Nicki Minaj, maybe 'Idol' judge, unveils new fragrance

While "American Idol" fans are still waiting to see what will become of those Nick Jonas and Pharrell Williams rumors, on Monday came yet another name to add to the "potential new 'Idol' judge" list: Nicki Minaj.

The fiery rapper is said to be in talks for a judging position on Fox's singing competition, although neither the network nor Minaj's reps had a comment on the reports.

According to Us Weekly, Minaj's deal isn't done, but inside sources claim that she's "definitely" headed for the judges' table. Earlier this month, The Hollywood Reporter suggested that Minaj was among a number of potential celebrities being considered, including Enrique Iglesias and Keith Urban.

The only person currently occupying a seat at "Idol's" judges' table for sure is Mariah Carey, who announced she was joining the show in July. (If you believe the chatter, Carey's rumored to be none too pleased about these suggestions that Minaj will be joining her.)

Longtime judge Randy Jackson remains an unknown factor, as there's been speculation that he'll step back for a mentoring role.

Either way, Minaj herself is keeping quiet. On her Twitter account Monday, the 29-year-old promised a "surprise" for her fans, but it turned out to be the bottle - a sort of self-portrait of the hip-hop star, complete with her "signature pink bob"  - and the name of her new fragrance, Pink Friday.

The scent is expected to arrive in September, Minaj said on Twitter Tuesday, telling a curious follower that the new perfume smells "like angels playing."

Don't you need talent to be a good judge? Stephen Tyler of Aerosmith had been in the biz forever. Paula Abdul was kinda washed up but she was someone who has been around. J-Lo, well, I'm not sure what she ever did. But nicki minaj? Nicki herself could be on American Idol, she doesn't have much talent still lol

    OMG!!
I was glad to have J – HO leave simply because if you're NOT talented how could you be a judge of a talent show. NOW Idol does exactly the same thing!!!! Nigel Lythgoe is AN IDIOT!!!! he's British he has NO IDEA what Americans like. We DO NOT WANT NICKI "NO TALENT" MINAGE or whatever her name is. I'm glad to see they chose Mariah Carey, at least I can take her advice seriously!!!

American Idol and X-Factor are now relying almost entirely on "celebrity" judges to carry their shows. What made Idol interesting in the beginning was that they had two almost unknown judges and a third who was an entertainer considered well past her prime. It was an unlikely mix but it worked. Simon brought industry know-how. Randy brought the experience of a musician and producer, and Paula's past as a singer and choreographer gave her believable credibility when it came to assessing new talent. In essence, they came across as industry veterans who knew what they were talking about.

And now we have Nicki Minaj, Demi Lovato, and Britney Spears... Regardless of your feelings about any of them, the reality is that these are not people perceived as mature and developed talent who are grounded enough to provide mentoring and guidance to a crop of up and coming singers. Nicki Minaj is largely perceived as a goof. Britney is a recovering train wreck, and Demi Lovato... well, I don't really know anything about her so can that really be a good thing? This is as bad a decision as making Ellen Degeneres a judge. She was a comedian and talk show host – how the hell could she judge singers? When you pander to the audience via recognizable faces rather than reliable insiders, you risk the chance of just becoming the 2000's version of the Gong Show. I think we will continue to see these shows decline and eventually fade away.

She is a no talent hack. Just because you are flamboyant does not mean you are talented.

How does anyone expect idol to be taken seriously if they have a "talent" judge who is completely devoid of any discernible talent.

The type of people who listen to NM aren't the sharpest tool in the shed for sure. In fact they would need a dictionary for the words devoid and discernible. Do they have them in prison? I will never understand how this one made it...

I say no to Minaj. I think Mariah, Randy and Pharrell would be perfect. Minaj is a child and acts as such. Don't really care how "serious" she can get. Have no confidence in her ability to judge other peoples talent. Too bad they lost JLo and Steven as that was the best three ever. Without Simon the show has changed for me anyway. Mean or not, truth is the truth and these singers need to hear that whether it hurts their feelings or not. That's Business !! Randy should not back out as he knows the business and is not shy about telling it like it is. This is real life and it is basically an interview for these singers and they have to be able to take criticism as any of of would and do in our everyday jobs. With Minaj on the show I won't be so worried if I miss it or forget to record it. God Bless you all and have a wonderful day !!

What funny about this story, that Nicki Minaj told Jlo when she was performing on Idol In March 29, she told Jlo I want your job, and Jlo replied, theirs no room for the two of us. I guess Nicki Minaj wasn’t playing around, she got her wish, I think she will be in entertaining side of Idol, because she has a crazy personally, but I think she can get serious when she wants to, because it takes a serious person to accomplish what she has done a few years she has been in the music industry, she portray that crazy person as part of her act, but I can tell she’s a serious person. So Jlo, steps aside for the real super stars.

Peachy.....her voice sucks! Have never enjoyed one of her songs......and never will. You should listen to a REAL singer.....Jennifer Hudson. SHE has talent,.....not a husband who owned a record company to get her in the public eye.

Not sure if it's true that Mariah is not pleased with a Minaj choice, but the show needs a more seasoned judge. Aretha Franklin has been around a long time and she has worked with younger artist and I'm sure they've learned from her. It would be nice to also consider Faith Hill. just a thought.
