'So You Think You Can Dance' saves best for lastIn the first live show of the season, "SYTYCD" definitely saved the best for last. It started off slow. Not bad, just unmemorable. Whitney and Chehon kicked the show off with a samba that felt more boring than spicy – there wasn't a connection between them. In their Sonya Tayeh contemporary routine, Tiffany and George were pretty, but rough. And Janaya and Brandon were just OK in a Nappytabs hip-hop number. Alexa and Daniel's red costumes were hotter than their jazz routine. Guest judge Kenny Ortega ("High School Musical," "Newsies") even warned them that they'll have to show their personalities a lot more if they want to continue on in the competition. Then things started to get good: Amber and Nick performed a beautiful Viennese waltz, which judge Mary Murphy called dreamy. The only flaw? Amber's feet. Mary said it looked like she felt uncomfortable in her shoes. Will and fan favorite Amelia bumped things up another notch with a cat-themed hip-hop routine that felt more like a hip-hop/jazz/Broadway mashup. Next came Dareian and Janelle with an African jazz routine, and Eliana and Cyrus with a Broadway number. Both pairs had tons of energy, character and personality. Then it was time for the routine of the night: Audrey and Matthew did a Travis Wall, Titanic-themed contemporary piece. There were audible groans from the audience at the music choice – "Unchained Melody" – but soon everyone was captivated. Wall outdid himself with this gorgeous piece. Both dancers threw themselves into the story. I bet this routine will be featured on the finale as one of the favorites of the season. Finally, there was a paso doble featuring Lindsay and Cole. The judges stood up for this one, declaring it the best paso ever done on the show. However, it was a little much for me. (I felt like they were trying too hard.) We'll have to wait a whole week to see the results, and the stakes are high: Four people will go home next Wednesday, two guys and two girls. What did you think of last night's performances? cole and Linsay are wonderful together.
I love cyrus I could watch him dance all night. He puts a smile on my face every time hes on the stage. I really hope he wins this year.
I am so glad this show was renewed for this season!! Hopefully next season too, hint hint!
First, those kids sure can dance! I couldn't do even 1/4 of what they can. That being said I can tell you that I agree with the writer~ that the begining of the show was flat, except for Whitney shaking what her momma gave her. The Sonya T.'s dance was unmemorable, but was that because of the dancers that performed her piece, or the softer side of Sonya. I guess I will find out in the following weeks. (I usually love her pieces) My favorite was the Will and Amelia's Broadway/Jazz rountine! Entertaining and energetic two thumbs up!! The Paso was full of energy and good form, but I didn't love it as much as everyone else
That Paso Doble wasn't too much for me! If Matthew and Audrey flipped routines with Cole and Lindsay, in my opinion, Cole and Lindsay would have done Travis Wall's piece great, but maybe not as well. However, Matthew and Audrey wouldn't have done the PASO anywhere near as well. The great thing is – we'll get to see if that's the case in the upcoming weeks as the couples do different genres.
