Lifetime picks up Houston family reality show

If you've wondered how Whitney Houston's loved ones are coping with her recent death, Lifetime's going to show you: The network's picked up 10, hour-long episodes of a docu-series following members of Houston's family.

Tentatively called "The Houston Family Chronicles," the show will feature Whitney's daughter, Bobbi Kristina; the late entertainer's mother Cissy; her brother Gary and his wife Pat Houston, who was also Whitney's manager; and the couple's teen daughter, Rayah.

According to a statement from Lifetime, "The Houston Family Chronicles" will follow "Pat and her husband ...  as they take on their greatest challenge, supporting and guiding Bobbi Kristina as she faces the world alone, without the one person she relied on the most, her mother."

Pat Houston added in the statement that she's been working to develop a project "over the past few years" that would be "suitable for me and my family."

Whitney Houston's unexpected death in February, she said, "certainly affects the direction of the show. However, it is my hope that others will be enlightened as they watch our family heal and move forward.”

From the network's description, it sounds like one primary storyline will focus on Bobbi Kristina's recuperation after such a heartbreaking loss, with Pat Houston assisting her in finding her way. The statement says Pat will tap CeCe Winans and Dionne Warwick to help her guide Bobbi Kristina as she moves forward with life.

Lifetime's executive vice president of programming, Rob Sharenow, said that in "The Houston Family Chronicles," "multi‐generations of the Houston family will bravely reveal their lives as they bond together to heal, love, and grow.”

The series is expected to debut on Lifetime sometime this year.

Lifetime hardly seems the place for this dysfunctional bunch. I LOVED Whitney, that voice will never be equaled. But after watching the reality show it wasn't hard to see how Whitney was enabled not mention how many family members\friends still struggling with drugs. I have never seen so many people in so much denial making so many excuses. Pat seems to have a personal agenda and her dealings with Bobbie, who is obviously high most of the time, are rediculous. Dionne is a flake, sorry, but she is and cranky one. I realize Whitney was hard to tame & had been into drugs long before she met Brown but someone in that entourage should have kept a closer on Whitney. They will enable Bobbie now unless she finds a new refuge. But why should she when Pat looks the other way. I love CeCe and this must be very frustrating for her. She knows only GOD can heal up these wounds.

does this have to be a reality show? how is a reality show supposed to help a young lady who seemingly has her own struggles? couldn't they as a family bind together and help her versus putting their help on display? shame on you pat and gary. this is so sad

Most blacks are like like that. GREEDY. Like the Jacksons, trying to make money off of their dead drug-addicted son, brother, father......And here, the Houstons, trying to make money off their drug-addicted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, etc.

The only thing worse than than the people who agreed to be part, are the the people excited to see this. "Too Soon" comes to mind. Lets shoot some tape....and see where things go...and then after a year has passed if there's actually a story in here, they can air it. I mean if they're really that desperate for money or attention i feel bad for them ( in different ways depending on the need), but if they somehow were convinced this was the right way to keep Whitney's legacy alive they should stay away from anyone trying to sell them a bridge

The way Pat talks a show was in the works before Whitney died. The honorable thing to do would be to cancel it. Instead the show will highlight Pat as she guides motherless Bobbi K "Pat will tap CeCe Winans and Dionne Warwick to help her guide Bobbi Kristina as she moves forward with life" If Pat's first guidance to Bobbi K is to get her private life splattered across the TV screens, its gonna be another trainwreck. Whitney fought for privacy. What a shameful bunch. Sounds like it should be called All About Pat.

I am sorry, i find this to be disgusting and classless. This is not "honoring" Whitney or her family. This is a ploy for ratings and money and its sick to see someone create a show based off this and confusing to why the family would do this, even for money. Read the story plot "The Houston Family Chronicles" will follow "Pat and her husband ... as they take on their greatest challenge, supporting and guiding Bobbi Kristina as she faces the world alone, without the one person she relied on the most, her mother."

that is so dramatic and sickening to use that wording like its a Lord of The Rings movie. 10 episodes, 1 hour long, 10 hours of her life aired from im sure (hundreds of hours collected) but granted that could be a few weeks in her life if that. You are not truly capturing what she is going to go through completely. You are capturing a glimpse and exploiting it. Big fail in my opinion. Classless

How about trying to build a relationship with her father, even though Bobby Brown isn't the best person to deal with. She sounds like the Latoya Jackson of the Houston family. Woe is me I'm the one no one paid attention to until the famous one died. Please. I understand that Bobbi K is suffering right now but she doesnt need guidance from these people any more than she needs the reality show. I know people didnt care much for Whitney in the last few years of her life but I was always a fan. By the way. Pat Houston says shes been working (used loosely) to develop a project "suitable for me and my family". Can she make money off Whitneys death? Can she do this with very little effort? Then yes of course she will find it suitable! This family will milk Whitneys memory for all its worth. I mean seriously theae people need to find real jobs. If Pat has her way shell be living off Bobbi K. just like she did her mom. I really think that Bobbi needs to have a trust if she doesnt already and an attorney to look over it, one that can also help her invest wisely. I would hope that she opens her eyes and sees what mooching blood suckers some of her family is. That child been through enough already and does not need any more grief. I mean where was all this family when Whitney was spiraling out of control? Heck they probably were her dealers for all I know. They put no real effort into helping Whitney, not as long as they could keep milking her for every last penny. No wonder Whitney was in such a low place. God rest her soul. R.I.P

Lets admit it. Whitney in the end could not sing. She sounded like a duck choking on a big fat c o c k. She was a drunk and a cokehead. The remake of a great film Sparkle should not have been made.. But everyone will lie and proclaim how great she is in it when in fact she even blew as an actor. Typical behavior from people always expecting a handout and who would steal from anyone.

Whitney had onenof the most amazing voices. She could even act. All this when she was clean. I agree, after drugs ruined her life her voice sucked and her acting was pathetic. One other thing that picture that was published of Whitney in her coffin was awful. (Awful that someone could be that distasteful and cruel hearted.) But it is weird that the family found out who did it and chose not to prosecute the person. That goes to prove that it had to be a family member. I do believe that Pat was somehow involved in that. And I could be wrong but I believe that if it had not been family they would have sued the person that did it so fast that there head would spin. Instead it was hushed up pretty fast and swept under the rug. One other thing if you look at the last pictures that were taken of Whitney when she was being taken out of that club the MEAN look on Pat's face speaks volumes.

This seems a little fishy to me. Whitney made how many calls that day and sent someone to get Pat because she needed to talk to her or needed her for some reason and the womann does not show up until after she has passed away. Poor Whitney pretty much paid for everything that Pat and her family has and she paid for alot of things when she was married to Bobby Brown. It seems that everyone took and took from her and all they seemed to provide her with was the drugs that she wanted to keep her going so she would keep making the money. Bobby Brown has taken alot of heat people saying that he got her hooked but I have to say I believed what he said during his interview with Matt Laurer. I think he was honest because he owned up to what he had done just like Whitney owned up to what she done in both Diane Sawyer interview (in which she seemed high them). She also owned up to the same during the Oprah interview except she seemed a little less out of it. Oprah took alot of flack for doing the interview with Bobbi Kristina and Pat but they agreed to it. I think that this Lifetime show is a train wreck and Lifetime is giving money to people whom in my opinion need to get real jobs and stop trying to profit off of Whitney. With the exception of her Mama and her Child. I hope that Whitney's Mama is the one that guides Bobbi Kristina and that this child listens. She needs to surround herself with good possitive people who want her to go to college and stay off drugs and succeed. Not pick up making them money where her Mama left off and I think the person to do that is her Grams and in time if her father stays clean and can prove that to her maybe they will mend fences. She will probably have a hard time trusting and believing him at first because her Mama fooled (or so they say) people into thinking she was clean. May Whitney be able to RIP and may Bobbi and her Grams grow closer and help each other through the hard times. This will be her first Mothers Day without her Mama and Cissy without her baby. God Bless them Both!

@1963...That is a terrible thing to say. Whitney may have had addiction problems but to say she sould be forgotten because of them is cruel. No matter what she did she was someones mother and daughter. If you have children and they had addictions, would you ever feel they deserve to be forgotten? Heck no because you love them. Well Whitney too has loved ones that miss her dearly. Addiction is a disease and very difficult to over come. At least she owned up to her mistakes, also difficult thing to do. Whitney was a very talented person who lost control over her life. She died because of that very fact. She paid the ultimate price, isnt that punishment enough? R.I.P Whitney.

And she has been glorified for dying. Sorry I do not feel sorry for her. Yes, she was amazingly talented but she wasted her talent. As far as owning up to her mistakes, I think that is sheer hogwash. She was drunk and stoned at the time of her death. She did it to herself, plain and simple. She is not someone to be put up as a role model or anything of the sort. But just because she is dead does NOT mean we have to make her into anything more than another addict who killed themselves. I am sick and tired of all these celebrities, athletes and the like getting themselves strung out on booze or drugs and playing the "poor, poor pitiful me" card. Whitney Houston is no different than "Joe the addict" whose addiction killed him and I certainly will not make her into some sort of saint because she is dead.

I bet you waive a Confederate flag and want to remember the old south. Funny how the decision on what or even whether to remember varies by person who has left us. Go play your Elvis greatest hits...

    • cbiagi1963

Funny Antonio I made no references to Houston's race in my remarks, but you instantly jump to the conclusion I am brandishing a flag that has long been inaccurately classified as the flag of what at the time was called the Confederate States of America, and that I am sitting around listening to Elvis Presley. First off no, I do not sit around pining away for days gone by, that is an utterly useless exercise that gets you no where. In regards to listening to Elvis, like Houston I have owned none of either of their records. Elvis, like Houston was a musical talent... and we can throw the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Janice Jopin... but their drug use killed them. Now I won't bother turning a radio station they are playing on but I do not canonize them because they are dead. Actor John Belushi had the world on his plate when he allowed drugs to kill him. If you want to step over to the world of sports I will mention simply Len Bias. They ALL made the conscious decision to get into drugs, and regardless their race, their age, etc. they all ended up as worm food as a result of the decision they made. Like it or not that is the truth. And yes even though he had a doctor injecting him Michael Jackson was an addict and he directly contributed to his own death. Sorry folks I am all out of sympathy.

There are too many celebrities who have died in truly tragic ways from plane crashes to being murdered. Tragic athletic deaths like Hank Gathers from a heart defect. Actors who died in all sorts of ways. Them I can have sympathy for and do. But those who drugged their way to death, they did it to themselves.
