More 'Star Wars'? Never, says George Lucas

When his film "Red Tails" was released earlier this year, George Lucas said that he was retiring and ready to move on to other things - which, yes, would mean no more "Star Wars" films.

The filmmaker reiterated as much when TMZ  photographers flagged him down as he was exiting an L.A. eatery on Wednesday. They asked when fans would get to see the seventh, eighth and ninth installments in the "Star Wars" series - and, well, the answer is don't hold your breath.

"Never," Lucas responded as he made his way to his car. "I'm retired."

It looks like he meant what he said in an interview with New York Times magazine earlier this year: "Why would I make any more ['Star Wars' movies] when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?" he inquired. "I think there are a lot more important things in the world."

We must either continue the trilogy without him or convince him. He can either betray us like anikan or help us like luke. He can take out the energy shields or turn to the dark side. And all u whiners who complain about greedo your idiots. Everyone makes mistakes. It's common. I seggest we convince him. If he is really done, then I will finish what he started.

He did finish what he started. The Starwars series tells the story of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, it's his story from childhood to death. It was a great series but now it's over. Stop complaning.

i am a little disappointed i am a 90's kid so naturally my parents showed me those movies and i loved them, then just recently i watched the more recent one's and i rather liked them, and i had forgotten that 4 5 and 6 were old movies, i tried watching them, but they just became very boring, i don't know if it was because they were bad movies, but mostly because i have always loved the actors that were in the more reent star wars movies i love obi one and liam neeson, it's just a real shame, i think the other movies should be remade, not by lucas, but someone else 🙁

The problem with Star Wars 1, 2, and 3 that most fans (like myself) don't understand is that it was not for us. The newest trilogy was meant to open up marketing avenues to the younger generations not reconnect old fans. I don't know if Lucas is directly involved with the video games and the Clone Wars cartoon, but whoever it is is doing a great job.

Another problem is that these newer films have to compete with the time at which the original fans saw them. The 80's were a great time to be a kid – blockbuster movies were new, computers and technology were rising quickly, mankind began serious travel into space. All promised an exciting and futuristic lifestyle and possibilities were seemingly limitless. Episodes 4,5,6 aren't actually as great as most fans will remember- part of it was just the positive vibe of the era.

george lucas may have 'ruined' star wars but he did produce the first legendary trilogy. yes, its a bit childish but it was ingenious in its own way. people keep hating on lucas and that won't do any good. pressuring him by chiding him and blasting about how horrible he is of a person will obviously have negative effects. look, now he's not making 2 more star wars. what are you star wars fans gonna do? wait for a new director to come and take the lead? thats just sad. if you truly loved star wars, you should've given constructive criticism rather than blasting the whole series. And in all honesty, the recent episodes 1-3 weren't all too bad. Yes the first episode was disastrous but in the general plotline, it fits rather well and transitions rather smoothly into the now episodes 4-6 (except for cgi, puppets and swordplay).
But now that the fans have pushed lucas, the father of our beloved star wars, out of the way, who else is able to take up the task of reanimating star wars? oh well...
    lucas deserves a retirement anyways.

I don't understand what's so wrong episodes 1-3, they were just as stupidly sci fi as 4-6. I got a much better story out of the KOTOR and Jedi Knight games. People act as if he destroyed his own series, not even thinking about how the idea is his and how he shapes it is his duty not the fans'. Every author, director, idealist has their hit, their follow up, and the rest of what they had to give the world.

Sadly Lucas is a hack director. Star wars success in the 70's was pure accident...his vision unobtainable without cgi was accidental gold, if he could have had the goofy aliens, the never ending poo jokes and the 8 is enough references...

The first film would have gone the way of Flash Gordon with queen singing the theme song.

Lucas turned into a focus group hound, only caring about what 8-14 year olds want in a character. And no, 3po and r2 in the original movies might have been comic relief but not the soulless corporate equation to make toys and money like ol Jar Jar was.

Not to mention the dbag keeps ruining the movies. And no they aren't his their are two others....and they seem to like slaughtering the originals just as much.

Honestly, I'm pretty relieved he's not planning on doing any more, considering how god-awful the last 3 were. Hopefully someday a bright and hopeful person will be conscribed to produce more of this after Lucas is gone, and just maybe they'll be more concerned with telling a story, and not selling a bunch of crap.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal is still worse than all the Star Wars prequels combined. Ugh... 15 minutes into the thing and I was ready for the blessed end! I'm a tad bit upset with Spielberg for participating in that farce, but Lucas was the fuel for the project and he's the one who wrote the cursed thing! That's truly worthy of shame. smh

Mr. Lucas, if you don't want people criticizing your work maybe you should write something intelligent with adult plot, characters and dialog. But since you seem intent on retiring, please take your friend Steve Spielberg with you. We're all pretty grossed out by the Lucas / Spielberg reek you two always impart on your movies. Oh, and when you see Steve next, ask him to write a movie once in a while without somehow shoving Nazis into it.

He should have retired before he made those three horrible prequels and badly updated the original three. Thanks for ruining Star Wars George! On second thought, there are a few more movie series that I'm sure Lucas can ruin. How about a Die Hard prequel that shows John McLean at the police academy. George, you should have hung it up long ago!

Irvin, you've been in the business long enough to know it's THX 1138, not THX 1128.

And all Lucas would have to do is buy the rights to some of the hundreds, nay, thousands of Star Wars books that have been written since the first three movies came out. It can't be all that hard, unless he doesn't want to spend anymore money to make a whole helluva lot more money. Doesn't he have a little country somewhere he would like to buy?

This is the best news EVER, although I wish he would make THX1128(2) or American Graffiti 2 so he would have less time to destroy the art that OTHERS have brought to the big screen. Check the credits, Lucas didn't direct ESB or RoTJ, yet he feels like he can alter them as much as he pleases... I wish he had gone away in 1984.

It is overall said that God created the earth in 6 days then rested on the 7th day. George Lucas should make one last Star Wars with many of the original cast members from the first 3 star wars and end with a 11 Academy Award winning super production which tells the story in which Mark Hamill Luke Skywalker now a full trained Jedi Master along with Princess Leia Carrie Fischer works with Harrison Ford who is now a general in the republic and married to Princess leia. All the original Jedis are resurrected from the nether world as they transport themselves from being just ghosts to actual Jedis again with the power of the force. While the Empire is dead and gone the final battle between the remaining Sith and bounty hunters and mercenaries in the Galaxy still remains for absolute peace. I think George Lucas would reconsider making a Star Wars especially if he listened to his biggest fans. I would love to see a Star Wars film which tells what happens in the future after the events of Return of the Jedi when the Emperor died. If Lucas is smart he would re-invent the design and instead of relying so much on computer generated technology he will make the Star Wars episode 7 a more realistic fillm with animatronic aliens. While special effects would play a big role in the film the film would be huge in terms of building something spectacular that all die hard Star Wars fans have hoped to see what they did not in the pre-quels.

Or he could just license the property to someone who is competent...start by rebooting those awful prequels, and if that meets success, follow up with parts 4-9.

If in part 7, 8, 9 – this one when Han Solo married Leia and Luke goes out looking for Jedi to join. a sinster side of the Dark Forces kidnapped the twins from Han Solo, then Leia goes into serious depression, Han Solo can't leave but calls in favors to help. Leia goes into Jedi mind trying to find Luke while he trains other Jedis, then when connect, Luke calls his old friends and young Jedi to come and fight, the biggest, baddest, and grandest fight of them all. All color of lightsabers going on, X-wings, Y-wings, the Falcon, Chewie and his pals in Wookies come out to fight and then just before it got worst, Luke saved his nephew and niece and bring to Leia then she got well.

San Francisco and Hollywood has plenty of writers eager to take on this challenge. Go ahead and take a vacation. When you come back the script will be ready and lets get this done for the fans. Remember, it was the fans (moms, dads, and kids all over the world) coupled with your hard work that made you rich. Let's do this!

What he fails to realize is that the very reason people "yell at him" is the reason he *should* continue the story. He created a true modern mythology that goes well beyond 'pop culture phenomenon'. People love and care about the story; it has become part of our culture. Would Mr. Lucas prefer people DON'T respond to Star Wars on an emotional level?

Im in my late 30s and realize that seeing new star wars as an adult might leave a different impression on me. You who complain over them have NOT grown up. He made these movies for you whiney ass babies that cried and begged for more for 16 years. GROW UP. As for anyone else who thinks its a good idea for someone else to do star wars wake up. He has a point...if I were him I probably wouldn't make any more. If people want to yell and scream at you and think of all sorts of mean names to call you because they disagree with how you made your movies, I don't see how that is incentive to make more? If people wanted more star wars they shouldn't moaned and whined about the ones he did give. (Though I have to admit I hated the new trilogy.)

  66. May The Force be with Lucas

I think Lucas has earned his retirement and shouldn't be pressured into making more Star Wars films.

Star Wars fans now know the saga has 'officially' ended, but it won't stop the love and support of the Star Wars fan community. Fans will always find a ways to add onto the Star Wars universe; Such as making fan fiction, fan-made films and other shoot-off stories, artwork, ideas or concepts. I'm not too worried about it.

I just serenely hope people quit harassing Lucas about the prequels. –Enough is enough.

Not true. Originally he laid out 9 films. The first three released were ep 4-6, the rebellion. The next three were ep 1-3, as flash back showing the Clone Wars and the creation of the Empire. The three, 7-9, were to take up after the death of the Emperor and the re-establishment of the New Republic.

Some are still waiting for the final three.

Just as was the case with Gene Roddenberry of Star Trek, when Lucas dies, there will be more Star Wars movies made.

So what if one producer retires who is he in your personal life, no one. There are better things than starwas. How about real wars. maybe he is building a space ship so he can fly away.

Star Wars films were okay (only because of the special effects-would have been better than okay if I hadn't felt like I'd lost 20% of my hearing when the movie ended). Thank goodness George Lucas realized that enough is enough!

Fine, let him be retired. Just let people with talent write the script and direct it. Problem solved. JJ Abrams did just find with the Star Trek reboot.

Thank God! Now George Lucas won't make any more crap. The last good movie he directed was A New Hope. The last good movie he produced was Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. As far as I'm concerned, he's been retired for a long time. Good riddance.

I totally agree. If he actually took the time and gave the fans what they wanted rather than re-releasing and re-releasing the Star Wars movie maybe he wouldn't get so much criticism.
