarantees of having a good soul. The lack of these things is no indication of the lack of a quality soul. I've seen the most well bred people who are the biggest pieces of you-know-what this planet has to offer. Honestly though, I just can't understand this. I really do think it's truly, truly memorizing that people watch these scripted "reality" shows. I mean, you know it's scripted. Everyone knows this stuff is scripted. None of it's actually real. So why do you watch it? What's honestly appealing? Why do you insist on building these people up and making them feel important? If I broke down in front of their home, Sugar Bear would be out helping fix the car, June would invite me in to sit a spell and the girls would be bringing me lemonade. Good, honest, simple, salt of the earth people at the core. I wish haters would see that. If I broke down in front of any of the "real housewives of who the hell cares" they'd call the cops to remove the "riff raff" from their vicinity. I'll take the Thompson's any day of the week!

What ever happened that all of this reality TV b.s. became entertainment? Other than its cheap to produce! I put reality in quotes because this stuff is not reality, most of these shows are scripted and/or just knowing the cameras are there cause people to not act "real". More legitimate reality TV would be something like "to catch a predator" or other examples of when the participants dont know they are being recorded.

I think its pretty lame that this crap is/has become the norm....its SO ironic & symbolic that some of the channels running this unreality BS have names like TLC (The Learning Channel) & Bravo (which was supposed to be a channel showing an intellectually higher level of programming), and A&E (what was supposed to stand for Arts & Entertainment)!!! That alone tells you how dumbed-down TV has become that these channels have morphed into showing this lame-o programming instead of what they were intended to air...kinda embarassing....wonder when this crap will finally gradually go away & we can get back to more shows with real writers & stories like Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, CSI etc etc.

A big part of the reason shows like this are everywhere is because they are so incredibly cheap to produce & put on the air. Much, much cheaper than shows with "stars" that require costuming, sets, big salaries, writers, storylines, etc., etc.

TLC is paying the family a pittance while making a passel of of money for the network. As long as the network can get an audience, they are going to continue offering up stuff like this.

What is the difference between this show and the Kardashians? The mother is the same except she has learned to make lots of money at the expense of her children. They have money to have makeup artists make them up before going before the public. Many divorces, cheating on husbands and different fathers of chldren. In addition, the stepfather has several ex-wives and children by all of them. Do any of them have any talent besides wearing expensive clothes, buying expensive houses, and taking enough clothes off to have cameras around?

What bothers me is that this little girl is thinking she is pretty special with a TV show; yet she is too young to realize that most of her popularity comes from viewers who think she and her family are white trash. I don't fault the family for taking the money and doing the show, as this says more about our culture these days than it says about the Honey Boo Boo clan. But TLC should be ashamed for taking advantage of this child for ratings.

I think the family better be saving the money earned to pay for therapy for this poor child when she is old enough to realize/understand that America is just watching to make fun of here. Her family should be punished for holding her up to ridicule. I'm sure that if I displayed my child for "entertainment" someone would call social services.

It's not desperation, but good marketing (or well, what level of marketing is needed). It's kind of the same reason Sci-fi (I refuse the newer spelling) shows things like ghost hunters or that escape show (which is actually decent) or face-off or, heaven forbid wrestling. It's the reason they put wrestling into their weekly top spot years ago (Friday night.. started at 10pm and worked its way to an earlier slot as contracts for other shows came up). It's all about the benjamins, as they say. First, WWE pays them a ton of money. I'm sure Toddlers in Tiaras pays TLC a ton of money as well. Next, reality TV is much cheaper to produce than actually producing new fictional content. In most cases, the participants get paid nothing at all. When you factor in the tons of idiots who watch things like this and the advertising dollars that go with the shows, it's a winning situation for the studio.

A lot of those reality shows represent a slice of American society (hence, the term reality show). There are millions of American families, particularly in the South, that are just like this family. That's who watch this show. Those, and others who need a good laugh. Believe me , when this show's lifecycle has run it's course, they'll be kicked to the curb and we'll all be offered some new tantalizing absurd show to watch. As for Honey Boo Boo, she and her sisters will each have multiple children by the time they're 20 and their parents will be burned out drunks having spent their television money on alchohol and junk food rather than save it for the mountain of medical bills that surely await them.

I admit to watching T and T because it is scary like a ride in an amusement park, it is scary but you love it. I was curious so I watched Honey Boo Boo. They are not like my family, they may not be like anyone's family, but what I noticed was that there is tons of love among these people. June doesn't speak to Alana like a little pagent robot, and you can tell that this isn't just for the cameras. She is a large, gruff, woman who, when they are working on a project speaks to this little girl in a soft, patient, voice. We also see that Alana really is just a little girl when her coach asks her if she knows who Elvis was. I don't have much in common with this family, but I think they are nice people, and I am happy that luck has given them a way to have things they might not have been able to have.

I totally agree with Juliana. I was surprised and impressed to see all the love in this family. They certainly do a lot of redneck things, but I can see that they all genuinely love each other and come together as a family. You are right, June does speak to her children in a loving manner, even when teasing them. I also thought the episode where Sugar Bear took Alana on a little "date" was a sweet episode. I think this just goes to show you that just because people may not be as educated or refined as we think they should be, they can still be really loving, caring people.

@ Mike - No, Mike, it makes me worry about dimwits like YOU! The article stated that this show's ratings SURPASSED THE RATINGS OF THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION. Most likely because the rednecks that like this travesty were those most likely to be republicans......I suppose one could say that this show 'split the viewership' . Doesn't surprise me in the least bit.

Don't lie Mike. The ratings for Honey Boo-Boo were higher than Mitt Romney's acceptance speech. And, to be fair, I'm willing to bet, (and i hate to even say this because it says so much about hte mentality of the people allowed to vote) that Honey Boo-Boo also had higher ratings than the Democratic National Convention. Apparently people are more willing to watch a scripted show about backwoods people with low mentality than to watch the conventions that really introduce the candidates for the highest elected office in America. Very sad. As a friend of mine suggested, the audience is just getting younger and dumber. How sad is that for America.

Say what you will about Honey Boo Boo's family but that mother loves her children and lives her life for them. Some so called "educated" people cannot say that. I think the show is hilarious and in no way is Alaina being exploited.

She loves her children so much, this overweight moteher plies all four daughters with junk food & seemingly raises them with no manners. She also admitted other than Alana's fther living at home, she (June) does not have any of the so called "baby daddies" in any of the girls lives, including the father of the 17 yr old daughter's baby Kaithlin. She alsmo admitted becoming pregnant & delivering her now 17 yr old daughter when she herself was only 15. What a prime example for our young kids to see, it's ok to have out of wedlock children with a variety of men who don't stay around & support their own kids.

Hey Jude (get it?), you obviously are content with an incredibly low standard of television entertainment. Even if the mother does love the kid, the family has half a brain between them all. That poor child will continue the cycle when she's older and will never climb any higher. She's stuck in hillbillie heaven for eternity.

This is exactly what happens to the majority of lower income families when the rest of the world stops caring about them and acts like they're too good for them. What is extremely sad is that everyone incuding all their neighbors etc are getting a glimpse into their upside down & backwards life. This kid is going to be put through Hell in school, she will be relentlessly teased by her peers & older kids alike especially if TLB decides to continue this show or does reruns for years. . June, the mother admits that she gave birth to her oldest daughter when she herself was only 15..meaning she became pregnant at 14, also that NONE of the "daddies" of the three older girls are involved in their lives & that the 17 yr old daughter who just delivered her own baby has no "baby daddy" around either.
At 32 yr old motehr June & her oldest daughter are setting a poor example for our teens in regard to teenage & out of wedlock pregnancies. June stated she spent nearly $15, 000 on pageant yet NO money from any winnings was placed aside for Alana's higher education.
This is so sad it is almost criminal, the family is living off this kid.

Really? They don't know the reason their ratings are so high is because this is pedophile fodder? How a network of any type can support that type of deranged programming is beyond me, but someone must be getting big money from the pedophile community. The fact that her parents are ok with that...well I guess you can't demand people have morals. Some people will do anything for a buck, including pimp their daughter.

I have only watched a couple of seconds of this program and won't bother with it again. This program is a sad commentary on what America calls entertainment, and it gives a wrong impression to people who aren't familiar with county people and country life. While the family may be over exaggerating their behavior for effect and reaction from viewers, I expect they routinely act like this on some level all the time. This show and their actions will very likely follow the little girl into her high school years and perhaps into adulthood. In the end, though, the family responsble for their own actions and the aftermath of them. I can only hope it is not as detrimental as I think it will be.

Why are some of you so upset about being judged based on what is shown on TV. People are judged all of the time by what is either seen, read or heard about complete ethnic groups. No more no less. Because of the actions of a few all others are judged by those few. No it doesn't make it right for people to do this but this should be a reminder to some, just as you don't want to be judged by the actions of others, don't fall into the same trap of judging yourselves. I've seen a couple of promos for the show and it just doesn't interest me as most of the reality show don't.

Dear Ahh... I could not help but notice your improper use of the verb form.

    Verb Form
After certain auxiliary verbs such as "can," "should" or "may," use the base form of the verb.

Instead of: I should have "wrote."
    Consider: I should have written.
Without the auxiliary "should have," "I wrote" would have been proper.

Take the plank out of your own eye before you take the splinter out of anothers.
While I do agree with you, I had to bring this irony to light. LOL

Yes, everyone might behave silly or goofy at times, & yes the house does seem clean & the family does seem to care for each other, but this little girl is going to be teased relentlessly in school when her friends begin to get a close up & personal look into the family's lifestyle. How sad is that.

I really do not think that it is wrong. I think that it is sad. But really country people make their own fun any way they can. You cannot say they are gross or pitiful if they think going through garbage at the dump is fun. Pitiful yes. They are just doing the best they can with what they were given. i say YEAH honey boo boo for getting somone to pay you real money to just be PWT.

Who are you to judge country people?? and to asume all people living in the country are the same. I moved from Atlanta to Mayo, Fl ( yeah a country town im sure you have never heard of) 22 yrs ago with my husband and 4 children to give them a better chance of getting a good eductation and to have values and manners...I could say people from the city are rude and mean and think they know it all and really dont know squat.....Dont judge country people by 1 family you see on tv. We dont have to make our own fun....we have fun like any other person....Grow Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Donna-I live in the country, too. Most people in the country are really nice. You got a problem, your neighbor comes over & gives you a hand. You are on the side of the road. Somebody will always stop to give assistance. People are just more friendly. This Boo Boo family are just plain hillbillies. There's a huge difference. Don't take offense. We know the difference. I wouldn't trade living in the country for the city ever.

If you're gonna do kids, you might as well get 'em fresh, not used.

I actually watched about ten minutes of that show last night. It was scary. I think after the season it will be done. At least I hope so. It is such a waste of film. The saddest part is that Honey Boo Boo is going to look like her mother when she grows up.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what is wrong with this country! We encourage stupidity and rudeness and underpay our teachers, fire fighters, and military! No wonder today's children have screwed up values..
