'Dancing with the Stars' reveals season 14 castThe upcoming season of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" could be the most difficult yet for the popular series. "Dancing" once ruled the Monday night ratings roost, but with NBC starting to show muscle with "The Voice," the Tom Bergeron-hosted affair is facing pressure to step it up for its 14th season, especially after critics took umbrage with the series' lack of star power in recent seasons. So who will be hoofing it up for season 14? This season's stars, revealed this morning on ABC's "Good Morning America," are:
Jack Wagner - The soap star, who currently appears on "The Bold and the Beautiful," is also quite the golfer, having won the American Century Celebrity Golf Classic on two occasions. Melissa Gilbert - The TV icon played "Half Pint" Laura Ingalls on "Little House on the Prairie." Donald Driver - The 13-year NFL veteran is the all-time receptions leader in Green Bay Packers history, and was selected to play in four Pro Bowls. William Levy - Levy is a popular telenovela actor who appeared in the music video for Jennifer Lopez's "I'm Into You." Sherri Shepherd - The "View" co-host hopes to be "bicoastal" for as long as possible as she steps into the "Dancing" arena. Katherine Jenkins - The Welsh-born mezzo-soprano performed on an episode of "Dancing" last season. Gavin DeGraw - The singer/songwriter has had five Top 40 hits since 2004, including "I Don't Want to Be" and "Not Over You." Martina Navratilova - The tennis legend hopes to do better than fellow "racquet queen" Monica Seles, who was the second celebrity eliminated on the sixth season of the show. Roshon Fegan - Teens and pre-teens know this 20-year-old for his role as Ty on Disney Channel's "Shake It Up." Maria Menounos - The "Extra" correspondent has an unblemished record in World Wrestling Entertainment, winning both of her matches. Jaleel White - Known by millions for his portrayal of nerdy Steve Urkel on "Family Matters," White is now hosting the upcoming Syfy game show "Total Blackout." Gladys Knight - The legendary singer has won 11 Grammy awards in a career spanning nearly six decades. What do you think of this season's "Dancing" cast? Martina, I have a feeling, might do pretty well. She is competative. And to all the haters....DON'T WATCH. Simple as that.
I think they have a pretty good lineup this time around. I grew up watching "Little House" and am excited to see how Melissa does. She will always be remembered for playing one of the most beloved characters on TV. She was also president of the Screen Actors' Guild, so I don't get how anyone could say she isn't a star. And Jack Wagner has been a star of the soap opera world for almost 30 years, Jaleel White originated another memorable (if not completely annoying) TV character, so I'dsay that makes him a star as well. And Martina is a tennis legend, so I'd say that counts as a star.
This Cast is about as bad as having 14 Nancy Graces.. Just terrible..

The article asks "What do you think?" Well, I think I couldn't give a damn one way or the other, if you would like to know the truth. Some of us are too busy trying to make a living so people on welfare and other people who work for a living can sit there and watch DWTS.
Everyone knows who Melissa Gilbert is, even if they recognize her from "Little House" but don't know her name. I remember the name Gladys Knight (the name that comes before "the Pips") but (and I mean no disrespect) wouldn't recognize her if she was the only other person in the room. As for the rest, I still don't know who the hell they are AFTER reading their descriptions. People who watched "Dancing WITH the stars" never gave a crap about dancing. We only tuned-in to see (beloved movie) *stars* learn to do something out of their element, in order to entertain us. I couldn't bring myself to watch last season, and I can't remember if I watched the season before that one. But, I'M BEGGING ... PLEASE PULL THE PLUG AND LET IT DIE!!!

So many people like to go on and on every season how "I've never heard of them" or "What a bunch of has-beens" blah blah blah. Which of these people are stars? A few are or were minor celebrities at best. I suppose Gladys Night WAS a relatively successful singer, but a "star"? And Martina Navratilova was a great tennis "star". But come on, that was 30 years ago. Who are these other people? They should call it, "Dancing with the Celebrity B-list or Lower" Now, if they could get people like George Clooney, Morgan Freeman, Harrison Ford, Kristen Wigg, Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jr. or Gwenyth Paltrow etc., then they can call it Dancing with the Stars. Otherwise, it's just a sad parade of has beens or never weres. I think they should breathe some life into it by letting one NON-celebrity average person win a sort of lottery to compete right up there, toe to toe with the "Stars".

Don't you people realize that the cast is supposed to be past stars or well-know people that are not quite celebrities. It's always been that way and no one has ever claimed that DWTS was about big-name current stars. So, if you don't like to watch that kind of thing. . . .. don't. Simple as that.
I don't. Because I don't watch anything so pathetic that it has to pretend to be something more than what it actually is. I'm surprised Cybil Sheppard hasn't been up there yet. Actually, I think that will be next season when they start scraping the bottom of the celebrity toilet bowl for has-beens to humiliate themselves.

For all these negative people. Melissa Gilbert (has been and will always be a star), Martina (Amazing Tennis player), Erkel (a star in his times), William Levy (Latin Soap Opera), Donald Driver.. Like these people are in the business. What do you guys think Angelina Jolie is going to come on the show. Like be for real? The show is what it is... I think Gilbert will bring in a lot of the older viewers, Driver and Marting , the sport viewers and Levy will bring the Hispanic viewers since he is a Hot one on the Latin List.
There are only a couple of people worth watching this year. I think the producers and directors are scraping the bottom of the barrel. Maybe next year the show will be cancelled because they can't find anyone worth while to recruit.

Ah, the primetime "jewel" of television shows is back. Dancing With the Stars, or "DWTS" for short- or, what I call, "Poop AND Crap moving to music". 13 has-beens looking for a paycheck, so instead of turning to porn or a reality show with Coery Feldman, they look to ABC, or "Already Been Canceled" for short. Tune in as annoying toilet seat cover Urkel tries to cha-cha his way past William "I sniffed J-Lo" Levy. Get your popcorn ready, and pass me a gun to shoot myself in the head.
Quit the negative comments. First, I bet half of you didn't know who J. R. Martinez was before he was on DWTS, and he is such an inspiration. If you still don't know who he is, Google him before you make any nasty comments. Second, as far as "reality tv" goes, this is one of the only shows families can watch together that mainly focuses on hard work and cooperation. If you don't like it, don't watch. However, if you've ever watched The Real World, Wipeout, Gene Simmons Family Jewels or any of the Real Housewives of wherever, you are not allowed to trash this show. Finally, I bet a large majority of the "celebrities" donate any earnings from the show to charity.

They should officially change the name of this show to Dancing With the "Stars." I've never seen an episode of this mediocrity parade and certainly won't start watching this year.

For those who don't consider these people to be stars, who do you consider stars? There's an 11 time grammy winning singer, one of the greatest tennis players of all time, two of the most famous child stars of all time, a soap opera star, a talk show host, a singer with 5 top 40 songs, a current NFL player, a Disney channel star, and an entertainment news show host. If these aren't stars, who would you like to see?
They might have been stars at one time but now they are a bunch of has beens. Gladys is probably the most famous out of all of them. If they want to make it entertaining, get some real stars out there. Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Chris Rock, Rihanna, Adele, Taylor Swift,......anybody that we know. If you have to give an explanation of what they are "famous" for, they they really aren't celebrities to begin with.

I'm totally with you on that. I adore Gladys Knight. The lady is a class act, and has a sweet spirit to top it off. I'll love to watch her. I think she's great.

Will not watch because of the judges, especially Carrie Ann Anota. Otherwise, have always enjoyed the professionals and dancers, regardless of who they might be. Get rid of the judges.
Some of us watch because of Carrie-Ann. And for Anna Trebunskaya. And Cheryl Burke. I almost don't care who the stars or "stars" are as, for me, there's already three great reasons to watch.
People, this show was never about featuring well known celebrities. They were going for people who were in the industry who perhaps weren't that well known. It really doesn't matter who they choose, because this show and shows like these are all about dumbing down America, and it sadly seems to be succeeding.

I love how this show claims to use "stars". They've gutted themselves with B, C, and D list individuals and now it's just desperation. A celebrity with an ounce of status in their career knows better than to be cast on this show. It's nearly as bad as "Celebrity" Apprentice. Makes me glad I've never seen an episode of either.
I can't wait until it starts. It's still good entertainment.

Hello, people! This is DWTS! It's premise alone tells you it's going to be wannabes, once was, athletes having fun in the off season and a "who" or two. They're not going to get the George Clooneys, Jennifer Anistons or Andrew Luck's of the world. As a Vkings fa, it pains me to root for Driver. He most likely will be donating his pay to charity because he's a stand-up guy. Who should play for MN!

What a snoozer this will be. Too bad they couldn't get Tebow–he would have been ratings Gold.
Tebow is so uncoordinated. He throws the football like it's a frisbee. Yeah, sure, the Broncos made the playoffs but I say it was a case of a team dragging their QB along. Elway better draft well.
I love Gavin DeGraw, but I still won't watch. They are really scraping the bottom of the D-List barrel with this crew.
I am actually FLOORED that Gavin is going to be on this show. He seems too... established in his career to do this. He's past the "desperate to be noticed/breaking into the scene" and is nowhere near the "career peaked, but still loved by fans" phase.
The real stars are the incredible pros. These celebs are dancing with them and getting a lot of good exercise in the process.
I actually like the cast for a change.

I gave up on the "stars" a long time ago. How many celebrities are out there? This is season 14, folks. Fourteen. The bottom of the barrel is in sight. The best part of the show are the costomes, and Tom Bergeron. He is the only star worth watching, and he's a hoot.
If only we didn't have to watch Tom's co-host Brooke or Whatever-her-name-is. She is the most nothing host I've ever seen. Asks the stupidest questions of the contestants, and stands around looking vapid the rest of the time.

DWTS is such a fun, positive, uplifting show, it doesn't matter who they choose each season. Looking forward to seeing who has natural talent & who I'll root for to get better.

Steve Urkel being the big star? Come on now! If you are on Twitter on a regular basis, people like me and Sitcoms Online have been trying to get actresses Christine Lakin and Jodie Tweetin from that same "TGIF" line-up for years, because they actually WANTED to perform on it! Granted they both didn't have a tagline like "Did I do that?", but Christine has become a well-respected actress, great voice-over talent on "Family Guy", and is in charge of Worst Audition Ever in CA, while Jodie has written an excellent book ("UnSweetined") about her fall and rise back to the top due to her past drug use, and is a great mother to her two daughters as well. ABC should treat their alumni with more respect, and not put an actor on "DWTS" because of one tagline that was overrun for almost 10 years!

Yes, she is "G@y" but then last season they had Carson Kressly (sp?), and although he wasn't very talented as a dancer, he was a blast to watch, and he had a female dance partner. So....I don't see the problem. They aren't planning a match date or anything...
Every season one has to filter through the "they call these stars?!?!!!" posts as if in past seasons the "stars" were any closer to A list than the current. Every season I normally recognize about three so this feels about on par with other years. I got a smile for Melissa because every girl my age wanted to be Laura Ingalls and the geek in me had a wee squee moment over Jaleel. My 6 yr old son has been watching old Sonic episodes so it will be fun to show him the real person behind the voice.
actually I think the recognizable list is getting pretty slim these days. They usually have at least one big get, this year there isn't even one person to really get behind. This is by far the most pathetic line-up I've ever seen

It's a little mean and wrong to say they're no ones. They're in the entertainment business in one way or another. Not everyone gets to the Brad Pitt level of fame, but that doesn't make them any less good as performers. And they're up there giving it they're all, while the rest of us are at home doing a whole lot of nothing and just watching other people do things.

Or one could argue that interesting people in an art form that was sadly dying is preserving culture even if it does use minor celebrities to accomplish the goal. Perhaps you don't value dancing, but many people do. I myself study ballet and attend contra dances and am happy to see attention brought to ballroom.

Your remark is pretty dumb. I read several books a week and still enjoy waltching DWTS. It's enjoyable to watch people attempting to do their best in a demanding venue that is outside their comfort zone. You may not have an interest base that is broad enough to recognize that each of these people are well known in their own genre.
Stars? Keep Sherri Shepard away from the the buffet table. That "star" can't pass food without shoving it in her mouth, at least that will shut her up.

Actually, most of these people are truly stars in their own divisions of entertainment. Martina is a legend in tennis, for pete's sake, and Jack Wagner is very famous in the soap opera genre. Those who aren't legends are still well known in their demographics.
No reality show nimrods, no politicians, and girlfriends or ex-wives of famous people – if nothing else, I'm thrilled for that!

Not one star in the lot that I would want to watch, sadly. The mix that the show gets for celebrities is no longer inspiring. Last season was the same way and it looks like this is, as well.

I have to agree in regards to Sheri. She may be on The View but there's no way you can call her a STAR. Whoopi is a star but not Sheri. In fairness, quite a few of the others as in past years can hardly be called stars either. This show, along with IDOL is little more than a cheap glitzy popularity contest. There's no talent contest here at all. It's a joke.
