Kanye leads BET Awards nominations with seven

This year's BET Awards will pass the mic to “Avengers” star Samuel L. Jackson, who's been tapped to host the July ceremony.

The highest-grossing movie actor of all time will likely share the stage at various points with another big star, Kanye West, who is up for the most nominations at this year’s show.

The rapper/burgeoning reality star has received seven nods, while his “Watch the Throne” partner Jay-Z has received five.

Keeping it in the family, Beyonce scored six nominations of her own, with two of the nods being for “Video of the Year," putting “Countdown” and “Love on Top” in the running.

Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj are in the first wave of performers that have been announced, though many more are coming, per the network.

Also up for awards this year are Rihanna and Mary J. Blige, who are both nominated for Best Female R&B Artist, as well as Chris Breezy and Usher in the Best Male R&B Artist category.

The BET Awards will air live July 1 at 8 p.m. ET from L.A.'s Shrine Auditorium. For a full list of nominees, visit BET.com.

I guess the world still likes it's talentless hacks. With all the great black singers and entertainers out there this is just a total travesty. It just goes to show that the BET awards, just like the MTV awards and Grammy's are nothing more than a flavor of the month/popularity contest that has nothing to do with actual talent. This is why I tend to ignore any music related award shows altogether.

Heck no. If we did, all us white people would be called racists by the Blacks. Cause you know how they love to play the racism issue.. Same reason we can have a Black History Month, but not a white history Month. And why is it ok that blacks can take to the street and march for their race, but if whites do it we are called racists and KKK Members.
