TV legend Dick Clark dies at 82Venerated TV producer and host of "New Year's Rockin' Eve" Dick Clark has passed away, CNN has confirmed via his publicist. He was 82. According to Clark's publicist, the icon passed away Wednesday morning following a massive heart attack. "Clark, 82, had entered St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica last night for an outpatient procedure," a statement says. "Attempts to resuscitate were unsuccessful. He is survived by his wife Kari and his three children, RAC, Duane and Cindy." In 2004, Clark suffered a stroke, causing him to step back from his duties as host of "New Year's Rockin' Eve," which he also produced. Known as "America's teenager" because of his longtime hosting duties with the dance show "American Bandstand," Clark also hosted numerous other television favorites including "$25,000 Pyramid" and "TV's Bloopers and Practical Jokes."

I remember this show well. I used to watch it with my older brother pete on saturday afternoons and that was how i got introduced to all that great music of the sixties. Loved the new years eve ball drops with Dick in the seventies. I even remember seeing him on batman once. well, heavens got another star, you'll be missed Dick, say hi to my Dad when you see him.....

Mr. Clark, rest in peace. You brought such fun to the many years of not just game shows – the American Bandstand was the how to dances & what dances were happening. My opinion- it had fashion in the dancing too. It was a great and meaningful time for myself and am sure for many others...

Such a great loss in the passing of Dick Clark. He did so much for everyone, not only in the entertainment industry, but for all the world. Truly a one of a kind man. RIP Dick Clark you will never be forgotten. I still watch him on GSN he was such great person, and a good bussiness man. I watched him on American Bandstand, I didn't realize what impact he had on society at that time having a variety of stars on his show. He will go down in history for being calm, smooth, and smart.

As host of the decades-long "American Bandstand", Clark had a bouncy beat and a really good rhythm and he was easy to dance to – I rate him 8.5 out of 10. Dug that show, along with "Hullaballoo" and "Shindig". "Bloopers and Practical Jokes" was horrible, however. Ah well, there's a new star up there in Rock 'n Roll Heaven...
What sad news....I will definately miss him. New Years Eve wont ever be the same. Rest in Peace and thanks for the memories.

Rest In Peace Dick Clark.....coming home from school in the 50's, tuning in to the Mickey Mouse Club and American Bandstand are among my favorite childhood memories; and there IS a rockin roll heaven – see you there.
WOW, this is so very sad. I learned how to dance watching American Bandstand and Soul Train. Dick Clark and Don Cornielius will be missed, but never forgotten. Both these men brought American Music to pretyy high standards.....sleep well to both DC's....
I met him during the 1980's. He was a huge celebrity but was as genuine as could be and that's why people young and old loved him.
He is a true irreplaceable!
I feel like a part of me has died today. Those of us who grew up during the American Bandstand era know what I mean.....it is an absolute shame that we do not think of the great values that people bestow on us until they are gone. Rest and God bless Mr. Dick Clark.
So sad to hear about Dick Clark. I admired and respected him. He forged ahead in spite of his difficulties after his stroke. He always wanted to be a part of things. It was so nice to see him on New Year's Rockin' Eve, year after year.
He was indeed "America's Oldest Teenager". For so many years, he never showed his age. He will be sorely missed.

Surprised but not shocked but still saddened by the news. Watched American Bandstand every Saturday religiously. Though some have tried to replicate "Bandstand" they never were quite as successful... because that show was one of a kind! Dick Clark is a legend! American Dreams is an American television comedy-drama program broadcast on the NBC television network, produced by Once A Frog and Dick Clark Productions in association with Universal Network Television and NBC Studios. The series was created by Jonathan Prince and developed by Josh Goldstein and Prince; the latter was also one of the executive producers with Dick Clark. It debuted on September 29, 2002. The show is set mostly in Philadelphia. It initially aired on Sundays at 8:00pm Eastern time, but moved to the same time on Wednesdays from March 9, 2005, to the third season finale (March 30, 2005). The show tells the story of the Pryor family of Philadelphia during the mid-1960s. Season one takes place in 1963-64, season two in 1964-65, and season three in 1965-66. The show was known as "Our Generation" when it debuted in Australia, however it was changed back to "American Dreams" when it returned for the second season.
I enjoyed his presence whenever a teen group was on the TV. It was like having a cool adult chaperoning.
All these recent deaths of musicians, etc. and people related to the past Rock era are sad and shocking.
But, to be honest, I never think about them anymore till I read about their passing.

BTW, I can't think of anyone who was more unflappable on screen than Dick Clark.

i watched from the young age of 6 yrs old. he was an icon then and will be missed very much by all. you were truly a remarkable man and a great legend has passed. you will be missed by all. god bless his family in this trying time.

Teenager Dick Clark dead at 82? WOW he will be missed. I grew up with Band Stand. RIP DICK.
A Legend who will be dearly missed. I remember watching his New Year's Rockin' Eve every year, but the one I remember most vividly is in 2006. It was sad seeing him like that, but it was great seeing the strength he had after his stroke. That year, especially, it was very clear the transition was beginning. I didn't grow up in the era of American Bandstand, but I sure as Hell know I missed out on a lot of fun then! Looking to today, I don't think his legacy could be better held and carried out in spirit than by Ryan Seacrest. I'm sure Dick is looking down on Seacrest and saying something along the lines, "You're doing good, Kid....Now it's your turn." I mean, I'm growing up in the age of Seacrest, and I don't think any modern day fan of pop culture could ask for anybody better to take the spot of yesterday's Heroes than Ryan Seacrest. He is the living legacy of Dick Clark.

I remember when it seemed that he never aged.
Why would he age, he played on tv games all his life.......how much stress could that have caused him?
what a great guy............. always thought he was so cool, and a real gentleman. a huge part of my growing up in the 70's. I'd watch the show on Saturdays, and then if I liked the act that performed that day, rush up to the record store ( yes there were places actually called record stores, Sam's Jams in Ferndale ) and buy the album. he'll be very much missed.

I watched him growing up with American Bandstand, The Pyramid game show... TV Bloopers & Practical Jokes, and his Rock n Rolling New Year's Eve. Another giant in TV history gone. One who brought Rock and Roll to teens throughout America with the stars who made the songs famous, and the dance crazes of the times. R.I.P. Dick Clark.
God bless and rest in peace! You brought years of sheer joy to many teenagers, myself included, who raced home from school to watch American Bandstand each day. We learned how to dance watching the regulars on "Bandstand." You are a Rock and Roll icon, along with all the wonderful artists you introduced to us who became Rock and Roll Hall of Famers. This man will truly be missed. i spent many Saturday afternoon watching his show on ABC. If you were a musician and you wanted to be known and heard you appeared on two shows; Soul Train and American Bandstand. If you couldn't get booked on those shows you were NOT going to make it. RIP Dick Clark and Don Cornelius.

Good memories of sitting by the radio listening to him belt out the top 40 songs in America and reading letters of dedication in the late 70's and 80's. This was the only way to know what was hot before MTV, the internet, and other social media even existed. These days I think most teens would find it difficult to sit in front of a radio for hours while the top 40 songs were played. Now you can just online and find the list in seconds and be done with it. He was a great American Icon.
Good memories indeed. I remember seeing Prince for the first time on American Bandstand. Dick Clark was a great host of this and many other television and radio shows. What a great life he had.
