Whitney Houston's final performance?

The music industry is reeling from the death of Whitney Houston, particularly those who saw Houston this weekend in Los Angeles.

The legendary entertainer was in town for Grammy Awards events, and was spotted Thursday in the ballroom of the Beverly Hilton as Monica and Brandy rehearsed to perform at Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy gala, which went on as planned Saturday evening.

A video of Houston performing with Kelly Price (which comes courtesy VGS&L/Steve Jones @iamstevejones) has been circulating on the Web, and is said to have been taken on Thursday at a pre-Grammys party.

I hope that kids can learn from this tragedy, that a life of drugs, can still end up in premature death. Myteensavers counselors treat teen addicts. We are seeing a disturbing patten of kids trying drugs at a younger age. More kids are abusing prescription drugs. The latest government stats show that 4,000 kids try drugs for the first time every day. 2,500 of those experimenting are using prescription drugs.

Parents need to make sure their kids don't end this way. The Houston tragedy is a good way to introduce the topic of drugs at home, if it hasn't been discussed already. Parents could also utilize home drug tests to make sure that experimentation doesn't turn into addiction.

Now to you who continue to bash, berate and put down our beautiful Legendary Whitney Houston so intensely at this sad and YES, so shocking time of her death of not even yet 3 days ago, you are lifeless, inhumane, idiots. You fools act like she is the only one in the United States of America who is affected or was affected and ultimately died in their addictions! Celebrities are not the only ones who suffer backlashes, relapse and death from drugs, in this country alone most of the sick and dying are NOT them or members of the 1per-cent...at all! The biggest percentage of drug and alcohol abuse and death comes out of the middle-class and the poor, YOUR SECTION of the American society! You should be screaming to the 'powers that be' your government...local, state and federal to get SERIOUS about the so-called, so-claimed 'WAR on DRUGS'!! If you believe this system is really trying to abolish drugs, you are sadly mistaken. Drugs is one of Americas biggest lucrative commodities! As far as your remark on 'dealers', small-time street dealers don't have access to the security, boats and planes to go out and get them, or have them 'shipped' back here! You should be screaming at the 'suppliers', the sponsors, the stockholders, the partners in crime...the folks who are making the REAL MONEY at the TOP, at the expense of so many American lives! Drugs couldn't be purchased by anyone if they weren't 'for sale'! Who's selling them?? Drugs are killing Americans....and America doesn't care!! Drugs are addictive whether they are FDA, pharmaceutically prescribed or socially consumed...they are all alien to the bodys' mental and physical, PERIOD! But many of you rather justify it by blaming the brain-dead, sick and dying victims!! How unreasonable, small-minded and stupid!

Furthermore, it never fails that what goes around comes right back around to kick you in the head. It's not always what goes into your mouth that can hurt you, many times it's what comes out of it! Freedom ain't free....especially when it's used to hurt or teardown. SOMEBODY ALWAYS HAS TO PAY...either the intended victim or the perpetrator or both!

All of you disrespecful trolls out here on the blogs are the most hateful, vindictive people I've wondered across recently! You are animals who need to be euthanized yourselves! Whatever is found to be the cause of her death, the world still lost a legend, OK? There will surely be other voices that emulate or can imitate 'THE VOICE', however God gave the world only ONE Whitney Houston, OK? As far as your nasty, negative views, claims and sick rhetoric you all are finding it necessary to post about her, Bobby and the rest of her family and friends, at this painfully sad time for the rest of the intelligent world, you and/or your children WILL be paying dearly for it! You folk act more like the ego-tripping, arrogant, heartless, inhumane, compassionless, untouchable CRACKHEADS!! None of you have a Heaven nor a Hell to put anybody in....so don't be so bold and flippant about what has happened to Whitney and her death! You don't know how you or your loved ones will be leaving up out of here! The power of life and death is in the tongue...don't keep trying bash and dig ditches for Whitney Houston 'the greatest love of all' to fall into and YOU end up falling into them your demonic selves! The word is mightier than the sword, and as a man thinketh so is he. By the way you heathens did Michael Jackson the same way and I don't remember reading this much nastiness and name-calling when Amy Winehouse and Anna Nichole Smith died.

Obviously she took part in taking drugs. No one forced her, but I blame the people that managed her Career. They should of been looking out for her and kept a closer tab on her personal life and gave her better advice when she started getting into drugs. She was most likely depressed and unhappy when she met Bobby Brown who made her feel good about herself at first ! Unfortunately, Bobby was looking for someone to party with because he also, was an upcoming star and wanted to celebrate his new fortune and unfortunately it involved in partying with drugs and alcohol. Guidance is the one thing they both missed out on. Their managers were too busy counting the money they were earning instead of looking out for their welfare. Greed that was the main factor in their demise , so the wrong people who managed their affairs is the making of their downfalls! Think about it. That is what happens to most of the people who are celebrities.

Whitney Houston, was a beautiful woman that had a voice designed and anointed by God. None of us are perfect, and people are truly hurting because Whitney is no longer with us. Especially her family. It's so easy for us all to point our bony fingers and judge but it is hard to be in the spotlight. All, I can say is thank God that my life isn't played out in the media, I would be a train wreck. No matter, what Whitney dabbled into you cannot take away that this woman had a voice like no other human being of our time. No one can compare to her voice and as much as I think J-Hud can sing she can't compare but I know that her tribute will be worthy of honoring Ms. Houston. God Bless her family, each and every one of them because Whitney Houston was a force. A presence. A voice. A human just like all of us so let's celebrate her and give her the respect and honor that is due. God Bless you Whitney, I know you are singing in God's Heavenly Choir now and at peace.

it's almost like HEROIN COCAINE speedballs, buying kilos...yes she's talking about years ago but she was also in rehab a year ago and there have been rumors about her daughter (which she denies and chalks up to an ex trying to make money but then Whitney denied crap and changed her stories)...

The 47-year-old singer confessed to being a cocaine addict herself in a 2009 TV interview with Oprah Winfrey and admitted her and her ex-husband Bobby's drug use spiraled out of control after she starred in hit movie 'The Bodyguard' in 1992.

She said: "Me and Bobby were lacing our marijuana with base. We would buy a kilo. We were not pipe smoking.

"You roll it up and you smoke it in your weed. It's almost like heroin cocaine speedballs but you level it off with marijuana."

Strange how all these female singers are dying alone, in a hotel room or at home, but with no witnesses. Vesta,
Amy Winehouse, and there where a few more and now Whitney. My question is, who gains from these deaths. Is there a bigger picture happening with other motives. Surely these women did not want to die. So what's the real connection or can all this really be coincidence. It will be interesting to hear what a coroner will say the cause of death really is. Everyone seems to assume that the cause of death was drugs without even hearing or knowing of a professional toxicology report. In any case, the truth will all come out later, lets stay tuned for the real deal.

Jean, sorry but it is extremely hard to believe Whitney Houston was a good mother. People spinning it that someone who was in and out of rehab and partying and doing drugs and then dies at 48 and is gone from her daughter's life is somewhat irresponsible especially if you're concerned about protecting her legacy. Her daughter loves her and all that but "good mother" is stretching credibility. I've seen the pain of that in a young adult child, the child will always love (bad choice of words) the parent in that situation but there is likely to be some deep pain about the priorities of the parent ultimately.

CNN has an opportunity to speak out about the causes of all these celebrity deaths related to self-abuse via drugs, prescription drugs, alcohol (all is one in the same when abused or done too much) when the most people are listening but they are more concerned about paying tribute to a singer's career that basically occurred many years ago. Now is the time to promote to everyone especially young people but everyone is all concerned about having a piece of the action and idolizing her. You can talk about her career, voice and be way more balanced (uh how about going over her timeline of abuse, rehab and everything else). How about the consequences to her daughter?

celebs wonder why the public reacts the way they do and it's coverage like this that half makes me sick. Pity party for Whitney because she was under pressure, the paparazzi was always after her, Bobby Brown killed her (though he obviously contributed, she is responsible for herself sorry all you Whitney enablers and lovers but it's the truth. Sad when anyone dies and no one is perfect but she was irresponsible and paid with her life). Journalists like aj hammer saying he was shocked about Whitney Houston but not Amy Winehouse (whitney was much older and subjected herself to abuse for longer and her body was more vulnerable and you play with fire you can get burned at any time). It was shocking, so was Amy Winehouse but neither were surprising. whitney also has a daughter. Whitney also did not come out nearly enough speaking out against the drugs and alcohol. Meanwhile the coverage is imbalanced, catering to her legacy....hits and singing are more important from 25 years ago than telling the public and young people what led her down a path of self-abuse and addiction. Whether or not it caused her death in some fashion (either doing prescription drugs, abuse taking it's toll, etc), it should be discussed as much as her singing. a more balanced approach like it was with AW but see AW was not as Hollywood as WH so the talent and success vs the problems were talked about equally.

To those that gives negatives comments about Whitney i have some advices to give you. Go back to your listening of Rap and Hip Hop singers who have no singing talents whatsoever. Whitney had a natural talent that is not given to everyone. There is a difference between singing a song with a talent and making a song in which you only talk in. Yes, yes it's very sad... Another so called star dead, another star who went off the rails, took drugs, drank, lived to excess. What do you expect?

Do you really think she was in touch with reality, kept her feet on the ground, lived a normal life? No! – she was surrounded by people who said, yes, yes, yes, no matter what she wanted.

She led a life of indulgence, and excess, and in the end, no matter how sad it is, she paid the ultimate price for it.

This is what happens to too many of the stars. They have the access, money, and time to do drugs. Drugs make people feel real good, I know because decades ago I experimented, stupidly, in college. If I'd have had the money, access, and time I would have died before I stopped enjoying the immense pleasure of drugs. Drugs make you feel euphoric, like you're living in nirvana, but it's temporary and then you die young. And, before you die young it interferes with and/or destroys your life. Now that I'm old I would love to feel the nirvana of drugs but I know that it would truly kill me. It wouldn't kill me right away, but it would within too many years. And I may have to live under a freeway underpass and sale my body to get the drugs. There are a lot of people that are actually selling their bodies as pleasure toys for other people so that they can get the nirvana that is drugs. It is a huge trade-off.

And let me add that if I started selling my body I could have a huge amount of money, access, and time because even though I'm in my mid-50's I'm a very good looking man. My wife though, is a beeoootch and won't let me sell my body. I guess though that she actually is saving my life by not letting me sell my body so that I can get drugs, access, and time. Well, I've got to go to work now and make a little money, but I guess even though I'm not rich and famous I'll live twice as long as a lot of the stars.

You are right!!!! She was an artist that threw it all away for drugs. It was her choice to take them...Nobody else can actually take the blame. Such sorrow

She just needed to warm up her voice all the time. If she had kept it in shape, she would be singing superbly until old age. That's what opera singers do– they vocalise daily. I loved her duet with Mariah–When you believe. Whitney will be back on earth when Jesus comes back, cause she's still alive–in heaven.

I do admit that Bobby might have gotten her hooked but she left him almost 5yrs ago and still was fighting the demons. She had been sober, be to rehab a few times, according to Gladys Knight – stepped in a few times to do an intervention and still the same horrible results. Some poeple cant handle being hooked on drugs or alcohol like others. Bobby may still be using but he azz is still alive and we lost the greatest singer. I don't think she was every gonna come back because her voice was ruined. We all have to take responsibility for our actions, try to stay away for bad influence and negative people.
She can't blame anyone for this... its like Mike wanting to go to sleep, well he got the long one, yes the Dr was wrong but he was hooked on drugs too. Lets just pray for their soul and anyone else that might be struggling to overcome.

Her voice was larger than life.
I don't know anyone of her generation who doesn't have a memory linked to one of her songs.

You are so right Kim. Love or hate her music, she was an icon, and for a time held an unparalleled position in the music industry. Her "voice" will live way beyond the memories that most of us will leave behind.

I'd have LOVED to HEAR Whitney's last bit of song ...why don't people SHUT UP when someone is going to sing so we can hear her?

Only white folk have the since to shut their loud mouths up when an entertainer tries to sing. Perhaps the crowd she was trying to sing to appreciated their own loud abrasive mouths more than her sweet voice.

I'm sure no one thinks or would be thinking "Hey this could be her last time singing. I better be quiet." We take life for granted. I'm sure those people thought it was just another performance by her. Could any of us have thought differently?

People are morons that's why. It's an intimate setting. You don't scream over someones performance. If it's a huge concert venue with a massive sound system, have at it.

you should pray for her daughter. In the end she and her daughter pays for years of drug/alcohol abuse most likely and she had all the money in the world to find something else to do and all the talent in the world to make something of herself beyond her twenties. I saw one of my good friends commit suicide in his 40's with a beautiful daughter in college at the age of 21. Whitney likely committed suicide over a much longer time period, not completely intentional but she knew full well the toll it took on her and her body. Reveling in her singing talent from years ago is not the reaction. Mourn her death a little, we all are imperfect but don't put her on a pedestal. She squandered her talent, then herself, then ultimately left her daughter. Sad but again don't put her on a pedestal. I mourned my buddy's death which had a pall of his selfishness cast over his daughter and other family.

And if you're going to abuse drugs and alcohol , don't have children.

STFU. God, the whining. She was Amy Winehouse with fewer performances, period. Amy's fan killed her by paying for her product, knowing full well she was buying drugs with the proceeds. Whitney had a loser husband "helping" her along. She got what she deserved, sad is that is.

@"disgusted". Obviously you live through these people because you have a void in your life. She's dead, it was probably her fault. CNN doesn't have anyone watching their shows, so why would they watch a forum with a bunch of pathetic whiners. You're the type of guy (probably) that sat in the bathroom sobbing when he heard the news. I take it as a positive, just like M.J. The kids are safer. With Whitney, the drug dealer is one customer lighter.

I think we call it freedom of speech....however...unlike many things CNN airs...or posts...there is some very sad truth to this. Whitney made bad choices....beginning with her husband, then drugs...and she paid the ultimate price for it...her life. It is what it is.....and it isn't pretty.
