It's not just her music career that Whitney Houston has suddenly left behind, but her film career as well.
At the time of her death, Fox 2000 Pictures was working on a sequel to 1995's "Waiting to Exhale," which was adapted from Terry McMillan's best-selling novel. All of the original actors - Angela Bassett, Lela Rochon, Loretta Devine and Whitney Houston - were to return, with Forest Whitaker directing.
The sequel is set to be adapted from McMillan's 2010 follow-up, "Getting to Happy."
The president of Fox 2000, Elizabeth Gabler, told New York Magazine's Vulture that she didn't think Houston would want the movie project to fade away in light of her death.
"It's almost in her honor that we think to soldier on," Gabler said.
A spokesperson for 20th Century Fox adds in a statement that the project is very much still in its early stages.
“The script is only in development," 20th Century Fox tells CNN. "We had no proposed start date or release date. As of now, we have only just dealt with our sadness about Whitney's untimely passing and have not decided what to do with the casting, role, or script.”
Gabler said as much while speaking to Vulture, noting, "We literally have not talked about anybody for that part. Forest, I know, is just ... grieving. He’d been the one who was speaking with her, updating [Houston] on its progress."
In the meantime, Houston will make her posthumous return to the big screen in August in "Sparkle."
