Sex Pistols re-release 'God Save the Queen'

We wonder how the palace feels about this.

On Monday, the Sex Pistols re-released a limited edition, remastered 7-inch vinyl record of "God Save the Queen," according to their website. Apparently the last time the song hit the airwaves, it was not a royal time for the iconic punk band.

"It will be exactly 35 years and a day after it was first released, in a barrage of controversy the likes of which the U.K. had rarely seen," a description on the website said. "No one had ever dared question the Monarchy so publicly; and it wasn't without its repercussions. Members of the band were attacked in the streets; and Government Members of Parliament even called for the Pistols to be hung at Traitors' Gate."

The song was released in 1977 during Queen Elizabeth's Silver jubilee. The flip side of this limited vinyl release is a remastered version of the song "Did You No Wrong."

I love reading all this hate. The fact that this band is being Talked about 35 years after the release just goes to show you something and how talentless any of the bands any of you listen to are if you can't even acknowledge the respect they deserve.

I was heavily into punk music as a teenager, and I never cared for the Pistols. It wasn't that I thought that they sucked, I just thought that they seemed to be for British working class kids and not suburban American kids. An American kid isn't going to get too riled up over a song denegrating the Queen of England. Still, I like how they got under everyones skin over there.

didn't it and the group suck enough the first time around? the only thing they did for the music world was encourage other talent less losers to try and make it and to make putting safety pins in your face a fashion statement.

What, vs. the talentless loser metalheads who are incapable of writing lyrics beyond an 8th grade level, and make faces like they are straining to take a dump?
At least the Pistols sounded good, where I can't think of a single metal band past Motorhead that was worth listening to...especially that 80's poofy hair garbage.

LOL good to see the Pistols haven't changed, and are still mostly alive – unlike the Ramones. They can't play their music and they can't sing but that's sort of the point – they aim to be offensive and against everything like the futurists and dadaists of the 1920s. Their lyrics – despite some of the gratuitously offensive content – are actually quite brilliant though.

Come on guys, the Pistols brought Punk to the UK. Good? They weren't supposed to be good ... it's punk. Mainstream? Hardly, within the context of the times. The Clash maybe, but not the Pistols when they became the Pistols. Very influential. Love the song

Actually he is quite well off from all the real estate he bought in the late 80's. In addition his wife is a heiress to a huge German publishing company. In all likelihood it was probably just a chance to recreate the riverboat incident at the Queen's last Juiblee.

Sid Vicious didn't play on this song, nor the entire album. Their original bassist, Glen Matlock is pictured here. Glen's bass lines carried the Pistol's music and their career nose-dived when he was kicked out and replaced by Sid, who was hardly a musician and all image. In fact, his name was irony for his being such a wuss.

Actually, David, look who spent their last few months of life either in jail or a drug induced haze followed by ODing themselves to death versus who is celebrating 60 years on the throne this year.....someone lived far longer than Sid. Loved their music, but their his lifestyle certainly caught up to him, didn't it?

ACTUALLY, Sid was so fu**ed up most the time the band admitted pulling the plug off his bass because he couldn't remember the songs and kept butchering them

Their manager Malcom McLaren formed the Pistols when the Ramones refused to let him be their manager. McLaren left New York, went back to England and put together the Pistols. They were manufactured like the Monkees. The Ramones were the first true punk band, after Iggy and the Stooges.
