Christie Brinkley: Embrace what makes you uniqueSupermodel Christie Brinkley made waves in the late 1970s and early 1980s as the cover girl for the annual Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. These days, she’s more at home on the Broadway stage, where she just finished up a stint as Roxie Hart in the musical "Chicago." In a recent interview with CNN, Brinkley talked about how she got her start, and what set her apart from other models.
“It was the fact that I wasn't skinny or sophisticated that made my career. I was a California surfer girl,” Brinkley said. “When I first got out on the set, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, nobody here has hips like mine, let me move my hips to the side like this,’ and the photographer was like, ‘Oh my God you move so well.’” Brinkley also said that while the fashion industry has grown to embrace models of different ethnic backgrounds and body types, magazines should do their part and refrain from criticizing women’s bodies. “We have to watch out for tabloid magazines who want to focus on one spot of cellulite and make a big deal about it. There are so many outlets that are focusing on such negative stuff, which gives terrible issues to girls everywhere,” Brinkley said. “I have always been about the opposite of that and making people understand that something you may not appreciate really makes you the most unique.” To find out who we’re talking to next and to ask your favorite celebrity a question, visit our iReport Interview page. |
