While you were working...

[By the by, we noticed some of you like to have a little fun in this post. And that's fine by us! Consider this the "free" post - come here and chat (responsibly) about topics unrelated to what's been up that day. This way, you guys can meet and greet here, leaving the comments on other posts to focus solely on the topic at hand. Have at it!]

Today's news you might've missed:

  • Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard are the proud new parents of a baby girl named Gloria Ray, whom they welcomed in New York on April 19.
  • HBO's "Girls" is contested cable programming, but it's on HBO, after all. Lena Dunham's baby and Julia Louis-Dreyfus' well-received "Veep" have both been picked up for a second season.
  • Rihanna's been everywhere, man, looking for someone, someone who can please her - even in the fakest, sound-stagiest desert we've ever seen:

  • The Wanted called Christina Aguilera a b***h on a radio show even though they're not entirely sure if she is, in fact, a b***h in real life - and no, they're not entirely apologetic about it either. [TMZ]
  • Although headlines klaim the "Kardashians" spin-off "Khloe & Lamar" is kaput, Khloe's  rep says hold your horses. The future of the show will "depend on their [schedules] as Lamar’s basketball is priority right now." [Us Weekly]
  • Kristen Stewart has gone from playing the kid in "Panic Room" and the twitchy actress in the "Twilight" franchise to landing a succession of interesting roles, plus bagging her first executive producer credit in the process. [Variety]

Trailer Park: Peter Jackson defends 'Hobbit' footage

Trailers for three anticipated movies are creating quite a bit of buzz in Tinseltown - and one for not-the-most-flattering reasons.

According the Hollywood Reporter, “The Hobbit” director Peter Jackson is defending ten minutes of unfinished footage he showed at Cinemacon in Las Vegas last week, saying the audience’s less-than-enthusiastic response “wasn’t particularly surprising because it is something new.”

Instead of shooting the 3-D "Lord of the Rings" prequel at the  more standard rate of 24-frames-per-second, the filmmaker has gone with the faster rate of 48-frames-per-second, which yields a very different look.

'Mad Men' gets down and dirty

[The following post contains spoilers for the April 29 episode of AMC’s "Mad Men."]

Good news everyone! Those “adult content” advisories that ran throughout Sunday night’s episode? Completely justified!

But before we get to what scarred Sally for life, let’s talk about what else happened last night.

Glen returned – all grown up and 50 percent less creepy – and it was sort of sweet to see that he and Sally had maintained their friendship over the years.

Mel Gibson: I've got a bit of a temper

Mel Gibson has admitted to a trait some probably presumed quite a while ago, thanks to the headlines: The actor has said he's got a bit of a temper.

Gibson made the admission Friday on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” after screenwriter Joe Eszterhas' release of what he says is a tape of Gibson ranting.

Eszterhas, who wrote a script for a film Gibson is working on about Jewish hero Judah Maccabee, also accused the actor of anti-Semitism in a nine-page letter.
