Should 'The Killing' get another season?

Have Linden and Holder solved their first and last case? If the ratings from the two-part season finale are any indication, our detectives might be looking elsewhere to find employment.

Still reeling from their disappointing season 1 finale, the team behind “The Killing” seemed to regain their stride toward the end of season 2, but the numbers tell a different story.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the second part of the show’s finale had an audience of 1.4 million, which went up to 1.9 million with the encore. Overall, that's a 22 percent drop from the first part of the finale the week before, and a 39 percent dip from last season’s frustratingly confusing ending.

In an interview with EW, actress Jamie Anne Allman -  a.k.a Aunt Terry the killer - was optimistic about “The Killing” coming back for a third season.

“They have a whole other crime idea set up and in place,” Allman said. “It should be exciting. And Mireille Enos (Linden) and Joel Kinnaman (Holder) are such an amazing pair. They have great chemistry.”

But even a great on-screen pairing couldn’t save “The Killing” in the eyes of one Gawker critic, who dubbed it a failure.

But others, like CNN commenter Barbara, are definitely #TeamKilling. “Loved this show from the beginning to the end. Really loved that it wasn't all slicked up. The writing was great as were the actors. I thought the finale was VERY satisfying. Would love to see a 3rd season.”

Would you watch another season of “The Killing”?

YES, YES, and YES!!!! The actress who plays Linden is one of the MOST MESMERIZING ACTRESSES I have seen in any weekly mystery. She is compelling, her moody character is amazing and I'm totally impressed. I love the show, the characters, the not being able to wait for the next show. I totally dig Holder – who works amazingly well with Linden and they make a great pair. If these were real detectives out there doing their job they do a hell of a great take on it, including the political b.s. that really happens in a precinct. Loved both seasons – and leave the politics out of it viewers!! It's TV for crying out loud.....!!!!!

The writing and acting is fantastic. The plot twists made it a show that you wouldn't want to miss from week-to-week. Please bring it back.

Great Show! Best acting on TV. AMC needs to have faith and let the show's following build. It takes people time to catch on to a show this new and different. I loved it! Season 3? Yes please!

Please don't take off another fantastic show. Anytime something real and gritty comes on it never lasts. This show was intelligent and kept you guessing at the edge of your seat. What is wrong with people today all the want is these stupid "reality" shows which aern't real at all!!! Sorry, they are all scripted!

The Killing was the best "uggh it's Sunday I have to work tomorrow" show ever. It was so nice and dreary in the rainy Seattle cityscape with all these people trying to manage their screwed up situations. Most people don't realize the value of a "feel bad" show. This was one of the best. It will be a tough sell getting it back because execs won't really get that, but AMC has a history of sticking to their guns when it comes to quality. That being said, Rubicon disappeared pretty quickly.

It is hard to watch a show you love and next thing you know they are talking about canceling the show. It all comes down to money once again. I think there are still some unanswered questions. I guess I will never get a chance to find out. Love you AMC.

I never comment on these forums but had to this time. The Killing is one of the best shows on TV. Seems to me that if a show makes the audience think it's too much for the general public. Great acting, Sorkin like dialogue, great plot-what's not to like.

I agree completely. It is hard to believe that so much formulaic, mindless, predictable drivel runs for years, yet show like this that is – dare I say – based in STORY, has complex and interesting characters, challenges our own belief systems and judgements, is in danger of being cut. I love this show. How do we keep it on the air?

Yes! I hope AMC renews this show. The Killing is one of the most thought-provoking and captivating shows I've ever seen. It's a shame that there are haters out there who would rather sit like blobs in front of the TV and "be entertained" by some reality garbage than watch something that requires brain power. Hopefully enough fans rally together to get this show renewed.

@Matt I have to admit that I fast fowarded a lot of the boring scenes because I was anxious to get back to the action, and obviously missed the reveal of Terry and Ames affair.

Another point on the writing: It is a very effective device to cut-off a scene just before the end of a conversation where one of the characters is about to say something significant - and leave the viewer guessing. The Killing used that device a lot - too much, in fact - it was over-reliance to the point that it became predictable.

@Chantal Not the worst show, but agree re lameness of ending and red herrings and bouncing around interminably.

The only 3 shows I watched on TV was The Killing, Madmen and Game of Thrones. I loved the characters on the Killing especially the 2 leads. I bought the first season and will buy the second season. I hope the Killing is not cancelled. I only have rave reviews for the show. It was like reading a good book that you never want to put down. Please do not cancel this show. Maybe if it was in HBO it would have gotten more viewers. I hear one of the satellite providers is canceling AMC. That network could have been the reason why it did not garner the viewers it should have.

Loved The Killing. We need another season because Councilman Richmond, now Mayor Richamond, needs to answer some questions as to why he now has a deal with Chef Jackson? And why Gwen Eaton was shut out of the meeting.
Too many loose ends. Ames is also guilty as he did nothing to help get Rosie out of the sunken car. There is alot of information to use for another season.

Here are some of the negatives on the Killing. The writing was awkward for a couple of reasons. First, certain scenes (anything to do with Stan's family or Sarah's family) were designed to add emotional content to the story, but did nothing to advance the solving of the basic mystery. As a result those scenes were always plodding and predictable. A masterful writer BLENDS emotional content and development into PLOT DRIVING scenes.
Second, there was way too much soul searching and scenery chewing by Darren Richardson.
Third, the reveal at the finale as to the affair between Terry and Ames came out of nowhere and was totally gratuitous. If you're going to make that your bombshell, you better weave some threads of it into the plot development.
Some of the positives include great chemistry between the two detectives Sarah and Holden. Also the scenery and photography were outstanding.

Um, the affair between Terry and Ames was actually revealed about midway through the second season (if not earlier), so I don't think that's a fair criticism. I thought the twist in the season finale was pretty brilliant - in fact, my favorite thing about this show (other than Enos and Kinneman) was that the writers clearly took pains to ensure that
every plot twist made sense based on what we already knew about the story and/or the characters; they almost never completely hid the ball, which I appreciate. I would definitely watch a third season. There are better shows on television, but not many.

I loved the two detectives. They're like Fox and Muldar on X-Files. Great chemistry. But I didn't like Stan and his wife much and they would really have to ramp up the story line to make this show sizzle. But I hope they get another go-round.

The acting was excellent and the two leads were extraordinary – but if they're going to continue to screw with the
audience as they did last year, they should be banished. Say what you will about audiences, their lack of brains, etc. – but there is a bit of an unspoken "bond" between a show and its audience.
True, they never SAID it would be wrapped up at the end, but to not do so was a serious violation. And then AMC
couldn't understand what all the fuss was about?? Please.
This is an issue that started w/TWIN PEAKS (audiences expecting it would all be wrapped up and make sense), continued with THE X-FILES and perpetuated with LOST. Even when the creators claimed they knew where they were
going and it all made sense - in the end, many were dissatisfied.
All the "ends" WERE tied up with THE KILLING – but I feel the audience felt violated in that they were TOLD it wasn't going to be resolved.
And while REAL murders may not be wrapped up in time for the end credits and commercials, it IS a TV show...and its
purpose like all others is to sell soap. THE KILLING sold a lot less soap in its second season, and only had itself to blame.
But bring it back if it focuses on one crime and we know when it will be wrapped up.

"Serious violation"? Is there a TV law they violated? TV Police to report this "violation" to? I liked the ending to Part I, and it made me look forward to Part II.

It's a TV show-an excellent one, in my opinion--but JUST a TV show and shouldn't be taken so seriously.

I discovered this show by accident and found it much more gripping than "Madmen". I'm a flight attendant and happened to have Joel Kinnaman, (Holder) on my flight going to Vancouver one Sunday. Kinnaman is a well known Swedish actor, and is much better looking in person. I expressed that I was a big fan of "The Killing", and he seemed very surprised that anyone even recognized him. In real life, a very charming and modest man. By the way I lived in Seattle for 33 yrs. and it really does rain that much.

No. The show is well written and acted but overall the case has been solved AFTER 2 years. US shows need to look at how the British do a vast majority of their serial drams with an end game in sight. Yes, it's all about dollars here but when you look at how the writers dragged it out over 2 seasons, and EVERY cast member being THE suspect, of course, fans would be tired and no longer interested in the set up.

THE KILLING lost everyone when they returned and in episode one the killer wasn't revealed... even if the reason was dragged to the final episode of season 2, fans deserved more than they got from this show. Leave on a high note.

Appreciate the fairly clear view of the what some families have had to go through, with the violent loss of a child. The american spin on this show is rubbish compared to the original. The show was first written and made in denmark, then bought by fox and twisted a tiny bit to their satisfaction. (By the way, the original did not have people in a furry over the last episode in season 1 where the killer was actually found). And if they stay somewhat true to the original (and then add their own idiotic twists) there is already an idea for coming seasons...cause well, they have already been written, shot and shown in denmark and all the other countries who watched the original instead of a butchered crappier version from Fox.

No! This was the worst finale, second season, whatever you want to call it, ever. The show tried to be another Twin Peaks, but failed miserably. Linden has to be the worst detective ever. Living by the arresting and/or accusing people of being the killer until you eventually get it right handbook was her M.O. I'm glad I wasn't in that fictional town, I might have been arrested because, I passed Rosie on the street the same day she was killed. And that does not make for a good mystery, whodunit or detective story in my book. Let "The Killing" die! Even though it's a bad death, let it die. As for the character Linden frustrated me by constantly neglecting her son. As a mother and an officer of the law she was committing child abuse. I'm glad she finally woke up and sent her son to be with his dad. Now Holder on the other hand, as the jive talking, sounding like a wanna be brutha, chain smoking, ex-drug addict, cigarette pusher, bad judge of character, in love with Linden, wannabe bad ass detective, I liked. NO! Worst show! The ridiculous time line Richmond gets shot near death and he recovers within a week! Whats her names gets mad moves to DC gets a job and decide to come back to help Richmond it was like 2 days, Holder has broken ribs and walks and moves like nothing happen to him I could go on and on... then the red herrings!! sure you want to keep your fans in suspense but it bounce so all over the place with no satisfying stories. The season ending was lame!! why would Terry pushed that car knowing someone was in there because he would not leave his wife!!?? if anything she could have gotten mad and slam her car into the other car's trunk & killed Rosie that way... but NO they went with lame lovers quarrell's temporary insanity – UHG!! ( My husband and I only watched it because the first few episodes were very good and then we were too invested in it but if they do renew? We are NOT watching it!!!!

LOVED the show, PLEASE bring it back. In the current world of reality show upon reality show, and best singer/dancer/whatever, at last there is an interesting, well produced, well acted show that's worth watching. I can't believe the shows that get to be on season after season when others that actually have a bit of grit to them don't. Please don't let this be one of those shows.

Yes, yes, yes!! Every episode I thought it was someone else who killed Rosie Larson. Loved this show and all the characters. Bring it back before Holder and Linden are snapped up by another show. They are too good to just sit around and wait.

Loved the Killing – both episodes because the acting was fantastic. I believe the only people who should have negative comments are those living in Seattle – who would visit that place with all that rain!

I think the Killing has been one of the very best shows on tv/cable for the last several years. The story was gripping, the characters really believable and the ending unpredictable. A real surprise! I would love to see more
of the characters doing their job so well. It seems that the new Mayor will be a character rich in intrigue and hidden
character "flaws". Rosies's family should move on – maybe Aunt Terri could be a character for compassion later on.
Anyway – BRAVO BRAVO, let's see some more.

Very intelligent comment. I am a republican and people like you are convincing me to switch parties.
Great show. Probably too complicated for you which I guess means it's liberal crap!
