Kellie Pickler shaves head to support friend battling cancerEveryone has their own ways of showing support for a loved one facing a cancer diagnosis, and for Kellie Pickler, it meant standing in hairstyle solidarity. In a video she submitted to "Good Morning America," the "American Idol" alum and her best friend, Summer Miller, shaved off their hair in preparation for Miller's chemotherapy treatment, which is scheduled to begin Thursday.
Miller, whom Pickler refers to as her "sister," was diagnosed with breast cancer in June. Miller's just 35, but as Pickler says in her statement to ABC News, "cancer does not discriminate," and it's important to aim for early detection. 
"If this compels even one person to change their mentality toward waiting until the age of 40 for their mammogram, then it will be well worth it," Pickler added. And with her new buzz cut, it looks like Pickler has a Halloween costume already in the bag: "Thinking about being 'G.I. Jane' for Halloween," she tweeted with a wink on Wednesday.

Now if only Kellie Pickler were famous or a celebrity, her efforts might make a difference. As it stands now, her gesture will be noticed by about as many people as would take notice if I shaved MY head...
Actually, she IS well known, especially in the military community. She is a huge draw to the troops overseas and is always ready for photo ops, signing autographs, etc. She is a refreshing sight for our troops that are in the middle of their deployments. Don't be so quick to bash someone when you don't know what they're all about.

I didn't know how truly loving this feels until my boys shaved their head when I lost mine because of chemo. They made a game of it and it helped me through it big time.

Wow. If Kelly Pickler thinks mammograms should begin at 35 that totally trumps what actual trained scientists, researchers, and professional medical and nursing bodies have to say about it.
Funny...the woman next to Pickler is 35....she has cancer... is it me, or am I missing something here.

Really? What is up with people like you? I know you're trying to be cute and funny but seriously...I hope you haven't had to go through watching someone close to you or a loved one suffer through cancer and chemo treatments. Regardless of intelligence I commend her for supporting her friend in such a way. I watched my father die at 53 years of age just last year, fellas it works both ways for women and men. Get screened early, if my father had gone for a screening when he felt discomfort he would be alive today and watch my son continue to grow up. Don't be ashamed of getting a colon, prostate, or other invasive screening. It could very well save your life and give hope to those who care and love you, and maybe someone you don't know at all.

I have had several friends who have battled breast cancer. It is the fight of your life. This is the time when you really need your family & friends. I applaud Kellie for supporting her friend during this truly tough fight. Best of luck for her friend Summer with her battle with this dreaded disease.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer back in March. I am a baldy also. I said I picked the best summer to get cancer cause not having hair has sure made this summer alittle warmer!!!!! LOL Thanks Kelli for showing your support to your friend like that cause it also shows support for the rest of us too!!! God Bless You!!!

I think it's a wonderful thing what Kellie did in support of her friend and,for those of you that is cursing her for what she did,obviously you have never had anyone that you loved or cared about with this terrible disease well I have I lost my mom to cancer,you know what I say karma comes back around which,I don't wish this terrible disease on my worst emeny so think before you speak........

She still looks great; what a friend! The best to her friend as she prepares to go through chemo! To all the people out there suffering from cancer(s); stay positive, and try to have a great support group to get you through every day; it's an emotional roller-coaster on so many different levels.

Don't let anyone change the age for mammograms. They need to start by age 40 at the latest. They are not a "waste of money" as some politicians and insurance companies would have you believe. Fight back against government and insurance companies attempts to get the age of mammograms raised to 50
