Kathie Lee: Taylor Swift did crash the Kennedy wedding

Many have been loathe to believe that Taylor Swift, the country-pop star forever known as a mic-jacking victim, was capable of crashing a Kennedy family wedding, but Kathie Lee Gifford may have just set the record straight.

On the "Today" show Thursday, Kathie Lee explained that she knew Swift did it, regardless of what her publicist has said, because she was in attendance. (The bride, Kyle Kennedy, is Kathie Lee's granddaughter by marriage.)

The event in question actually took place last weekend, when Kyle tied the knot in Boston. Swift, who's been spotted with boyfriend Conor Kennedy visiting his mother's grave and is rumored to have purchased (or perhaps was just renting, depending on the report you're reading) a home near the family, was supposedly asked not to attend that weekend's event.

The Boston Herald quoted the bride's mother, Victoria Gifford Kennedy, who is the daughter of Kathie Lee's husband Frank Gifford, as saying that she asked Conor and Taylor not to come via text, but they showed up anyway.

When she saw them, "I personally went up to Ms. Swift, whose entrance distracted the entire event, politely introduced myself to her, and asked her as nicely as I could to leave," Victoria told the Boston Herald Wednesday. "It was like talking to a ghost. She seemed to look right past me."

Swift's rep told the paper at the time that "there is no truth to that," adding that "Taylor was invited to the wedding and the bride thanked her profusely for being there."

But according to Kathie Lee, "all the invitations went out a long time ago, before they started dating," as she relayed on "Today." Victoria added to the Boston Herald that Conor had been invited, but he didn't RSVP, which Kathie Lee reiterated Thursday.

"The truth is, because I was there, Vicki, Frank's daughter's account of what happened in Boston, is accurate," she said. "Because she said to me as it was happening, 'I'm really not happy about this.' ... She told me that Conor had emailed her or texted or something like that an hour before. He had not RSVP'd, so she didn't even know if he was coming or not. She heard that he might be, but he got in touch with her an hour earlier, and said, basically, 'Can I bring my girlfriend?'"

Kathie Lee continued that Victoria "said very nicely, please do not come, but they came anyway. They asked her to leave twice. I thought she did .... I didn't know there was any drama going on at the time. I'm not sure she didn't know that she wasn't invited."

The issue, she concluded, was that "It's the bride's day, and that was Vicki's other concern." And then, perhaps thinking of Conor, Kathie Lee added, "If you'd done the right thing and RSVP'd, and then had called weeks before and said 'May I,' then I think Vicki would have graciously said yes you may."

Is this really important?? Who the heck cares. The Kennedy's are the snobs for just letting it be and wanted this to be "ANNOUNCED ON TV" by an old biddy like Kathie Lee Gifford.
Why did she even mention it, make a statement about it, if not to embarrass the girl, get her voice out there, as if she herself had been robbed of her Kennedy Wedding experience.
I am sure they could make arrangements for Conner and his plus one.
The mother of the Bride and Kathie Lee really needed the world to know that a 22 year old girl and her boyfriend who was invited, better yet, relative for what reason except to be the snotty, rude and hateful women they must be,
Personally, it seems to me that having Kathie Lee announce this was just to try and publicly humiliate Swift, let everyone know she is in some way related to a Kennedy, (since they are all such upstanding people, who drive their dates into lakes, rape young women, ran moonshine and are mostly adulterers.
I am not a big fan of Swift's music but I do think that publicly attempting to humiliate ANYONE did make the wedding more about Swift and that they personally upstaged the bride's day.
Somehow, I just can't see the big deal.
The Kennedy's have proven that they are nothing if not greedy, snobs who believe they are royalty.
I surely don't think Taylor Swift was there to upstage the bride.
Kathie Lee has to mention her BFF, the fact she was there and her affiliation to the Kennedy's when really, she is irrelevant and has to constantly mention her children. I bet Cassidy was thrilled. Ha Ha
Good for you Taylor. Don't let Kathie Lee Whocares bully you around. She is a bitter old lady trying to be significant since Kelley Rippa is better liked, more respected and moved right into her seat with ease.
Again, is this really important news???

Kathie Lee – – -crawl back into your wine bottle and shut up ! I'm surprised you sobered up long enough to carry your big egotistical, ugly self to the wedding. You're a shame and disgrace to society. You should take your ugly, bleached blonde, wrinkled, wine-soaked butt to an island somewhere and drink your miserable life away. Swift isn't 18. She is 22 and her bf is 18. It won't last. But what's he care? He has a trophy by his side thats worth 100 million+ and counting. It's obvious Connor doesnt care because he is higher up on the Kennedy list being the son of RFK. The only brood who trumps them is JFK's. Ah yes, such family drama. And Kathie Lee, she should just go away. Frank's daughter better be a knockout for all this attention.

None of his should have been directed at Taylor Swift. She was just a "plus one" of Connor, and he is an 18 year old kid (just as Swift is, though presumably a little more seasoned with the media attention and all that). Any issues should have been brought to Connor, not Taylor Swift. If they want her to leave, they should tell him that and let him deal with it. If he doesn't do that or do it effectively, it's on him, and again, he's just a kid, kids aren't always the best with advanced preparation and social graces.

Taylor Swift probably didn't even know she wasn't invited since many weddings allow single people to bring dates, and she certainly didn't arrive without the active encouragement of Conor. So for the mother of the bride to address her directly and ask her to leave is at least as rude as anything Conor may have done. Ms. Swift acted correctly since her only other choice was to embarras her host/boyfriend, and if the mother of the bride had just kept her mouth shut or talked to the guilty party (Conor) there would have been no incident. And Conor is an 18yr old boy – who probably forgot to respond. They do that, regardless of background. Someone has been having an extra drinky-winky.

They were asked to leave...twice. Don't use their age as an excuse for poor manners. It's the Bride's day. Not Conor and Taylor's day. They should have respected the Bride and her Mother and left.

The boyfriend is a family member and whether he rsvp'd or not is ludicrous. Banning him and his plus one from the family wedding was the height of bad manners, no matter who the plus one was and certainly asking them to leave after the arrived was crass. The response should have been, Connor- it's so nice to see that you and your friend could attend, since we didn't receive your rsvp. Then leave it alone. The fact that the mother of the bride, Kathie Lee and anyone else has made a big stink about T.S. "crashing" the wedding is EXACTLY what has caused it to be overshadowed. If they had all acted like the two were expected, invited guests no one would have known or cared whether they were there...it's not like other celebrities aren't invited to Kennedy shindigs... It was and is....much ado about NOTHING.

PLEASE LEARN MANNERS AND PROTOCOL. It is called RSVP for a reason. So people will know how to prepare and for security purposes. What if people showed up over your house uninvited. What if people told you they were coming and didn't. Just because you are rich doesn't not give you the right to do what you want (Conner) family or no family. Also, just because you are rich people can take advantage of you (Kennedys).

Speaking of etiquette: The very worst breach of etiquette is to mention another person's breach of etiquette. That is what we were taught back in the days of the Emily Post style of social etiquette. (We actually went to finishing school.) Therefore, Kathi Lee is most obnoxious one in this entire situation. She actually broadcast it across the nation and on the Internet! I think the Kennedy kid just did what a lot of privileged kids do: He forgot to RSVP... Most privileged families, who certainly know a thing or two about etiquette, allow for quite a bit of overflow guests and never just do a simple head-count. Money is not that tight for them so they add a lot of chairs and extras and, as long as security recognizes the family or friend trying to get in, they just let it go. No kidding, Kathi Lee! It is the most demure, gracious and "elite" thing to do! Take your $20-a-plate-head-counts back to your trailer park, OK? Jeez... how tacky are Kathi Lee and her mother-of-someone sister-in-law of someone? Ethel Kennedy would have NEVER done that to anyone!!

    • skegeeace

The issue wasn't the cost of the plate. It was the fact that Taylor Swift as a celebrity would steal the spotlight from the bride. That is the EPITOME of rudeness, especially when she wasn't supposed to be there in the first place. I'd have had security ESCORT her out.

She shows up to a Kennedy wedding with a Kennedy and that is crashing a wedding. What kind of God awful family is this? They don't want this to be a distraction so they release statements to the press about a non incident. What kind of horrible person tells a direct relative not to come because a RSVP wasn't followed to a tee. The kid is 18 and just lost his mother, cut him some slack. He lost a major foundation to his family and this is what he has left. Wow, they completely alienated a young man that needs his family more than ever.

Did you do a survey of about-to-be-brides who have public standing of their own, or just country-music fans? A wedding, among other things, is supposed to be about the happy couple – not one thoughtless celebrity who seems to be literally forcing herself into a family with which she is already obsessed (already collects Kennedy memorabilia!). This kid, however vulnerable, had not been expected, and she was definitely not invited. Rude, selfish and classless.

And is being asked NOT to come to a wedding he was invited to... because he is dating a singer? Most anyone else would have said absolutely, your family... but not Mrs. Gifford Kennedy! And for Kathie Lee to act as if this is natural and normal behavior from a Mother-of-the-Bride is ridiculous. And WHY was she making a scene on any level?!?! Seriously, from the story, this 'drama' should be placed on Conor Kennedy's shoulders. It was 'his' invitation, she was coming as 'his' guest. HE did not respond to the RSVP, which is a breach of etiquette that his grandmother would have been mortified by.

If Conor was invited, I'm sure he was expected to bring a guest. He was rude not to RSVP, as the wedding planners need to prepare for a certain number of guests. I find it hard to believe a wedding planner would "text" someone not to come to an event like this. That also seems rude. Given his age, and Taylor's, someone's parents should have explained to them what was expected of them. Just because they're 21 does not mean they are wise in the ways of the world. Quite the contrary. In any situation, to call attention to yourself or require special attention, especially at a wedding, is rude. Some people, perhaps Taylor, is used to getting special treatment and so has come to expect it. Perhaps she mistook the wedding for one of her concert after-parties.

Why don't you report something interesting to your readers such as why many physicians are now refusing to take new medicare patients or are retiring rather than deal with government run healthcare.

just the hypocrisy, you clicked on the link...you read the article...it is all on the header, you did not have to click on the link...that's why there is tabs for political news, entertainment news...stick to the areas you like reading, and don't worry about other people's interest. does it make you feel like a better person to write this comment...if you really don't care, you wouldn't have clicked on the link in the first place...it's that simple. No doubt in my mind that Taylor crashed the wedding. Also no doubt in my mind that Kathie Lee felt it her righteous duty to report the incident. Truth is that Taylor should learn how to behave as if she has some class, integrity and dignity instead of making a fool of herself over someone who is 4 years younger than her just because his last name is "Kennedy" ; and, Kathy Lee would report anything – true or not- just to have the media spotlight shine on her. Both of their actions on this incident can be described in one word: pathetic. Taylor, take a lesson from this – If you don't stop this kind of behavior you will be nothing more than a newer version of Kathie Lee. God help us . . . and you.

True, the Kennedy family has endured some real tragedy. As did the Kopechne family. Other than the two assassinations, though, the majority of the Kennedy pain has been self inflicted. I get that this is kind of like saying "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?" My point is that many people believe the Kennedy family are the closest thing to royalty that we have here in America – far from it.

And the wedding crashers? Sounds like they had an invitation but neglected to RSVP. You really don't want 'em there? Call the cops.

Conor just lost his mom to SUICIDE and is 22 years old. Ms. Swift is at least five to ten years older than him and he needs an older woman to replace his mom. She looked right through Victoria Kennedy 'like a ghost' because that is what she's been taught to do by her handlers. Most 'famous' people don't speak unless scripted else they give away their myriad imbecilities. It matters not though for young Conor will NEVER get over his mom's hanging herself. Mary Kennedy was a sad, depressed alcoholic and drug addict married to a man who openly flaunted his affair with Cheryl Hines in his sick wife's face. Nice guy. Let's hope the son does not inherit the Kennedy misogynist gene which so far, ALL the Kennedy men have exhibited in DROVES. K.L. Gifford was over decades ago as a pesky hyena on Regis. NOW? She's just a harridan-harpy with insights into NOTHING. Yuck. Who watches that show? Most people are busy working at that time anyway.

While it may be poor etiquette to show up to a wedding you failed to rsvp to; it is downright tacky to whine to the press about these kids. How much of the glow has the mother of the bride taken from her daughter by this petty behavior? I'm sure she wishes her mother would just shut up. Jackie would have graciously made a place for the cousin and his date, and never said a word in public about it. Publicity hounds and I'm not talking about the young people.

Kathie Lee isn't the "kin" of anyone involved. She's nothing but a "step." She and Frank's daughter Victoria are the only ones making a big deal of this. If Taylor and Connor truly were asked not to come (the bride seems to be saying otherwise), they shouldn't have; bad on them. But they did leave when asked to. The rest of the world wouldn't have known anything about it if Victoria hadn't whined to the press. Kathie Lee only made the situation worse by adding her total lack of class to her step-daughter's. Victoria may have married a Kennedy, but she'll never BE one.

Elizabeth Post wrote in 1968 in her "Emily Post" newspaper column that uninvited wedding guests should sit in the back of church "either slip into a back pew by yourself or tell the usher that is where you wish to sit." Uninvited wedding guests are nothing new. What is far more rude than being an uninvited wedding guest is making a public spectacle of your family, and violating the privacy of the bride and groom, on the gossip the national news.

Furthermore, if you're going to make such statements you open yourself up to criticism if you don't speak well. You just reinforce the stereotype.

If Taylor Swift's publicist claimed that what Vicki said was untrue (which is obviously a lie on the publicist's part) then how can we believe that the bride actually thanked Taylor 'profusely' for attending? Give me a break. If that was the case I doubt Vicki would be so inclined to make such a fuss. If her daughter, the bride, was so darn pleased, wouldn't Vicki just keep her piehole shut about her own feelings and let it be 'the bride's day' like she repeatedly said in her Boston Herald statement.
I'm not putting all the blame on Swift. Conor obviously needs to learn a thing or two about proper etiquette...I don't care if you're my cousin or not. If you haven't RSVPd to my wedding and expect to swing by at the last minute, you better think again. I know he's young but that's just rude and selfish.

Let's see. There were probably about 300-400 people at this wedding (after all, it is a Kennedy). The only people who choose to complain about the situation are Victoria Kennedy (mother of the bride) and Kathie Lee Gifford.

The bride and her husband are right now probably wishing Mom (Victoria Kennedy) would shut the heck up. Nobody else is making a scene about this matter. Conner didn't; Ms. Swift didn't; none of the other 299-399 other guests didn't. Nobody's day got ruined. And then there is Kathie Lee Gifford. Just saying that name says enough. Since she was there I can only assume there were other "celebrities" there (if one could count a very uninteresting talk show co-host as a celebrity). Now I know Kathie Lee will say she is only sticking up for the mother of the bride but remember that the bride or her husband don't really seem to bothered by all this and Conner and Taylor don't seem to bothered by this. So you have to ask, where is the issue? Is the issue that Victoria Kennedy just doesn't like Conner Kennedy? Who knows and who cares? Is the issue that Kathie Lee can't locate her brain? That question has already been answered multiple times.

However, any wedding planner knows full well that you plan for a few people to show up that didn't RSVP, just in case. You should find another career path. This wasn't some outsider who just showed up out of nowhere. It was Conor Kennedy, a cousin. He's 18 and he messed up with the late RSVP, but big deal. 1. If an 18-year old high school student is invited to his cousin's wedding, he likely didn't get his own invite, but rather he and his sibs and parents were invited as a FAMILY to attend the cousin's wedding. Mother committed suicide so she likely didn't RSVP for the family, father separated from family may have been a bit busy and also didn't RSVP for the family. So did the rest of his sibs and his dad attend the event without the blessing of a formal RSVP??? As to Taylor, her boyfriend was invited to his cousin's wedding, and he likely asked her to come with him as his guest. So she would have been "invited" to attend by the cousin as his date. Seriously, there were a lot of famous people (government, media) at a Kennedy wedding, so is the boycott for famous singers only? if teen cousins are invited it's not so crazy that they might bring a date. How this has all become Taylor's fault is beyond me. Rich people can't put out two more plates for dinner??? Every single other person who attended had sent their RSVP? No one was sick or injured and had to skip the wedding, so there might have been 5 or 6 plates open anyway? I'm not buying the big turmoil over this. However, if I was Taylor, I wouldn't go to any of their little Kennedy social events, even if I get my own engraved invite.

Thank you! You took the words right out of my mouth. Ms. Swift might not even have been aware that her boyfriend had not RSVP'd or that he had been asked not to come due to the lack of RSVP. How many young people sit around and discuss every aspect of an invite received by their significant other? "Hon, are you really, really sure you are invited?" "Did you RSVP by the proper date?" This would likely be even less likely to occur for someone like Ms. Swift who is used to being told where she's expected to be. It might not be normal, but it's her normal. If anyone is particularly culpable here it would be the young Mr. Kennedy who clearly failed at wedding etiquette and sensitivity 101, but hardly went out of his way to deliberately ruin his cousin's wedding. Things like this happen all the time – even at small, normal weddings, much less huge affairs. From what I read, Ms. Swift exited and waited in a hallway once she was encouraged to leave – probably mortified at the unintentional faux pas. Total lack of class on Kathie Lee's part to air this publicly for her own benefit. Ick. Completely gratuitous and it merely takes away from the special event that her stepgranddaughter's wedding surely was.

Now I could see if some creep was told to leave, but this is Taylor. the moppet of country music who has people bow and scrape to her!!!! What were they afraid of, she being prettier than the bride or something?? I am sure that she would have made any kind of scene or would be tack less enough to sign autographs??? She is and I don't have a clue why, dating a Kennedy?? And as for Ted? He would have wanted to jump Taylor's bones as he fancied himself quite the ladies man? Yeah, I do recall a dark body of water under a certain bridge where a young woman lies on the bottom having been deposited there by a wasted Ted! Now IMO, this was murder and had it happened today ole Teddy would have gone to prison for vehicular homicide! He got so away with. that is for a few decades and then he gets the brain cancer that checked him out so I don't call it the "Kennedy Curse" I call it the "Kennedy Karma"!! Sooner or later for every crime or indiscretion, this family does get paid back so in a sense, they really don't get away with it totally, it just takes longer for them to answer to it. SO I think this is far from big news here and who cares what Kathie Lee says??

Ok for all the "manners" folks out there. RSVP just means "Respond please" and let me know either way. It doesn't mean if you don't respond the invitation is rescinded and you are no longer an invited guest. If you invite 200 people and 180 of them respond to tell you if they are coming or not, you still have 20 invited guests that are still invited – you just don't know their intentions. You have to be prepared that at least some of them will be able to come. Connor was an invited guest who had good reasons to miss the RSVP (teenager / mother's recent suicide / family drama around mother's final resting place etc) To eject him from the wedding for any reason is just evil; to talk about it on national tv is just plain crude. To claim it takes the spotlight off the bride is laughable. Nobody on the planet except those in attendance even know who these people are or that they were getting married that day. There was no spotlight to be had. Sorry to break it to you but the Kennedys are no longer relevant and haven't been in decades. JFK Jr was their last chance & sadly he's gone, now they will just dry up and blow away.

Not true. The RSVP is the invitee's method of accepting the invitation. Food and drinks are ordered according to the number of guests who are coming to an event – those who accepted the invitation by RSVP. If you fail to RSVP you haven't accepted the invitation and are not on the guest list. If you've ever planned a wedding you know that you don't order and pay for food and liquor according to the number of invitations you sent out, but by the number of RSVPs you received.

It's clear that you have never planned - and paid for - a formal wedding, in which heads are counted and which can easily cost hundreds of dollars per person. If someone doesn't bother to answer an invitation you do NOT have to be prepared to have them attend anyway. You can be certain that traditional response cards were enclosed with the invitation to the Kennedy wedding. An emailed response isn't acceptable in that case, and certainly not on the day of the wedding.

Yes, no one knew until now. Now everyone is Googling Victoria Kennedy and finding out, or remembering that her husband was the Kennedy who was having the affair with the 17 year old babysitter. So, talk about taking the spotlight off the bride! \P.S. I think they just meant the spotlight at the wedding, not a national media spotlight. Boy did they blow it!
As a woman who married into the Kennedy family she probably was not brought up trained never to air family dirty laundry in public, but then after her husband's affair with the 17 year old & her father's you would think she had learned a thing or two about the media and family drama.

Did anyone think that the reason he may have not RSVP'd is that his mom has just recently committed suicide and the memory of that was far more pressing than RSVPing to his cousin's wedding. If they were any type of family, they would have thought about that and squeezed in two chairs at a table and welcomed them in. The fact that Kathy Lee felt the need to confirm the events of that day is just as ignorant as the Kennedy family turning Connor away. The Kennedy's defintely don't need enemies, because they are their own worst enemies.

At almost every wedding I have attended people have shown up that did not RSVP. It happens. You can either make a big deal about it or welcome them and let it slide. It sounds like the mom of the bride is making WAY too big a deal out of this. And as far as Taylor "crashing" the wedding, it seems far more likely that her boyfriend invited her and she was more than likely none the wiser when going. He should have sent the RSVP, but in EVERY family there is that person (or many people) that don't bother responding. MOST smart brides take this into consideration. Now, rather than letting the issue drop, Kathie Lee has to open her loud mouth. I think it's FAR tackier to publicly make a big deal about guests that did not RSVP than it is to come to a wedding without sending one.

The only issue if the count of guests is off "by a little" is making sure there is enough food. I doubt the Kennedys would have an issue with getting two extra plates thrown in.

If he was invited, he was likely invited "and guest" as most people bring dates to weddings. If he didn't RSVP, that was his problem. If he said "I'm supposed to go to a wedding this weekend but I'm trying to ditch", and Taylor said "oh no, let's go", how is that different than anyone else.

Ok, I just got done reading nearly 400 posts on this subject. Another take: Isn't the press the big culprit here? Yes, there might have been some kind of confrontation between the Mother of the bride & "young" Kennedy & Swift. We don't know how involved it was, or what actually was said. We know the couple was allowed to attend. Although, I'm not a Kathie Lee fan a all, she was defending the the Mother of the bride, who was Frank's daughter. I get that, too. The media was the one who came out & said that Taylor crashed the party, leading everybody to think it was sort of her idea. Remember, we probably wouldn't have known any of it without the media putting it out there. Kennedy should have rsvp'd, but he's a kid. Taylor probably got invited by him, and had no clue about the rsvp. Give him a little credit, at least he texted. (still pretty tacky) So that's just another take on the whole wedding fiasco. I just know I wasn't there, so I can't really pass any judgement on a he said, she said story. Regardless, the happy couple got married, may they live happily ever after!

Taylor Swift proves again and again that she is an extremely self-absorbed child, who pretty much thrives on using famous men and boys to garner attention....I do feel bad for her because somewhere in her upbringing she was let run amok, and has become rather promiscuous in her relationships...look at all the famous guys she has used to stay in the headlines.... and a Kennedy...well, for a Princess-wannabe, the Kennedy family has always been as close as we get to "royalty" in the US... maybe next on her hit list should be Prince Harry..

I agree Taylor Swift is very self absorbed. First the Kennedy family doesn't really care for her, she should have picked up a hint here and there especially if the family didn't mention or ask of she was coming to the wedding or any other family function for that matter. Another point of annoyance or irritation for the family is her house across the street which screams clingy stalker plus her reputation of writing songs about her break ups which can be embarrassing for the other party. This kid is barely legal so the family have a reason to say no don't bring her and he should have been respectful of their wishes. That girl should know better on so many levels even if her boyfriend didn't she could have declined to go to the event and saved herself embarrasment but thats what she gets for going anyways.

After reading this blog it looks to me like the headline is wrong and was created just to draw the attention of all the haters. Taylor attended the wedding with a member of the family that didn't RSVP. That's hardly crashing a wedding and even if you do consider that to be crashing a wedding, it was Conor that would have crashed it with Taylor as his date. The blog doesn't say if the bride and groom were ever contacted by Conor about still being able to attend the wedding. All it says is that the Mother of the Bride didn't want them there, but after the wedding, the bride thanked them for showing up. So the bride was happy, it was her wedding, everything should be good. What's with all the cheap shots by the haters?

I don't really care about this; but do you really think that Taylor wanted to CRASH the wedding ?? This is pretty far from the Kennedy tree to be considered very important. Any chance that Taylor thought she was being brought along as the date of an invited Kennedy member without any knowledge of all the backstory ? Kathy Lee isn't the brightest at her finest moment; I don't know that I would trust her reporting on anything. Afterall she only got invited because she married the bride's grandfather. Because of KathyLee's big mouth now we know that her granddaughter married a Kennedy. Still believe Taylor has more class than the bunch of them; including KathyLee.

i would agree that it is, not just the brides day, but also the grooms. I have gathered the only reason they were not invited is they did not rsvp, and actually the family implied Conner would have been welcome alone. The Best thing to do was to ask them to leave and if they did not, do NOT makea scene. I have seen no reports that a scene was made simply that they attended and were unwelcome. Ok...it happens to people and its not really embarrassing. What SHOULD be embarrassing is the amount of grief the family is giving her, since it was probably Connor who decided to push it and stay. As well as the amount of press they are feeding. If they wanted to avoid embarrassment CLAM UP do not feed the beast!!! i would say they are actually enjoying the publicity atm, let them say what they want but actions speak louder then words and if they want this to go away they would let it fade and stop talking about it.

I'm not blaming the Kennedy cousin for not paying attention to the RSVP, after all he's only 18, still a kid – his mother died earlier this year, and his father is busy courting a hollywood starlet. But Taylor Swift is a 22 year old, worldly woman, who should have known better. A couple of months ago she was trying to date Maria's son Patrick (maria told her "no way"), now she is fixated on his 18 year old cousin. I think that a 22 year old young woman who has been with a 30 year old man, could ruin him. Let this "boy" go away to college, learn about life away from home, grieve for his mother, and grow up. Taylor did to this wedding reception the same thing that Kanye West did to her – upstage.

Kennedy fame aside, this should be the bride's day. Weddings are private affairs to which those we love or have special ties are invited. You would likely feel the same if it was your daughter. The Kennedy young man also shows a total lack of class and sensitivity by textiing at the 11th hour.

Weddings have become so stiff and formal they aren't fun anymore. I say if my cousin wants to come (and there's no bad blood between us!) with his girlfriend and celebrate my wedding, expected or not, pull up a chair! That's what a wedding is supposed to be, celebrating 2 people who love each other, not the flowers, the dress, the bridesmaids' dresses, the venue.
I applauded Brittney Spears wedding (not the groom!) with the backyard barbeque. I loved the movie 'Father of the Bride' with Elizabeth Taylor and the choatic reception back at the house.
Weddings need to be a little less formal and expensive, more emphasis on the love and less on the table settings.

I can't imagine any bride who would appreciate someone showing up at their wedding and basically upstaging them on their special day. Kathy Lee is such a wannabe all up in someone else's grill. So contradictory too in he assessment of the situation and she doesn't know ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT WAS REALLY GOING ON! What's the dif in her explanation-Taylor Swift would still have been Taylor Swift a month from then, a week from then and the day of. So why would it have been ok if Conor had RSVp'd (which he should have done and all of this would have been avoided.) Conor messed up, but you have to give him some slack as he's lost his Mother and his Mother probably did all of that, RSVP'd his socil obligations and such. See how important Mothers can be even if you're 18 years of age. RFK certainly isn't paying attention to these types of details. Anyhoo- Kathy Lee said if he'd RSVP'd Vicky would have graciously ok'd it but why? Taylor still would have been Taylor Swift and her daughter's day would have been disrupted.l However, that is a lame excuse as I'm sure with all of the society types there, I'm sure as adults they would have been focused on the bride. Oh well. What a sequeway for Kathy Lee to proclaim her Kennedy connection. I have a love/hate thing with Kathy Lee-sometimes she's funny as hell and then sometimes I just cna't stand her. Talk about detracting from the wedding and the bride! Is that how they want to remember Kyle Kennedy's wedding? As gossip news fodder? Gifford and Gifford Kennedy are making a public spectacle of themselves. And what kind of mother-of-bride goes up to a family member at a wedding who was invited and ASKS them to leave? Gifford Kennedy sounds like a real control freak. So what if Conor Kennedy forgot to RSVP for his cousins wedding and then showed up with his girlfriend? The 18-year-old kid just lost his mother to suicide. Where is the Kennedy compassion? If anybody has poor etiquette and is publicity hungry it's Victoria Gifford Kennedy and Kathy Lee Gifford.

it is quite rude to show up uninvited to an event that requires an RSVP. if miss swift was more well-mannered, she would not have (apparently) taken her BF's word that it was okay to just drop by.

while i am extremely tired of the whole "it's the bride's day" meme (what about the husband? what about the future?), it is quite fair to realize that having someone of swift's calibre would completely take the focus off what the day *is* supposed to be about, which is the lifetime commitment being made between a man AND a woman.

taylor, in future, if you didn't RSVP, don't go. *everybody* isn't thrilled to see you just because you are who you are. do you not understand the words "would you please leave?"

STRANGE to complain ANYONE attended a wedding when they had an invitation! Good God. What is etiquette without any common sense! Kathy Lee is proving to be petty.

It does not sound like Taylor Swift was doing the "crashing" as the deceptive headline makes it sound. The Kennedy guy was the one doing any crashing and as it turns out, he turned out to have receivedd an invitation. Ms. Swift was merely accompanying the boyfriend, and it probaly was his decision to go to the ceremony. Furthermore, who cares.

Kathie Lee talks too much. Feel sorry for the young man. That is very typical behavior of any 18 year old. He's just 18??? It would have been much more gracious to have simply seated them. Taylor Swift does not deserve any of this treatment. Kathie Lee embarrasses herself every weekday morning with that stupid wine glass between her and the camera. No one takes her seriously or even cares.

The event in question was a "sit down dinner" where the tables are preset and the meals counted. It presents a huge problem with seating etc. to make changes at the last minute. Sit down dinners are protocol proper and this young man (sorrows noted) did not respond the way he was more than likely raised to do. Ms. Swift doesn't appear to be aware of others and their celebratons, possibly because she is usually the center of attention. Very unfortunate that the name Kennedy is once again judged before an audience that isn't as informed as it sould be.

Taylor Swift cannot possibly have been the only celebrity there considering the Kennedy's fame or should I say notoriety. Kathy Lee is showing a considerable lack of class by singling her out and making a show of Taylor's presence. If she had simply kept her nose out of the picture and her big mouth shut, the Public would not have known about this and everyone could have gone about their business.

Also, by asking Conner and Taylor to leave, the bride's mother drew attention to the fact that they were there. She did not do them any favors. She showed no manners or intelligence in doing this. She could have asked them to try to stay in the background, leave a little early or better still just ignore them.

She writes about her ex beaus like it's their fault she fails at relationships. Maybe it's her overblown ego? She should have stayed away from the wedding. Neither had any business being there and both should be embarrassed. But yes, he's a teenager with rocks in his head and Swift is a publicity seeker so I'm sure neither is bothered in the least by the cheap way this made them look.

They call it crashing because he showed up without RSVP'ing in the appropriate time slot, then texting an hour later asking if he and his girlfriend could come. At least, that's what this article says.

Any way Kathie Lee Gifford can keep her face, voice, name in the headlines – She makes me ill. Who gives a rats butt if Connor RSVP'd or not – statistics show less than half will actually do it when its requested! I actually feel sorry for Taylor in this situation – she probably had no idea they were no longer invited, which I also find hard to believe since Connor is family. Taylor has always seemed so mature, sweet and a great roll model for younger girls. Unlike Kathie Lee who just starts drama and spreads gossip!

From the sounds of it, the issue is between Conor and Victoria, not between Swift and the Kennedys. My mother was born and raised in Boston, and the lessons I learned from both my mother and grandmother taught me not to be rude to a guest a family member brought. But I guess things are different in Boston these days, especially if your name is Kennedy...

First of all, the 18 year old Conor probably never got an invitation. It was likely a family invitation his mother would have RSVP'd to, if she hadn't killed herself. So yeah, he was dealing with that...
Swift needs to understand that she's a celebrity and the rules are different. You can't show up at an event after it starts and not expect everybody not to notice. Which is NOT good when the event is another woman's wedding. Swift will learn that when it's her wedding and a bigger star shows up, uninvited and unannounced, after her event has already begun and she gets upstaged on her special day...

First of all, the notion of not having celebrities at Kennedy weddings seems insane. Various Kenedy's have been romantically involved with Daryl Hannah and Schwartzenegger and Peter Lawford. They even allowed that loopy broad Kathie Lee to marry into their clan. So the notion that a celebrity is a distraction is a bit of a stretch.

As for the invitation, this kid just lost his mother. Any hostess with half a brain ( an a tenth of her Kennedy fortune) would have counted inn all those kids with a +1. What is a dozen more squab to the Kennedy clan? When I got married, we planned everything for at least 10 more people than the RSVP list. And I do not have their money.

I was not there, but I would bet a large sum that when the bride saw her similarly aged cousin walk in with Taylor Swift, she probably told him to ignore her batty mother. I can't think of a 20-something bride that would not want a wedding photo with one of the most popular contemporary stars. It would be like one of my cousins bringing Eric Clapton to my wedding. I would have certainly told that cousin to completely ignore my mother, and walked EC to the bar for a whiskey.

No matter how you look at this, I don't see how Taylor Swift gets any grief. She was asked to a wedding by the cousin of the bride. She lives near them, and surely must have heard about these nuptials. Apparently, Ethel Kennedy likes her. Why would she suspect that anythign is awry? My two cents? The mother made this 10 times the drama it needed to be. Instead of asking her to sign a song, she got stupid and nasty.

My opinion is this: First, they invited Conor. He HAD an invitation. I'm assuming his mother's death got in the way of his RSVP'ing, and also, because he is only 18 and a young man, probably is unaware that sending back an RSVP for a wedding is important. Maybe he thought it was no big deal not to send it back, that he was family, he would just be included?? Secondly, I do NOT agree that it was up to Taylor to ask whether it was OK for him to bring her. She probably assumed he's family and was invited and it was OK. How do you go about asking your boyfriend, once he asks you to a wedding, if he received a proper invitation?? That's crazy!! Now, as far as being asked to leave and then NOT leaving?? Not sure about all that. I can't see that in her. She's a nice enough girl, I've watched many interviews of her and it seems that she was raised right and doesn't expect anything of her celebrity. The Kennedy's? Well, it seems they let their social graces down. As far as it being the "Bride's Day" and drawing attention away? Crock of crap! What about the groom? What about the guests? Do you just go and invite people and say, it's all about ME today?? That is incredibly selfish!

First off, when you hold a wedding/reception, a smart host makes allowances for people who arrive who did not RSVP. IMHO, it's rude to invite someone to an event and then ask them to leave when they arrive. I'd also generally say that it's proper manners to RSVP, but give they guy a break. He just lost his mother, so sending back the RSVP may not have been on his mind. Unless TS brought paparazzi, I don't see how her being there would cause an issue unless, of course, someone decides to make it one.

Taylor Swift (just found yesterday who she is) was quite capable of asking a simple question: "Connor, did we receive an invitation?" If the answer was "No," she had the ability to decline any overture by Connor to attend the even. If the answer was "Yes," she had the ability to ask "May I see it, please?"

Having seen Ms. Swift on a daytime "talk" show, and witnessed conceit and self-importance, I am not at all shocked by her reprehensible conduct. She, like other irresponsible young "performers," place themselves in faux-elitism. Of course, many young people who are not "celebrities," often do the same thing.

I do not know of Ms. Swift's level of musical talent. Likely, consistent with so many young "performers," she is a "talent" created by a greedy group of promoters – to exploit even younger children and their inherent susceptibility to negative influence.

Two young people with poorly-developed social skills, at the very least. Pity.

I thought "crashing a party" meant that you were not invited? Although I'm not a follower of Ms. Swift once must argue who is out of line? Although I have not gone through every report most news agencies report that she was approached by a family memmber, the brides mother?, and asked to leave fearing that Swift would take her daughters sun shine away. At any time did the wife to be object to Taylor being there? She was a guest of an invited person and perhaps his "plus one"? Was there a marriage or not? Are the husband and wife expected to live happily ever after? Did Taylor walk into the festivities and yell "Hey Yall I'm Taylor Swift" or did she simply walk in and sit down with her new boyfriend? But lets sum it up with whose wedding was it...the mothers or the daughters? I dont know about you but to look back 50 years from now and say that the biggest singing sensation Taylor Swift attendend my wedding is a much better memory than a mother who is making a scene? JMO

Now, all of a sudden, she's got the story because she was there...who cares? why would someone like her want to get involved in this anyway? She must have another christmas album coming out and needs the press. Otherwise, whether she's the step-mother of the bride's mother or not, she shouldn't be saying anything..not her place.

Miss Swift arrived with an invited guest, her boyfriend. Since it was Mr. Kennedy's responsibility to respond to the invitation I think it was highly tacky, and rude of the mother of the bride to approach Miss Swift and ask her to leave. Her behavior was uncalled for and embarrassing. Every wedding I've ever been to has at least a few unplanned guests. You just get over it and enjoy the day and not cause a scene by demanding someone leave. I think Kathie Lee was even tackier discussing it on her show, but then again she always discusses things that are nobody's business, and nobody actually cares about.

Right...and I believe this story because? Here, let me set the record straight for the "Kennedy mom"...no one cares. But it did make me laugh. Imagine her face...how it "ruined" her day. Priceless. She will die resenting the gf because she is an uppity, what is the word? Bit@#?

Just playing the devil's advocate here.....it takes hundreds of hours of planning a wedding.....moms think about that from the day their little girls are born. Imagine you spent all that time and money – weddings are very stressful for all involved as so much can go wrong – the place settings are all set and suddenly someone shows up who didn't have the courtesy to RSVP. I can see how it would be a big deal to the mom. She wants no one, especially a singing star to upstage that. IMHO

Did Marilyn Monroe ruin President Kennedy's birthday when she sang happy birthday? People with money hire stars to attend weddings, parties and functions they throw all the time for a lot of money and not always just to perform, just to be there. Now i know she wasnt hired, but give me a break, who really upstages a kennedy other than another kennedy in anything they do, and that could go a number of different directions. They could have asked her to sing a song to the happy couple for goodness sakes, like her new song...its time to change your name.... I wonder if arnold schwartzenagger was there?

Everyone getting married knows that some people that RSVP'd won't show and vice versa. Then to tell a relative and his date to leave. The real travesty here is that, in the first sentence of this blog post, the author and CNN (a respected news outlet) have kicked the English language when it's already down. The fourth word of the article should be "loath," an adjective meaning "unwilling," or "reluctant." To loathe is a verb - and only a verb - that means "to detest" or "to abhor." In this context, "loathe" doesn't make any sense - which means that either the author doesn't know the difference, or it was a typo and the editor was asleep on the job. Either way, it's far more galling than a celebrity's social faux pas.

    This being my take.
1.) Why would you sign autographs outside of the venue of someone elses wedding?
2.) If you were asked to leave then why wouldnt you?
3.) If he didnt RSVP and you get there and werent expected the best thing to have done was leave and then send an apology for the inconvenience.
4.) As far as celebrity goes, Victoria Kennedy is the widow of a Kennedy. She isnt one by birth so therefore it might be worthy noting that perhaps yes they had other Kennedy's at the wedding but that they also just had normal people. I would not imagine them having diplomats or major celebrities at the wedding unless it was like was a hollywood wedding.. It was kept quiet right up until the wedding.
5.) Who in their right mind buys a house right down the street from the guys grandmother that you have only been dating for two months. That screams psycho stalker or desperate...neither one looks good.

And why is this important?? We have Americans who are being picked off around the world and you think this is important news to the American people who have children, parents and friends who are serving in the military that I am more interested in.
How absolutely arrogant to think that this girl's wedding is of any interest to any of us.

    1) source Kathie Lee at a party with BOOZE.
    2) Kennedys are alright but the need to stop thinking they are royalty. Americans should bow to no one.
    3) Why is it a big deal?
    4) Taylor Swift looks through people because she CAN.
Snob vs snob. Shame they had to pay for two more plates of food. Gosh that will hurt the Kennedy pocketbook. Remember more is not always merrier when you are false gods.

I'm sure since this wedding was a Kennedy wedding, that Frank Gifford and Kathy Lee are grandparents, that there were many high-profile peole in attendance. This sort of distraction would not be anything new to the Kennedy clan. I think someone doesn't like Taylor Swift.

Even if she did "crash," it's highly unlikely she KNEW that she had. Her boyfriend asks her to attend a wedding with him. 10 bucks says he never told her that he hadn't RSVP'd or received a text not to come. She was his guest. Any fault lies entirely with him. And how mortifying to be confronted and asked to leave on the spot. Any family with class would have let the day proceed and maybe had a quiet talk with the family member later to express feelings, not turned it into a dramatic showdown.

exactly "Coleman82" she probly did not know that she was not invited with her boyfriend so placing the blam all on taylor is discusting. she was just coming to see his family and hang out with him, she was not truing to step on anyones toe, and if the bride was not so unsure of her self taylor being there would not have bothered her she would have just continued to go about her business. thank you very much!!

Connor should have RSVP'd and not expected to drop in at the last minute, but even so the bride's mother admittedly asking Taylor to leave and not directing that request thru Connor seems to me to be beyond rude. Once they were there, I'd have welcomed her, smiled and made do in order not to cause drama and even more disruption.

Two wrongs don't make a right and that faux pas seems much worse to me than Connors as rude and inconvenient as it is. And his is a Kennedy wedding.....you can't tell me Taylor was the only celebrity although admittedly, she probably was the biggest.

I look at this from two points of view. First, this was probably quite an elegant affair. Etiquette says you send an rsvp if you are going to attend the wedding, especially if you are bringing a guest. The wedding planner needs this info for table seating, food, and drinks. Another thing, this is the bride & grooms special day. If a unplanned celebrity shows up, it takes the attention off the bride & groom, and causes a bit of disruption. My second point of view is that he's family, and should be welcome anyway. Personally, I would have probably just let him in without a moments thought. I do understand both sides of the coin, though.

Any wedding planner worth their salt plans for some unexpected guests. And I'm not talking about crashers, but invited guests who failed to properly RSVP. If you have 100 RSVPs, you plan for 103 or 105. Just in case. Duh. And you do NOT tell a relative, especially an 18 year old relative, to leave (even if he improperly RSVPed)! 😉

I wish everyone would get over thinking tht Taylor Swift is squeaky clean. All her songs sound the same. She rarely actually sings. She needs to take singing lessons if she is ever going to do something that is adult now that she is in her 20s. She obviously thinks she is privileged to walk into a wedding uninvited so she can be seen with the KENNEDYs.....come on...get over yourself Taylor. She is a spoiled brat social climber and pushing herself into a family that obviously is not happy about it.

No, wedding receptions are planned seating arrangements. You cannot just "drop in". But I don't expect immature children to understand this. Connor Kennedy is an immature 18 year old and Taylor Swift probably demanded to go as any spoiled celebutate would demand to go. Swift doesn't know who these people are, only that they are "Kennedys" and she needs to go to all the events so Taylor Swift can be "seen" as an important person. Swift is very insecure and pathetic.
