Honey Boo Boo Child's mom: Our family's crazyIf you saw Alana Thompson, better known to the world as Honey Boo Boo Child, on TLC's "Toddlers & Tiaras" in January, you had to know it was only a matter of time before a kid that energetic and expressive landed a show of her very own. [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3za0rObEzeI&w=560&h=315%5D TLC is set to debut her new show, "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," Wednesday on the network, following the 6-year-old pageant contestant and her family as they go about their everyday lives in rural Georgia.
The Thompson clan includes dad Sugar Bear, a chalk-miner; sisters Lauryn ("Pumpkin"), Jessica ("Chubbs"), and Anna ("Chickadee"); and mom June, whom viewers of "Toddlers & Tiaras" will remember. June told CNN in an interview that the idea for the show was born after Alana's appearance on TLC's reality series about young pageant contestants. "America kind of wanted to know what our life was like outside of the pageant world, and this show will portray [that]," June said. "We do a lot of mud bogging, four-wheel riding, going to community events," she said of the family's lifestyle. Viewers will still see the preparation for pageants, but it's mainly focused on the Thompson family "and the crazy things we do to pass the time by," June said. "I think America will get the gist of who we actually are." June and her daughter haven't received positive feedback from all viewers, but the stay-at-home mom said that she has no regrets about signing on for the show. "People are going to talk, good and bad, and it is what it is," she said. "My family, we enjoy what we've done and I would do it again." At the very least, it does sound like those tuned in will be entertained. "My family is crazy and - like, crazy. We're not boring," June said. "People have opinions, but if people actually sit down and talk with me and my family or talk with Alana, you'll see that Alana thoroughly enjoys doing what she does, and that we're not ignorant people like everybody says." As far as how much longer June sees her family being in the spotlight, that decision's up to Alana. "We may do it for the next six months, we may end it next month," June told us. "When [Alana] doesn't want to do TV or pageants, then we quit everything and go back to our normal lives. We live a very normal life outside of the cameras and outside of the pageant world." I forced myself to watch five minutes of this Honey Boo Boo crap when I was on sick leave one night. I knew the show was idiotic, but not as pathetic as what I witnessed in a mere five minutes. To see Boo Boo's morbidly obese mother preparing a Thanksgiving turkey, while her obese little Boo Boo daughter is dousing her dirty little hands in a tub of butter, butter falling in chunks on the dirty old and ugly kitchen floor, scooped up by her mother's filthy hands and smeared on the turkey. God what slobs! What a disgusting and ugly house they live in! That crappy old kitchen looks like it's over fifty years old. The only remodel done in a one hundred year old house. And then there's the other family with the tobacco spitting father and the rest of the clan which are all porkers. Just a simple minded, low class hillbilly family that supposedly represents "the American way of living." Why do Americans enjoy crap television of this nature so much? Are we as a nation really getting that much dumber? This is actually considered a form of entertainment? Yeah, I remember when the TLC channel once catered to a niche of intelligent viewers, with intelligent programs, and it truly was The Learning Channel. Now like most of everything on the tube it's got to be dumbed down to epidemic proportions! Holy Toledo this is scary!

Honey Boo Boo is so adorable. I think she's the greatest child actress ever!. And she's one of the cutest too. Honey is going to go places with her cuteness and acting talents. She proves to be a smart child too becuase she supports President Barac Obama! Wow, I think that is so cool that this child is versed in politics at such a young age. Her parents are so easy going and welcoming. They seem like such a warm and nurturing family. I wish I had neighbors who were the type who'd like to come over and sit and have a talk once in a while with friendly kids. I wish sweet Honey Boo Boo all my best and thank you to TLC for making my lonely says with such happy, friendly TV shows that really touch the heart and soul. i only hope that people who disrespect the Honey Boo Boo show will start believing in it because it is real family life lucky enough to have their own TV show.

Well gee maybe if the parents would control how she eats she wouldn't look that way and maybe if they begin controlling her diet she won't look that way when she becomes a teen and maybe if they didn't plant her picture all over the TV after letting her get like that people won't have room to say anything.Gee boo boo for her maybe the blame should land on the parents .The public looks at her and sees how the parent over feed her and now that she has become over weight so they call her on it and of course now the public is the bad ones not the parents who stuffed her full of picky sticks and chicken nuggets o they are the prefect parents they have nothing wrong blah blah blah.Maybe instead of calling the public so awful for calling this little fat girl fat you should yell at parents for letting her get fat to begin with.
I think that this obese family should be put on a diet. If that is how they really act, there is something wrong with this redneck family and should all be put in therapy.. No one person can be that stupid.

I cant believe most of the people that wrote these comments are even "Mature Adults"! Wake Up, Just because this family may not be as well Educated as Most, Or live in a $150,000 house doesnt make them "White Trash". In my opinion shes alot smarter than most, June is an Extreme Couponer, I myself would like to know her secrets.lol She's pretty smart when it comes to shopping. As for the daughter having a baby at a young age. Who are you to Judge? This happens to alot of families, it doesnt mattter what class, or side of the tracks you come from. It can happen to your family. As far as Little Honey Boo Boo, Hey its all about having FUN and she looks like shes having FUN, and the great thing now is shes getting paid for it. That is exactly how i see it. Don't like it Flip the channel. I have no problem flipping when FOOTBALL is on. As long as they are having fun, life is to short to worry about what someone else thinks.
This is child exploitation at the worst, and Alana needs to be taken from her "family" and put up for state adoption, so she can have a NORMAL childhood. This is worse than "toddlers and tiaras", which needs to be yanked off the air. The so-called "parents" make themselves believe that the kid is "having fun", when it's clear to anyone with half a functioning brain cell that the child would MUCH rather be playing with friends.
Where's Alana going to be in six years, when she loses her "cute" little looks? What's momma going to do now for $? I hope she uses the money now for therapy for her child.

What is mind boggling is that God has allowed people such as the Thompson's the ability to procreate. Life would be great if there were an uncurable disease that would eliminate trash like this from the face of the earth.
what rude comments from you and so many others! this family may not be highly educated, but from what i've seen they don't seem like the type of people who sit around making hateful, narrow-minded comments about others. THAT is the kind of person we need less of in this world. they are a family that cares about each other, enjoys their lives, and doesn't make excuses.. it's sad to realize that they're in many respects being exploited by TLC, but at the end of the day they've got each other and i think there is something to be said for that.

at first glance i thought this a train wreck of a show with an equally train wreck family but the mom is actually a pretty good mom. Yes, they are short on etiquette and Chickadee is following in her mother's foot steps by getting pregnant as a teen (but apparently every family can experience that even the daughter of a Gov). After watching Toddlers and Tiaras, this mom is fairly sane and not trying to live her life through her child. Some of the other mothers on there are permanently scarring their children but I think Alana will survive ok – not grow up to be a doctor or lawyer or even go to college but maybe she will be a pageant director 😉 I think the family clearly loves each other and supports each other and that's more than most families with perfect etiquette can boast about !

Here's the deal in response to those who say, if you don't like it don't watch it. Come on, really? We all pay for satellite or cable and when the package comes with TLC (a totally crappy channel that used to be good) we are paying for garbage like Honey Boo Boo. Just the name is revolting! Whether we watch or not, we're paying for the antics of some fat little redneck kid and her dirty-looking creepy family. I am canceling my satellite service simply because these days, there is literally NOTHING on worth watching and HBB is at the top of the list. The show actually makes me nauseous – well, the five minutes I saw of it did anyway. Not even worth owning a television these days. It's sad really.

My husband and I watched it and laughed the whole time. It is refreshing and funny to see them make fun of themselves and they are so comfortable with who they are. On the flip side, the kids should not be eating cheese balls for breakfast and drinking so much pop. And why did the teen get pregnant? Didn't the mom have "the talk" with her? Where are the older girls' father(s)? I don't like people just having kids just because. It is a serious commitment.

Nobody commenting here ever helped this family, but everybody thinks they are better and can criticize. They have a lot of bills to pay like all of us, and the Learning Channel will help with that. They may not be your image of beauty, but I think its beautiful that they are so close and unashamed of who they are. They live their life, and share it with you. Do you dare to share your life with the world? I don't. And I wish my kids got along like they do. I'm no beauty, and would never dream to enter a pageant. They dream, and they do. OMG!! What little I have seen of this Honey Boo Boo child and family I find utterly disgusting and revolting. I guess a child that is dressed like a street walker with the excuse that it's a 'beauty pageant' , a family that has such ill manners like passing flatulence, a pregnant 17 year old daughter, and parents who have no idea what proper nutrition is and how important it is to a child's health is now considered entertaining then TV has now stooped lower than 'Keeping up with the Kardashians' and I didn't think that was possible. Haven't watched the show yet, just read the news. Truly nauseating. Back to the Animal Planet where 'moms' have protective maternal instincts and don't eat their young.

I watched the show out of sheer entertainment purposes. As crazy as it might be, who are we to judge their lifestyle. I really felt bad for her on the natural pageant. The family appears to be full of personality or they would not have a reality show. I do not like pageants nor support them but I admire them for standing up to try their best and not be beaten down. I view the mother to have a heart of gold and really cares for her family. Honey Boo Boo is a very adorable child. She seems to confident, sassy and hilarious not spoiled like these other pageant girls.

If the networks thought enough people would watch a show about grass growing, it would be on TV. I do agree it's sad. These people shouldn't scare you. If you watched the show you would see that they are good-hearted people who are ignorant of what we call culture and they do not care. The child is extremely intelligent as you could see by her calculating how much she was saving during the couponing expedition. The mother cannot make the comebacks and witicisms that she does without above average intelligence. They are not very educated, but they love each other and it is entertaining.

The problem I have with this show is the exploitaion of a child. Who cares about the way the family chooses to live their lives. I certainly do not. However, this is a young child who will one day have to deal with the backlash this program will bring to her as she grows older. The family and the network should seriously reconsider before they continue to trash any future this child may have.
Some of the comments are truly hateful and mean. Get a grip people, seriously. It's a show that has been put out there for entertainment. If it doesn't entertain you, don't watch. Simple as that.
Looking past some of the crassness of the show, I see a family that loves each other and a family that loves to have fun. They have a decent home, it looks clean , the husband is a hard worker and the Mom has a great time with her kids. How is that bad?
Sure beats the wealthy families whose kids spend their childhood days alone with their video games rather than their parents. We'll surely read about some of those types of kids in the newspaper when they go on the next shooting rampage.

I could not agree more! If you do not like it, don't watch it. Stop judging them for being themselves and not being ashamed of it! Most people are being hateful becuase they see so much of themselves in this family. Get over it folks, change the channel and leave the remarks about them out of it. Take a look at yourself and your family life before you try and talk about how another person lives. Would this show be better for you if ti was starring Anglina Jolie and Brad Pitt???? This is America, everyone has a right to live and pursue happiness, and that is excatly what they are doing. Love the show and hopes it goes on for a long time.

June also stated that "none of the fathers of her other three daughters are involved in her daughter's lives either....including the father of her 17 yr old daughter's out of wedlock baby"....THAT is the example June has set for ALL 4 of her daughters...it's ok to push out illegimate children by difrerent men & then have the men disappear from the kdis lives.

I totally agree! My first thought was "OMG! Where do they live?" When I found out they were from GA, I said, "oh, Thank You Jesus, that these people are not from my home state of WV!" However, I live in GA now and it's even more embarrassing! What is wrong with these people???
Mom I hope you're reading this...give your beautiful daughter a fair chance at a normal life. The world outside of her family is cruel and she will quickly learn that...if she hasn't already. Criticism is tough to deal with for a child. don't put her out there like that, that's not fair to her. The rest of you, grow up.
The South is a scary, SCARY place.
It's really, REALLY not. For some reason the media focuses on this type of person when portraying the South, but I've never met people like this before in my life, and I've lived in the South all my life. I do, however, know a large number or rocket scientists, missile defense specialists and engineers (I live in one of several NASA cities in the South). Sadly, ignorance is all too common in the world. People like you are truly ignorant because you don't want to know the truth. You get your culture and education from reality TV instead of from reputable sources, and you probably always will. I pity you for your ignorance and stupidity. Go back to watching cartoons. Honey Boo Boo is probably too sophisticated for you.

How dare any of you parents critcize this little girl, when you have children of your own I know you would stick up for if someone were talking about them. You know how you feel about your kids. I'm also sorry that instead of taking high priced vacations around the world they're at home having the times of their lives with their community, something I highly doubt any of you would know anything about. I am from GA. and know the area that these people live in. These people live in Mcintyre and the only thing in that area is a couple of kaolin mines and pine trees. Most of the people are poor, under educated and live the way they do by choice. 30 miles away Mercer has a medical and law school on a very large campus. The sad part of all of this is that TLC is making fun of the family, and of course the family is all too happy to let them. TLC and other low budget production companies love the drama TV shows. They pay no actors, union rates, props, extras, and they do not have to pay royalties to actors, that is why you see so many of these crude shows on TV now. I am afraid you are seeing the future of our country with these people as we now live in a country that has only50% of it's citizens paying income taxes. Our country is on a downward slide and we may not recover.

The only thing I don't understand is why it's on the Learning Channel, but other than that, I don't see the problem. I mean, shows like this have been around, The only difference is they are rich! I mean, is there such a fuss over Jersey Shore and shows like that? Belive me they act like trash too! Just because they look good, doesn't make them less trashier. I have seen alot worse things. I thought Here comes Honey Boo was a cute, funny show and I think the family (wheather I agree with their lifestyle or not) was very sweet and seemed like they all loved each other very much! Personally the show was funny in a sad way. It made me thankful that my mother taught me manners and respect for myself and she definitely would not have approved if I were pregnant at 17. I watched this show last night and I'm thankful for many things. I'm not a red neck, I'm not 17 and pregnant, I'm not overweight nor are my children overweight, I know not to pass gas in public, my 3 year old has perfect manners, I dont own a pet pig and say its cool if he's gay and I have all my teeth. After watching it last night here in Jamaica WI, I can only conclude that this family needs some sand paper and some DD40 to smooth them down. The poor lady trying to teach them some simple etiquette and she was at a lost to see how they behaved. This is something you watch when you are deeply stress and need to take your mind off important issues.

Holy cow. It's pretty funny how worked up people get over something so stupid. This show may be tasteless, but it's really nothing to get the undies in a bundle over. And there were legitimately funny moments in the episodes I watched. Families come in all sorts of packages, and this one–although extremely uncultured and sometimes crude–was scarily entertaining! Intelligent, thinking people know very well that this family doesn't represent the majority of Georgians/Southerners, so no worries there. Grab a bowl of popcorn and relaaaaaaaax.........

An overweight woman telling viewers shes going to scratch her "bugs" as she scratches her head......a young unmarried girl having an ultrasound....the rest of the overweight family eating Cheese Puffs, throwing them all over the floor and then picking them up and eating them; but the worst....passing gas. I watched the show last night and I have to say before I saw it I was turned off. I am not a reality show watcher and more than likely I will not watch again, but not because I found them unappealing. As a matter of fact they were enduring a loving family trying to make a life for themselves. I am not in favor of all their decisions, but who I’m I to judge anyone. She did go on to say she got her GED and as happy her daughter was staying in school and with the SUPPORT of the family she will be able to complete school.

It truly is. I guess one of my kids set this up to record because I've never heard of these people before and I wondered what in the heck a "Honey Boo Boo Child" was.... well, let's just say that's 15 minutes of my life I'll never get back! I can't agree enough.... truly pathetic and sad.....
Apparently CNN didn't like my rant about this, so I will try again. Apparently there is a love affair for the Redneck culture, but when it comes to a family that has a 17 y/o pregnant child and child who is being exploited, by two overweight parents, and adding the "sugar daddy goo-goo names to this" is like some perveted idea of family values. I didn't know that TLC stood for "The Lewd Channel", but if this is what they are putting on their Fall lineup, then it is time to reassess their network.
It is not surprising that this is happening, and it isn't political issue, take a look at Bristol Palin, and you realize that EVEN conservatives are dysfunctional. But as long as the Rednecks vote for the conservatives, this stupid programing will continue.!

TLC has a lot of bad programming for certain - but I do recommend the Little Couple. Dr. Jen Arnold and Bill Klien are an exception to the exploitation programming on TLC.
Oh, it's kind of obvious that TLC knows exactly what they're doing. This family is controversial. Controversial shows have always gotten good ratings. They understand that, and clearly all that matters to them is the money. They don't care that this girl is going to grow up warped and socially awkward thanks to her horrible mother. All they care about is that the public responds to that sort of thing, ergo, they get more cash.

I actually watched this show last night and found it funny. This is how they live there life so who is anyone to judge them. Last time I checked there wasn't a handbook on how someone should live their life. So what they are rednecks. They are living and doing what they want in their life. I AM overweight. I'm trying very hard to change my lifestyle. I've changed the way I eat (no more fast food, sugar or soda), joined a gym and got a trainer. I AM overweight, but I don't think it's cute. What's worse than these people being overweight is that they seem to me to be obnoxious. I don't watch TV as a rule, but I would only tune into this to watch the train wreck once....and truthfully, I'm sure I will forget all about it by tonight.

I'm at a loss for words on this. I did see the episode that featured Alana back in January on Toddlers & Tiaras. I thought the child was adorable and way mature than her age ("y'all better recognize!"). I do intend to watch the first episode tonight. If I feel Alana is being exploited in a way that makes fun of her and her family, then I won't be watching again. Something about T&T is toubling as it is. There is something troubling about the exposure these little girls are getting and the heavy makeup and skimpy outfits some of them wear (forced). And for all the trailer trash/white trash bashing – well, this is a part of America whether we are embarassed or not. The Thompson family still belong to us because they are still Americans.

I personally do not like the show (just the show, not the family themselves, just the show) just because it is exploitation, exploitation that TLC uses to milk ratings and thats all that matters to tv channels today, ratings. This isn't even the first time there was exploitation from TLC because they've did this with John and Kate +8, Toddlers and Tiaras, and the Duggars (they've did this).
