Steven Tyler leaving 'American Idol'

Steven Tyler has announced he’s leaving “American Idol.”

Tyler, who joined the show in its 10th season, sat at the judges table alongside Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez for two seasons. (And rumors are swirling that Jackson and Lopez may be looking to leave “Idol,” as well.)

“After some long...hard...thoughts…I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress ‘American Idol’ before she boils my rabbit,” Tyler said in a statement from Fox. “I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I’m back - but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I’ve got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band.

Aerosmith’s 15th studio album, “Music From Another Dimension,” is due out on November 6.

“‘Idol’ was over-the-top fun," Tyler said, and I loved every minute of it…Now it’s time to bring Rock Back. ERMAHGERD.”

Look guys ik I'm behind the times but I am a freak over aerosmith and if u read this I'm sure you would no that anyway I'm only 13 and so I couldn't have loved him since the 60s when rocks came out. But I grew up in a rock based family and I have known aerosmith was a band for as long as I can remember. When Steven joined American idol I discovered who he really was to me. Ever since then I have bot 21 aerosmith albums and I listen to them all. Steven is the bomb and you cant do anything to change that and hes been called a girl all his life so you dont need togive him anymore crap forthat

II was a fan of Zerosmith since their first album in the 60s. But I completely lost respect for Steven Tyler while watching him on American Idol. He wasn't there to judge or help those kids. He sounded like he wrote all those quips ahead of time. Won't be buying any more of their music.

This guy is a hoot! An addict, but a real hoot. AmerIdol asked him to clean up his act. Maybe he's back at Aerosmith because he gained some confidence, and maybe was off the drugs and booze enough to get his life back and into some funny commercials on TV and really brought him back to life for Aerosmith. Hope he stays clean and sober. At times he really appears to be. But he's gone. Now I'd like to see Mariah Carey as judge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Prince probably wouldn't be caught dead there..... Sigh.

Oh, gentle, gullible readers, you who have vehmently disagreed with my worldly and insightful comments simply showed how ignorant and insipid you truly are. It warms my heart to see the idiocy of simple-minded people who watch the show, drool over it, buy the "music" and wait in line for hours just for the chance to get your ears split by the screaching and warbling. This woman knows talent and this show has been lacking it for a decade.

Do the decent thing: let the show die in the obscurity that many of the "artists" have fallen into.

I don't care what people think. Randy, JLo, and Steven made for a good panel. I liked all of them. Judging is difficult when you have to let down young people who obviously have talent, but just need to work on it more. It's not like they vote the winner, the public does. Phillip Phillips is talented and deserved to win. I think that if American Idol wants to continue with the ratings, they need Chuck Lorre and Charlie Sheen on the same panel. Better yet, a panel consisting of Snooki, Charlie Sheen, and Randy would make for some great TV.

I watched the first two seasons. The viewers seemed to actually vote for who they thought sang the best. Now, it seems like who ever is the "cutest" is going to win, whether they are the best singer or not. More of a popularity contest now. Time to put it out to pasture.

The original concept for the show was good but the production has morphed into something of a cuts popularity contest. This year's winner, Phillip Phillips, just doesn't seem to have any real talent. Yes, he can and does do interesting song rearrangements but the timbre and range of his vocals just isn't there. I think the show has probably lasted longer than anyone ever dreamed it would.

I used to like that you can comment on articles, but there are so many haters and people who just want to hide behind their computers and say stupid things about articles they don't 'care' about that I wish CNN would do away with the comments. Fox did and I'm glad. If you don't have anything nice to say or don't care about the topic, we don't want to read your drivel.

These guys know music and they spell ENTERTAINMENT in CAPITAL LETTERS.. Women are half the audience or more. These two have been special bonuses on American Idol. Bring on Adam Lambert if he can behave himself.. 🙂 Afterall, he simply has an incredible voice, nice on the eyes without all the dracula makeup.... Farewell to Steven... Oh, gentle, gullible fools, American Idol has been dead for years. Let the decent thing be done and be done with the show. There is no talent (contestant or judge-wise) and the judges performing on the show only serve to self-promote a failing career. And Jackson calling everyone "dawg" got old from the first utterance (as a strong independent woman I would resent being referred to as a canine).

Those who are intelligent know the show is inane and insipid. Those who follow the show are the same. And those who disagree only validate my point.

Idol needs to bring in people based on what they can add to the judge's panel rather than what they can add to the credits. Idol started off with an over the hill pop star and 2 guys most of the public hadn't ever heard of. They could pull 3 people off the street and they'd be 3 of the biggest names on TV before the season starts. They don't need to hire big names. They MAKE big names.
They need to go back to how they did it the first time. Cast a panel with public unknowns who have some minimal experience in the music business who have a good group chemistry. Then bring in the big names as mentors and guest performers.

Aerosmith's renewed popularity is due to Tyler's charisma on Idol, opening up a new fan base. When he leaves Idol he'll lose that. It's like when Conan O'Brien got the tonight show and completely ignored and insulted the older viewers with his "masturbating bear" and youth-only based humor. You don't throw away a possible fan base without taking a hit and Tyler's going to find that out in the reverse way O'Brien did.

Musicians do it all the time! Only difference here is that it's being done with half the world watching the process and buying the results in the forms of CD's, downloads and live concerts. All of the judges on IDOL , past and present, have been invaluable resources for young artists who, otherwise, may not have EVER gotten a chance like this. If I hear Jennifer Lopez say "it's crazy" one more time, I think I will go crazy. She talks like a 5-year-old. And Randy's vocabulary is limited to about 25 words. Can't they put somebody on who is a little articulate?

I never thought much about this guy until he voluntarily went into rehab. and to see how much his wife and children were concerned and loved him. He must be doing something right. And he can Rock too.

He's been in rehab about a dozen times and it's never worked for him. I don't think he takes it seriously. It's amazing he hasn't died from a drug overdose. Although his face certainly shows a lot of years of hard living. I liked Steven on the show–he was kind and knowledgable. That's why I read his memoir. What a waste of time that was. He must have been high when he wrote it.

He just did that show for fun because he doesn't need the money. He needs a break. Time for drugs, booze and rock and roll.

Thank goodness! I love Steven as a rock frontman, but hated him as an Idol judge.

He was a good ROCK frontman. What he's not so great at is fronting the doddering old lounge act that's going around using the name "Aerosmith" for some reason. The Rolling Stones are 15 years older and can still get it together to whoop that ***, why not this lot? I know they got it in 'em. That blues covers album was a step in the right direction, especially recording in that stripped-down, off-the-cuff style, which is what they used to be so good at. A young Saul Hudson heard "Rocks" and later turned into Slash. Nobody's listening to "Just Push Play" and being inspired to become a rock god.

Dude really does look like a lady. Like Mary Tyler (any relation?) Moore, old and on a bad day.
