Lifetime casts Rob Lowe in Casey Anthony movie

Lifetime has snapped up both Rob Lowe and Jewel to star in two of its upcoming films.

The network has brought on Lowe for their made-for-TV film about infamous mom (or "Tot Mom," if you're Nancy Grace) Casey Anthony. The "Parks and Recreation" actor will portray Florida prosecutor Jeff Ashton in “Prosecuting Casey Anthony,” the film’s tentative title.

The Casey Anthony trial riveted the nation last year, when Anthony was ultimately acquitted of murder charges related to the death of Caylee, her 2-year-old daughter.

Lowe is no stranger to doing films based on true stories for Lifetime: In January he played Drew Peterson - a former cop who has been charged in connection with the death of his third wife - in “Drew Peterson: Untouchable.”

“We’re thrilled to have Rob returning to our network, after his amazing star turn as Drew Peterson,” Rob Sharenow, executive vice president of programming at Lifetime Networks, said in a statement. “He’s one of those rare stars who can do it all, comedy, drama, heroes and villains. There are very few actors in the history of our business who have been able to have such success on such a broad range."

Meanwhile Jewel is poised to make her small-screen debut as country music star June Carter Cash.

Yahoo! reports the singer will star opposite “American Horror Story" actor Matt Ross, who’ll play her husband Johnny Cash.

The pending film is reportedly based on a memoir written by June's son John Carter Cash.

It's expected to shine a spotlight on June's rise to fame along with her family before she went solo, doing shows with legends like Elvis Presley.

It will also explore the Grammy Award winner’s often tumultuous life with her famous husband.

“Many people know about the legendary love story of Johnny and June,” said Sharenow. “But June Carter Cash has her own epic journey filled with triumphs, tragedies, loves and losses. This movie will explore all aspects of the woman behind the icon, and we’re thrilled Jewel will be playing the title role."

Casey Anthony is objecting to a proposal that she sell her life story as part of her bankruptcy. Her attorneys filed a motion this week in federal bankruptcy court in Tampa asking a judge to reject the proposal.*

You know why almost every single actor (males, more so than females) are here today,/gone tomorrow types...totally immemorable? No distinctive voices whatsoever. Everyone knows the voices of John Wayne, James Stewart, Robert Duval, James Cagney, Andy Griffith, James Earl Jones, Gregory Peck, Groucho Marx, Lee Marvin, Telly Savalas, Morgan Freeman, etc, etc, etc...but the current crop??? a lot of nobodies..making millions, but here today, gone tomorrow.

Why would anyone want to see a movie about Casey Anthony. We won't learn anything new about her. We know she's a liar and a murderer. Why put money in her pocket for a crime she committed. I'm sure she loves all this attention. Let's just leave her in the past.

Casey will not get anything from this lifetime movie. Its base on the book Jeff Ashton wrote. Its from his point of view. I can't wait until it airs.

No, Madchen Amick looks nothing like monster mom. MA is gorgeous. IF you want a true look a like to play Casey Anthony, find a horse.

I guarantee that narcasistic POS baby killer sees this as a HUGE compliment. Letters she exchanged between another inmate revealed she thought she looks like certain hot actresses.

She is NOT attractive in any way, shape or form. No killer is attractive.

I agree.....I won't be tuning in. This gong show is over. I'm bored and could care less about Creature Anthony unless it's about her death.

Anyone else who watches Parks & Recreation notice that Rob Lowe REALLY looks like he's wearing a hairpiece? I swear I can always spot one a block away and am almost positive that he's got sumptin going on up there. Have a good look on the show and see if you think so too.

Lifetime, there are so many people and things that you could do a movie on. I only hope that "that woman" doesn't see a penny from this movie. I will not be watching this movie E V E R.

Damn...for a second there I thought you meant they'd cast Rob AS Casey Anthony.
(Actually, Rob could probably pull that off- in fact, there's even a bit of a resemblance).
