Ahead of the curve: Weekly pop culture calendar

After a very dramatic end last season, "Burn Notice" fans are gearing up for an epic premiere. (Spoilers below!)

Last time, Michael helplessly watched Fiona, the love of his life, turn herself in to the police. The sixth season picks up as we see Michael going after Anson, the man who burned him, and getting Fiona out, before it all takes a toll on him. Catch the premiere this Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on USA.

Here's what else you shouldn't miss this week:


  • Disney's "Newsies" goes head-to-head against the indie hit "Once" at the Tony Awards this Sunday. Hosted for the third time by the charming Neil Patrick Harris, the show will air at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
  • Catch the season 1 finale of "Veep" at 10 p.m. ET on HBO, where an Ohio candidate balks at Selina's endorsement.
  • And before that, the fifth season of "True Blood" will premiere on HBO at 9 p.m. ET.


  • The final round of auditions takes place on "MasterChef," where the final 36 compete to earn a spot in the Top 18. Catch this episode at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.


  • Watch "Love in the Wild," where singles try to find love through a series of challenges , at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
  • If you've been blown away by Patti Smith's return album "Banga," then watch her perform on the "Late Show with David Letterman" at 11:35 p.m. ET on CBS.
  • For those of you eager to own the complete series, you can now pre-order the box set of the "Fifty Shades of Grey" trilogy. Other books coming out this week include: "Mission to Paris" by Alan Furst; "Porch Lights" by Dorothea Benton Frank; "Not Taco Bell Material" by Adam Carolla; and "The Red House" by Mark Haddon.
  • Movies coming to DVD and Blu-ray include: "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows"; "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance"; "Entourage: The Complete Eight and Final Season"; "Tyler Perry's Good Deeds"; "Scandal: The Complete First Season"; "Too Big To Fail"; and "A Little Bit of Heaven."
  • Music albums being released this week include: "Clockwork Angels" by Rush;"Ashes & Roses" by Mary Chapin Carpenter; "The Lion The Beast The Beat" by Grace Potter & the Nocturnals'; "Looking 4 Myself" by Usher; "Punching Bag" by Josh Turner; and "Blow Your Pants Off" by Jimmy Fallon.


  • Catch a new episode of "So You Think You Can Dance" at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
  • The Ewings are back with fresh secrets, backstabbing and betrayal tonight on TNT at 9 p.m. ET.
  • Then at 9:30 pm. ET, catch a new episode of "Duets," where the professionals and amateurs perform party songs, on ABC.


  • Thursday is the tw0-hour-block of dating and love on Fox. Watch "Take Me Out" at 8 p.m. ET, followed by "The Choice" at 9 p.m. ET.
  • If "The Choice" isn't your thing, then check out the second episode of new series "Saving Hope," a medical drama series, at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.


  • Catch the season 2 finale of "Fairly Legal" at 9 p.m. ET on USA, where Kate uncovers a scandal involving the DA and must choose between Justin and Ben.
  • Movies coming to theaters this week include: "Rock of Ages," with Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin and Catherine Zeta-Jones; "That's My Boy," with Andy Samberg (in his first post-"SNL" role) and Adam Sandler; "The Woman in the Fifth"; and "Your Sister's Sister," with Emily Blunt, Rosemarie DeWitt and Mark Duplass.

    I'm so happy that Burn Notice will be back on this week. It is a really good show. It has a great cast, great characters, great writing. Looking forward to watching on Thursday.
