Stephen Hawking pays a visit to 'Big Bang Theory'

It's been quite a couple of weeks for Sheldon Cooper.

First, he's visited in a dream by "Spock," and the following week, he meets his idol, Stephen Hawking.

It wasn't totally painless, however. It turned out that Howard was assisting Hawking, and the moment Sheldon got wind of this, he insisted/begged/pleaded that Howard show Hawking one of his research papers.

So how often has Sheldon begged before? Raj cleared it up: "Three times. He begged the Fox network not to cancel 'Firefly.' He begged the TNT network to cancel 'Babylon 5.' And when he got food poisoning at the Rose Bowl Parade, he begged a deity he doesn't believe in to end his life quickly."

After all the abuse Howard has received from Sheldon over the years, he made him work for it. Some of it involved polishing Howard's large collection of belt buckles, and wearing a French maid costume.

Worst of all, Sheldon had to go shopping with Howard's mother.

It was all worth it, though, and the big moment was all it was cracked up to be, and then some. Hawking has only appeared on "The Simpsons" before (animated, obviously) and "Star Trek: Next Generation" so this was a Big Deal.

The most hilarious part was how this version of Stephen Hawking is very well aware of how much of a Big Deal he is. When Howard said it was nice to meet him, he replied, "I know."

Then when Hawking pointed out a "boo-boo" in Sheldon's research paper, he passed out.

After a pause, Hawking said, "Great, another fainter."

It was truly one of the most memorable scenes in the show's history. I would even say, greater than Nimoy last week.

Do you agree? Was Stephen Hawking worth waiting for (he has been on the producers' wish list for a while). Share your view on video or comment below.

Moving on, Who is going to be the next star from science fact or fiction on BBT? Will we see if it was Sheldon's interference that caused the cannonball mishap on Mythbusters or will he start a debate that ends in a fistfight at Comic-con between William Shatner and Patrick Stewart? We will have to wait and see...

for ppl asking for what he has done – well, there are so many theories he has published and their brilliance is the reason why he is so well regarded. is all of it proved? majority of it is not proved – as our technology or observational capacity are not advanced enuf to conduct experiments to prove these, maybe someday we will prove some of them, or disprove some of them – that doesnt matter – he is a theoretical physicist, his job is to think – and his reputation is a reflection of just how brilliant he is at that. u gotta be kinda trusting to believe in god – a petty god – who gives eternal life to those who believe and eternal damnation to those who dont, irrespective of how good or bad ppl they were... some ppl only belong in the middle ages.

Steven Hawking has a mind the likes of which only come around once in a century. I can respect others disagreeing with his opinions and theories, because to have those feelings about him requires you to know A) who he is and B) what his contributions to science have been. If you know enough about him to honestly feel that he has no standing in the scientific community, then you are at least sufficiently intelligent enough to realize that no matter how you personally feel about him, he has impacted the world of science in a way no one else in living memory has. (Whether you think that influence is justified or not). But to make fun of a fatal degenerative disease is pathetic. It speaks volumes to your immaturity, self-centeredness, heartlessness and ignorance. God help you if someone you love ever has to face such medical devastation. And if that ever does happen to you and you are forced to watch your loved one wither away a little at a time and slowly lose control over the one thing we should all have control over, our bodies, take into account that this man, whose physical limitations continue to increase, still continues to influence the field of science the world over. Then look at your loved one in the same position and see how much they contribute to moving the human race forward.

I really hate Steven Hawking. And it's not because I'm Christian. It's because he compares himself to people like Isaac Newton and Einstein even though he hasn't really contributed anything at all. He's also INCREDIBLY arrogant, it just makes me so mad...

Mr. Hawking, if you happen to read these comments, and I know it's highly unlikely, I would like to say I am a huge admirer of your awesome MIND (and your sense of humor doesn't suck, either). I would take it in my hands if I could and kiss the living shi^ out of it! Thank you for the excellent contributions you have given the world, and carry on! Peace & Love!

you take one fact out of the context and think you are a smart-ass. Back then it was a nataurl phenomena and an afterward recovery happened. Now we abuse atmosphere with more and more farts and CO2 do you think a recovery will happen this time? If you knock down a person he will eventually rise again, but if you keep beating him up while he unconsciously is lying on the ground you will simply kill him think about that! OK?!

@CommonSense, whether or not God exists is a personal matter of faith. I, for one, happen to believe God does exist but I'm not going to go around shoving my beliefs in someone's face and tell them they are wrong just because they don't believe the way I do. Religion and science are two different theologis, one requiring tangible proof and the other just faith. I happen to believe in both.

For those asking what Stephen Hawking has done – your tiny brains could never comprehend a fraction of what he has done, but in language you can understand, he has contributed much to understanding the nature and origin of the universe. And he has written books, you should try picking one up sometime and reading it. Believe it or not, there is a whole section called non-fiction in the library, although it might be over some of your heads to actually learn something. IOnly bible-humpers would doubt his genius. I'd like one of you to name a single thing that backs up the existence of a god. God doesn't exist, deal with it.

I have to agree with Richard on this issue. Do some research on Hawking. The cr@p he says is backed up by nothing. It is just his personal opinion. It is just what he believes or claims to believe. No actual science is involved.

Hawking is one of the significant humans alive. I am a theist; he is not. This weakens my faith as much as the "too fast" particles aat Cern:Those little devils fooled us. But Hawking has stood where only a few have ever stood (Plato, Dante; Spinoza, Maxwell, Einstein). He has gone farther and stood at the summit of God's Creation. Hawking has stood where God stands. My theory is that what Hawking saw his own reflection. What does God look like? He looks just as who have found look.God looks like Hawking , Einstein, Maxwell, Spinoza, Shakespeare, Cervantes,,and John the Baptist. Christ has risen, but so have a very tiny of us (not me) to see the reflection in the golden eye of God.

Many in the scientific community consider him a joke. They question his beliefs. That is all his ideas are – his own personal beliefs. Not fact. Not even theory. Just something he reportedly made up and claims to be true. Kind of like how the Mormon religion was founded. I wonder if he has a magic hat where he gets his ideas – one like Joseph Smith had?

Are there any good websites that exlapin the physics of global warming? I searched a while ago and found some at the 7th grade level while the denier web sites were at near college level. I just happened to know enough to spot that there absorption physics never considered the conservation of momentum so they led the viewer to think there was no sensible heat exchanged by the absorption process.

Stephen Hawkings has always been an inspiration to me....not for his intelligence but for how he has dealt with this horrible disease, ALS is something I would not wish on my worst enemy. My father past away very quickly from this disease and I can not believe that people are making fun of him for this.....if you did a little research you would know what he has been going through.....I think Mr. Hawkings is also the longest living person with ALS.....

He has every right to express his opinion about the existence of God. Just like you, me and everyone else. You have the right to disagree but you can't make anyone believe just you want them to. Faith is personal and I will believe whatever I choose. It's my soul not yours.

Stephen Hawking is acknowledged by almost everyone in the world as THE smartest man alive and many think he is smarter then Einstein ever was. All you notice is his stature and physical handicap? The man has ALS and that's no laughing matter, it's degenerative and fatal. Way to laugh at another human's misfortune.

He seems to just sit around making up crazy nonsense. It is quite probable much of his so called brilliant thoughts are actually more science fiction than science fact. Plus Spock is way cooler.

Hawking has a motor neuron disease related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a condition that has progressed over the years. He is now almost completely paralysed and communicates through a speech generating device. If commentors took 30 seconds to look him up, Hawkings is considered to be a genius of the caliber of Einstein, hence his appearance on Big Bang.

Stephen Hawking has been living with ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease for decades, much longer than most. His brain is still as sharp as ever, which means he is arguably the most intelligent man living. He speaks using an electronic communicator which he operates with his eyes, the only muscles over which he still has control. He's not short so much as the disease has taken its toll on his body. Google him and be astonished at what he has done for science in one lifetime.
