Ahead of the curve: Weekly pop culture calendar

If you grew up reading Dr. Seuss' "The Lorax," then you must be as thrilled as we are.

The animated film adaptation of the Seuss tale, starring Zac Efron, Taylor Swift and Danny DeVito, will arrive in theaters on Friday, March 2. The story follows Ted (Efron), who tries to win the affections of Audrey (Swift) by searching for a tree, something that the town's residents have never seen before. He eventually learns the story of the Lorax (DeVito), the guardian of the land, and tries to remind his town of the importance of nature.

Here's what else you shouldn't miss this week:


  • Catch  a new episode of "The Bachelor" at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, when Ben must choose the final two from the three remaining contestants.
  • James Caan will guest star on "Hawaii Five-0" as a retired NYPD bomb expert at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.


  • Viewer voting finally begins on "American Idol" at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
  • Watch the season 3 finale of "Parenthood" at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
  • Books coming out this week are: "Lone Wolf" by Jodi Picoult; "Victims" by Jonathan Kellerman; "Redwood Bend" by Robyn Carr; and "Spellbound Falls" by Janet Chapman.
  • If you've been waiting to get your hands on the critically acclaimed "Hugo," your wait is over. The movie will be coming out on DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3-D today.
  • Music albums being released today include "Release Me" by Lyle Lovett and "Roses" by The Cranberries.


  • Watch new episodes of "Suburgatory," "Modern Family" and "Happy Endings" starting at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
  • "Psych" returns after the cliffhanger of a midseason finale with Shawn and Gus teaming up with Despereaux to locate a mythical dagger at 10 p.m. ET on USA.


  • Watch all-new episodes of "30 Rock," "Parks and Recreation," "The Office" and "Up All Night" starting at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
  • Catch the series premiere of "Awake" at 10 p.m. ET on NBC. The show follows a detective who lives in two parallel worlds after a car accident.


  • Reba McEntire will be the latest celeb to get insight into her ancestry in "Who Do You Think You Are?" at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
  • In addition to "The Lorax," movies arriving in theaters today include  "Tim & Eric's Billion Dollar Movie" with Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis, and "Bel Ami" with Robert Pattinson, Christina Ricci, Uma Thurman and Kristin Scott Thomas.

    I don't know why The Middle was not mentioned on Wednesday nights (personal vendetta against the show?), but it is new as well, and comes right before the other shows you mentioned at 8pm.
