'Dance Duel' takes out celebrity on 'DWTS'

The long-awaited "Dance Duel" occurred on last night's "Dancing with the Stars" results show, but singer/songwriter Gavin DeGraw seemed to know his fate long before the "duelers" were revealed.

DeGraw joked before and after Monday's so-so samba that he'd likely be one of the "duelers."  Then, after he and Jaleel White were revealed to be the celebrities with the lowest vote totals, DeGraw noted to host Tom Bergeron that White was "more talented."

Finally, after DeGraw, White and their partners faced off in a cha-cha battle, the judges told the singer/songwriter that he was going home.

Despite his struggles throughout the competition - he finished in the bottom two three times - DeGraw told CNN after the show that he enjoyed his time on the series, heaping praise on his pro partner, Karina Smirnoff.

"Karina is a great, great dancer. She's a tolerant teacher and a deliberate human being," DeGraw said. "I like deliberate people - they know what they want and they go for it."

DeGraw added that he's leaving the show with plenty of memories and a new sense of what it takes to make "Dancing with the Stars" work.

"It's a very difficult job that these people [at the show] do here. From dancing to what's on and off camera, it's been a great grounding experience," the singer/songwriter told us.

Next week, the remaining celebrities will take on the best of Motown.
