From “Inception” to “The Dark Knight Rises,” Joseph Gordon-Levitt has made a name for himself as an action star after more than 20 years in the biz.
But in an interview with Playboy, the actor said he’s ready to take on a role that’s “closer to me personally.”
“I would like to do a musical, if I could find a cool one,” Gordon-Levitt told the magazine. “A song-and-dance role is closer to me personally than other characters I play.”
Referencing the “Why Do You Let Me Stay Here” music video he made with “(500) Days of Summer” co-star Deschanel and director Mark Webb, he said, “When Zooey and I danced in that video, it was just us having a great time, just being ourselves.”
Despite the on-screen chemistry between Gordon-Levitt and Deschanel, and fans’ hopes that the pair might get together, the actor says they’re just friends.
“It’s awkward when people say that,” he said. “Whatever. Zooey and I just think it’s funny. It is funny. We’ve been friends for 10 years.”
So what does Gordon-Levitt look for in a partner?
“Making checklists of things you’re looking for in a person is the numero uno thing you can do to guarantee you’ll be alone forever,” he said. “You can’t meet someone and think, ‘Do they have everything I want in a person?’ You just have to pay attention, keep your eyes open, listen to people and be present. I guess what I look for in a girl is someone who’s doing that too. Beyond that there’s not much more I would specify.”
Catch Gordon-Levitt in the action flick “Premium Rush,” out Friday. “Looper,” in which he stars alongside Bruce Willis, is due out on September 28.
