Green Day cancels show after Billie Joe Armstrong falls ill

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has been spotted back in the States after he was hospitalized in Italy over the weekend.

Bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool broke the news to fans in a video posted to Green Day's website on Sunday, explaining that due to Armstrong's illness, the group had to cancel their performance in Bologna.

"We apologize profusely, but Billie got rushed to the hospital [Saturday] night due to illness, and the doctors don't think it's a good idea for him to play ... This sucks," Dirnt said.

"We're beyond devastated, we're as sad as you guys are. Billie's extremely upset," Cool chimed in. "We'll see you very soon."

By Tuesday, Armstrong was seen in Los Angeles, as TMZ's photographers caught up with him at the airport.

The singer couldn't talk about his ordeal, though - he pointed to his throat and whispered that he's lost his voice.

No wonder they sing about American Idiots! Some of these posts are just plain idiotic and have nothing to to with the content of the story or Billie Jo- Hopefully he is recovering and will be better soon- I love Green Day and wish the best for the guys! Can't wait for the next album and hope to see the play "American Idiot" when it comes this way! And Tre Cool- you rock!

Well said, Mindee.....I can't get over people who feel the need to post random rumours to tarnish reputations that have really nothing to do with them!!! (herione? I mean, I guess Ray Charles hid it....but the three from Green Day aren't all twitchy and itchy and incoherent.....) REmember what Thumper's mom said, "if you can't say anything nice.....don't say anything at all!" I am sure I am going to get plenty of "stupid thumper" responses...but I think the deer had some sound advice!!! Hope BJ gets well soon......and really, if you don't like them.....don't listen to their music!!!!! Stop the HATE!!!!!!!

Just as well. The new song they're pushing on the radio bites (won't even mention it here). IMHO, they haven't had a decent song since "Brain Stew" / "Jaded". And no, I didn't like anything off of "American Idiot".

Why does Seinfeld get credit? That song was used on many a show/movie....but the only ones who should get credit for it is Green Day....it's not from Seinfeld, it's from Green Day.....

Green Day sucks. Maybe 15 years ago they were good. They are old men now and look like tools trying to act like kids, time to retire grandpa

Boy, such a hater! Please don't tell the Rolling Stones that. You should be so lucky to have such a long career.

First of all, The Stones are real musicians. Secondly, It's pretty sad to see those old codgers onstage too. It's better to burn out than rot onstage.

I love the Stones. It's one band that I would still like to see in concert, regardless of how old they are. I don't care if they roll them out on their hover rounds. They still rock in my book.

"time to retire grandpa" And then maybe someone will listen to your band, right Andrew? Yep, any day now their millions of fans will vanish. Just hold your breath for a while and wait.

"Anyway they are still better than any of the (younger) garbage out today..." Oh, there's plenty of good stuff, especially if you don't insist on it being stuff you and I and Mick Jagger would like. Every other song I hear today sounds like 'Paranoid android,' which is ok but not what I want. You may notice that half the 'young' groups today are pushing forty, people whose careers were damaged by the disco-music-no-live-bands fad of the Seventies and early Eighties, so they aren't that different.

I can't listen to Green Day because their drummer is named Tre Cool. This is a "punk" band and the guy has the cheesiest, most pandering name ever. Tre Cool. Think about it. It's awful in just about every way possible.

@Kevin Nivek: I think he was given that nickname when he was 12 or 13 years old, when he was playing in the Lookouts with Larry Livermore out in California pot country. Larry might have actually given it to him, come to think of it.

So it's not like he, when he was 25 years old, decided to call himself this goofy thing because he thought it would be punk. Nicknames stick. Ask Cat Stevens.

America is NOT what it used to be. We have slipped in many areas, including the exorbitant, unsustainable cost of healthcare and healthcare access. I personally knew a man who could not afford healthcare for himself, as he was the primary caretaker of his wife, who was bedridden with M.S. for years. Care is very expensive, and he did not have the money to get a bypass operation (or have insurance)! He died at 56 years of age, because no hospital would do the surgery because of his inability to pay! This is SICK!

I have slipped in many areas also. Namely icy sidewalks. But with Medicare, I paid cents on the dollar for the care I've received later in life. I even got this HoverRound at no cost to me! And they handled the paperwork. Thanks, America!

People like you seem so strange and peculiar to me. Your own political beliefs distort the simplest of events and meanings. How anyone who exercises their most American right to criticize and highlight what they believe is wrong with the political climate in their own country could be perceived as anti-American, or anti-patriotic, is absolutely beyond me. To me, that's the highest level of patriotism; the fact that your love for your country is so strong that you're not afraid to question the powers that be in order to improve upon it. Maybe it is you who should re-evaluate what it is you think it means to be an American.

Dick, you'd be surprised to know how much contempt many people feel for your brand of chauvinism. Let me tell you that there are a bunch of us who are just as American as you, born and bred, who don't give a sheeite for your thoughts, because they don't put a damn thing on our tables.
