Watch: Jeremy Renner in 'Bourne Legacy' trailer

The "Bourne" franchise is carrying on without Matt Damon, and as the trailer for "The Bourne Legacy" tells us, "there was never just one."

Enter Jeremy Renner, who's filling the shoes of a new agent after Damon passed on continuing Jason Bourne's story.

Directed and written by Tony Gilroy, "The Bourne Legacy" sees Renner as Aaron Cross, although he refers to himself as Kenneth in the new trailer. Either way, we're told in the clip that he's part of the Outcome program –"Treadstone without the inconsistency" - and that he can heal remarkably well.

"Jason Bourne," says Edward Norton's character, Byer, "was just the tip of the iceberg."

What do you think of the trailer? Damon has said that he's "really pulling for this one, even though I don't have anything to do with it. Selfishly, it's bad for me if that movie doesn't do well."

We'll find out when "The Bourne Legacy" arrives August 3.

I was just googling aronud about this when I came by your post. I'm simply visiting to say that I truly enjoyed seeing this post, it is really clear and well written. Are you going to blog more about this? It appears like there is more material here for future posts.

I love the Bourne movies and honestly was and still am somewhat skeptical about Matt Damon and Greenasdlkfjld(whatever the writer/directors name is) not being a part of the new one. HOWEVER, Jeremy Renner is a fantastic actor and the trailer is actually promising, at least with the action sequences that were shown. Seems like the story line may go either way though...I mean, he heals fast(obviously some experimental something or other)? Seems a little out of sorts with the Bourne world IMO. I understand why it is this way, that they want a clear separation between the two 'Bournes' but I just don't know if it's going to work. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it ends up being a great movie. I love the Bourne series and definitely don't want the franchise leaving the movie screen any time soon. I'll definitely be going to the theater to see this. Hopefully it won't be a let down!

Renner is awesome, but...They WANTED to make another Bourne movie with Matt Damon and the director of the last two movies. They refused. But studios want money and the Bourne series is popular, so you get "Bourne Legacy". This parody trailer says it all 🙂 http://youtube.com/watch?v=UC01Oo6szQg

Hey everyone, Matt here. Just so you all know, I'm not going to do another Bourne movie because as I said before what would they call it, "The Bourne Redundancy" where we watch Jason getting a cup of coffee?
And by the way, Renner isTHE MAN. Best guy to carry the Bourne torch there is. If you don't like it, don't watch it. Later everyone, I'm off to my zoo. How do ya like THEM apples????

    *open palm, insert face*

(I think I lost some braincells just by reading some of these idiotic comments)

Damon didn't want to do it...deal with it

Renner is NOT PLAYING JASON BOURNE

and anyone who's not watching this movie *just* because Damon isn't in it...well, that's a pretty damn silly reason...don't watch it because you honestly don't think it looks good, not out of some supposed "loyalty" to Damon...HE WON'T MIND

and last but not least, yes, it *does* help Damon if this movie does well...this one doing well promotes the first three films, which he presumably gets royalties for

People said their couldn't be a Batman after Michael Keaton. It took a while to find a good one, but Bale does it very well in a different style movie. That being said, this isn't trying to be a redo.. so we'll see. I hope it does well.. we need more kick butt action movies that have good stories. But keep in mind, the stories are now outside of Ludlum's series... so they may suck.

    • Jack_of_Arts

Really? The first movie alone was (EXTREMELY) loosely based on the book, esp. as the main antagonist of that first and the third book (Bourne Supremacy) was never mentioned or introduced. The movies became their own unique animal altogether. So this Legacy film should be no different. As far as Jeremy Renner is concerned, if Matt's pal Ben Affleck could trust him in one of his star slots in "The Town", Matt would have a degree of trust in Jeremy performance in the movie.

  34. Bourne to be a fan

The 'Legacy' continues with a huge difference and departure from the Bond and Batman movies that is refreshing. It is a continuation of the 'TreadStone' program, not a rebirth by a younger actor trying to portray an already established character, Jason Bourne. This highlights other aspects of the program that made Jason who he was. Perhaps this will delve into the darker side of the program. I think it will be a success as an action film and look forward to seeing it. Kudo's for continuing the 'Legacy'.

    ________________________________________________________________________________________________

Seriously??? How is it bad for Matt Damon if a Bourne movie he has nothing to do with does poorly? Actually I would think it would be GOOD for him. It would just go to show that there is no Bourne without Jason Bourne. Not to mention that there REALLY are no more TRUE Bourne books after Ultimatum. Even the Legacy movie would appear to be a movie – based on a story – adapted from a book – written by a guy (Van Lustbader) who based his characters on Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne. I can hear the sucking sound now!!!!!!

The only reason Israel even has a competent military is because the US has been funding and equiping it. When you rate Israel as the second best Army I would take into account the quality of the adversary you've had to face and how you've acquired the capability you currently have. Israel is tough, I would probably describe it more like a pound for pound description. There are alot more larger standing Armies that would overwhelm Israel. Oh BTW that little deprived army called Hezbollah that engaged you recently doesn't think so. Just keeping it real.
