Rosie O'Donnell: Lohan's not right for Liz Taylor roleLifetime execs may be among those who think that Lindsay Lohan is one of the "rare actresses" with the talent to play the late Elizabeth Taylor, but Rosie O'Donnell decidedly is not. To be fair, O'Donnell wasn't speaking on the topic of Lohan's casting randomly - Matt Lauer asked if she thought it was a "good idea" for Lohan to play a young Taylor on Tuesday's edition of the "Today" show. "I feel very sorry for her," O'Donnell said. "I think she needs a lot of help, she needs a lot of time away."
The TV personality went on to explain that she didn't think Lohan's role in "Liz & Dick" was a smart move because the actress has "had a lot of trouble doing every single movie...She's not in a place to work. I don't think she's right for the role, and I don't think she's capable at this point of doing what's needed." What do you think of O'Donnell's remarks? We know how Lohan's camp feels about them: Her rep told E! News, "I think Rosie should focus on her own career and stop worrying about everyone else's."

I thought the same thing when I heard. She could never be a believable Liz Taylor. She doesn't look too bad in the trailer but at one point her voice is just so grating and wrong. Liz had a wonderful voice.

Lindsay looks so beautiful– and I can't wait to see her in this production. I love everything she's been in, and to all you haters I say YOU'RE IDIOTS. She's brilliant and she is mesmerizing. Lifetime movie. 'nuff said. Agree Lohan is bad choice, and apparently she destroyed an original vintage movie set trailer that was custom made for Taylor during Cleopatra filming. The studio rented the trailer from the owner, and returned it with over $100,000 in damages. I think Lindsey Lohan is one of the prettiest actresses in Hollywood and she has the acting chops too. She just needs to win her battle against her demons. She might have already done that. Give her a chance.

I agree with Rosie. I do not think that she is in a place right now in her life where she can do what it required of this role. She had serious issues that she has not dealt with. She was just in a BAR FIGHT. That does not sound like someone stable to me. I don't see Rosie as putting her down either. She was tackful and it came from an understanding of needing time to heal before taking on mountains.
I agree. She was a wrong choice to portray Liz Taylor. Liz was a classic woman and Lindsey is not. She has demonstrated to be a sub standard actress and she does not represent Liz Taylor in a honorable way. Liz Taylor is Royal in the Entertainment Business. i dont understand the hatred for Rosie. she speaks her mind. she's not a mindless robot like most of hollywood. i met her twice and on both occasions she was nothing but nice and did not act one bit snobby or as if she was above anybody else. at the time i was a cashier at a concession stand. a position that doesnt normally get the nicest people. and who cares about her weight, judging by most of america i can only assume most of you commenting arent exactly in tip top shape. so stop judging someone else for having the balls to speak up. you should try the same without hiding behind your computers.

Since when did Rosie O'Donnell become a movie star expert. The last time I looked her show was cancelled on OWN. Now she is saying that Lindsay Lohan is not right to play Liz Taylor?. Maybe Rosie should play Liz Taylor, that's not going to happen that because she would have to do a lot romantic scens, then a double would have to be brought in. Righ now in Hollywood Rosie O'Donnell is a nobody, nobody pays to much attention to Rosie O'Donnelll she like to hear herself talk. I am not a Rosie fan, however, I believe she was asked the question by Matt Lauer. She gave her opinion so how is she bad mouthing Lindsay. If my opinion isn't positive I shouldn't say anything. I tootally agree with her, this girl is not ready for such a role but time will tell if we are wrong.
Rosie didn't go far enough, Lohan thinks she is above the law, above the rest of America, a mental illness too prevelant in entertainment. We should be talking about possible early release b/c if justice was truly blind, she'd have been put in jail quite awhile ago. Taylor was NOT CLASS. Young people see her work for AIDS and they should; that was the only right thing she did.
Nothing else in her life qualifies her to be classy. She partied hard, addicted to alcohol and drugs, personals scandals, certainly not a true friend. Who am I talking about? Taylor or Lohan? Both had these problems, both had beauty and Lohan can look like Taylor. Excellent choice.
There are so many other deserving actress. Besides, they are not try out for the roll of Elizebeth Taylor they trying our for the roll of Cleotatra. She was the most desired woman of her time. Ever watched that show the 50 most beautiful women in the world. I don't think you will find her in the top ten.Angelena Joli on the other, has air about her that would make perfect for the role.

I think Liz Taylor would have been able to empathize with Lohan . . . and with the right makeup and wigs she'd be good in the role. There is a slight similarity already. All this, of course, will hinge on whether Lohan can maintan an even keel in her personal life. I'm cautiously optimistic, that's as far as I'll go.
While I don't condone Lindsay's behavior it the recent past, I think Rosie is wrong. Not only has she always reminded me of a young Liz, but who better to play her part? Liz also struggled with addiction problems. Lindsay can relate to that in a very personal way. Hopefully her sobriety has advanced enough that she can handle the demands of the job and portray Liz as I believe she can

It's really NONE of Rosie O'Donnell's business – but as we all know – Rosie O'Donnell is a woman who for several decades is a relentless, bombastic loudmouth who picks fights, bullies and insults other celebrities on a daily basis. She is a Professional Loudmouth and Professional Troublemaker. Rosie O'Donnell is the MOST obnoxious, abrasive, rude person in the entire entertainment industry. Just in one day – she says more cruel, opinionated comments than Joan Rivers, Kathy Griffin and Chelsea Handler combined – but at least those three women are incredibly FUNNY and talented.
The only person who is more of a windbag, loudmouth, obnoxious, gasbag than Rosie O'Donnell is Donald Trump. it was just awful when the two of them locked horns and had a public fued.
The reason why Rosie O'Donnell is bullying and verbally abusing Lindsey Lohan is because Rosie O'Donnell is a relentless publicity hound and has a chronic need to hear the sound of her own voice.
The court probation judge publicly congratulated Lindsey Lohan for successfully completing intensive counseling and drug/alcohol treatment. The judge took her off probation because there was clear evidence, Lohan is trying hard to turn her life around. I think it is a great idea for Lohan to go back to work and stay gainfully employed. If she is unemployed with too much idle time on her hands – it is too easy to get into trouble. She also has bills to pay and needs to work. She hasn't worked for a long time and has tons of legal bills to pay.
It wasn't "work" that caused Whitney Houston to die – it was drug and alcohol abuse. Lindsey Lohan successfully completed intensive mental health treatment and counseling, community service – the judge who oversaw her probation ruled that Linsdey should be taken off probation and needs to go back to work.
If Rosie O'Donnell can't keep her big fat mouth shut – will someone put a sock in her mouth the next time she burts out in vitriolic, hate speech?
Rosie is right and shows concern for Lindsay...she needs to focus on her health first.
As I think about Lohan being cast as Elizabeth Taylor, the more I think Miss. Taylor is rolling over in her grave. My personal feeling is; Jennifer Love Hewitt would be better for the part. She has the charisma that Lohan doesn't have. Also, there is no way on God's green earth I would see a movie about Elizabeth Taylor with Lohan cast for the part. I just don't find it appealing.

I spent the past 2 decades surrounded by my bi-polar family members and for me its easy to see her behavior screams a mental illness. Its very sad to see her in pain, but its been my experience it takes many years to balance out the life of someone who suffers from manic depression. Good luck to her.
how many second chances is LiLo going to get? Rosie HAS talent- if you cant remember A League of Their Own. This one movie has done far better (in terms of todays dollars) than any movie LiLo has done. Rosie also works with charity groups not because she's court ordered to but because she has a passion for it. And last time I checked she's had HOW many day time talk shows? I cant remember any of LiLo's accomplishments matching anything Rosie has done except for the illicit drug and alcohol ABUSE. As a drug counselor – she should work on her sobriety.
And because a JUDGE – not an addiction counselor or anyone else with an addiction background, says she completed treatment doesn't mean the issue is resolved. Once an addict always an addict. I'm an alcoholic for today, and being sober for today is the only thing that matters.

There are similarities between the two actresses, but there are huge problems in LiLo's way of accomplishing and doing the role it's justice.
Rosie is just bummed out that the did not sign her to play the Fat Liz.

In her prime, Elizabeth was considered one of the most beautiful woman in the world. Not just for her looks, but how she carried herself. I'm afraid I don't see how this is going to work. What about Jennifer Hewitt – have I got the name right – the one from The Ghost Whisperer. From the moment I saw her I thought she could play the part of Taylor.

I love how people have nothing better to do than shoot down successful people by calling them fat. Rosie has been in the entertainment industry for decades, and like it or not, she has had success. i always get a kick out of reading a couple comments and then move on to the next story but i thought id actually leave a comment this time because i got so tickled how they dont think lindsay should play liz, as if liz was some classy lady. She constantly slept around, was a drunk, pill popper, borke up marriages, physical abuse both ways with Burton, craved the media, overacted in every film she ever played in. I cant think of anyone BETTER to play Liz....lol. Granted Liz did wonderful things as well, most notibly in her charity work in her later years. It is not about which actress has just as much as a screwed up life as the character. Lindsey is a good actress, do not get me wrong for the type of movies and characters she portrayed, but I personally do not thin she is a powerful of enough actress to play Elizabeth Taylor.

I remember seeing a picture of Lindsey years ago on the cover of a magazine and thinking how she was beautiful in an Elizabeth Taylor glamorous kind of way. I think she'll do a wonderful job! I've enjoyed everything I've seen her in.
I don't think Lohan would be a goodfit for the young Taylor. Lohan is all washed up and old looking now. I can't believe they picked her out of all the young beautiful ladies that are rising stars. Liz would not have approved of their pick.

Yeah, well..people are dying everywhere, furthermore, why should we be responsible for what happens in other countries?? I'd help if I felt like it would help but I know that it won't and I do what I can here locally whenever I can, it may not be much but I do my part in helping someone that needs help. I nor you nor this country can control and rule other cultures/governments and make them stop doing what they're doing.. threatening to starve them financially or otherwise is just telling them we've stooped to their level and are treating them the same way. that doesn't solve it.. the only way the violence will stop is when they decide it's time to stop and help each other.

Whether she deserves a break or not, whether she's ready to work or not, Lohan looks nothing like Taylor, isn't at all the right type, and is completely wrong for the part just based on that. Lohan has talent enough, but playing someone noted for her singular looks requires an actress who is physically close enough to type; you can't pull this one off just by convincing acting.
Don't know if Lindsey Lohan is right to play Liz Taylor. But Liz wasn't exactly Classy. She was pretty much a tough broad, and talked like a sailor.

So If you love Liz so much, the least you could do is give Lindsay a break and hope she can pull it together. It is sick how we just want celebrities to be train wrecks all the time. They are people too. They have parents, and friends and family members who care about them. Half of the circus their lives become is the fault of the people buying fan-mags and reading these articles (I'm including myself). If we just let them enjoy their passion in life they could have a life. They don't bother us in our offices at our desks, on the way to the gym.

I thought that Rosie's comments were very kindly phrased. Ms Lohan has not shown me much talent. She has demonstrated her desire for noteriety, and her ability to gain it. The last photograph I saw of her id not show much beauty, but we all know how Hollywood can cover that up. If she has the part, it's too late to complain. It's a done deal.

Liz Taylor was 100 times worse than Lindsay during her tabloid heyday. Liz had a public affair with a married man. Lindsay's never done anything as trashy as that. And what do you think they did at Studio 54 when Liz hung out there? Why do you think Liz had to go to Betty Ford? Liz Taylor had lifelong addiction problems that make Lindsay's problems with alcohol and drugs look pretty minor in comparison.

I agree that Lohan is not the best candidate to play Liz Taylor. For several decades Taylor was one of THE most beautiful women on the planet. There are hundreds of pics throughout the years to demonstrate this. One actress that MIGHT be perfect for the role is Natalie Portman. Not only is she a far superior actress than Lohan, but she's also quite beautiful.
And a ton of people will watch it. So the execs get exactly what they want – ratings. 🙂

Hollywood is really trying to bring people like Liz Taylor and Marilyn Monroe back to life. If they want a look-alike why don't they just use computers to generate the image. It would be kinder.
Liz was tiny? You need to look at her movies again. See that fat roll growing around her middle? That was booze bloat. She was a major alcoholic and you can see it in the booze bloat that grew around her midsection as her drinking and pill-popping got worse and worse. Lindsay might have to wear some fat pads around her midsection to play Liz during her hard drinking days with her hard drinking husband Richard Burton.

As far as her acting skills go, I don't know if she has the chops to pull it off or not because I've only seen one of LL's movies, back when she was a kid. Personally, I don't know if she can act or not, but playing a young Liz Taylor, those are big shoes to fill. LL has too many personal issues right now – she's not ready for it. She is an insurance nightmare/liability for anyone hiring her for a job. I think they should go with someone with proven acting chops, perhaps someone from the theatrical world. Because of the nature of theatrical work,Broadway actors are usually very good. That's where they need to look for a young Liz Taylor. LL may or may not be able to overcome her demons one day, who knows?
