What's the verdict on 'Titanic' in 3-D?Moviegoers who are headed out to see "Titanic's" remastered 3-D release this week will actually see something new: Director James Cameron has swapped out the stars that are seen in a crucial scene in the original 1997 film in order to portray an accurate sky. Cameron's re-editing was prompted by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, who's also the director of the Rose Center for Earth and Space at New York's American Museum of Natural History. Tyson has noted that the stars Kate Winslet's character Rose views as she lies upon a piece of driftwood are inaccurate, a flub he found surprising from a filmmaker known for being an obsessive perfectionist.
"Neil deGrasse Tyson sent me quite a snarky email saying that, at that time of year, in that position in the Atlantic in 1912, when Rose is lying on the piece of driftwood and staring up at the stars, that is not the star field she would have seen," Cameron told U.K. publication the Telegraph. And so, Cameron has edited the scene to portray the star field that would have actually been viewed on April 15, 1912 at 4:20 a.m. But stars aside, how well does the 15-year-old film hold up in 3-D? The Telegraph found that Cameron used 3-D with "intelligence, and often restraint...Re-watching 'Titanic' 15 years on, there can surely be little remaining doubt that this film ranks alongside 'Gone With the Wind' and 'Cleopatra' as a once-in-a-generation Hollywood epic. It has aged without dating. It transcends its target audiences. It is simply too big for genre." Stateside, reviews were mostly just as enthusiastic. USA Today raves that "time proves surprisingly kind to the characters," and while its still the same story, "the dizzying visuals are even more spectacular, and the tension ratchets up several notches with the film's rebooting in 3-D." The Detroit Free Press agrees that the film "is aging surprisingly well," and "quibbles" like running time, dialogue and "digital effects...fade with time." The Philadelphia Daily News offers a voice of dissent, critiquing "Titanic" in 3-D as "offering no new moviegoing thrills," and, to this reviewer at least, "a less enjoyable visual experience." Will you be seeing "Titanic" in 3-D? Leave your verdict below - and don't miss our iReporters doing their best impression of Winslet's Rose. |

Hey u fudge packers! Wanna schlob my knob? I got da phatt chubs!
me gusta chupar el pene de todo el mundo. Yo soy una fruta. Hay alguien(solamente los ninos) que quiere chingar??
I have a hot date with Casey Anthony and we are going to see it.....yaaaaaaa!!
I agree: since they flubbed up the view of the starfield the first time (How Anal can u get??!), we ought to see it for free. At today's ticket prices, I'll use my imagination to see the correct "star field' as well as Kate's bouncing bossom.
Luv story long and improbable...Kate heavy...4D minimal....yawn
Sucked just as much now as it did first time
Since its in 3D maybe they might see the iceburg this time.
I seen the first version and loved it can't wait to go see the 3D version I think it is going to be awsome me and my best friend can't wait wooho
Yeeaahh!! It is gonna be so fun. Me and my best friend are gonna go to the theater and look for sum dudes. We is gonna polish their knobs during the movie!!
I seen the first version and loved it can't wait to go see the 3D version
Nope won't be going to see it! Rather invest the 17.00 buck on something worth it. Donate the money to feed the children or something I think we have made them rich enough off the first one. Unless they are giving the money to a greater cause them i would. They should be playing it for free since they messed up the sky on the first one lol...just one more way "3 D" to rip people off there money......
I especially like the part of the monkey climbing the Empire State Building
The movie was ok. made me cry man-tears. i just can't stand the Celine Dion song. 'Love was when i loved you...'? talk about horrible lyric writing.
I iz a big ol puzz !! I be cryin when any tragic love scene comes on. I also luv to schlob big ol knobs!!
This movie is so shamelessly overrated. "Leonardo, come back! Come back! Where are you going, come back!" Give me a musical any day. I think I'll stay home and watch Mary Poppins. You go girl. Get it girl. Don't you live the way miss thing flies around big Ben!
It wuz a waste of my time.
Licky my dicky jimmy cammy
Nigerz are ruining this world
Sucka dickkky
I wonder if JC made the Rose & Jack spitting seen in 3-D??? No matter, no desire to see this movie again since it's historical/hysterical fiction. [spoiler alert...] 3-D or 2-D, the ship will still sink and 1500 people die. Still hoping the captain will change course & old Rose would give the granddaughter or Bill Paxton's character (forgot his name) the necklace. Saving my $15.
Replace Celine Dion song, with a Black Sabbath or Judas Priest song...and I'll go. Otherwise, um, no thanks. Hope Leo tapped that babe a few times during filming. TB
Im gay
Its a Fan trailer
Definition : not really coming out, made up, make believe
But to be honest it's kind of impressive
You are so right hunny!
I been pumpin da plump rump of sum gay chumps for years. I luv dem big ol meat stix!!
Dont plan on wasting precious dollars on a movie I've owned for 15 years. Another cash in for Jim as if he needed one after AvaTURD! I miss the old James, he was the king of sci fi, Sequels and Action! Now he's just the "king of the world" again! Works wonders for his ego, wanna see him and Michael Bay go one on one in a cage fighting match, explosions included. (although Jim beats Bay 10 to 1 in quality productions, they both have inflated egos that could fill a hot air balloon).
On to better news anybody see this trailer I posted below? Is this real?

If this movie means I get to see Kate Winslet's boobs in 3D, I'm a happy man.
I only want to watch this in 3D so I can laugh my butt off again when that guy jumps off the back and twirls after smacking the prop! Endless fun and laughter!

I Am A Meat Slappin Pud That Loves To Pack Fudge!
If he's so worried about accuracy, how does he explain the characters running around endlessly in 33° water?
Perfect comparison with gone with the wind. 2 awful movies.
My girlfriend wants me to take her to this movie. FML
it sucked in 2d.
Wasn't a fan the first time around, and converting a few scenese to 3-D is just a gimmick, not giving me any reason to want to rewatch it. Can't imagine what scenes he converted ... as Lem mentioned above, propeller at the end, cutting guy in half who took a suicidal leap ... yep, real romantic.
Matt, my good man. He did not convert just certain scenes into 3D, the whole movie has been converted. It upgrades the whole to another notch. Ive seen it 3 times prior and was over the whole love story after the first time seeing it. I think the visuals are amazing and Cameron has already said that if he was going to do this it had to be compared to as if it were shot originally in 3D. I consider him a genius after seeing this followed by Avatar. I recommend you see it, he wont let you down.
Attractive section of cntneot. I just stumbled upon your web site and in accession capital to assert that I acquire actually enjoyed account your blog posts. Anyway I will be subscribing to your augment and even I achievement you access consistently fast.
“Neil deGrasse Tyson sent me

in the theater in 3d no. hopefully when they bring it out on blu-ray it will have a 2-d version, which i will buy. I don't have a 3d tv, and there aren't very many movies i'll go to the theater for anymore.
Thanks a lot Harry! You just spoiled it!
Wooo the propeller scene is so realistic in 3 D. You can see the guts and intestines !
I will be seeing it! My all time favourite movies! Who cares if we know how its ends. The effects, the love story just warms my heart! And to see it in the theatres is a dream come true for me cause I was too young to see it in the theatre the first time! 😀
I am a pillow bitin rump ranger! This movie is gonna warm my heart....and my package when I see Leo on the big screen. I just wanna schlob his knob!!
Saw and enjoyed the first version, but haven't seen a 3D flick since 1958 when I almost threw up, but I will go. I was not allowed to see A Night to Remember when it came out in '58. My nagging question has always been whether James Cameron named his character Jack after my 17 year-old grandfather who actually was in first class and survived and wrote a short book on his experience in 1940. When people ask I just say Yup!
Those kid's arms are bent the wrong way
The verdict is, yawn. The ship still sinks.
Bleh, immature kid.
Harry, what a cynic.
I saw the original didnt like it then won't see this one. I know its a love story but lets be honest you know how its going to end as soon as you see the first scene. Girl meets wild boy they have fling. Girl choses boy. They run around ship. Ship gets nailed someone dies a tragic death. The end
Sounds like you got burned one time too many!
I feel sorry for Harry,
The Mona Lisa is just some painting of a chick. David is just a statue of some dude. West Wing is just people walking and talking. Firefly is just cowboys in space. It must be awful to go through life seeing the physical reality, but missing the art and magic and wonder...
Cameron (and his cinematographer and editor) did so much SO well in 1997. I trust him with his 3D version. I'll see it, and I'll see it a second time to make up for Harry.
cut. print. gay.
I saw it and it is 3-D elightful. Delightful that is! A good way to spend a happy spring break afternoon.
