'Call Me Maybe' makes it to No. 1 on Hot 100

Now that Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" has been permanently etched in our brains, the single's now also taken over the top spot on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.

Jepsen's catchy single (and possible song of the summer) dethroned Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know," making Jepsen the first lead songstress to take her first Hot 100 song entry all the way to No. 1 since Ke$ha did the same with "Tik Tok" at the start of 2010.

It's a little surprising that it took "Call Me Maybe" some time to make its ascent on the Hot 100, seeing that it's been in rotation for months, and that's just Stateside. Our Canadian pals made "Call Me Maybe" a No. 1 single in February.

Gotye is still riding high at No. 2 with "Somebody that I Used to Know," with Maroon 5's "Payphone" at No. 3 and fun.'s "We Are Young" at No. 4.

Adele, meanwhile, has notched her 24th week at No. 1  on the Billboard 200 albums chart with "21."

Carly Rae Jepsen won't be returning any more calls from the Boy Scouts.Last summer's breakout singing star has canceled her scheduled appearance at this July's Boy Scouts of America Jamboree, citing the organization's controversial ban on gay members. "

I have been hearing this call me maybe song for a week now. I can't stand it. It doesn't take a brain to think of the lyrics in this pop tune. She keeps repeating the same thing over and over again. It really does bug me so when it comes on I change the station. Thanks to Justin Bieber it's number 1 yay! lol If he didn't endorse it, I really don't think it would be a hit. It is nervewracking. Then she is 26 years old singing a teenybopper song. I thought she was about 18 singing this...no 26? What's with that? No wonder she was eliminated in the Canadian Idol. Third runner up. Take her fricking voice off the radio please!!! At least Niki Minaj puts on a show!

wahhhh. music today just doesnt MEAN anything. waaaaah. go put some black eyeshadow, lipstick and nailpolish on and breack down harder and cry about it, foghart...

music doesnt have to have meaning. it's just sounds that when put together inspire you to tap your foot or scream at the top of your lungs while driving 90 mph down the highway with the top down. 'meaningful' lyrics arent required for either of these two activities.

The good thing about this young lady is she wrote the song. She will be getting paid off of that song for a long time, even when other people record it. Good for her. I am pretty sure the record companies don't see to it that these young singers get money for a life time. Hope she writes more hits for herself or others.

If you all want good music - SUMMER Music . . . You know, the stuff you're supposed to dance to - check out the European Charts. From France to Germany to Italy to Club hits, etc., etc....Check them ALL out. Per chart, go through all the songs that seem, well, foreign to you and listen to them on YouTube.

Europe is way ahead of this country when it comes to "Good" music. Everything on Billboard is mere checkup for me. I check what's new. Check the songs out on YouTube. Most suck. Then I go check out the European charts. I have found myself in a trance to all the many good songs produced over many different genres of many different countries. Amazing what those Europeans are producing, I tell ya! Highly recommend you check it out. I've already found my song for Summer, and let me tell you all . . . . . . . It ain't this sh**!

To Ibod: you are a dumb-ass. Both European and American popular music sucks. There is good music out there, of course, but it's not like the top 40 music European music is any better than American music. Just as bad.

Only reason liberal media is pushing this song so hard to be the 'song of the summer' is because the video is about a gay man.

what the heck this video is good and the song is good has nothing to do with the gay man in it. Grow up. Who cares whos gay and who is not.

I am not denying that music from the past was great and wonderful...but it's in the past and it is time to move forwards. The Beatles were great, Madonna was great, Elvis Presley was great...but can we please allow the newer generations to have something to identify with? No one can deny the greatness of the old performers but there might be some good ones now too. We cannot be so close minded. Music is constantly evolving. We may not agree with the evolution, but it is evolving nonetheless. Imagine what the world would be like today if we had not moved beyond Mozart? Allow the kids from today to have something that they can call their own. Our parents didn't agree with The Beatles either. And Elvis Presley was "too scandalous". We don't know how far these kids will go with their music. Let's give them a chance.

I'm sure Carly's growing bank account, fame, world traveling, accolades, and making history with a number 1 song – on top of doing what she loves – is making her second her career choice. My point? She is a singer, clearly an array of people like the song, and it is a music like it or not. Music is subjective. Why all the hate? I know, I know blah blah blah Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Billy Joel, U2, Nirvana now THOSE are ... oh please.

I know you're american and all but saying a word is not in the English language by using "aren't" another word that is not in the English language would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

Agreed. She was not discovered by Justin Beiber. She was one of the three finalists on Canadian Idol in 2007, and had another song in Canada called "Bucket" from her first album in 2008 which received pretty good airplay north of the border. Justin just had the foresight to get her signed to the record label owned by his manager.

This is what you call music? How did this song hit #1? Are we that blind, chances are she has some body writing her lyrics. She will "trade her soul for a wish" is the message you want you kids to hear.. Today's youth is truly being brainwashed by this song. It's a shame..she is just the industry's little slave, there'll use her for all she is worth, and dispose of her until she can't make them any money.
