Does Brand have anything to do with Katy Perry's Grammys song?

Katy Perry's "Part of Me" performance was in good company at Sunday's Grammys, as she wasn't the only one singing of broken hearts and relationships gone wrong.

Adele, the current queen of lovelorn pop songs, also took the stage to croon about getting played to the beat after handing her heart over to a paramour.

It's possible that Perry's fiery performance of her new single was just keeping in line with that theme, or perhaps she was singing generally of the emotions one has after a break-up. Or, as some have questioned, maybe those lyrics were inspired by recent events in her personal life.

The 27-year-old pop star, who recently reached a settlement agreement in her divorce from her husband Russell Brand, belted out lyrics like, "Days like this I want to drive away...You chewed me up, and spit me out, like I was poison in your mouth...But that was then, and this is now. Now look at me, this is the part of me that you're never ever going to take away from me."

The song continues, "You ripped me off/your love was cheap/it was always tearing at the seams/I fell deep/you let me down/but that was then and this is now."

Perhaps most tellingly, Perry sings, "You can keep the diamond ring/It don't mean nothing anyway/In fact you can keep everything/Except for me." (As far as the rumors go, though, Brand didn't want any of his ex's earnings that she brought in during their brief marriage.)

Helpfully, the lyrics are spelled out in a video for the just released track.

Adele's massively successful "21" was the result of a "rubbish relationship," as she said last night at the Grammys when she picked up the album of the year award, and perhaps Perry is also turning a dissolved romance into another potential hit - or maybe it's way more general than we're all presuming.

What do you think - could Brand have been something of an inspiration? And more importantly, do you like the song?

Whoever this song IS about, or whoever it touches, it will always remind me of how unfortunate it was that this happy union did not last, I really adored them as indiviuals, as performers, and mostly, together as a couple. They were a very sweet, loving, warm affectionate couple, I wish they would try a LITTLE harder to make it work, maybe think it over a little longer, ya never know........As a fan of both, I wish them both nothing but the best of happiness andd success in all their future endeavors, they are BOTH great talents and people as well, I will miss seeing them together! PCM ( I am in an odd "demographic "group" to be fans of theirs, I am a 56 year old mother of 2, grandmother of 4, lifelong Hairstylist, that said, they BOTH appeal to alot larger of a community than even they know!) Sorry for this time of sadness for them both. PS* Maybe none of them were singing about anyone particular, it was a great night of wonderful music and performances, by all! God bless ALL the talent at the Grammys, please, to all there, DO NOT SQAUNDER YOUR GOD GIVEN TALENTS< as some of recent news have! STAY STRONG, and may God keep you all out of harms way, thank you for the wonderful night of music, love, and glamour, too! <3 PCM

This song isn't about Russell Brand. Proof: it's been out for over a year (since Dec. 2010) but only officially released now. Dig deeper than just the song lyrics before assuming things. (Source:–part-of-me-new-song-news.html)

Katy and Adele weren't the only ones. What about who Taylor Swift was singing to? Can you say Kanye?

Katy seems angry and bitter, normal after a divorce. But I don't like making these things public.
