Ann Curry steps down from 'Today' post“Today" co-anchor Ann Curry confirmed speculation on Thursday with an announcement that she's stepping down from her anchor spot but not leaving the network. Curry told viewers that Thursday marks her last time co-hosting, but she will go on to tell stories for other NBC News shows, including "Today."
The long-time anchor was surrounded by the rest of the hosting staff when she made the announcement, including Matt Lauer, Al Roker and Natalie Morales. The moment arrived roughly a week after reports surfaced that she was headed for an exit. “This is not easy to say but today is going to be my last morning as a regular co-host," Curry began tearfully. "I will still be a part of the 'Today' show family but I’m going to have a new title and a new role. And this is not as I expected... I never expected to leave this couch after 15 years, but I am so grateful, especially to all of you who watch, because Matt and I and everyone who sits on this couch, we often call ourselves a family. But you are the real 'Today' show family.” Curry continued, “You are why I have ventured into dangerous places and interviewed dictators and jumped off of planes and off of bridges and climbed mountains and landed in the South Pole and convinced the Dalai Lama to come live in our studio,” she said of the work she's done over the past 15 years. “For all of you who saw me as a groundbreaker,” she continued, “I’m sorry I couldn’t carry the ball over the finish line but man, I did try. And so to all of you who watched, thank you from the bottom of my heart for letting me touch yours.” Curry also gave viewers a peek into her new role for NBC. “They’re giving me some fancy new title, which essentially means that I’m going to get tickets to every big story we want to cover with a terrific team of my choosing ... we’re going to go all over the world and all over this country at a time when this country and this world needs clarity,” she explained. “We’re going to do great work, I hope, and we’re being given the chance to do the work that most of us got into journalism to do. And these stories are going to air on all the platforms of NBC News, including here on 'Today.'” At one point she joked as Lauer looked on, "After all of these years I don’t know if I can sleep in anymore!” “You have the biggest heart in the business,” Lauer said. “The way you care about people comes through in every single story you report." Morales reached out to take the very emotional Curry’s hand and praise her for what she’s already done for the show and what she will do in the future. It is not yet known when Curry will begin her new duties. |

Best stuff I've seen in awhile. Great blog, great authoring, great every thing.
I used to be a big fan of NBC morning show but now without Ann Curry, the show doesn't appeal to me anymore. I really hate the way she was dismissed from the show. She is so intelligent and a wonderful reporter. We all love Ann Curry and we are very sad that this happened to her. NBC is making a terrible mistake.
From one oregonian to another, You are the best. They dont know what they have lost. i cant wait to see your many talents 🙂 Good luck Ann <3
What a mistake to treat Ann so poorly! You need her so sweet manners to offset the obnoxious manner of interviewing that Matt has developed! He words his questions to make sure the listner knows HIS view on every subject rather than the experts he interviews. The TV Controller makes it so quick to switch to something else – anything else!
See you Ann. It's been fine.
Ann Curry was so-so as co anchor, but the problem is the TODAY show as a whole. Five minutes of real news, the rest is nonsense, fluff. The world is such an interesting place, why do we need to know what the octomom is up to?? We don't care!! The show dumbs down the culture of America and makes us look like idiots. Let's get some substance here. Also, where is Harry Smith?? He should be sitting in for Matt when he is away. Harry is a natural at being a host. I now watch the first 30 minutes of CBS Morning to get some "real" news.
j never liked her. i agree that her sincerity always seemed fake and manufactured. i liked katie though. never saw meredith on it cuz i stopped watched the boob's tube back in 2001.
Her sense of journalism is far above NBC and what they consider news.
Chin up Ann? She's getting millions of dollars and still has a job with NBC. I'm sorry but I do not understand this outpouring.
Being a HUGE fan of "Today", I took a couple hours out of our NYC vacation to watch the taping of the show at Rockefeller Center plaza last September. Ann, by far, was the most genuine and kind of the bunch, which was even more evident when the cameras were off and she took the time to take photos and seemed to be really engaged with the folks she conversed with. Al was a close second!! In contrast, Matt and Savannah came across as being aloof and quickly ducked inside after taping their respective segments. After years of loyal viewership I have not watched "Today" since Ann was unceremoniously let go, nor do I intend to. NBC, business is business, but the WAY in which you let Ann Curry go surely will cost you viewership. GMA isn't so bad.
Try CBS This Morning with Charlie Rose, Erica Hlll and Gail King – much more time devoted to real stories, minimal fluff.
I totally agree with you. I will not be watching the Today show anymore I am watching Good Morning America. Ann you will be missed. I was looking forward to her covering the Olympics, Hope Robin will be over in London.
I think she is a classy lady and very sincere. I believe her field reporting is incredible and the skills she exhibits reading from a teleprompter is amazing as well. However, people need to be honest and admit that as a free form host she is terrible. She is a horrible off the cuff interviewer who has embarrassed herself many times with flubs and mispoken words. One of the creepiest interviews I have ever seen was one in which she interviewed Bindy Irwin not too long afterher father passed away. Youtube it if you don't believe me. NBC did her a great disservice by promoting her in the first place but they did so out of loyalty. I wish her the best in the future and look forward to seeing her doing the one job she truly excels at, field reporting.
I know this is weird; it's not like I'm a Nielsen family, but I just refuse to watch The Today Show anymore. It make me uncomfortable to watch the insincerity of Matt L. and the rest–didn't appreciate the way they treated such a class act. Good Morning America here I come!!
Amen. I am just so sick of Matt Lauer. Whatever his inside connections that have kept him on instead of others, proves that "Power Hungry People" run that show, and I will now watch Good Morning America. Ann is a first rate reporter, and she has always shown kindness and compassion to all the people she has interviewed. So, just because Matt, Al Roker (whom I also do not like his offkey remarks-that just sound smart alec) and Natalie all acted so insensitive toward Ann – i along with other viewers will now not ve viewers at all.
I love Ann Curry. I would get rid of Matt and that Savannah is not the answer. She is about a foot taller than all of them and looks uncomfortable. Natalie and Ann are the best. They are I guess just to serious and believable. I think Ann Curry should host her own news show.
I agree.... Ann Curry should get her OWN show. That would serve NBC right. Why did they get rid of her? She's such a beautiful and classy lady. And a good journalist too.
Savannah is NOT the answer. She and Matt aren't going to make a good pair.
I have an idea........... get rid of MATT. He puts people on the spot and asks stupid questions.
Good luck Ann Curry.
Good Morning America just gained one more viewer. SHAME ON YOU TODAY SHOW AND NBC. Ann Curry is a phenomenal reporter and journalist!! She deserves better!!
I've always liked Ann Curry and she is a great reporter. What makes me mad is how they put the person that they just fired in a position where they have to act like they chose to leave the show. I don't watch the show I use to. I think Ann Curry should get an evening news position because she would make a great news anchor and get rid of some of these male news anchors. Also I think they need to get rid of Matt and Roker they are the reason the ratings suck.
After watching the Today Show for 25 years I have decided to let go... shame on you NBC!!! How could you ever decide to take Anne Curry out? Never again will I watch the show.... Shame on you!!!!!
I think you are all confused. I have watched the today show for about 15 years, and while Ann is not the worst (willard??), she was certainly not the best. I think she is a great reporter on serious topics; her interaction in Iran to get the hostages freed was quite good. But as a morning show host, she was pretty blah. And some of the questions that came out of her mouth...
I can't believe how passionate you all are about the Today show, I watch CBS which has ALWAYs been better than the Today show. Do you all not have jobs that you have all this time for the Today show? Ann Curry sucks! and they should get rid of Al Rocker which is why I left years ago. So I know the question is why did you click on the article? I honestly don't know but I am amazed and how passionate people are about this show..... maybe get a hobby?
I agree the CBS show is far more for the working force and it's theme is more adult oriented. You are also correct Al Roker needs to go and was a big part of why I quit watching this program , Ann did not posses the personality to be co-anchor.
I will miss Ann very much. She was a jewel and they will be very sorry for treating her so badly. I hope this turns out to be good for her and shows them all just how great she is. Shame on you Matt for backing those who wanted to terminate her. I like Savannah but she has no where near the experience Ann has. Ann.........Chin up! We love and respect you so much and will always look forward to your reportings......God Bless you.
I am very upset with what apparently Matt and the Today Show executives did to Ann Curry. She is such a terrific person. Even if it was not the perfect match with Matt this was no way to treat Ann. Shame on you all! I think we should all boycott the Today Show. Let them all see how it feels.
Have you ever began to watch the Today Show just to find out that Ann was off on vacation or reporting elsewhere, leading you to wait to watch the show until Ann would be back on the show in the next few days? That was how Ann affected my viewing. She was and still is a great journalist, but to gain the viewership of many folks out there, is a task itself; she grabbed my attention to her sincerity, class, intelligence- and like many fans dedicated to a musical artist through their years, so too am I too Ann Curry. Shame on NBC. You've expanded to 3 hours in 2000 and then 4 hours in 2007. Might as well as extend the Today Show to an 8 hour shift. Was the situation of their poor ratings not analyzed well? No more Today Show for me.
I think NBC should be ashamed of itself – business or not. Ann is not the blame for the fall in viewer attendance...the produces are. Today has too many guests and does not adequately allow sufficient time – often cutting people or segments off. It is distracting to say the least. If NBC wants to elminate anyone – why not Matt and/or Al – neither of whom "make the show." Regarding Hoda and Kathi Lee, total waste of time. I've switched to GMA and am really enjoying it. I hope GMA hires Ann. As to Ann's severance, I hope she received the $30M (as part of the original contract) and another $10M for being made the scapegoat. She signed a $10M a year contract for three years. She is owed the $30M. She held up her end of the bargain. NBC, do the same!
You said it exactly. Ann was (is) the best interviewer of the group and is not to blame for the lack of ratings. Besides what you attributed it to I would add all the younger music groups. I could take it on Fridays but everyday...not. I'd rather have news than entertainment.
shameful. I usually watch as I get ready for work. Won't be doing that anymore. And her replacement give me a break.
What happened to Ann Curry was so unfair. She was one of the best things about the show. If the truth be told, Matt Lauer is the problem! He is the one who should have been exiting! I will not be watching the Today show anymore!!
Give me a break with the tearful goodbye, she got paid well when she was the host of the show and I understand she was paid 10 million dollars to leave. It's a business, she should understand that better than anyone.
JT, she wasn't paid nearly as much as the rest of the crew and she got the raw end of the deal. She did a great job, don't care what you think or say, or anyone else for that matter. She was as good as the rest of them.
I've always had the hots for Ann Curry. A classy, poised, disciplined woman who could hold her own next to any supermodel. I'm glad she's still working, but the network was really clumsy and unprofessional in handling this.
Though I'm usually asleep at that our, the few times I've seen it, she was the high point. Bad move getting rid of her.
Did NOT appreciate how Ann was treated! She is a classy lady and did nothing to deserve how she was treated! So long Today Show!
I was recommended this web site by my cousin. I am no longer certain whether this submit is written by way of him as no one else recognize such designated approximately my problem. You are incredible! Thank you!
I have been watching Today for many, many years. Ann Curry was a class act. Intelligent, warm, articulate and I was thrilled when she got the co-anchor position. NBC, you treated her badly and I hope you pay for it. Her last show was truly heartbreaking to watch. Ann is a shining star and I wish her nothing but the best in the future. I won't be watching Today anymore. Al Roker - I'll miss you!
Ann, you are my favorite among so many others in the Today show. Big mistake NBC. It's not Ann's fault that you cannot outdo ABC or CBS. Ann, you will always be my favorite girl and I'm looking forward to your new and exciting assignment. I was going to say I will never watch the Today show anymore but what if you were on as a guest? I will surely not want to miss that. Bravo girl!!!!!!
I thought Ann grounded the Today Show. My feeling was that the show was losing viewers because it wasn't as relevant, especially during an election year. There are so many issues that affect everyone. Yes, I want to be cheered up when I get ready for work, but I also want some more "hard" news and it did seem the show had more puff pieces than GMA. And GMA has long-time journalists as anchors and guests to discuss and comment on the "hard news". I think Ann could have been that person but NBC wanted her to be another fluff anchor.
I think the work that Ann is going on to do will be much more exciting than the Today Show. She will always be a role model for Asian Americans, no matter what she is doing. I look forward to seeing her in her new career but I will really miss her in the morning and may even switch to GMA.
Ann you are why I started watching the Today Show again. I have always enjoyed watching you. You will truly be missed.
I too will not be watching the today show anymore. Not because of Ann leaving but because of how NBC did it and treated her. That pitiful way they made her say goodbye with the fake Matt Laur, I'm done back to GMA for me. I started watching when Ann came on and no more. I am not fond of Guthrie so not a choice for me.
Really sorry to see Ann go. The Today Show would be fine if Ann would have taken Katie place. Merridith started the slide in ratings and ann wasn't given enough time to recover them. Ann will be fine because she is such a great person and reporter. Too bad I can't say the same for THE TODAY SHOW. Signed: Previous loyal watcher
I basically was watching the Today Show because of Ann Curry. That was just horrible how they leaked it out and how unprofessional they "Are".
I will no longer watch the Today Show.
That's bad when you do away with a veteran journalist , just to hire today's type of celebrity reporter!!!!!!!!!!
I'm still mad about this. NBC has done a huge disservice to Ann Curry. It's like they kicked a kitten! She should have told them where to put their great new plan for her and take her considerable talent elsewhere. I'm totally disgusted with Mr. Lauer and his cronies in management, but now I don't have to look at him anymore. I'm watching CBS.
Ann was the only reason I was still watching the show after Katie left, careless for Meridith. Arrogant Matt has done nohting for me and "where in the world is Matt" is dull and NBC (No Body Cares).
"Today" is now "Yesterday" show for me after 20 years of watching it every morning. I did enjoy GMA and CBS this morning, and will be my morning show from now on.
To that idiot Steve Capus, Chie of NBC' news, what are stupid boss you are, continue bashing your own employee in the public even though you have already put her down onto the floor. This is the low of the lowest any human can do...
THE ONLY REASON I WATCHED THE TODAY SHOW WAS ANN CURRY. I WILL TELL YOU WHY THE SHOW IS GOING DOWN THE TUBES IS BECAUSE IT IS A COOKING SHOW NOW. NOT EVERYONE WANT'S TO WATCH COOKING I DON;T. NOW THAT THEY HAVE DONE ANN SO DIRTY, I WILL NOT WATCH IT ANYMORE. MATT THINKS HE IS GODS GIFT, YOU NEVER KNOW HE MIGHT BE NEXT, HOPE SO. HE IS ONLY ON THERE 20 OR 30 MINUTES, GO AWAY. THANK YOU
Ms. Curry just didn't have the tools needed to do this kind of show. She read the news pretty well, but "Today" requires asking the RIGHT and the TOUGH questions, not just having conversations about fluff and stuff. She just didn't have it to go.
I have watched the Today show for over 25 years loyally through all of their ups and downs. I thought they had finally put a good team together after katie Couric left. (They had reached the absolute bottom when they hired Meredith Viera), Ann Curry is a class act, a true journalist, instead of a just a"talking head". This is another case of 30 something incompetent TV Managers" making knee jerk decisions without truly having the experience and depth to understand their business. Sadly, I am done with Today and will be watching other networks to find a new morning show, or more likely just reading the wallstreet journal & NY times instead.
I was planning my trip to NY to see the Today show. But...Now will have to be ABC. Shame, Shame, Shame on NBC. You love to dump on people. But really Ann Curry. She was a sweetheart. She is the one who brought true feelings to the show. Matt has passed his prime. Let him go golfing with his buddy Bryant Gumbel. Who treated Katie Couric with nothing but contempt. NBC must be a good old boy club. WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Ann,
Thank you. The last "professional" journalist on the today show has left the couch. You were a pleasure to watch, an honest voice to hear, and most of all, a passionate & knowledable journalist. Hopefully in time, after all the shock, dissappoinment, & heartache ends, you will leave NBC. Many respects to your dedication to a job that has been diminished in many aspects by the execs that have turned the today show into everything but news. Your future is brighter & more respected outside of the today circle as you belong with the best journalists because you're one of them.
I can't wait to see you on your new path. Many regards & respect for being you.
Kelly – I couldn't have said it better myself so am re-posting your sentiment. After 20 years, I will no longer be watching the today show.

Good evening everyone. All are welcome to visit – thestarofkaduri.com
So sad. and what a stupid decision. and how clumsy can a network be? For the past year Ann Curry was carrying the show. I looked forward to her interviews. I trusted her and believed I was seeing who she was - likely because for so many years I felt I can come to know what to expect from her and respect it. She elevated the show beyond the drivel they throw in as fillers (I already KNOW how to cook, thanks, and Wow, a live kitten or ferret! on TV!!!really???) It will be GMA, then CNN for news. thank goodness they still know people want to watch the news in the morning.
We will miss her.
They made a mistake, Matt Lauer should have been let go. Lauer always wanted to be like the arrogant Brian Gumble and now he acts like him. NBC letting Anne go will not guarantee you being number one. I WILL NEVER WATCH THE SHOW AGAIN!!!!! Anne, I will miss you.
I will be joining the group no longer watching.
My question is – did Anne get replaced because of age?
One more reason, that I won't be watching NBC!
WOW...miss a couple of days of TV and THIS happens. I grew up on the TODAY show, it was on every morning (Hugh Downs and Barbara Walters) and it is always my go to in the AM. Ann Curry was a marvelously empathetic woman who's warmth and humanity always came through. She was my reason for watching. While it is going to be difficult to break a life long habit, the time has come to turn off the TV when the TODAY show starts. NBC, you blew it, but of course, you are such a highly rated network, I am sure you won't notice the drop in viewership.
FACT: WE SIT AND WE WATCH UNFAIR THINGS HAPPEN TO KIND PEOPLE....
NOT ME, I REFUSE TO WATCH THIS SHOW ANYMORE.
THIS IS HOW MY STRONG PROTEST...THERE WAS A TIME WHEN I TOO CLOSED
MY EYES SO I COULD NOT SEE THE SUFFERING OF OTHERS...UNFAIR TREATMENT, ETC.,
BUT NO MORE...YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST TREAT A LOYAL PERSON LIKE A PIECE OF
DIRT AND EXPECT MILLIONS TO SUPPORT YOU ...MAYBE IN THE PASS BUT THIS IS 2012
WHAT YOU DO TO MY SISTER AND BROTHER YOU WOULD DO TO ME....THIS IS WHAT
LOVE OF NEIGHBOR MEANS....
Take it easy, you're talking about fluff morning reading teleprompter stuff. Save the passion for your family, neighbors and co-workers.
When Ann Curry replaced Meredith Viera, I told my wife she would never make it as a co-anchor. I didn't she the chemistry between Curry and Lauer that was there with Viera. The decision to make Savannah Guthrie the new co-anchor will, I believe, result in a further reduction in viewers. Guthrie is a very intelligent woman but also lacks the personality to offset the rather dull Matt Lauer. In other words they're too much alike. I thought Jay Leno was joking about the N.B.C. executives not knowing what their doing now i believe him, they don't. They should have brought in someone from the outside to replace Curry or better yet Matt Lauer.
Big Mistake NBC...........Ann is great........I believe the content of the show has gone down, not Ann.
I love Ann Curry. She's a pro! I hope all the stars that love her kind classy interviews will give their interviews only to Ann Curry.
Like so many others I will miss Ann on the today show format; I do work every day–but I got to watch while getting ready in AM and on days off–Ann was a true journalist and role model for millions of women and girls. in our culture, it is not unusual to feel" attached "to persons who become a familiar presence on TV–Ann was always an intelligent representative of my point of view during her interviews. I cannot Identify with Matt–who is superficial and long past his expiration date–he just takes the money and runs, no ethics–no charitable involvement no giving back! Savannah Guthrie is a lawyer? Where– From correspondence school?? She presents herself like a" stick" with an airhead–nobody's idea of a role model. Guess i'll be checking out other stations also–NBC is behind the times of intelligent viewers.
I stopped watching Today this year because of Matt Lauer. Think the Today show got this one wrong. Good luck to her!!
I agree. I ill not watch anymore, either. Too many reminders of what happened to Jane Pauly and Deborah Norville.
I agree.... Ann is a classy lady with a huge heart! She will be missed, and I too will be changing the channel now. Matt seems to have gotten "too big for his britches" and appears to have quite an ego. I just can't believe the way this was handled, or the lack thereof, and yet they keep the "gab" segment going for the last hr everyday... seriously?!?!?! I've been growing more and more irritated with their segments and how they are always rushing through them, well, this has made my decision for me! NBC needs to get their priorities in order! Keep your chin up, Ann, better things are in store for you ~ Thank you for all the lives you have touched over the years!
Well said!
I am sorry to see Ann go. I think it is a big big mistake. Maybe NBC should change out Matt since he seems to be the only constant . The women keep getting changed out and ratings still don't go up. Obviously nothing can make him look good enough in his existing role. NBC just keep getting rid of the wrong people. I wish Ann the best and hopefully I will catch her segments. I will spend my morning getting ready for work watching Good Morning America.
I am wondering who is really responsible for this decision?? Ann is the best and what a mistake they are making.
So Ann Curry is out because she doesn't have the charisma of Katie, Meredith, or Sarah Palin (Hello Idiots!) but Savannah whatshername does? I watched today to see what she was about but will be watching GMA or CBS with Charlie Rose from now on. She was incrediblly bland and don't see that she would be a good interviewer. Please let us have the improved ratings as soon as possible! I'm betting they will be lower than ever. Bad decision NBC.
I guess to each is own but, I am not a fan of Savannah - she's too bubbly and sort of annoying. However, I think they needed to make a change - as it was awkward between Matt and Ann. Matt is better with interviews - but, I do appreciate Ann and how professional she has been through out the years. It's sad but, it always boils down to ratings...
Sorry to see Ann go. I am really shocked that she will be leaving. What is NBC doing? Does anyone else think Matt is gone a lot...seems whenever I tune in he is not there. A great contract he has! And Ann gets demoted. Also, someone earlier commented on Kathy Lee. I do enjoy her and she can be very funny. It's Hoda that I am not fond of. She's not funny, and I always get the feeling a cat fight is simmering just under the surface between those two. I'm guessing a male would be a better counterpart for Kathy. She had better rapport with Regis. Oh, and Al Roker MUST STAY.
Like so many others, I have been a fan of Ann Curry for many years. I have enjoyed her not only as a serious journalist, but as an exceptionally open and easy to relate to television personality! She has touched my heart with her beautiful and personal stories about everything from her own family (remember the story of her mother and father?....how beautiful) to her coverage of SERIOUS international issues...the Iran hikers (Ahmadinejad chose HER to reveal that they would soon be released....why? because she is a serious journalist that people LISTEN TO!) and as she mentioned in her pathetically self serving (of NBC) farewell, the fact that she got the freakin Dalai Lama to do a live interview....umm HELLO NBC!!!??? Good for you Ann for pointing that out! Your farewell really solidified your stance as a true CLASS ACT! You brought a serious face to an increasingly ridiculous morning talk show platform that appears to be spending more time focussed on what they will be dressing Matt and Al in come Halloween than relating to the people who buy the products advertised on Today every morning! Seriously, aside from the absurd amount of money NBC has recently handed over to Matt, I wonder what the viewers would think of the cash spent on these petty frivolities while the average viewer struggles to make ends meet! I for one will never again watch TODAY. Ann was "my girl"!! And I say that not in a condescending way, but that after all of these years of "getting to know her", she was like one of my closest girlfriends! I could relate to her on a daily basis as well as feel engaged and worry about her when she was out in the field doing what no other member of "that show" was doing....REAL JOURNALISM!! I am offended by NBC's handling of this entire affair, but not surprised. This may be the best thing to happen to Ann Curry....she can get back to working with her true peers and continuing to make a difference. Leave the soft ball stories to Matt who, after all of these years and so many co-anchors has proved once and for all that his only loyalty is to himself. What a sad and lonely end.
I think Ann Curry was the most professional of the group. Matt Lauer has become a bully. I will never watch The today Show ever again. Ann hardly was off the couch and Savannah Guthrie was on replacing her. You have no class. Don't blame Ann for you ratings. It's things like this that is the reason your network is failing.
It is really Matt that is causing ratings to go down! They should have made Ann anchor and boot Matt out. I bet ratings
would really go up then. Why does Matt have so much clout. He is as arrogant as can be and not very well liked except
he does really like himself. (lol)
The dirty politics of NBC behind the scene comes across on the screen! Matt Lauer needs to go. He's doing nothing for the show and is bad news for anyone who try to be honest and fresh. Matt needs to go not Ann. NBC is losing it. Outrage at how Ann Curry was mistreated. It's corporate politics at it's worst.
I agree.....this is a promotion for Ann Curry. She is a fabulous professional journalist. I am looking forward to seeing her in her new role. When I think of true journalists, I think of Diane Sawyer and Ann Curry. It is easy to schmooze and be funny. If chemistry is what NBC was looking for, why not get Kathie Lee Gifford or Kelly Rippa!! Ann, you are loved.
I'm not big on morning shows but I saw a familiar face of a very pleasant individual, that was Ann Curry. I always enjoyed the show. Its a shock that Ann will not be on, I don't understand why. But whoever is responsible for her dismissal, well, stupid is as stupid does.
Why wasn't it considered that Matt should leave the show if the ratings were sinking?I,too,am going to watch anything but NBC in the morning......what they did to Ann Curry was humiliating.
I once loved Today, Now I hate them...they treated Ann like dirt.....I'm done with NBC dirtbags
the only reason ii watched was ann curry....you blew it, nbc....lost another viewer s of today....
Hello everyone. Each of you is welcome to visit ... thestarofkaduri.com
I am outraged at how NBC made Ann Curry the scapegoat for The Today Show's woes. Ann is a journalist par excellence whom I greatly respect. She was the reason I continued to watch the show after Meredith Viera's departure.
As of TODAY, I have stopped watching the show.
Good Morning America!!!
See ya NBC, I'm out!
I am over MSNBC, too, because their decisions. Ann was the only reason I watched the Today show. I can't stand Matt. Too snobish and no emotion or empathy.
Ann, good luck, Darling. You are better than them. Go and do great things!
I agree. Ann Curry was the only reason I still watched (past tense) The Today Show. No more.
I don't watch NBS morning news sinse Kathy Courek left the show. She was the brain and soul.Anna didn't make mi happy. So,good bay& good luck
Ann you will be deeply missed but my entire family. My husband loved to tape the Today show and watch it with my family iin the evening. You brought so my class and talent to the show. It broke our hearts the way the handled your departure. I will probably watch Good Morning America because they are getting their act together! Matt Lauer was great to watch when he was not in love with himself!!!!! If they got rid of him it would be a great move. Best wishes Ann 🙂
So sorry to see her go..must say my days of watching NBC is done if they replace her with Savannah!
Well, it looks like she is. So long NBC!
Why can't NBC ever orchestrate a graceful personnel change? First they botched Conan losing the Tonight Show, now they publicly evicted Ann Curry from the Today Show studio. If it is true that Matt Lauer was behind this, he will become the most hated man in America.
Ann didn't step down. She was pushed. She was not the problem and they will regret this. Their ratings are going to really tank now. Every single story they run about this over at msnbc has TONS of negative comments about firing Ann and only a few positives. Shades of Deborah Norville.
II've ready every comment posted to date. Ann Curry may not have been the bubbliest of anchors, but she did bring a classy and genuine wish to do her best. She did that. NBC should be flogged for their incredible insensitivity in the way they handled Ann's exit. How pathetic. There is a reason I selsom watch anything on NBC – and I think this became crystallized with the way Ann left. Did she not get the ball over the finish line? I would say that she did – in her own way. Shame the NBC execs had a brain fart.
Ann's replacement is a baracuda justlike the vitriolic Nacy on the other station. NBC will come to regret this move
I liked Ann. I say "liked" because she didn't seem to have that familiarity with Matt that Meridith Vierra had. That was half the problem. Meridith was a hell of an act to follow. But given the package Ann was given says a lot. Maybe she didn't fit in with Matt, but the powers that be recognize a hard news reporter when they see one. Given free reign and an open budget like Ann got, I'd say she was "kicked upstairs."
I love Ann, its sad to see her leave, what they should do is get rid of Kathy Lee Gifford, WTH were they thinking hiring her?? Another one they need to get rid of, Jenna Wolf, can't stand her.
NBC I hope you know what your doing???
B@st@rds!
ABC must be so happy with NBC's stupid mistake giving Ann her walking papers. I know I'm not watching anymore and sent a email to the Today show saying as much. Ann is one terrific journalist and I enjoyed her interview style. Much luck and good wishes and I suggest you do not associate with Matt anymore. He does not respect you at all.
The only reason GMA had such high ratings is that Robin was going through a health crisis and got over that then it has happened again. People watch not just for the news but because you listen in the morning as if you are in the conversation with friends without having to say anything just continue doing what you are doing to get ready for the day. It's a relationship without effort, without critics, with your guard down, and acceptance, what better friendship is there? 🙂 You become part of the family. I myself never watched the Today show faithfully until Ann, I was able to switch at whim. NOW I will not watch. I dont care for matt. So yes people do take it personal when your "friend" is treated so badly.
I can’t say I was ever an Ann Curry fan but nationally exposing a weak point in her life like this is terrible. I’m excited for all this to blow over so we can all get back to just watching the news. It’s funny how we can all develop such a strong relationship with these people. I know since I’ve started my job at Dish I have certainly fallen into a morning routine that involves my newscasters. I am more of a Good Morning America fan myself, which spurs some controversy in my household since my husband loves Today. Luckily, our Hopper whole home DVR allows us record and watch up to three things so he can watch NBC while I’m upstairs watching ABC. Even though I’m not the biggest Today show supporter, I still wish Ann the best of luck and I’m sure she will bounce back just fine.
Why did you say "I'm sorry", Ann? Why did you think you didn't cross the finish line? You did. In the normal workplace, your involuntary departure is considered Wrongful Termination! It seems the only reason you were ousted by the network, wasn't On-Air style or chemistry, it appears that you just weren't white enough, now seeing Savannah next to Matt. It would appear then, the visual was the network's reason, as you did your job perfectly! And I loved watching you on the show, as did we all! Maybe – if you bleached your skin, and died your hair, they would have kept you on. It would seem to suggest. Shame on them! And any workplace who does that to a person, and makes them cry on their job because they booted them out – without sound reason or justified cause – should be sued!
I really don't want to agree with the race factor, but the history of anchors at NBC shows that they never really have colored anchors. Forget about Al, he is a cute weather man who is not the main host. The closest thing is Hoda and Katie Lee who are Latinas. While I agree Ann Curry didnt have chemistry with Matt Lauer, didn't NBC already knew while Ann and Matt have been working together for 14 years? NBC better have paid Ann Curry a lot of money and Matt Lauer should work his magic soon.
CBS did the same thing about 2 yrs ago. They pushed out the entire morning crew, including Harry Smith, Dave Price and Maggie Rodriguez. They replaced them all with the group that does Saturday's news. I was livid. I believe too that it is not the co-anchors, it's the programming and the top execs. I watch the Weather Channel now, they do a news segment and few special interest bits that are actually news worthy. I don't understand why this mentality that to make change you need to give the boot to the people the viewers are tuning in to see. Matt Lauer is a sell out hack. Good Luck Ann, you are one class act!
You know what NBC stands for... I'm sure you can fill the blanks....
Nothing But Cr@p
No more TODAY show for me. That treatment is so... yesterday. Ann, you can do better.
I liked Ann a lot as well. I think her new position well serve her well though. She if a competent journalist.
Just flipped it on this morning, Savannah is in the Co-anchor position. Think she will be great there.
And I'm a man, so I have to say.....My God she is beautiful. On topic, she is smart, qualified as a lawyer, and has a likeable personality with a better sense of humor then Ann.
Good luck Ann..... You may look back on this as a positive, leaving a fluffy morning show, and returning to true news.
I loved Ann Curry on the Today Show and sad that she has gone. She was the caring one, and brought the most humanistic touch to the show. Unfortunately, the Today Show programming over the years is losing its appeal with the long time viewers, like me, and instead of fixing the programming, they "fix" the cast. Get a clue NBC, it's not the people, it's the programming. I don't like Dateline, yet you force me to watch it in the 2nd segment (which I don't). The best slot is 8:00-8:30. Too much politics in the first segment, too much uninteresting fill in the 9-10 slot. Savannah might be sweet, but she has no personality. No wonder Matt Lauer prefers her.
The Today Show has become a joke. They bring guests on then talk fast and cut them off. Then they go sit on the couch and talk about inane dribble. Executive management is the problem-not the co-host.
I was in attendance when Ann Curry delivered one of the keynote speeches at the 2005 Girl Scout Convention in Atlanta, GA. There were 15,000 girls and women at this convention, and Ann impressed us all with her finesse and her message that truly, girls CAN do anything. She was very gracious, and those of us who got a chance to speak with her and take photos left with the sense that she was really a very warm and caring person. I hope that she goes on to bigger and better things, and that she's happy with whatever life can throw at her. Thank you for all of your hard work, Ann. Continue to inspire girls and women the world over.
Doesn't matter who replaces Ann – I've already changed the channel and vow never to go back to NBC.
They pushed out Ann and they pushed out our family too.
A reflection of the time – loyalty and doing a great job is no longer valued in America. NBC is already producing crap TV in the evenings. Surprised they didn't pick Sarah Palin ... remember her co-hosting stunt? Wonder why no Executive heads rolled over that decision.
In both cases, Matt could have taken a stand and instead rolled over and took it. Done with them all.
Love you Ann – you are a class act all the way and this out pouring of love for you tells me your world just opened up a little wider ... may the day come when real news makes a come back and you're the leading lady.
"A reflection of the time – loyalty and doing a great job is no longer valued in America" - well said. I have watched the Today Show for many years and am appalled at the way NBC has treated a longstanding employee who was a terrific news reporter. I was a bit surprised when they moved her to cohost as I thought news was her strength. She had subbed as cohost so often so the execs surely knew what to expect - a reporter; not a giggly, flirty cohost a la Katie or Meredith. I felt sooo bad for her today - clearly she gave the job her heart and soul. All the best to you, Ms. Curry. I have a lot of respect for you - and zero for your network. I'll be flipping back and forth between ABC and CBS to find a morning show who suits me best. I will miss watching Ann Curry; and I'll miss Al Roker as well. Buh-bye, Today Show.
It is SOOOOOO REFRESHING to see how many people show their SUPPORT for what's right.
Screw NBC- by-by! America isn't built on the next best thing that you have to look forward to replacing you
Unless we allow it to be. For Ann's sake, I hope her next best thing is to be picked up by a station with more
Quality!!!!!
Ann, You have nothing to be sorry for! You were great! You are a classy newswoman and that is what counts. Keep up the great work you do. Why NBC thinks Matt Lauer is so great is beyond me! I do like Savannah Guthrie but I will be switching to GMA effectively immediately!
I'm with you.....I've watched the TODAY Show for years. I'm done. Ann is my Oregon girl, I'm a Beaver, she's a Duck and still the best. Matt, Al, love you but headed to ABC. You did her cold.
Ann Curry was the only reason to watch the Today Show. She was the obvious replacement for Katie Couric, and instead they went with an awful choice in Vieira.
Ann was the last bastion of journalism in an otherwise entertainment program guised as news morning lineup across the networks.
Will be watching Good Morning America after this...Ann deserved to be treated better than this...Meridith Viera went out with a party and NBC acts like Ann is responsible for their lowering ratings...she deserved better that this heartbreaking exit and NBC is tacky and hurtful.
Keep Ann. Fire Kathy Lee Gifford. (The Martin Short gaffe was horrble.)
Ann Curry does not need to be sorry. She already has carried the ball over the finish line thousands of times more than most national journalists in the United States. Frankly, she is one of the very best reporters in the world, and she has covered wars and civil conflicts all over the planet. Ann also brings a unique set of skills, experience, compassion, tenacity, and professionalism to every news story that she covers. She brings clarity, insight, and credibility to every news story that she reports. Any news organization would be blessed to have her expertise on board. Keep your chin up, Ann, and keep doing what you've always done so well. You are the very best!
I remember when Jane Pauley was removed from her position which was due to the fact she was not young enough and did not fit the profile of the network. Wonder who will be her replacement? Ann Curry brought class to the program and I will no longer check in with this morning News show.......
Well it seems that NBC really doesn't have their finger on the pulse of the viewing public. Ann Curry was the only reason to watch the Today Show. You want to beat Good Morning America? I think it backfired. I guess I am a new GMA viewer. Ann represented her audience. She was kind, but not afraid to ask the same tough questions we would. She saw things as a wife, a mother, and an informed, participating American. That's how I want my news. I don't want it from some ratings hungry, disconnected from middle-America, pompous bureaucrat. Good Luck Matt.
The people who want the news is not NBCs target audience anymore. They get more ratings with having the format like TMZ. To bad they (NBC) want to trade in news for fluff. Oh well time to move to GMA.
All you people making comments here act like this is so personal.
Reality is NONE of you are watching this joke of a show and that is why the ratings are so low and Ann Curry lost her job....
NBC can do what they want.....they are paying the bills.....Ann Curry was making MILLIONS every year on her contract along with the other blow hards on the show......and the ratings are at an all time low
I think they need a whole new set of fresh faces and get rid of all of them......Time to change it up NBC!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another example of a gentle, caring style of leadership that just does not fit in the cuthroat political anchor game. This is the reason I never followed through with my journalism career...I was told that I was too nice of a person to do the job. Ann, this will always be painful for you.... however in the process, you will be much happier in a job that everyone will respect you for.
It's not hard for me to say that Ann Curry really has no place in live television, and I've sent several emails to CNN over the years to express it. Katie Couric has the ability to "think on her feet" in an interview–not Ann. Ann simply deson't have the skills. She routinely fumbled through interviews, mostly the live ones.
Am I an Ann "hater?" Definitely not. She's has good qualities. It's just that she rose to the level of her incompetence. I think she can do well on well-edited scripted pieces and come across much more credible. But I'm so glad that CNN has realized that, just because someone wants a particular job, that doesn't mean they're necessarily good at it...
Katie is in my opinion one of the WORST tv personalities on air ! I avoid her like the plague , she is sooooo irritating !!!
You wrote many emails to CNN huh, seeing as how she works for NBC I don't think they care.
You sent mail to CNN about Ann? Wrong place!
Ann Curry is the best. I will not watch the show any longer.
Ann brought a professional stance to the show, her smile was never ending. Frank, I don't see why Lauer is kept..he is arrogant, lazy and hard to understand with his mumbling way. Lauer should have been replaced years ago....Ann's youthful and lively style will be missed...Good luck Ann your professionalism will outlast this slap I'm the face. Waiting for Lauers farewell speech...he has NO HEART!
Bad move Today show, bad move. Ann Curry brought energy, class, empathy, excellent journalism techniques and experience to the table. Ann we loved your presence and will miss you dearly. Today show you are history in my book. I will no longer watch. Good luck with those ratings now.
The only reason I watched the show was because of Ann. Ann – you are a class act all the way. I'm going to go back to Good Morning America now that Ann is gone.
It's the programming stupid! I've watched the Today show for 35 years. Now that Ann's gone, I'll finally be able to switch to Good Morning America.
I agree with you 100%. I enjoyed her the most out of all of them. She had such a sincere compassion disposition thats rarely seen at least on NBC. I'd be happy if she left them all together. They're unworthy.
I agree with you 100%. I enjoyed her the most out of all of them. She had such a sincere, compassionate disposition that made their show worth watching. The rest was just ok and dont get me started with Matt. What a Jerk! Thx Mac...
It is truly a shame that NBC did such a poor job with Ann's exit. She really did not deserve it. She is an amazing journalist and if this was not the best position for her she still deserves a lot of respect for the work she does, It would have been a much better choice to get rid of Hoda and Kathie Lee. I quite frankly find them very annoying.
Ann, we love you!
You are the best and NBC failed you!
(Are they all drinking too early over there?)
Love Hoda but still cannot stand Kathy Lee. Who's idea was it for them to be "drinking on the job"???? NBC needs taste testers in the morning hours?????? I only watch the show to see Hoda – the drinking part sure brings back very bad memories for me Kathy Lee made an ass out of herself (again) – laughing at the story of the man who was threatened due to farting. I'm sooooo glad the man doing the threatening (with a gun) was arrested.
I agree – Hoda and Cathy Lee's show does not measure up. Cathy Lee is often rude to guests and that isn't funny. Ann is classy, professional, and has empathy for her interviews and guests. She has never, ever been rude.
I agree with so many of the comments. NBC and the Today show just lost my viewership BECAUSE of the way Ann Curry has been treated. Corporate greed and "numbers, numbers, numbers." Ann was used as a scapegoat and that is so unfair and as far as I'm concerned, immoral and unethical. The Today show was the first show I turned on at 7a.m., PST, and now, I will no longer tune in. NBC, you really messed up and I hope you lose millions of viewers.
I completely agree – this was very cruel and unfair as well as embarrassing for Ann Curey. I'm definitely one viewer NBC has lost. I also only watch the news due to Chuck and Bernie. This has been a "click" for many, many years. They need to get rid of the one newscaster who I originally thought was pregnant when she joined but soon realized she is way, way overweight and looks terrible on camera – the other – "bug eye", no personality sportscaster who fills in for Bernie. She looks like a football player. I switch channels when these two are on.
Long time Today Show watcher but have been switching to other early morning shows since the Today Show has move away from being more of a news program to an entertainment program. All the self-promotion of the network's "sister station" TV shows have found me switching channels more frequently. CBS has more news on its new show with Charlie Rose. I like the on air staff of the Today Show...but the material they've been given to work with has been the problem for me. One more segment with the Khardashians or one of the Housewives of Wherever and I find myself switching channels. Ann was good with hard nes and always willing to step up to a challenge. I think the problem's bigger than Ann...it's with the decision-makers on the stories.
Can't believe there are so many comments on this story. Why does anyone other than Ms. Curry and her family care about this issue? Are our lives really so empty that we have a stake in who hosts a TV show? I'm 45 and I've NEVER watched this show for more than a few minutes. Who has time? What do the rest of you do to be able to watch 4 hours of television on a work-day morning? And if you HAVE that kind of time, why are you wasting it watching tv?
If it's a waste of time, why even comment?
You're one to talk! Seems you have enough tme on your hands to read a blog and post you nit-wit! Go away!
Ann is totally the scapegoat here, and what a lousy way to treat her. Ann has twice posed for photos with my two kids, six years ago and just last month. It was very cool seeing them grow and Ann being the same. Matt was nowhere to be seen. He's arrogant and a phony. There are plenty of other morning news shows. I'm done with The Today Show after their mistreatment of Ann, and I hope their decline continues. They did the same thing to Deborah Norville years ago.
Sure hope NBC reviews all these comments and uses the marketing tool of LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS if they really want the ratings to go up. I watch the TODAY show most mornings for news and like when Al Roker says things that sometimes gives me a belly laugh but recently he doesn't appear to have that spunk he use to–is he unhappy too? Based on the comments, appears NBC didn't consider surveying the CUSTOMER before they made the decision to take Ann off the couch. By the way, when the Kathie Lee and Hoda segment comes on off goes the TV.
They had fun, 15 yrs is a long time! She is going to live her life before the whole house goes down as Jim Morrison would say.
I started watching the today show after Ann became a main anchor. I am sad to see her go and will not watch the show in the future due to the unfair way she was handled. We have forgotten that ratings are the most important part of the news, how the new is delivered and how professionally it is done is. Ann was the only one on that show that knew how to be a professional reporter she stepped off the couch and took risks and got results, it is for sure Matt would not want to mess his hair up . Ann you rock and I will look forward to seeing your reporting but will not mess with the today barbie ken hour anymore.
I have loved Ann Curry for as long as she has been on that show- I can't believe they are dumping her....disgusting. I am sorry but I stopped watching because Meredith Viera bored me to TEARS!!! Best of luck to you Ann, and don't worry about these ridiculous executive PIGS you have the power of the people behind you!!!
This was the most outragous way for Ann to leave Today. I support her leaving Today as co-anchor, but this exit was beyond very tacky! Shame NBC. This will cost you viewers ... guaranteed!
I agree with K D. I loved when they gave Ann the co-anchor spot because I just loved her reporting and felt she was the most geniune person on the air, along with Meredith who was leaving. Smart, classy and compasionate but perhaps just not the best fit as a co-anchor. She isn't a fluff person and that is definately a position that requires some fluff. Still, NBC regardless of how much you are paying her or what other opportunites you are offering her you should be ashamed of how you handled her departure. Desipte all the rumours you let leak she still handled this week grace. I'm with the rest you lost me as a viewer, not because you replaced Ann but the horrible, classless tabloid way you did it!
Stopped watching Today Show long ago. How can anyone sit through all those commercials? The Weekend Today is worse, 2 minutes of show, 5 minutes commercials....YUK!!
Now watch GMA and Sunday Early Show CBS
The news business is a tough business, and the bottom line is always the determining factor. I've always like Ann Curry. Perhaps the co-hosting seat was not her forte, but the network could have given her more than one year to prove herself. I hope she knows and holds on to the fact that she has many supporters wishing her only the best. She's a class act.
Ann was genuinely broken hearted this morning. No one says that NBC did not have the right to make a change but let me tell you....to humiliate this amazing journalist by this sloppy goodbye this morning will result in The Today Show being in last place. She was made the fall guy. After many years of being a Today show devotee, I am looking for other options. Ann Curry was the best and you let her go. Shame on you for your greed!!!!!
I wholeheartedly agree with you about how they humiliated her! And for HER to apologize! Ann, if you are reading any of these, you have NO NEED to apologize to us. We love you!
If NBC is looking for a reason as to why their ratings are dropping, this morning is a perfect example. You give a co-anchor who has been with the show 15 years a 5 minute send off?!! Really! Talk about disrespectful! I started watching GMA several months ago and will continue to from now on. There will be many others who will no longer watch TODAY because of the way Ann Curry was booted out! Good luck to you Ann with your future endeavors! You are truly a CLASS ACT!!! I would love to see you at GMA!
I love Ann Curry, but quit watching when Katie Curric left the show. Quite frankly, CBS with Charlie Rose is the best at reporting the news. The early morning show is also far better at reporting the news. NBC is always my last choice. ABC is okay, but nothing is better than CBS. Yea Charlie, a real class act!
I gave up on the Today Show when NBC treated Jane Pauly like dirt. Nothing new for them the way they treated Ann Curry.
Ann Curry and Hoda are/were the best thing the Today Show has going for it. I can only wonder, "They let Ann, the professional journalist go and have kept Kathi Lee Gifford?" (the self-serving hack, bore and buffoon). Gifford must be doing some NBC bigwig. Whatev...I hope their ratings dive even more then they have.
Love you Ann!!! The show wouldn't be the same without you. Just get a different part. Love you girlfriend!! You are such class, b rains and grace.
I'm thinking Matt & Al are a bit tired... they both need to retire! Maybe they'll leave after the London games!
Ann Curry is why I watched the Today show, she should leave NBC entirely! screw them!! I will be watching Good Morning America! Who cares if she didn't have chemiistry with Matt Lauer, I'm watching for the news stories, not to watch somebody get smitten with Lauer!
If they replace her with some young, blue-eyed blond, I'm gonna puke. Ann Curry was doing a wonderful job. So what if there were a few kinks that needed to be ironed out...they didn't even give her a chance to do so. Shame on you NBC! But what do we expect from the channel that got rid of Conan O'Brien so Jay Leno could come on 1/2 an hour earlier and nobody watched the show anymore? The person who made the decision to let Ann Curry go is a complete idiot in my book.
If the rumors are true, the person that made that decision was Matt Lauer
Good Luck Ann I enjoyed watching you as you interviewed people showed compassion for people and you cared. You will be missed, you touch a lot of people.Today show won't be the same.God Bless You
Ann Curry showed grace under pressure, acted like a lady and professional. Shame on NBC! Won't be watching NBC news programming at all....
Ann is the fall gal for a show that has gone from a respectable news program to People Magazine. Intelligent people who want to hear about important things in the world can no longer depend on the Today Show to tell them about it. I used to tune in every morning. Now I check in for the first 5 minutes to see what's happening and switch to MSNBC. I'm in my 50's and understand I'm no longer part of the consuming demographic that is Today's target audience so I've had to say good bye to a show which was part of my routine since I was a kid. Can't wait to see the next "dish" they put on the couch with Matt.
Ann Curry is one class act...something not seen in the NBC executives who handled this exit so poorly...think Jay/Conan. Didn't they learn anything? She was humilated and the insincere comments from her couch mates was horrific. I wish her the best...wish she could have left and taken the rest of her contract money with her! I'm off to GMA...they seem to be concerned about their staff and viewers!
Goodbye TODAY....Hello GOOD MORNING AMERICA!
It's a TV morning show. Big deal. People are acting as though they shot Kennedy all over again.
Hi to Good Morning America. Matt Lauer should be the one to go. Everyone knows about his balding,
arrogant ass is hard to get along with.
It's a very big deal for Ann who is being thrown under the bus quite publicly. The declining ratings for the Today Show had very little, if nothing to do with her.
Like so many others, I will not be watching the Today Show any longer. Anne Curry brought a sense of warmth and respect to everyone she spoke with in her work. Shame on NBC for not finding a way to let her leave in a more positive fashion. I wish Anne the best of luck in her new endeavors; She will be fabulous !
I will miss Ann. She is such a classy lady. As far as Matt...well...it wouldn't hurt if he sat up a little straighter during interviews instead of slouching over so much he looks like a question mark. Quit asking people that have just gone through tragedy how they feel. I'm ready for one to say"Well, Matt, I feel like my world has just been demolished, and how's your day?" Someone needs to teach him class! Have a little dignity. Oh, that's right, you don't know what that is! Matt should be ashamed of himself for what has happened. Just think, he signed his new contract and a few weeks later Ann is gone. We aren't stupid!
Spot on Jules.
Matt is a dick.
OMG Jules I didn't put that together until you wrote it. Seriously! You all gave Matt a raise, because he couldn't be to blame (riiiight), and then dump on Ann. Oh I am even more disgusted.
Don't get me started as to who should have been canned; let's see.. oh yeah the um "professionals", the Kathy. HOda and Matt..
In Oregon we love Ann and hope to see more of her. We are so proud to count her as one of us. love
Way to go NBC!
Did you not learn anything from the Jay Leno / Conan O'Brien mess??
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Good luck Ann – you're 100% 1st class. GMA here I come!!
Just another woman who, when she reaches a certain age, is kicked to the curb regardless of her ability for a cutesy bimbo.
Guess I won't be watching the Today Show any more ... Don;t like Matt, and Al, and the 3rd/4th hours drunk Kathy Lee is too much for my nerves to handle.
This is just so sad and so wrong. Ann Curry is why I watch the Today Show. Such a classy example of a woman. I will miss her terribly.
The truth is Matt is the weak link. He lacks compassion and is probably the most overpaid person on television today. Ann has heart and class. What ever NBC paid Matt, it didn't buy him those 2 things.
yup!
I could not agree more Kathy. I emailed NBC that if they pushed Ann Curry out – I'm heading to GMA and that is where
I will be starting tomorrow!
I'm very sorry to see Ann go after all these years - she did a wonderful job in all she undertook and exemplified the human side of the Today Show team. I was a little apprehensive for her when she got the plum role of co-anchor, but she stepped up to the plate and hit the ground running. I will miss seeing her on a daily basis, but look forward to her special reports wherever they may take her and wish her nothing but the best. Goodbye and good luck, Ann!
boohooo....she got millions to leave and millions more for another great assignment at the same network.....am I supposed to feel sorry for her?
Mo one said you have to feel sorry for her, clearly she is more successful than you will ever be.
Thank you Gil! She is not getting dumped by NBC, but moved to a position she's better suited for and for GREAT money. She might be the nicest woman on the planet but her interviews and anytime she went off script (I.e. small talk ) were extremely uncomfortable and often down right cringeworthy!
Ann Curry is an incredibly talented and distinctive JOURNALIST. I find myself thinking she's been wasted on this show. I converted to the Today show many years ago from GMA, but I believe it's time to check out Robin and George after NBC does something this misguided.
Ann Curry on the same program as Hoda and Kathy Lee? What a waste! She has so much more to offer viewers. I look forward to the wonderful work she has ahead of her. I think the decision to leave Today was a good one for Ann; however, NBC acted egregiously in the way the story was handled, hanging her out to dry in the media for a week without coming to her aid/defense. Poorly done, Steve Capus et al. I expected more of NBC.
Well said. I totally agree.
I totally agree. I think it was pathetic, tacky, disgraceful how they basically shoved Ann out after 15 years on the Show.
Only 5 minutes to say goodbye - give me a break! And the speeches that were given by Matt et al made me want to throw up. Matt through his body language always showed his disdain and lack of support for Ann. As a long time Today Show watcher I am officially off the show. On to GMA I go. I hope masses of people leave Today after NBC behaved so badly, they deserve it! Good luck to you Ann, you deserve better!
Love Ann...very compassionate and yet a consummate professional; if she goes we go. Their are few that possess her unique ability to fit into any situation: from co-host of the Today Show, to anchoring the Nightly News, and yes, sorry to tell you Brian, if given the choice between you or Ann, in black she has you beat by a mile and Lester beat by two. I have been watching the Today Show for over twenty five years and I've have had to endure Meredith Vieira, awkward interviews with a woman who got her face bitten off by a chimp, the Duggar family, Prince William, the Olympics, a seeming obsession with gas prices, people who lose limbs and a cornucopia of other nonesense and non-newsworthy human interest stories. Meanwhile, one of the most important issues facing every man, woman and child goes uncovered. If anyone is wondering why viewership is waning, stop one on the bus tour might be the stories being covered. As for you, Ann, I sincerely hope your next employer values you and gives you the respect you've earned and deserve, as opposed to throwing you under the bus.
How tacti that they broke to commerical and then she was gone when the show returned. Who ever made this really bad decision, you have a lot of bad karma coming your way.. you should have at least had her finish out the show...then say good-bye at the end.
Ann Curry was the best part about Today Show, and they, the network, make a bit mistake getting "rid"of her. Savannah Guthrie doesn't come close to the talent of Ann Curry!!!I hope the "new"today show is a big flop, and watch out, it will be!!!!
new

I'm going to miss Ann. I agree the Palin business was a real sham and I suspected something was up at that network then. I will miss the Today show as I search for a new morning news program to view. Although I like Savannah Guthrie and I think she is a terrific legal analyst she is not going to fill Ann's heels.
nbc should be a shamed of themselves i will not watch the today show any longer, anne curry was the show she is a great lady and not a snob like matt lauer, god bless you anne n best wishes
Ann, should have gotten the job when Katie Curric quit. and now thia is disgraceful. I hpe nbc drops to the bottom on
ratings. I'm out here.
I really like Ann Curry, and the problem is not with her but with NBC. The people who make these decisions should be fired, but oh wait, they are in charge! What do they say, go after the low hanging fruit first. Well, when they see that bringing in a new person doesn't make a difference either, what are they going to do then? I say just get rid of the big fat cats at the top who are out of touch with reality. Hey watch ABC and see how it's done little boys.
Shame on you NBC! I think it was such an unclassy way for Ann to go out! She deserved better. Goodbye NBC and Matt...hello ABC and Good Morning America!
I will not be watching any longer. I have watched the today show since Jane Pauly and Stone Philips were anchors. Let Matt have the show...I just don't see him as a serious anchor...he can interview celebrities...I want the real news...I will miss the others..AND they keep Hoda & Kathy Lee! LOL!!
Stone Phillips never anchored the Today Show.
When does Leno start?
I'm amazed all the people here thought she was sincere and genuine. She had the most fake interviewing style I have ever seen. Her fake emotions and concern was appalling. She would switch to her "soft voice" when doing one of her weepy interviews. The fact that people here didn't see it as a charade is very telling.
We stopped watching Today the week they brought Sarah Palin in as a co-host. What a bunch of idiots!
I'm with you Susan. I think that may be another contributing factor in the ratings slip. They probably thought it would help them!
Its a shame that they let her go. Matt just couldn't get along with her. She is the better of the two at the desk. Don't know who I watch in the morning. Maybe Good Morning America.
Charlie Rose and Gayle King are great at asking tough questions...that's where I'll be.
She's a class act. Morning news is now too much theatre and entertainment. Thanks for your contribution, Ann.
This job was NOT a good fit for Ann no matter what anyone thinks. She was stiff, uncomfortable, "said the right things", asked the right questions, but one got the feeling her heart wasn't in it. Even if it WAS, it didnt come across the screen.
Ann does great spotlight news shows and interviewing. I dont think she wanted to travel so much but that is where she blossoms.
Ann: for all of us: some jobs just aren't a good fit. Your destiny TRULY awaits you. Best of Luck!
FINALLY!!! I can't stand this lady and she brought NOTHING to this show. I actually turn on CNBC now because the Today show is a joke and is just a gloriified gossip show....
The "rest" of the crew should be looking behind them.....they need to replace everyone and start over....
The show is MINDLESS.......and one more thing.....Ann Curry takes credit for the Dali Lhama visiiting the US.... and for getting the hikers out of Iran....LAUGHABLE......she lives in a bubble world along with everyone else on that show....
What a bunch of BS.....she needs to go away.......
Good luck to you Ann Curry. I aslo did not think she was a great fit for Matt. Didn't NBC realize that, don't they do their homework. Like focus groups etc. What is really annoying is that Ann is getting fired for Today's low ratings.
But, why isn't Robin Roberts getting credit for GMA's no.1 ratings????
I think it was due to Meredith Viera leaving...ABC had no one to fill her spot and simply moved in Ann. I was never a big Anne fan but I saw her really working hard to make the slot a good one. Be proud Ann.
Matt is an idiot jock. I enjoyed the empathy and intelligence that Ann displayed in her interviews and interactions. Ann will get the last laugh.
To say that Ann was the only reason for the slip in the ratings would be stupid, BUT, you do not get the best of what Ann Curry can deliver when she's sitting next to Matt on the Today show. She is a journalist, not a personality and to those who think she's a good interviewer, think again. On so many occasions it has appeared as if she's had a brain fart asking, asking questions to someone who just went through something terrible, "did it hurt?". Not sure who's going to fill Ann's chair, but I like Natalie Morales a lot more than Savannah Guthrie. She's more personable and comes off as very genuine.
Finally!! Ann has not been very good in the spotlight and is very awkward to watch. She's dorky, has no charisma and can't get me excited to watch anything on the Today show. She is so much better on her own as a journalist.
She is best interview... Matt is fair and smell money.
I'm sorry NBC got rid of Ann, that's a big mistake in my opinion, I really like Ann. The little "Today's Professionals" thing they do is really dumb in my opinion, and I cringe every time it comes on. And the third hour of the show with Kathy Lee and Hoda is a joke. NBC should be ashamed of how they handled the whole situation. Rumor was, they tried to get Meridith back – wow! What a mistake! Meredith was always so dumb on the show, and Matt was always making jokes at the expense of her lack of intelligence.
Ann is a class act – very likable.
Good Morning America ought to grab her immediately. She would be a great addition to an already fantastic team and would bring viewers with her in droves. Matt is tired and done, no magic left. Time for him to ride off into the sunset.
She should be sorry. After all, Curry just didn't....ummm.....well she was too....uh.......It's just that whenever she.......well I'll have to get back to you on that...
Matt is the problem, always has been. He's big headed, big ego, condescending idiot. It would be impossible to work with him. Katie was able to put him in his place, but since she left he has had a free range!
I think you mean free reign......
Ann is a classy lady who deserved better treatment than what she got. She did what she was asked to do. I only hope the brass who made the decision to promote her are held as accountable and get a demotion.
Ann, good luck to you. I'm at least glad you landed well and make sure they comp you appropriately.
All the MEN in their ivory tower want is a dumb blond
with big breasts..That won't cut it.
I NEVER liked Ann Curry and stopped watching when she took over for Meredith. I'm glad she's gone. If I heard the word "rather" one more time, I think I'll scream. She was a mistake from the beginning. I'll start watching it again now that she's gone.
CG, maybe you're just s stupid douchbag that doesn't appreciate a woman with grace and style. Maybe one of the Hooter's chicks would be more your style...
CNN is giving the Ann Curry story a lot of traction.
Funny they didn't say much about firing John King from his 6:00 p.m. slot.
I made it a point to watch her interview with Sarah Palin and Ann Curry made a face when Sarah Palin was talking (I guess Palin took a few seconds more to elaborate on a point and Ann did not like that !!) I thought that was rather rude of Ann Curry to do that on live TV. Obviously she let her personal dislike of Palin show through and that was enough to make my heckles rise. Not a very good anchor if you ask me.
If you love Sara Palin, then go to kiss her A... Ann did nothing wrong.
I saw Matt Lauer kissed her on her head, made me thinking about Judas Kiss Jesus, then later killed him. It was clear that Matt's wants to get rid of Ann, maybe that's part of his contract deal. There was even no leaving ceremony for Ann, she worked for them for more than 15 years. They did it when Meredith left, she worked only for few years. It's so UNFAIR!!! NBC SUCKS!!! Hope GMA beats them even deeper!!!
I love Ann Curry. She should not have been forced out of the "Today" show and she did nothing to deserve any of the
humiliating treatment she received from the suits at NBC. These executives should be completely ashamed of themselves!
I can't watch this show anymore.
I'll miss Al too!
Ann is a very caring lady and I will miss seeing her everyday. Well, now I will forward to watching her present the news like only she can do. I see a better future for her than on the Today Show. Ann never disappointed me whenever she interviewed anyone! She is a first class lady.
Ann, it is not your fault. It is Matt and Matt's alone. I wish he had gone and not you. I can't stand his big, big ego. You were always a ray of sunshine, always friendly and great in reporting. I think that NBC has made a big mistake. Stay in there and get you money, and then go to another netwosrk and show what power you have. I'm not watching The Today Show anymore.
I really like Ann Curry, but to be honest she never was a very good anchor. She stumbles her speech a lot, and seems to get lost during interviews. One person that has started to drive me nuts is Al Roker. I know he likes to joke a lot, but he seems to make fun of people and I find myself saying " oh that was mean". I think she will do great in whatever she is doing next 🙂
I have to agree. I think Ann is a genuine and nice person but I thought it was a mistake from the beginning to make her an anchor. She's much better doing the stories she will do in the future. However, I don't think she's the only problem as far as the ratings go. They need help.
Shes high
I used to watch the Today show but it always felt like it was a chore reporting the news and anything else. A forced smile, forced emotion. I switched to GMA and just love it! They report the news as they as it should be done-serious, report enttainment news as that too should be done – with fluff, and all the other subjects of interest to the people who watch exactly as each one should be. When it signs off I feel like I have the important information I need, the weather reports that I depend on, and the useless celebrity information that makes me laugh. GMA will be #1 for longer now that they got rid of Ann Curry. She tried to bring something to the table but the other costs were not strong or able to add to it.
Matt should have been fired without pay!
Ann's a scapegoat for the Today show's increasingly bad programming. For years now the morning show has morphed more and more into Entertainment Tonight-like fluff. The economy's in the dumper, there are secctarian wars all around the globe, poverty is rampant and the Today reprts on Matthew McCaunaghy's abs...at 7:05 in the morning.
I have watched the Today Show for years and always thought Ann Curry would not be a good choice for the anchor position. It isn't because I don't like her personally; she just doesn't have the "Umph" required for that particular role. She's a great reporter and comes across as genuine. However, in my humble opinion, it takes a certain type of personality and charisma to take on such an important role & unfortunately Ann doesn't have it. Sorry Ann, nothing personal. Katie Couric is absolutely irreplaceable and I admit once she left, I stopped watching for a while. I really didn't care for Meredith Viera either. I started watching faithfully again once Ann replaced Meredith and still did not feel she was the right person for the job. As far as Matt Lauer goes, I have no issue wth him and have always liked and appreciated his talents and I believe he adds a unique quality to the show. As for replacing Ann, I know Savannah Guthrie is in the lead but I don't feel she's the right fit either. I think the role should be given to Natalie Morales (not only is she beautiful but she's got the charisma and reporting talent needed). Either Natalie or BEG & PLEAD with Katie Couric to come back.
Katie Couric is a Has-Been. No one watched her Nightly News show. Is it even on?? Plus Katie looks so old and weathered.....oh and also VERY annoying. I love Stephanie Morales. She is smart and smoking hot.
Matt Lauer was a snipe, to want her out. Ann Curry garners alot of respect, she was a good asset to the Today show. I wish her and her 10 Mill all the best. Matt your hair will continue to recede, and you will always be a philanderer and someday someone will sign a contract and want you out. It's what the world has become.
I'm off to watch Good Morning America. WIthout Ann, Today is a waste of airtime.
Ann Curry is an Oregon Duck and has always and will continue to make all of us Ducks proud.
After all of the fine reporting Ann did, and the integrity she brought to the Today Show, was this the best send off NBC could give her? How shabby of you NBC! Ann was one of the reasons I stuck with the Today Show, but now I will be tuning in elsewhere!
Dear Today Show, You are losing viewers like me not because of Ann Curry, but because your show has moved away from the once factual news and information presented in a entertaining way to mostly puff. This "puff" illness seems to be contagious as we are seeing it more and more in "news". Too bad we seem to be replacing all the serious news people with entertainers. I guess I will find a new show to watch in the mornings.
Ann Curry was professional, good, classy and nice.....I guess that wasn't good enough for the Today show. If anybody needs to go, it is Matt Lauer. If chemistry and ratings are what they are interested in that is were they need to start. Hire Ryan Seacrest........he would bring chemistry and ratings.
I was not home to watch the show today but just read the story. Am so glad that Ann is not leaving NBC but will be working in another capacity. It sounds as though she will be doing a bit of traveling around the globe to cover these stories as only Ann can do. Am sure Lauer was ooohing and aaaahing at her new assignment and all from a person who stabbed her in the back saying he didn't think they worked well together. In my opinion, he should have been the one to go. In any case, I wish Ann a lot of luck in her new assignment.....she will do it with professionalism and great pride as she has always done.
Thank goodness she is leaving!! Now she can actually do the type of reporting that she is so very good at!! "Today" is a joke and a total waste of her talents and TPTB at NBC are idiots. Wishing her the best in the future!!!
Matt Lauer wanted her to go...
I wanted Lauer to go....can't stand him...he interrupts people all of the time...the worst interviewer.
I love Ann Curry and for the people who make those decisions about who goes and who stays, they really screwed up with this decision. I stopped watching the Today Show a long time ago because it became, as others have stated, too Hollywood. I don't like Matt Lauer at all, I especially cannot STAND Kathi Lee Gifford and wish they would remove her from their roster. I think it is really bad TV to have two women celebrating booze all the time. I wish they would go back to the two hour format because there is nothing left to say after that. There are a b-zillion women's magazines that cover all the stuff the last two hours of the show cover.
@ grow up. Thank you for answering my question, and just as I thought this is a very serious event to most (if not all) of you. It would seem fitting that you take your own advice and grow up....find something more meaningful to attach yourself to. For the sake of all that is sane....I truly hope that you do find solice in knowing that life will go on. Someone on this blog please tell me that this writer I am responding to does NOT represent the thoughts and feelings of the rest of you. Furthermore and in response to your "grow up" comment......I think it would be very "grown up" of you to let go of your silly attachments to people who could care less about you, and find your own path to self gratification. The counseling lines are now open!!
Ann is often cringeworthy and I'm glad she's off the couch.
I'm not surprised this happened. If you notice, minorities always take the fall and are made the scapegoat when anything controlled by the jews or caucasians is going wrong. Al should watch his back, he may be next.
Ouch – that's not a fair assessment in this situation.
I totally agree with the mass – what a professional you are ANN CURRY- you are not the problem with the show- and yes i do agree that many fans of the show will leave over this. Matt Lauer could possibly be the problem- I have been watching George and Robin!!!!! But Ann what goes around comes around!! Keep your chin up- you are wonderful- get them to pay you your contract!!!
Savannah Guthry(?) is an awful TV personality. I grew up watching The Today Show, and after almost 50 years of watching I will no longer be watching the Today Show if in fact she is Ann's replacement. It is an awful thing to be screwed out of your dream job...no matter how much they paid her you can see the real hurt in Ann's face.
Give me a break. Ann Curry was a master at the fake concern during interviews. "That was so AWFUL. How does that make you FEEL?". Completely transparent and fake. Lauer saw through the fakeness and he disliked her and it showed in how they worked together. That is why she was canned. Now she can focus on doing what she does best, holding weepy fake interviews geared towards the female audience.
Ann Curry is a much better reporter than the Today Show deserves. I watched her in the morning before leaving for work and hope to continue to see her often telling it like it is. Good Luck Ann, you were not the problem with the Today Show.
Exactly; well said.
Ms. Curry has more class in her little finger than Mr. Lauer has in his body. To me, he never seems truly sincere or concerned when bringing us a story. While NBC might not have thought she was worthy of the Today show, the way she was dumped is awful and NBC should be ashamed. However, now that she's free to do some real reporting, she'll have a chance to show them how good she really is.
Not so serious as all that, Todd, but she was likeable and had heart. We could relate to her unlike the rest of new Hollywood journalism cast. I did enjoy your writing, though, and hope the producers take notice of the message behind it. 🙂
Ann Curry is a smart, classy lady whose contributions to the Today Show were invaluable. She has shown so much grace and courage throughout her years of reporting on topics from around the world. She deserved much better treatment than what she received from NBC. She is the scapegoat for a show whose problems are much bigger than Ann Curry. Instead of focusing on what was wrong with Ann Curry, NBC should focus on what Good Morning America is doing right. I have watched the Today Show for many years. After the way Ann was treated, I am no longer interested in the Today Show or NBC.
I love Ann Curry! I hope she leaves NBC and goes to CNN Like Soliedad. I also hope Robin Roberts and the ABC team continue to be the leader in morning television. This has really made me view NBC in a horrible light.
Everyone is talking about this and I have no idea who she is and who the other people on this show are. I don't watch much TV ....
thanks for sharing
@Tom: You're like that lonely kid in school who raised his hand in class, shouted, "Me! Me! ME!" but when the teacher called on him, he didn't know the answer. Just wanted the attention.
Ironically this morning they did a segment on whether Oreo had overstepped and risked alienating consumers by creating the "Rainbow" cookie ad. As a mature woman who balances career, marriage and family, I am hugely disappointing by this decision. Apparently, its fine for men to age gracefully in front of the camera but only cookie cutter cuties can stay on in the female gender. (I'd say beware, Dr. Snyderman, but apparently Americans like a little aging grace in their doctors.) The Today show has of late seemed more like entertainment on par with Kelly Ripa, not serious journalism. I can get my news on line; you made the decision easy to turn off the TV mornings.
Dear Today Show:
It has been made clear that your action surrounding the departure of Ann Curry from the Today show has cause a great hardship thoughtout the country. You actions have now made it difficult for people to enjoy life, find meanigful employment, and carry on with their lives as is best suited for them. Please re instate Ann Curry at once. America needs her, the networks need her, and the people on this blog need her. In addition, and as compensation for your egregious behavior, please set up counseling for those in the blog and around the country that are in need of support during this horrible and most trying time. Signed....Someone with no life.
Ha classic...
Today was Ann Curry's last day co-anchoring The Today Show and it was also my last day watching it!
Good riddance. She (and most of those hosts) have the worst reporting style.
And you have the worst grammar...write proper English!
If you want to get technical, your use of an ellipses is not proper grammar at all.
While I agree that her departure may have been poorly handled by NBC, I am okay with her not being the co-host. Many of my family expressed surprise when she was annouced to be the co-host last year. We really thought Natalie or Savannah were more fitting for the hosting duties. Her strengths are in her journalism and reporting and not as much with the daily hosting duties. From her years on the show you can tell she is a very dedicated and caring person. That doesn't always mean she was right for the hosting job. I hope she takes this new role and launches it into something huge that allows her to still remain main stream while using her talents. I am still going to watch the TODAY show and watch the specials from Ann. Best of luck to her!
I love that Ann Curry. I think so much of her that I believe that she will emerge as the absolute winner. She is destined for much bigger, more intelligent, and more satisfactory pinnacles. She is intelligent, kind, and exotically beautiful. What more could one ask for.
Who cares!!!!
Obviously YOU do if you took the time to sign in, make a stupid comment, and click submit.
Idiot.
I'd be crying too if I just won $10 million dollars and didn't have to work anymore unless I wanted to.
But, is anyone surprised at NBC's handling of the situation? Remember the Jay/Conan fiasco? I can still smell the burnt flesh from that situation.
Ann would be good on CBS Morning Show. I started watching that because there is more news and less fluff - GMA was turning into a junior high classroom with Lara, Sam and what's the other guy's name, Josh? Everything got dumbed-down and was geared more toward the People of Walmart/National Enquirer demographic. And the off-set laughter became too annoying. Now Today does it too, which is why I switched mainly to CBS. Charlie Rose and Gayle King are so classy and have charm, which is why CBS should bring Ann Curry on. They need to get rid of the dark-haired lady. She has no charm. Zero personality.
She went out with such class and dignity - not that I would expect anything less. Interesting that all she got was a few minutes of talk; no long, good-bye tribute like they gave Meredith Viera [sp?] who was there a far shorter time. Sad.
Ann says it's her last day on Today and then they cut to commercial and come back with Savannah Guthrie in her place on the couch!! That network is COLD-HEARTED!!!
To paraphrase Deborah Norville, this could be the best thing that ever happened to Anne Curry. She is head and shoulders above the Today crowd and deserves better than being Matt Lauer's sidekick. I'm looking forward to whatever this great lady does next.
NBC should be ashamed who they handled the sitution with Ann, it was HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL. They are repeating the same mistakes of the past, pushing shows and people out take for instance with Conan & Jay Lenon deal, Debra Norville and countless others. I smell a lawsuit coming soon that will only teach the company a much deserved lesson. Ann will bounce back, she is strong and a wonderful journalist, who has the support of her fans around the global. Ann: best wishes to you always!!!!!! I am now a former NBC watcher for sure!
I think cnn.com's headline is misleading - "steps down" implies it was voluntary. As a long-time Today Show employee, the execs sure knew what they were getting when the moved her to the host position. To give her only a year, then treat her so shabbilly does not speak well of the network or the TodayShow. Rather than pinning low ratings on her, I think they need to look to their programming which [in my opinion[ has become shallower and geared more and more to pop culture coverage. They undoubtedly will fill her shoes with someone flirtier, younger, shallower. Meanwhile, viewers are abandoning ship.
i wanna know more about the Matt/Natalie love child :-))))))))))
Booting Ann form Today is like the Coca Cola company bringing out New Coke, JCPenney getting rid of coupons or just about any user-affected changes Facebook does. I wonder where Donny Deutsch stands on this?
Ann has such professionalism, class and is so personable. I like Savannah and Natalie, but Ann has a warmth that just cannot be duplicated. I like Matt Lauer and the others but Kathie Lee has got to go. I used to have a Season Pass on my TiVO for Today and would FFW through it when I got home from work but it also recorded 1-2 hours of Kathie Lee so I just manually record the show and have it cut off when Hoda and Kathie Lee come on. Hoda is not too bad but the only person I can think of that would watch Kathie Lee is someone that is being held prisoner and chained down with the TV set to NBC all day long.
I totally agree with Mari, Ann Curry is the epitome of class and professionalism. Whenever she delivered a story, I felt the pain she was feeling, or felt the happiness in her heart. Her eyes told the story – they are amazing! She had a way of delivering a story to you which had a very personal experience. Natalie and Savannah are passable, but they need "seasoning" – something that takes experience and maturity. Savannah is excellent as a legal expert, but is awkward on the Today show. Is this what NBC wants? The show is becoming too plastic and after many years, I will be switching channels. Too bad. Please don't take Al or Matt off, that would be like adding salt to a wound. And talking about plastic, the Hoda and Kathie Lee show needs to go. As soon as I hear the theme music come on, I run for my remote and switch to something else, or turn the tv off. Come on NBC, get real and give us some down to earth people.
Get a life people. It's all about the cult of personality and talking heads delivering market-driven opium to the clueless masses. Ann struck me as a sensible, intelligent and decent person and she should consider herself lucky that she can now wash the dirt off.
"Market-Driven Opium to the Clueless Masses" .... I love it. Mark, you must be in the ad game. If not, you should be.
I am encouraged to see posts here from people appreciating class, professionalism and compassion. Too few people value such things. I am further encouraged that others don't like a mere 30 seconds of news and the "hour of celebrity crap." "News" on GMA is Rielle Hunter. Please. I like CBS in the morning; no screaming no celebrity "hot/cold" tickers. My mind and mood is much calmer when I have the TV on in the background as I'm getting ready for work.
good bye 'today'....hello 'gma'!!
YEP, I won't be watching the TODAY show anymore. It's not Ann Curry who brought the ratings down. That's for sure. She was a de-light on that show.
Loved Ann...hate Matt ! Should have been the opposite on that descision. I am going GMA all the way baby !
Seriously? Are all of you really this upset by a company's business decision? Or are most of you bored and just wanting something to talk about? There has got be other things to do besides waste energy on this...and now Im caught up in all of this non-sense. Look, the woman got fired....live with it America. Im sure none of you work for the Today show, so it would be a safe bet to say that no one on this blog will be affected by what happened to Ann Curry. Please direct your attention to something of more importance.
Seriously. ... but thanks for playing our silly little game!
Todd: It's not unreasonable to acknowledge that people get attached to TV personalities. Some of us consider them a part of our usual routine in life. When that routine is interrupted, we get upset or sad and want to let others know about it. Yes, it's silly but it happens. Good for you for being immune to this process.
Todd, don't you think it is ironic you are SO upset about the people paying attention to this yet YOU ARE STILL HERE...enough said
I'm sorry for Ann. It certainly wasn't her fault that the Today show ratings have slipped. I used to watch the Today show all the time until it started becoming a namby-pamby cooking and fashion girly show and ceased having world-wide stories that appeal to everyone instead of just stay-at-home women.
I am so sorry for Ann, too. she's such a beautiful classy lady, who I have enjoyed watching on the TODAY show. NBC is making a big mistake letting her go!
I won't be watching the TODAY show any more, that's for sure. NBC is going down hill, that's for sure.
PLEASE don't put stupid women in her place, like Rosie O'Donnell, Kate Gossling, Star Jones, Katie Couric, etc.
I don't think Ann Curry is the problem.. Perhaps the Today Show ought to go back to being a "news" program. I don't think that covering the "royal" family constantly counts as hard news. Neither does Octomom.
Maybe now that Ann has been pushed out of the way, the network will finally see that Matt Lauer is the reason for the sinking ratings. When the ratings don't recover or continue to fall no matter female they put on the couch, maybe "the powers that be" will finally figure out it's the MAN that is the problem to get rid of. Let me be the first to say, "Goodbye, Matt!"
I'll fix my own blooper ...
.
"When the ratings don't recover or continue to fall no matter WHICH female they put on the couch, maybe "the powers that be" will finally figure out it's the MAN that is the problem to get rid of. ..."
NOpe they will just fire the next "girl" and blame her... it is and old boy network
Who cares? Just another liberal that couldnt cut it.
Who are you suggesting Ann Coulter or Sarah Palin? I should be more understanding I suppose as considering today's Supreme Court decision, you're probably not having that good of a day.
First off, you must care since you read the article. Secondly, what the heck does being liberal or being conservative have to do with her leaving? Nothing. Get a clue.
Spoken like a true, hateful, intolerant Republican. Keep up the good work for your party of bullies.
Give me a break. This is another example for RACISM. Ann Curry wasn't white enough for NBC executives. I think NBC should realize that things are changing! I will send a letter to all of the sponsors of the NBC Today show and start a protest. For Matt to sit there this morning rubbing her back while she cried her heart out was disturbing, after he has said so many terrible things about Ann. All the Today show is a relic of the past. A black jolly man shucking and jiving and Matt the great white hope for NBC. Maybe NBC should come wit a new format with forward thinking ideas.
NBC treated Ann horribly through all this ... and over there at GMA they gave her a wonderful tribute! It's pretty obvious now which network has more class!
I guess I'm not very good at reading between the lines, and I don't know the apparent back story, nor did this article give it – what happened? Why is she leaving? And she called herself a ground-breaker, how so?
Ann is the classiest act on TV. She was the reason I watch Today rather than GMA. Big mistake.
Completely agree.
I am with you on that! They just lost a viewer!
NBC & The Today Show puts too many of their eggs in the basket of Matt Lauer. I rarely watch the show because I don't like him. He's morally bankrupt what with his various affairs; it makes me full of disgust just to watch. I'm not perfect either but this post explains why I don't watch the show. I don't think NBC gave Ann enough of a chance.
I will not watch the Today show ever again. Why don't they get rid of Al or Matt.. Love them both but they are no better than Ann. She is the real deal.
I always thought of Ann as the anchor of the show. She could be fun, but she also knew when to reign it in. She countered the antics of the others. This show used to be decent to watch. But they start to fill more and more fluff in it. I hope this will be a good step for her, let her go back to serious journalism
I HATE that she was pushed out that way! Why do things have to be handled this way? Ann, right up to the last moment you displayed the class and honesty that everyone loves in you. This will be for the best and then you'll be laughingat them!
And why are they talking about Meredith coming back? I thought Matt hated her???
A true professional! She belongs with the group on the CBS morning show.
she is one of the luckiest people ever to live on the face of the earth
boo hoo
I will not be watching the Today show any longer. Ann was the ONLY "real" person there. She was willing to be so human in her responses. She treated all graciously and with respect.
Let's not get all drama queen over what news reader comes or goes. Ann will get a nice hefty pay check for doing what most any of us could do. Sitting on a soa and chatting requires very little skill as Matt Lauer so deftly demonstrates.
I always liked Ann the best. She seemed the most real and the least fluffy. Several years ago I saw a segment where she cut off her hair on the air to donate it to Locks of Love (a charity that makes wigs for cancer patients). She seemed genuinely touched by the chance to give. Ever since then I've always had a special fondness for her.
I remember that episode. She has always been a class act. NBC really screwed the pooch by forcing her out.
She is walking away with 10 million dollars. She will be just fine.
I think Ann Curry is a woman of integrity and grace. I think it does not speak well of NBC at how she was treated and it may mean that the Today show will lose another. Semi regular viewer for their 7-10 am telecast.
Ann, I will miss your presence in the morning. My mornings were better for it.
I cannot believe what a bone-headedmove NBC made by firing one of the best anchor they had;ANN CURRY.
Ann Curry, iam very disappointed and sad to hear that you are leaving the Today Show. I also feel that they have did you wrong for time and hard work at the network. You have a heart of lion. I wish you the best!
Ann tried her best to get through it this morning. Matt looked like he just wanted it over since it was his decision. I wish Savannah luck with this guy but keep your distance. Didnt know before today about Matt and Natalie's love child rumors.
Canning Ann Curry was part of Lauer's new deal.
So while Ann was saying goodbye, the others had sly smirks on their faces. Ann was the best. Now to get rid of the other dead wood–Kathy, Hoda, Al. Rein in smug Matt.
Best of luck to you Ann.
They have now lost me as a viewer. Guarantee they will put either a blonde or an African American in her place. They must be politically correct of course, oh and I'm quite sure they will not hold 1/4 of the talent she has.
They lost me too! Ann was great and NBC bullied her off. Looks like I am a new viewer in the morning on either CBS or ABC! Why does it seem it's the woman's fault for declining rating.........not so! Good bye NBC!
Sad day...she was real and it showed. Today just lost some of its heart and Natalie is next, I'm afraid.
Wow, I'm really surprised that there are so many supporters of Ann! I've watched the today show since I was a kid, and Ann is by far the WORST female co-anchor the show has ever had. I really liked her when she was at the news desk, and while I was sad that Meredith was leaving I was excited that Ann was taking over. Man, was I wrong! She is absolutely TERRIBLE!!!! My BF and I cannot STAND her! I feel bad for the way NBC handled her departure, but I am really glad she's gone!!! BRING BACK MEREDITH!! (even though she would never come back).
Finally a post I can agree with! I've been watching the Today Show since I was a kid when they had Dave Garrowy, Frank ???? and Jack Lescoulie. Now those were the days!
I have nothing against Ann. She's a lovely person but she was out of her league trying to be co-anchor. She should have stayed on the news desk where she did a great job. I don't know who they'll get to replace her but they had better step back and think about it for a while. They need to get it right this time.
HI all, I have liked watching Ann since ?1990. I don't even remember exactly. All I know is I turned on the TV and watched her a some ungodly hour every morning telling news. Ann was and is so professional. Nothing like very early NBC Today news all at once no silly talk show no wasting TV ads at every 2 minutes it seems. Nothing, just news and it was ANN!! I miss that. I occasionally watched her as anchor and liked it but my days always started earlier. I will miss Ann and when I see her on TV again on some story I will smile and remember the simple things that are just right. Ann is class and elegance.
Get rid of the real problem, MATT LAUER. Maybe NBC ejoys having the self serving bigot in their employ.
He is a SNOB, who thinks that he is better than anyone else, and that he knows what s best for everyone. The TODAY show will always be the worse show on tv, as long as he is on it. PLEASE NBC, send him packing.
John, just because I turned you down in the men's room at Jack In The Box is no reason for you to be so hateful.
You shouldnt use Dick Trickle's name for bad, only for good. That said, does it really matter who reports the fluff articles on Today? Does the face in front of the camera change the garbage thats on the teleprompter? I think its funny when people sai 'I'll never watch ____ again!'. You know you will, I know you will, & to say such really makes you look foolish. Also, I'm pretty sure Ann Curry sees most of us as ratings numbers like everyone else on tv. The world will continue to spin, & you'll all forget about what's-her-name when the next flavor comes along.
changing to Good Morning America.
Wow! Never been so disappointed in a network. Ann Curry was the class act of all the shows and especially journalism. There are very few in the industry who carry themselves as she does. She represents dignity and passion for people that you don't see anymore.
Shame on you NBC
NBC doesn't recognize talent, just like the rest of the entertainment business!
NBC – you have allot to learn. This type of move will only make your ratings fall even harder. Your treatment of Ann is frowned upon globally and you should be absolutely ashamed. Who wants to watch a network that humiliates and hurts their employees. Ann will rise even higher in popularity and your ratings will continue to collapse. Good bye to NBC – I was once a faithful viewer. Ann Curry we love you and you don't deserve to be scapegoated. I can't wait for the day tNBC begs you to come back at triple your salary... and you will answer "no thanks"
I agree. Loved Ann. Felt like the show started going down hill when you realized that you couldn't watch a week of the show and have all of the key people there. Someone was always missing. How do you form a cohesive group that the public will watch and trust when there is always someone else on the couch? Too bad Today show, I was watching less and now I will not be watching at all.
i dont watch the lame stream media. i am sure she is a liberal blow hard. all this means is they will replace her with someone even worse that u lap dog libs will lap up with glee.
Does that mean FOX isn't "mainstream?" It's some esoteric, below the radar network? Still, have to love anyone who says "I have an opinion about something, even though I know nothing about it." Buffoon.
Bill, I'm sure you're a very nice person, but I don't see how commenting on liking or not liking the job Ann Curry did on the Today show has ANYTHING to do with someone's political viewpoint. People calling other names is exactly why nothing is being done in Congress, and you are simply contributing to the problem, with an assumption about what "libs" think. How about opening your mind just a little bit?
love your smugness but it is all poison to the brain regardless of party affiliation.
Ann curry seems like a very nice woman- too nice....
She is so bland and without personality that she is difficult to watch.
She is in the wrong industry-T.V. is a cut throat business based on ratings and advertisers. period
She doesn't come across as being particularly believable or having any passion.
I wish her well. but I think she would be much better suited behind the camera in an executive position, and let the real entertainers/personalities
take center stage.
Anyone remember what NBC did to Conan O'Brian?
That kiwi headed Matt should of stepped down. He's the reason I simply do NOT tune in to the Today show and go to CBS instead which has a stellar morning show.
What does "should of" mean?
I know what "should HAVE" means... that makes sense. But what is "should of"? That doesn't make any sense.
NBC did the right thing. Ann was never right for the role. Her interviews were always cringe worthy, especially when she got flustered with celebrities. I often thought, does she not review her own work and see how bad it is and try to improve?Obviously not and now she is paying the price. If you don't have IT, then you just don't have IT and that's what the viewing public deserves if the anchors get paid millions to do that job. I've watched Savannah handle herself so well in a sort period of time. Her background as a lawyer always bodes well in her interviews which are handled with intelligence and polish. And last but not least, Ann always seemed to be out of step in the wit and sarcasm department. While all the others were laughing at the joke, she just seemed to throw a wet blanket over it. Savannah has IT and the chemistry with Matt is obvious. This is a good day for NBC and the viewing public.
Completely agree. I think Ann will excel in her new role as well.
Savannah is very bright, likeable, humorous when appropriate, and unbelievably easy on the eyes.
Anne is not the problem..the problem is that the Today show isn't news anymore..it's hollywood, I watch it for 30 minutes then turn it off...Go find your niche anne, you're a real person, Matt and the like should step aside and let some new blood in..I can not stand when someone doesn't know when it's time to go...and Matt, it's time to go...Al..you should follow suit...
NBC-you are dumber than I thought. Ann Curry made the "Today" show come alive and she blossomed in the process. When she interviewed people–it came across that she truly cared. Don't know what you think you need to bring your ratings up–but with my disappointment–I will simply go to another morning news source. You did it to yourselves.
Ann Curry has been a class act to the Today Show in every respect ... GMA is winning the morning ratings, is definitely not because of Ann Curry - the fact that Matt Lauer is making such an obnoxious salary and is the most BORING commentator, is why they have lost in the ratings world......Ann Curry will do fantastic wherever she goes, it is the Today Show's loss.
I left Today show a long time ago! Matt is dry and and Anne was not a good interviewer! Simple! Did anyone see how Mike Tyson called her out when he did his interview a few weeks ago? She said that it was his first time on the the Today show and he said No, I have been here before. After all he was was the heavy weight champ of the world at one point. She looked like she was going to cry! And quickly blamed it on the writters and keep looking down at her notes. She was not able to come back from that! He was hard to watch! That is when I knew she was gone!
Cold is the way Matt looked cold
Ann Curry can best be described as a professional, talented, intelligent journalist who is empathetic, classy, sincere, and an overall good role model for all young women. Given this description of Ann, she simply did not fit well on the boring TODAY morning show. She will be a better fit in an evening program where her experience and talents will shine. Good Luck to Ann and I look forward to seeing her off the couch in an energetic new program. Ann, embrace your new role with confidence and know that you have many supporters.
I love Ann! But I have to agree that hosting was not her strong suit. She is a wonderful journalist and is a woman of class a grace. Rare to see on television! Best of luck to you Ann. I agree with everyone that the mighty NBC has fallen, and will lose viewers over this move. I loved her behind the news desk! The Today show needs a TOTAL overhaul. Ann is not the sum total of the problems with this show.
To NBC – That's a clown move, bro.
Like many have previously stated I believe Anne will excel I'm her new role. She was a journalist in what amounts to a there hour commercial (Today Show).
Hopefully that means more Savannah Guthrie in the immediate future. She's absolutely brilliant, likeable, and my God is that woman beautiful.
*Ann, *three.
Ann rocks!
Good Riddance!!! Ann Curry has been a pox on the show since the day she took over.
She was boring, and shamelessly left leaning. Whenever she interviewed a Republican, it was ALWAYS a hostile interview from the first word. But when she interviewed a Democrat, it was all posies and puppies. She sucks!!!!!
Xcrement suits you well.
It's hard to take someone with such a racist handle seriously.
Give him a break....He's still screaming at his TV because of the supreme court ruling on the Affordable Care Act.
Posies and puppies?
I stopped watching Today after Bush's last election. I've never seen a "news" show with anchors as blatantly biased as Lauer & Roker were. I honestly thought they were going to get up and dance around the couch. If Ann showed any bias to Democrats, I'd say it's only fair.
Ann should've seen the writing on the wall when she didn't get the top spot after Katie Couric left. I was furious when she was passed by for that spot – Joan – you share my thoughts. NBC should have given Ann the top spot and brought in some spunky eye candy to take Ann's place. It's just absurd – I think it's the top brass at NBC that needs replacing. Ann Curry – you have more grace and intelligence in your little toe than most people have in their whole body. It would've been a stupid move because of the money but I would've given NBC the finger.
Oh I agree Rhonda.
Ann Curry is such a classy lady. I am very sad that she is leaving the show. Please NBC, do NOT bring Katie Couric back. I am already going to switch now to Good Morning America! Even tho I don't really like that panel of people on there. But, without Ann Curry, the TODAY show will be stupid. And What's with having those 3 idiots on there as the Professionals? Star, Donnie and Dr. Nancy? What do they know? they just sit and jabber and it's so hard to even hear the conversation. And then when NBC has people like Rosie O'Donnell or Kate Gossling on there? I cannot stand it.
So, NBC – you have just lost me as a viewer !
so long.
NBC...are you kidding me?? HUGE mistake...HUGE. Ann made the morning show with her compassion, elogance and intelligence, unlike the likes of Matt.
Ann is meant for big things...maybe the morning show will proove to be beneath her and she can get back to real journalism...IDK. I am really going to miss her. I am officially off to try another station. Farewell NBC.
I am so proud of Ann and watched her every morning before going to work. I will be looking forward to watching her in her new roles. She is an outstanding journalist. Ann, you don't lose anything, NBC and Today Show do.
Agreed!!
Oh my did NBC drop the ball on this one. Ann Curry is the ONLY reason I turned on the Today Show before I headed out to work. They should have dumped Matt Lauer. He is so smarmy and disingenuous.....no wonder they had no chemistry.
Ann Curry is a class act and too intelligent to be working at such a Fluff Palace. I'm done with the Today Show.
I watched the Today Show because of Ann Curry. She is a first class act. Too bad NBC isn't. They didn't deserve her so their loss. Ann Curry will always be on top wherever she is reporting.
This is sad news. I had the privilege to hear Ann Curry deliver a commencement address to my nephew’s college graduating class a few years ago. Ms. Curry had everyone hanging on every word as she spoke. It was a message of having no fear, having hope, pursuing your dreams and having heart. While I liked and respected Ann Curry as a reporter and co-host prior to hearing her – but it was after listening to her deliver that heartfelt commencement address that my respect for her and what she has accomplished grew exponentially. Cheers to a person of class and integrity.
This is pathetic. If you want entertainers for your morning "news" programs, don't hire journalists – they're overqualified. Ann was too intelligent and too classy for this job – all the best to her.
"I never expected to leave this couch after 15 years" What did you think you were in congress? Actually I like Ann.
stopped watching after the sarah palin spot on the show! now i'm really glad i switched to abc! maybe ann will show up there???
why? because they exposed her for the idiot she really is. give them a break kev.
While she had awkward moments (as my wife and I both called them), she wasn't bad by any means. I wish her the best, and don't doubt success will follow her wherever she goes from here.
Bring back Katie Couric! You're rating will skyrocket then. Personally, I have never been an Ann fan.
I don't understand this move. I love Ann Curry and so do the rest of my family. DO NOT bring back Katie Couric. Can't stand her!
Today show without Ann Curry?
Now I will switch to GMA.
Ann Curry was choosen to be kicked out because she is ASIAN. NBC is RACIST. The Today show is now officially junk. NBC will fire Asians first.
So HAPPY to hear Ann Curry is OUT at NBC!!!! Just wish it was completely out!!!!!
Good Luck to the person who will replace her!!
So sad to see Ann leave she was a lady with lso much class. I wish her the best of luck and much success in her future.
Yes, right now it's painful for Ann. But watching her trying to kibitz with Martha Stewart about souffle was really beneath Ann's considerable news talents.
I enjoyed watching news and reports delivered by Ann. I agree the cooking and lifestyle sections were a bit awkward. I'm sad to see her go, but it may be good for her career to return to serious journalism. Today is more like an afternoon talk show now than a news show.
I only watched the Today Show because Ann Curry was one of the anchors. She is one of my favorites. I love Ann Curry and Diane Sawyer. Both journalists connect with viewers in a personal way. I won't watch Today at all now. I was pretty fed up with Today when they had Sarah Palin on...that was just crazy. Best wishes to Ann Curry. Today Show really did you a huge favor. Don't look back.
What are you waiting for CNN? Hire Ann Curry. NBC made a big mistake. She was an asset to the Today show.
Ann is not what's been wrong with this show. Some of the others that remain may be a bigger part of what's wrong. Personally, I haven't watched the Today Show since their pathetic attempt at a ratings-grab when the had $arah Palin co-host awhile back. Didn't watch that day, haven't watched since. Unlikely to come back.
Agree completely with your response. I have no intentions on going back.
Can they please get rid of Matt Lauer. He is so pompouss and I change the channel anytime he does an interview. I would much rather have Ann Curry talking to me than him anyday. Kick him to the curb and have Ann and Natalie host. That would be worth my time.
Ann is (and always has been) a class act. Matt Lauer is a self-serving pompous ass who thinks he is God's gift to journalism. I would have done cartwheels if he had left. Now, I will simply change the channel to GMA. If NBC wanted to get rid of female anchors, they could have gotten rid of Hoda and Kathie Lee–annoying, unfunny, and brash!
Dang, Ann was the best part of the show! I hope she finds work elsewhere soon, I can't get enough of her. Really the only one with talent.
Ann is class and caring personified. Honestly, I never thought she was the right person to co-host the Today Show, because she is too good a journalist to be researching and reporting some of the silly news on Today. Ann is brilliant, talented, compassionate and knowledgeable. She should be doing national and international reporting where she really excels. Ann is a real quality person. I am not going to say she's too good for the Today Show, but I think her greatest asset is in the "real news" arena.
Ann. Everything Russell Karasik said about you is true. You deserve better than Morning Show. Go fly higher Ann! We love you and cheering on your bright future.
NBC should be ashamed of themselves!!
I very saddened by the fact that Ann Curry has been replaced as one of the Today show anchors. She's always done a great job and been a class act, which is certainly rare for someone in her business. No one will ever convince me that subtle racism in terms of both the viewing audience and the NBC management wasn't a contributory factor in this decision. I personally choked up watching the video. Good luck Ann, you deserved far better than you got. Glad to know that we'll still be seeing you doing the outstanding work that you've always been known for.
I'm sad to see Ann go. She was the only real journalist there. I'm not going to watch it anymore. Meredith was getting on my nerves before she left and was tired of Matt and I'm really tired of Al and his boring jokes. They should get all new people and start over.
I really am shocked the way NBC handled Ann's departure. The gutless individuals who were behind this decision should have personally sat on the couch with her to make this announcement. This is no different than getting demoted or fired from your job, and standing in front of all the company employees to announce it – but on a much larger stage to do it upon. Very poor taste and lacking in integrity by NBC. The execs gave Couric a huge send off with 2 days of "going down memory lane" via videos, Hollywood messages, etc. Ann is plunked down on the couch and forced to make this announcement on her own with a pat on the back from Matt and that's it. Not that I expected a Couric like farewell "party". Ann was a straight shooting journalist and may not have appealed to all, however no person deserves this humiliation. Just wait and see the huge deal they make out of whomever they replace Ann with on the couch. Days of "wait for it" teasers, and the like. I have been an avid NBC News (on all fronts) for decades, however I cannot support the network any longer.Truly a sad day in journalism when they start behaving like politicians. That day has come. Sad. Best of luck to you Ann..you deserve so much more.
Well said! I coulnd't agree more. I have always loved both her more challenging stories, and the softer, more heartfelt connections she seemed to have with people being interviewed.
Ditto that.
I totally agree. An entirely gutless move on the part of NBC executives. To kick a person to the curb in such a fashion after years of dedicated service is horrible. Ann deserved so much more than this shoddy treatment. SHAME ON YOU, NBC. You will see the error of your ways.
Left the Today show long ago. Matt way too full of himself. Big fan of the new CBS Morning Show. Love Charlie Rose.
I am completely baffled as to why they would put Ann Curry aside. I have always thought she is wonderful! This is a completely wrong decision and "Today" just shot themselves in the foot! I think IF there was anyone that needed to leave it should have been Matt Lauer.
honestly, can ANYONE have chemistry with Matt Lauer?? He's the reason I don't watch that program, and he's the one that should be leaving IMO.
@ Gail....First off Todd is spelled with 2 (D's). Secondly, I understand "principles" but no one on this blog knows the entire story. Gail, everyone on this blog is so concerned that a Multi-Millionaire is losing her current position....when you make that kind of money, crap happens. If you want to talk principles then please make sure that you are there when that factory worker in Kentucky , who makes $15 per hour loses his job that he needs to support his family. Make sure that you are blogging and talking priciples when that laid off factory worker can no longer feed his family.Ok Gail? Lets not jump off into a principles debate.....and Im sorry if my earlier post offened you, but by judging from your response....I think I was spot on. Go out and be positive....impact a life needs assistance. Ann Curry does not need our help. All of you should actually be worried about the success of the show. Don't forget that there are those behind the scenes workers that dont make a lot of money, and are at real jeopardy of experiencing financial hardships if the show fails.
@Todd – luckily, 'dick' is only spelled with one D. And that's you.
Ann: You will be missed. I have seen how special a person you are & how you care about everyone not matter what the story line is. You are caring, passionate & just the most down to earth person, unlike some of the snobs on the show. I will continue to watch you & will miss your soft, warm voice and very special heart. You truly are a "professional"
GOOD GREIF!!! How do you all of you have time to watch these daytime shows?? DONT ANY OF YOU WORK?? I mean all of you are taking this waaaay toooo seriously. Its an entertaiment show....think of it, and treat it as such. You people are carrying on like what these anchors do affect your lives personally. Why don't all of you turn off the T.V for a day go out a be productive....Try to do something positive instead of bashing people who just trying earn a living like the rest of us.
Tod, it's that thing called "principles" that some of us have. I don't watch the Today Show that often, because I work, but right is right and wrong is wrong. And this is WRONG.
Todd, not everyone works everyday. People do have regular off days during the week and maybe that's when they tune in to watch. I
Todd, not everyone works a 9-5. Personally, I work the graveyard shift. Many who do work a traditional day shift job still have time to catch at least the first hour of the Today Show before they leave for work. Also, the Today Show is not “supposed” to be an entertainment show. It is a news show. Unfortunately, it has turned into more entertainment and fluff reporting than actual news. This, in my opinion, is why the ratings have dropped. NBC handled the demotion of Ann Curry in the most horrible way. I think that most of us who are commenting feel bad for Ann because of the way her employer treated her. She is a very classy woman who handled a tough situation with poise and dignity. I really hope she leaves the network and finds work elsewhere.
Dear Todd, mind your own business. Most of us do work and have a news show on while getting ready for our work day.
Todd most of us do work, we watch the show while we are getting ready for work! After watching for many years, these people have become a part of our lives. It is hard to watch someone be disrespected in such painful, ugly way. NBC should be ashamed!
Boo to NBC for taking Ann off the Today Show, just because they are scared of GMA. How stupid, we watch the Today Show for NEWS and some entertainment. Not the ha ha bunch on GMA and the CBS show. News is number one and Ann was and is an exceptional reporter and and interviewer. I wish her well with her new job as mostly a reporter, but will miss her on the couch. She had a wonderful chemistry with Matt, and Al and Savannah. I just hate networks they are so stupid the "suits" are idiots.
Good luck Ann we will miss you.
Boo hoo hoo, cry me a river.
....time to bring back the monkey.
I think she's a class act. She seems much more like a real person than the full-of-themselves-talkers that usually fill these fluff roles.
But NBC has proven that it isn't what it once was, in so many ways. The debacle with Conan (love him or hate him, they way they handled it was just incompetent), their increased political partisanship (to the point of intentionally doctoring tapes and videos in misleading ways), and their poor choice of TV shows (remember the iconic shows they once had?), shows this is a network that is floundering. Too bad. For many of us, what was once our primary network has dropped below many of the cable channels.
Boo hoo hoo, cry me a river.
Agreed – NBC should be ashamed. Ann was the only real journalist left on that show and the only person I tuned in to watch. She is classy, professional and intelligent and will be greatly missed. Since the others drive me crazy with vapid comments, pointless stories and moronic interviews, I'm done with the show now. Good luck to Ann – she deserves so much better and is on her way.
Sorry to see Ann leave the show, if I were Al I would be worried too. NBC in the past several years has not been gracious to their employees. Remember Conan? I still watch him but on another network. I don't however watch the NBC show that was taken away. I guess NBC didn't learn from that. If NBC is so worried about the ratings, why not try a new format or cover things differently. I wouldn't want to work for them, where's the loyalty? Ann you are a class act, no one can deny you that. Best wishes.
she was crying? Who could tell? She's a chink. They always look like they're crying!!
Eddie Haskell you are a sad, pathetic person.
So sad. My favorite thing to do in the morning is get a cup of coffee, sit outside on my deck chair and stream the Today Show to my ipad. This just isn't right!
Reason I continued to watch the "Today" show was because of Ann. We will miss you. NBC...bad!
The Today Show just proved that they have as little class as the Tonight Show. Thank you CBS for signing Charlie Rose.
I always wondered why Savannah Guthrie was in the chair when Ann wasn't there. I thought Natalie Morales was next in line. Now we know. Natalie, get out of there as fast as you can. Ann, you will be greatly missed!
I agree with PJA, Ann is such a caring woman, great reporter and a person of integrity. I will never watch the Today Show again because Matt Lauer is arrogant, uncaring and boring. Good luck Ann, I will miss your sincerity!
Ann Curry was and still is a class act in the comedy of personality news!
What a horrible decision on NBC's part. Ann is the best thing about the Today show. I'm going to be investigating CBS and ABC for sure! Best of luck to you Ann – your a class act!
Love Ann Curry, we'll watch something else now.
Ann, this is probably, although painful and unfair, the best thing that can happen to you. Your talents were being wasted on the Today show. It's just a fluffy entertainment morning commercial, really. You, Ann, obviously care about humanity, about important issues, about the world and the quality of life of others. You care about the truth. We cannot wait to see you in your upcoming, and no-doubt more relevant and worthwhile assignments. Godspeed.
She's Awesome and I think this will be an exciting move for her...Hope it works for her family life!
well said!
Well said. Getting the ball over the finish line usually requires a team effort. Ann, you were the reason I continued to watch the Today Show, but no longer. Meredith, Matt, Al and Natalie all put me back to sleep; your work ethic keep me awake because I expected to see some real "news." The absence of Savannah on the couch spoke volumes. Look out Savannah. NBC has already set your image with this former viewer. I look forward to seeing Ann in her new role, and Savannah with Brian as a legal analyst – not an entertainer on early morning TV. Best wishes to Ann
I will Never watch the today show again.Forcing Ann to leave was the last straw and a very low blow.Ann was the most loving, compassionate, caring and honest Lady I have ever seen on Today. Her Love for what she did and how she conducted her interviews were wonderful.I will miss the hell out of her and hope we can see her again. As far as the rest of the show,Good Morning America will be the star of morning news...Bye Ann and good luck...I have Loved you for 15 years and will miss you so much...PJA
Though I'm not a huge fan of Ann Curry, I will say that she was probably the only real journalist on that ridiculous, I'll call it, 'morning show'. She obviously doesn't fit in because she's a serious journalist not some daytime reality host. And you don't need 4 frickn people on a couch to give the news. Do they even DO the news? 'Cause it just looks like a bunch of fanfare and bllsht when I tune in. NBC has got like 4 hours of bllsht in the morning masquerading as a news show. Ann don't fret. You'll move on to something that's worth of your skills. Joining The Today Show was like running away to join the circus. Now, back to reality. Best of luck.
Exactly. The show is (has become) garbage, and NBC wants a scapegoat.
She's a better journalist than anyone on that show in recent memory. She's not great with live interviews, but overall she's in a different class than Laurer, Viera (who I really liked), and by far, Couric (Couric was strictly there for ratings – she is a TERRIBLE journalist and interviewer). Curry is just too serious and classy for Today, which is news-lite. Good luck to her on her new endeavor.
You can dislike Couric as a personality, but saying she was a terrible journalist is laughable. She is one of the few reporters that, one on one, would challenge people with abrupt, upfront, honest questions – then question them on their answers. Her interviews with presidential candidates were classics. Shortly prior to her departure the show started collapsing, and I think she saw that it was going towards less of an informative news show, to a day time, celebrity based piece of garbage. Viera is among the worst ever.
I'd like to see them replace Ann with Jenna Wolfe.
Ann Curry is not the problem, The "Today" show has been going down hill for years. If they replace Ann, they will show how really blind they can be.
I am sorry to see Ann leave the Today show, not because she was leaving, but how it was manipulated. To put the blame of lower ratings on Ann was wrong!!! I have been a faithful viewer of the Today show since the days of Dave Garroway and J. Fred Muggs. I have enjoyed the news reporting, and certainly the banter between the people on the couch. I felt that the show lost something when NBC allowed Katie Couric to walk away. I had grown fond of the way the female co-hosts would ask very deep questions. Among the best was Barbara Walters and Jane Pauly. They weren't afraid to ask the questions the person watching at home wanted to ask. When the show went to 3 hours, they lost me in the 3rd hour. The show lost it's edge, it became entertainment and not news. I am sorry to see Ann leave, but hopefully her new job will fit her expert skills better. Ann, good luck!!
This seems eeriely similar to what was done to Conan – NBC blamed the Tonight Show's low ratings on him even though the Leno show was apparently a crappy lead in. Maybe this is thier M.O. when they want to make a change without actually improving the wuality of the programming.
Then again, maybe they don't want Today to have any gravitas, and for it not be more the news variety show that it has always been rather than actual "news". Maybe Ann wasn't a good fit because she was an actual journalist and not a fluff anchor. Maybe we'll see her at Nightly News someday.
Wow lots of judgy people crabbing about Matt. They had NO chemistry. Ann's interviews were awkward and confrontational. It's nobody's fault, they just didn't have "it" together. Matt and Katie, Matt and Meradith...super. Ann...not so much.
So, It is ok for you to say you don't thing Ann and Matt worked well together and that is not being "judgy." If someone else says they don't like Matt, they are being "judgy." Interesting.
Have to agree Ann is a great person with a big heart but she was just not good at doing at doing the interviews on the Today Show.. there was something awkard and unnatural about it.. Matt I think is amazing..interivews are superb.. Good luck to Ann!
See is just so uncomfortable and awkward on air. Her breathless style of reading the news and inability to conduct an interview is tough to watch. Eveyone else is so smooth and natural, she is like a deer in the headlights...with her you can see smoke coming out of her ears as she tries to catch up with the others. She is always a couple of steps behind everyone else.
Good luck to you Ann we will miss you. And Good Morning America here I come.
Ann wes self-serving and great in her own mind only; old, cold & zero personality. Just wonder why NBC took so long to figure it out? Goodbye & good riddance.........may the ratings climb to new heights now.
She's great but too serious for Today that's becoming just another fluff show. Ann needs to go into international reporting.
If you want your ratings to go up NBC, get rid of Matt Lauer!!! How obvious. He is a pompous a@#. I don't watch because of him.
Anne can come sit on my couch.
Thanks, Joe! Your comment made me feel much better
Wow...so incredibly sad! Off to GMA for me.
Morning news??? Robin Meade, hands down!!
I AM DONE WATCHING IT IS PATHETIC MATT AND AL SHOULD HAVE BEEN GONE ALONG TIME AGO I REALLY FEEL THEY SHOULD STEP DOWN AND ALLOW ANN AND THE OTHER LADY TO DO THE JOB ... I WILL NEVER WATCH AND OR SUPPORT ANYTHING KATHIE AND THE THE OTHER OTHER LADY THAT SAYS IS NOT AFRICAN AMERICAN THERE SHOW SHOULD BE TRASHED THERE A WASTE OF TIME AND ENERGY
Cheryl,
You need to stop shouting or release your CAPS LOCK.
Also, pay attention to your spelling and grammar.
She's leaving with a bundle of money as well as a bundle of experience.
I am a lontime friend of one of Ann's helicopter pilots when she was working at a local affiliate before she joined Today. By all accounts, Ann was the friendliest, most gifted, and nicest people he has ever worked with. It was good to hear this from him. Not all news reporters have egos, and Ann always seemed to be everyone's friend. I believe everything she said on her final show was 100% genuine. I never met her, but I liked the way she carried herself. I do not watch the show anymore, but I hope Ann enjoys her new role and lands on her feet. We need to take care of the good people on this planet!
I'm so sorry to loose Ann. I was in support of her when that last opportunity came a few years back. Loosing a job you have passion for hurts deaply. It happened to me back in March. My heart goes out to you Ann. I cried for you this morning.
No one should be surprised. Yes, Ann comes off as genuine, kind, likable person but being a live anchor simply was not her forte, full stop. Her live interview questions were often rambling and unclear making it difficult for interviewees to answer. She consistently interrupted interviewees too early or at the wrong moment in an effort to come off as a hard hitting journalist. It was awkward and painful to watch her live interviews. This isn't to say she doesn't have talent and continued value at NBC. She was/is great at the news and taped interviews/segments. For those who think dropping Ann is a mistake need to remember that The Today Show is a product… a profit/revenue center for NBC, it's not personal. Ratings were dropping, big time. Like any product, if yours sales drop dramatically you have to stop the bleeding and fix the problem. I wish Ann the very best and look forward to watching her excel in her new role.
You nailed it.
Exactly.
Very well said Kai!
Very well put. ..
I think this is the best comment I have seen so far. It sums up the situation and I feel the same way, you expressed yourself well, thank you!
Ann was what made the today show real. She was the main reason why I watched the show. NBC Today lost a fan this morning.
I never like Matt Lauer. He has a super judgy, biased tone that just makes me sick. I like to get my gossip from TMZ, news from CBS. Charlie rose and gayle and the other lady seem very serious, newsworthy. ABC good morning america is trash also. Let TMZ be TMZ and the news be the news.
I'm a huge fan of Ann Curry the journalist and this is a good day for her. As happy as I was that she took over the role, it was apparent that this was not a good fit. She's an intelligent, courageous journalist who was wasted with those idiotic segments and I for one hope that she'll be the next correspondent on 60 Minutes. Ann, this is the beginning of the best phase of your career!
Love you Ann!!! If Savannah Guthrie is put in as co-host you can kiss this viewer goodbye. I can't stand her. Matt should have been replaced – he's so condescending and really not funny at all. Going to give GMA a shot – I've heard good things about them. What a bunch of nimrods running NBC 🙁 Anyone that would keep Kathie Lee Gifford on tv doesn't deserve to have a job!
Ann Curry is a beautiful, articulate, caring &, beyond precious. I always looked forward to seeing her on the Today show because she always started my day off with her sincere smile. I think the Today show is going to see that they have made a huge mistake. I was so glad to see Meredith leave and never understood why they hired her. Ann is special and always will be.
think matt lauer has some cajones to put his hand on her should in sympathy when he is why she is leaving...
morning tv sucks anyways...and now even more.
I'll probably stop watching myself. I liked Ann and they used her as a scape goat. I just don't think Matt liked her but was forced to put her in that position. Personally I don't like Al, his jokes are often stupid an ill timed.
By Ann you'll be missed.
Totally agree..how hypocritical of him. Love Ann, but more in her reporting correspondent role – she's too good for the morning TV fluff the show has turned into. Bad miscalculation tho' on NBC's part – they're going to lose even more viewers for the classless way they leaked the news.
Ann Curry is my favorite and pretty much the reason I watch. I am a fan on Facebook and will follow her wherever she goes. Ann, you inspire me and always have and I believe in you and appreciate the humanity and dignity and REALNESS that you have always brought to the journalistic world. Matt is right, you have the biggest heart and it comes through in everything you do. I will see you wherever you go and God Bless and best of luck!!! 🙂
News reporters "making" news shows the sad state of reporting. We no longer have information reports, we have news-makers exercising their free speech. I remember when we could get news. Now we get sales pitches for revenue enhancement opportunities thus further enabling the top 5%. The internet is certainly a helpful tool in realizing the truth.
I am so sorry to hear of Ann`s leaving I enjoyed her very much! On the other hand NBC needs to let Al Roker go his personality and his weather reporting for Today and the Weather Channel have been the lowest I have ever seen, hes a boring person with no "real" connection for the people he seems fake. Then theres that extremely over the top excuse of an hour with Kathy Lee And Hoda Please we dont need them either. What ever happened to real news?? NBC has lost my viewership
I've always liked Ann. She was a great Darth Vader when the show did its Salute To Star Wars episode. Smooth sailing ahead for ya Ann!
here is a funky story...homeless billionaire...berryville arkansas??? heard a rumor at various retail stores and restaurants around town...very bizzare...
Ann was good in the News Desk. She is a good journalist, but she is not good enough for the co-anchor position in the Today show. She should have been replaced long time back as Matt's co-host.
BEST OF LUCK ANN.
100% agree!
This is really bumming me out. Ann Curry was the best part of Today. When I tuned in it was to see her segments. It didn't hurt that she's drop dead gorgeous. A really stunning woman with brains and a big heart. Does NBC think the men in their audience were tuning in to see Matt and Al? Also a great role model for young women – you can be beautiful, and smart, dignified, and caring.
I Love Ann and i so sorry to see her go. NBC sucks and I am moving to Good morning america.
Are you kidding me NBC!!!!!! How can you treat someone like Ann Curry like that, she was not your reason for ratings dropping. They will probably drop even more now. Well I guess I'll have more room on my DVR for more shows since I won't be taping the Today show anymore!!!!! Thank you Ann for all you did for that show. Best of Luck to you.
Alright, let's be for real here. Ann was good at what she did before taking on the co-host seat after Meredith. I cringed at times when she did solo interviews with people cause she wasn't quick enough, tough enough and didn't ask great questions through the interviews. The flow and her reactions/interactions were weird and different than the others. When doing something live it's different than doing something that is recorded and expected (scripted/prepared). You have to be spontaneous, on spot, be a good ad libber, and quick to the gun and ask the questions that is on everyone's minds. Sometimes she staggered and tripped through getting words out and has a monotone quality about her, that was kind of... boring. The others had, hate to say it, personality. I think this was part of the decision to not keep her. Yes, she is a great person, great journalist, one to be admired, but her soft-spoken, reserved, emotional ways wasn't a right fit for this job.
I stopped watching NBC years ago, they lost that loving feeling. Watching Good Morning America, only because its fresh!
I like her so much. She was the one of the reason I love your show. I feel her like she was my relative or the best friend. I am very upset right now. I wish all the best for her in her future. I also hope that I'll see her on your show as she promised.
shame! shame! shame! NBC. What a loss! I am definetly going to ABC and this time for good! All my three TVs will be switched to "Good Morning America" every morning!! You just lost a classic, serious and professional journalist! Wow what a hypocrite move! Ann, my family and I will miss you dearly! Good luck but maybe you need to leave NBC. You don't need them!
Ann Curry did not deserve the treatment she received from NBC and whomever leaked "the story". I hope she'll be happy doing the important, serious news she excels at. Speaking of which, for serious morning news try CBS This Morning with
Charlie Rose and Erica Hill. You'll be pleased.
I loved Ann's in-depth pieces but hated her interviewing skills. The questions were so long it was hard to even know what she was asking by the time she finished. Sometimes the questions were longer than the answer! And then she would interrupt the answerer! All she needed was an interview coach.
This networks problems are not because of her. We do not watch this broadcast to hear about Kate Middleton's fashion choices before Korea's threats to fire missles. Get back to the real news first, the anchors have to stop trying to be celebrities (Roker, Hoda and Kathie Lee) and be news professionals! And for crying out loud, STOP glorifying alcoholism! Real news, real news, real news you idiots at NBC!
Next thing you know the NBC exes will hire a Kardashian as an anchor
I'm 28 and I have watched the Today show in the mornings since I was in middle school. I thought Ann was genuine and warm. NBC has missed the mark once again. I will exit stage left and join the GMA show now.
I watched the Today show for over 20 years but stopped watching when Matt became the show "head". First Today became biased, next it left news altogether and started become nothing but fluff. Ninety seconds of news in each segment now? Come on! There are no "in depth" stories. Unless you count how many calories are in a mixed drink. Get rid of Matt Lauer! Ann Curry is at least going to be doing real news now.
LuchBelle has it right. It's Matt who should go. He's never added anything to the show, and for the new salary they are giving him it's just obscene. I would think if he wanted her to stay he could have flexed his muscles.
Well that does it – I've been waiting to see what they do, Good Morning America looks good to me. NBC disgusts me.
I've already left the evening news and went to ABC after what they did to Sue Simmons.
These women are great – hope NBC suffers big time with big losses.
Ann was the reaon to watch the show. Shame on whoever it was let her leave. Oh Well , No more today show for me.
Ann Curry did not deserve the treatment she received from NBC and whoever leaked "the story". I hope she'll be happy doing the important, serious news she excels at. Speaking of which, for serious morning news try CBS This Morning with
Charlie Rose and Erica Hill. You'll be pleased.
Sorry, not interested in "Today" any longer. Ann Curry was the last entertaining person that show offered. Matt Lauer is about as exciting as a lint ball and Al Roker is just plain annoying. Stupid move NBC. She wasn't the reason your ratings are dropping.
That's it for me with the Today Show, she was the only co-anchor that I liked since Jane Paulley.
I am not a fan of Ann Curry but she deserved to be treated better.
It baffles me beyond belief that Kathie Lee Gifford is still there. She is an annoying, rude, ignorant, and condescending loud mouth.
NBC ... please get re-vamp the whole show!
p/s Oops ... I didn't mean to stick the word "get" in there. At least Katie Couric is coming back to the screen!!!!!!
How to effectively register with NBC 'management' our dissapointment over Curry's removal? Ratings, of course! How about we all tune our TVs, especially when we're using one of the cable services, to one of the other morning shows, whether we're watching the TV or not! A class act like Curry only comes along once in a blue moon!
John in NYC I love It!
Don't watch the Today Show, can't stomach Roker's silliness or Lauer. Ann Curry, who grew on me is excellent. Someone else said she's the best thing NBC News has going for it. Too true.
Ann was the only reason I continued to watch the show. Matt was the one that needed to go.... I will now watch the Good Morning Show and so will the majority. You will see the ratings drop further because she is leaving. If Matt was leaving, you may get back some of your fans. Good luck to Ann!
Dumb move by NBC, she wasn't the reason.
Then again, part of the problem is the content people actually want is crap. The good content is too complicated for them.
Ann is and will always be an excellent newscaster. It is like talking to a friend every morning with her on. Really folks an you wonder why girls are so worried about looks, size etc. when people are talking about Ann's appearance she is a beautiful lady and a person to look up to!
dumping NBC's morning show over this... It should have been Matt Lauer to go, he bores me
Absolutely agree with you.
What a shame to let Ann get away from Today. I've watched her not only for her take on the day's news but because she has the absolute best eyebrows on TV.
If they replace her with Savannah Guthrie, I'm never watching that show.
Savannah had an affair with a married man, and I wouldn't be surprised if she is blah to make it to the too!
Can't stand her
I love Ann Curry. I don't watch bald-headed idiots who think they are so special that they don't need her as co-anchor. I will watch anything Ann does.
I hope she does another Kill Bill movie.
No more Today Show for me. Ann Curry will be fine. She is one of the few things NBC has going for it.
Ann was a class act all the way. Hope the ratings DROP more now that that got rid of her.
I completely agree. Ann Curry was the heart of the show. It's amazing to think that she is the one to take the fall. Her future work will hopefully put the "powers that be" to shame. Good luck Ann Curry.
I switched to GMA when Ann became the co-anchor on Today. it was hard to make the switch after years as a Today viewer, but now I watch the ABC local and nightly news as well! The GMA team is an enjoyable start to the day.
So did I Bob. Had watched the Today show since I was a child. I thought Anne was a great person and excellent news reader. However, I found it painful to watch her interview people. I'm now a big fan of GMA although it took a little time for me to adjust.
Firing ANNECURRY ! Unbelieable! Iwill not watch THETODAYSHOW without her on the show. NBC has made a big mistake& will lose many viewers. I wish her all the best. mary
Ann Curry is truly the best – those in charge really should look at how important true stories are – and not biased ones!
Matt Lauer has some nerve being all nice to her. He is part of the reason she was axed. Someone should fire him.
Agreed. Matt Lauer is a mental lightweight who has dumbed down theToday show in so many ways. It is not longer witty, interesting or informative. With Lauer at the helm the downward spiral will continue. We're done.
Ann is an excellent journalist. She was gutsy courageous and professional. Bad move for NBC. I am going to watch a different morning show now.
NBC are you kidding me. This is one more reason you are losing ratings. Ann Curry was the ONLY reason I watched the Today show. I will be watching ABC going forward. Ann Curry was/is awesome. Remember the smart idea to retire Jay Leno for Conan? This is the same poor decision making. Somebody at NBC needs to be fired other than Ann Curry. Stay tuned.. The Today show will lose more ratings. The Today show is full of mindless chatter, not good information or news. Good luck Ann, we love you. You are a top notch reporter and a class act woman.
I agree with you completely. Ann Curry is the only reason to have ever watched the Today show.
Well, I didn't think Ann did as well of a job as previous anchors – never thought she did as good of a job interviewing folks for the harcore stories and issues. I will still watch today but still don't like the way her exit was handled.
Ann went out of her way to help me get some autographs that I plan to auction off for Make-a-wish. She had genuine warmth towards her audience. She made each person feel important that she met. That is a rare quality in a person. Ann is intelligent, graceful, and kind. She was a breath of fresh air for Today show. In fact, I only started to watch Today regularly when she became a regular co-host. I wonder how low the ratings will get once Ann leaves. It is a shame, replace solid talent to dumb down to society. Ann you were too good-something better on your horizen-somewhere where you'll be appreciated. Ann where ever you go...so will I. Adios Today, Good Morning America!!
I like Ann Curry a lot, but Savanna and Natalie are hotter. It's a win-win from my perspective.
If Savannah is replacing Ann, goodbye Today and hello Good Morning America!
Looks like GMA will have many new viewers!....Hmmmm think it was a good choice NBC?
After Meredith left, Ann was the reason to watch the show. I don't think I even know the names of the other female hosts. Oh well, no more today show for me.
They'll find some black person to give the job to. Not that many of them work, anyway.
wow you seem to be such an intelligent person....raised with morales I can see.
@Mammy – oh we work, we working on getting you right now.
Seriously? Please say something with meaning. Try not to always show your ignorance.
I have watched the Today show for over 40 years and have always enjoyed most who anchored it with few exceptions. Ann Curry is one of my favorites and I agree that she brought a very fare reporting style to her work. I always felt she would get the truth out of an interview. I loved her sincerity with her television family as well as her viewers. Hopefully she will enjoy her new position and that NBC will provide her with safe places to go. Shame on whoever it was who let her leave, what a big mistake.
Not a bad NBC host. Not a bad salary either. Those NBC salaries $10mil, $20mil, $31mil are nice. NBC has a vow to hire 1000 vets. Let's do some math. Cut a $20mil host and hire 400 vets at $50k. Productivity in action.
I always loved Ann Curry previously as the news desk anchor and this year as cohost. She's smart, funny and sensitive. I think that she's really too good to be just a talking head like Matt Lauer. She is best when she's reporting real stories, going into war zones and disaster areas and showing the viewers the truth. I don't think her talent shines doing the puff celebrity pieces that Today features every morning. Matt Lauer has become such an egomaniac that it's hard to watch him any more. Today used to be my every morning go to for the news/weather, etc. before I left for work each day. After this fiasco and their treating Ann so shabbily, I think I may be turning the channel as well. I really wish Ann Curry the best in whatever she does and I'm sure she'll continue to be a great reporter. As for the NBC execs and Matt Lauer, Karma will balance the scales.
perfectly stated!!
Perfectly written!
Amen! Sara, Karma will balance the scales. What a deep response to this evil
You reap what you sow!
Actually I stopped watching Today when I Ann donned her "burka" and cowed down to the iranian president, then doggedly grills the politicians here, interrupting them before they can even answer her previous question.
Wow – Big miss for NBC – did they not get it that Anne was the draw for their viewers ... she was the ONLY reason I (and others) watched – the rest of the hosts are HORRIBLE, fake, and not very intelligent (I leave the room when they are on). Good luck to Anne and Today – won't be watching anymore.
I have been a loyal viewer of the Today show for over 30 years and from this day forward I will be watching some other morning show. Ann Curry is the most professional newsperson you have ever had on the show and to kick her to the curb as you have done is inexcusable! She is the gutsiest lady I have ever had the honor of watching. The Today show should knock off all the fluff crap and get back to being a morning news show. Perhaps you should be looking to replace whoever decided the change the format from news to what the celebrities are up to and get back to what normal people are interested in. I will be over at ABC watching each morning if anyone wants to respond.
I completely agree with you Jerry! I never usually comment on stories, but I feel that Ann is such a wonderful person- such a class act and all around good human being, frankly a personality which I like to wake up to! She is deserving of sooo much better...the power of the people belongs to her, we all know she has nothing at all to do with Todays
's poor ratings...evidently those idiot execs can't figure that out!
Love Ann Curry!!!! This is the biggest mistake they have made in years!!! Ann & AL were the only reasons I watched this program for years. I am done. Good luck to you Ann. You are loved and will be missed. I will watch anything you are involved in!!
What do you expect from NBC? They did this with Conan on late night TV and now with their morning show. They don't care about their people or who they trample on.
So sad and a huge mistake. I can not stand Matt Lauer, he is the reason she is leaving. He wouldn't sign his contract until NBC promised to get rid of her. I'm a Good Morning America fan now.
Like Ann VERY much, but sorry to admit, her style lends itself to longer, more indepth pieces. Her talent was being wasted in this venue. She cannot condense a story to a three minute sound bite.
Look forward to her return to hard-hitting journalism, and reporting on deeper issues than the morning "fluff."
I'm very disappointed that Ann is will no longer be the co host! She was my favorite part about the Today. Besides Katie Couric. So, now that my 2 favs are gone, I'll be switching to Good Morning America! I think Ann is beautiful, fun to watch, and very smart! She was a great asset to the show and a great compliment to Matt. Shame the network couldn't see that.
The only way this effects my life is I will go from occasionally watching the show to never watching the show. What millionaires cry over is beyond me. Like she will never work again. A DVR of the previous night's Craig Ferguson show is still my #1 morning viewing.
And we really don't care about your life and what you DVR?
Ann curry, what class. It's all about money. NBC needs to sack the whole team. It is a tired format. NBC doesn't
even come close to CBS and Charlie Rose and Gail King. Better news all the way around
She's an awesome reporter, intelligent and absolutely has a big heart, but I don't think that chair is a good fit. Personally, I don't think she has the personality. I found her interviews to be dull and sappy. Good luck, Ann.. you will do better in your new post.
I found Ann Curry warm, smart, and honest. I held her with great regard and respect. It is a shame that the Today show execs didnt see the same thing that the viewers saw. She connected well with the audience. She had a "Walter Cronkite" appeal. She was someone that we, the viewer could trust. She was the "mother" of co-hosting. Only a mean-spirited person could kick their mother to the ground. How shameful Today show execs should feel. I have turned Today show off. Where ever Ann goes to work-I will be a viewer. Maybe CBS will pick her up and pull their ratings even higher. Touche'
I agree. Ann Curry is a talented, empathetic Emmy winning professional, and is being made a scapegoat for the network's lack of interesting programming. They need a complete revamp, including Lauer. I will not watch Today again. I hope that Ann can again continue her excellent reporting.
NBC= NoBody's Channel.
Ann was a class act all by herself I will truly miss seeing her in the morning. This was Curry's last day on the show and this was my last day watching the show. Hello Good Morning America!
I'm very sad that NBC is removing Ann Curry. I thought that she and Matt Lauer had the best synergy on morning television. She's an exceptional newswoman and I hope she continues to be given significant place in the NBC family. I will miss her greatly.
This is sad and just goes to show how low NBC can go. I stopped watching after they made the idiotic decision to make Sarah Palin a co-host for a day. You should really try Good Morning America. They are great.
They should have gotten rid of Kathie Lee Gifford!
I am stunned that NBC/Today has made another bonehead decision by letting Curry go. Natalie Morales is a beauty pageant queen and couldn't hold her own with an important news-maker if she tried. It would be an utter embarrassment. I trust they will limit her to cooking segments and fashion. Whereas, Ann Curry could empathize with news-makers, make them comfortable enough to spout things they probably weren't even intending to share. That's it for me with Today. I will go to CBS, and spend my mornings with Charlie Rose. Shame, shame, shame on the people at NBC who made the decision to yank Curry as a regular on Today. Sheer idiocy.
100% agree!! they should never have put Katie Lee back on TV. NO one wants to listen to her talk about herself!!!
Good luck Ann. YOu are a class act!!
She will not be missed the worst morning person on the air. Not sure how Matt could sit there everyday. At least NBC didn't let this go on any longer. Time to watch Today again...
Wow! You must be one of the producers hordes! Pathetically blind.
Big mistake. Ann Curry has been the reason I watch the show for many years now. What has driven me away from the show is the focus on 'fluff' stories. Return focus to the news, stop interviewing old actors who have released some stupid memoir book, spend no more than 1 minute on any 'royals' story for any given day. The same reason I don't watch Entertainment Tonight is why I won't watch the Today show.
I am ashamed that I was such a loyal viewer of the program today. When you can replace a classy person such as Ann Curry with the likes of Savannah Guthrie, I will be switching morning programs. I never watched because of Matt, just his co-anchors. Watch your back Al.
Big mistake NBC! Ann is the reason I USE to watch!
What a great loss – such a classy lady. NBC sucks OUT LOUD – plain and simple and it IS NOT due to Ann Curry. I and my entire family (which is vast in size) have made up our collective minds to NEVER watch NBC again. She WAS the ONLY serious and compassionate journalist that MADE that show work. What FLUFF – just turn into TMZ already... Ann, please take your talent and integrity some other place – they do not deserve you.
Well said!
This seems like the Jane Pauley thing all over again where some executive decided he wanted a hot blonde on the show, which turned out to be a big mistake. NBC would be smarter to fire the executive who came up with this recommendation and approved it.
I have a lot of respect for Ann Curry and always enjoyed her presence on the Today Show, but not so much for NBC management.
Ann, best wishes to you, and I'll look forward to hearing your stories.
This is wrong. She was the main reason i watched the show. I will find something else to do during that time.
I have a suggestion to all who are unhappy with the Today Show, switch to Good Morning America.
I agree with you, Dennis. I will find something else to do during the time the Today show is on. I am a long time viewer and believe this is most inappropriate both in the decision and the way it has been handled. Ann is brilliant, classy, witty, compassionate and attractive. NBC is making a huge mistake.
NBC did the same thing to Jane Pauly and it was a disaster. Everyone loss out on that deal and I think the same will happen with this. Good luck, Ann.
Uh yeah, it was Ann's fault. The reason no one watches the show has nothing to do with Ann. Years ago, it was a MORNING NEWS show, that reported real news, then had short bits at the end about cooking, shopping etc. The show now has about 30 seconds of news, an hour of CELEBRITY CRAP, and the rest might as well be called the View 2. It's garbage, they even ruined the holiday portions of the show. Couric left to avoid this inevitable embarrassment.
Ann Curry will be missed- she is such a nice, smart person. NBC should be so ashamed of the way they handled this. they are really going to loose viewers for The Today Show because of this. And I agree the ad revenue will also be lost. I won't watch The Today Show anymore-–NBC has made a very bad decision this time--very sad!!
big big MISTAKE.... I will not watch the show ever again..
Hello GOOD MORNING AMERICA!!!!!!!
Well....I have watched the Today show for many years. I do not like the way they handled this and will not watch there morning program anymore.
We've watched Today for years our teenagers now watch Today. Ann by far has been our favorite. BIG MISTAKE for Today Show execs. I think it's time my family change the channel. Good Luck Ann we wish you the best.
Blessing,
The Gee Family
My family will miss Ann. Did anyone consider it a bit tacky that Ann said her good-byes, a cut was made to commercials, and then back with the 9 o'clock hour with Savannah sitting in the exact spot we last saw Ann?
Oh My Goodness! I thought I was being pessimistic. I saw the signs a long time ago, classic subtle haterism, that Savannah chic slowly cutting down and under mining Ann. Copying her style of dress, not meshing almost purposely. You could tell she was going for Ann's spot. She's smart I give her that, because she got it. She's probably been courting those back rooms guys (producers)the whole time, convincing them of how smart she is while down playing Ann. but she doesn't have the IT factor. You cant go to school for IT, you can't copy IT. You either have IT or you don't and they're about to find out. I don't feel sorry for Ann though, IT factor folks always bounce back and crap like this will only make her stronger. Thx MEK!
I hope Ann reads some of these comments. She truly brought class to the today's show and was the highlight of my viewing experience. I have loved Ann since the day she started and really thought she brought an earnest, truthfulness to her reporting. She has been my favorite person on this show for a long time and I will certainely continue to watch her in whatever she does. I'm not sure if I will keep watching the today's show or switch over to GMA....Again, I made a point to watch her interviews, which she made poignent and engaging. She had empathy that I have never seen in an anchor, reporter, or journalist. It was heartbreaking to watch this morning and I really hope she finds happiness in this new role. We love you Ann and support whereever your career takes you.
Why is NBC looking to Ann Curry for their lousy ratings. NBC has been going down the toilet for years. It's not that people don't watch the Today Show, they don't watch the NETWORK!!!... Ann is a scapegoat, I hope the ratings plummet further... Ann doesn't derserve this treatment! (ala David Letterman).....
I thought Ann was great. I guess people aren't interested in real reporters.
Priceless!
Ann Curry will always have class. They are putting too much on her shoulders. Perhaps they need to look elsewhere for the low ratings. Matt is so in love with himself, Al tries too hard to be funny and the rest just follow. The show is becoming quite shallow. The stories, big or small, are just to showcase the anchors. Ann brought substance and humanism. Sad, sad day for the viewers. The three specialists are the 3 Stooges. Get them off. They are totally ridiculous. Whoever is calling the shots on this show is missing the mark completely. Godspeed, Ann. You are the best.
Agreed. Ann grounded the rest of the cast and gave them class. Matt is so condescending it's pathetic. But more importantly the show itself has zero focus. One day it's a show about frugality and saving money by sewing your own clothes and the next day it's a show about ultra expensive ridiculous junk. One day it's about losing weight and counting calories to be healthy and stay healthy and the next it's ridiculously uber junk food recipes. Make up your mind already. Do you want to be a serious show or not? And yes, I will be one of the very, very many for whom this is the tipping point and will not be watching the show tomorrow, or after that at all.
Sorry all I did love the Today Show. I have watched it everyday for the past ten years. Time to move on. When they continue to remove good people and I mean very good people, I can no longer watch. Time to turn to ABC and even that turns my stomach. Ann wish you well, send my love to Katie as well.
Ann Curry has been one of our favorite hosts on The Today Show, and she will be missed. Unfortunately, they are going to lose a lot of viewers over this and we will be two of them. If Good Morning America has had better ratings recently, they will get even better with the viewers switching over as a result of losing Ann. Could it be that this was not the reason for the loss, that it actually was something else? We will see, but good luck to Ann and what a trouper, to actually stay with NBC in another capacity! I feel for Ann Curry. She has always been an excellent journalist bringing hard news stories to the viewers. I will still follow her reporting because I believe she has not just integrity but a gentle heart. I think NBC should be ashamed of how they handled this. And I agree with other posts that viewship will be lost as a result of this reckless decision.
That f'up they way it was "leaked" and played out into the press. I can fully understand why Star Jones did what she did at The View. They wouldn't have done Matt like that. They should have at least gave her the courtesey(sp) of informing her in a confiedentail meeting first, then making the announcement.
Ann Curry is a fabulous anchor. I thought she should have been promoted when NBC brought in Viera instead. She is a serious news woman who can still convey caring and empathy. She lights up the small screen. She will be very much missed by me on the Today Show.
I REALLY like Ann Curry. SHE is why I watched "Today." I think she was run off due to Matt! His head had gotten WAY TOO BIG, so I'll NOT watch it ANYMORE! GOOD MORNING, America!
Ann Curry was never a good fit for the anchor seat. Her interviewing style is much better suited for the longer stories. Her studio interviews were terrible – she only wanted to hear herself talk, and her overly-empathetic persona overwhelmed the interview.
You are one of a very few that feel this way.
Maybe she will be in charge of making sure we dont Matt Lauer in the Where in the world is Matt Lauer? annual barf fest.–sorry, i am not angry at him and hes okay. i just hate NBC for what they did to their sinking network.
Ann has class all ways did. Couric couldn't walk in her shoes.
What baffles me is why Curry - a serious journalist - would want to be co-anchor of such a fluffy, shallow show. Still, NBC treated her very shabbily, and I hope she'll find a better employer.
You are right. Good call.
It's pretty easy to due all the things she said she accomplished with a full production /medical staff traveling with you. All she had to do is show up. Obviously, she couldn't "Cut the mustard".
Too bad. Sh's a good looking head. Matt Lauer is a hack – they should fire his bad self.
Ann Curry is a class act. She will be greatly missed. NBC should be ashamed of the way they have treated her. I predict that The Today Show will lose many viewers as a result of this move - and plenty of ad revenue as well. NBC will learn the error of its ways too late. At least she will still be doing the type of reporting she loves to do. She is a true professional.
I could not agree more. She was the best that show had to offer the rest was vacuous happy talk .
Agree – they should be ashamed. I do think she's better at hard news not this junk that they put on every morning. They've lost marketshare because they air nothing but fluff. And to see "Dr. Nancy" do the stuff they have her doing now - it's just pathetic. They need to look a little higher up in that pecking order for the real ball-dropper. Won't be watching this program any longer – this was the last straw. I'll miss you Al!
I loved your response! She is such a classy and talented lady.
