Jim Carrey's daughter gets the boot from 'Idol'

The "American Idol" judges had praise for Jane Carrey when they voted to send her on to Hollywood week, but it looks like Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler have held firm to their statement that the daughter of actor Jim Carrey wasn't going to get special treatment.

Us Weekly reports that the 24-year-old gave a "shaky" performance of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Looking Out My Back Door," and that Jane knew even before she was done singing that she wasn't going to become the next "Idol."

"I freaked out when I was [up] there so I was really, really shaky," Jane said of her flubbed rendition. "I know I can do way better than that, so I'm really disappointed."

Jane also placed a call to her dad, who's gushed to CNN about his daughter's talent, to ease the disappointment.

"I talked to my dad and he was kind of comforting," Jane said. The 50-year-old actor told her, "'I've been said no to a bunch of times,'" Jane said, "and it worked out for him. So hopefully I have a shot."

Many were surprised that the judges had given the go-ahead to Jane when she auditioned in San Diego, but judge Jennifer Lopez told us that she really was impressed with the singer-songwriter's vocals.

"To [reject] her because of who her dad is would not be fair either," Lopez said. "She sang well and we put her through to the next round, period. That’s how it goes. If she wasn’t [good], we would have had to say very sadly, 'No, and say "Hi" to your dad for me.' But that wasn’t the case, she earned her way to the next step."

Unfortunately, she couldn't make it any further. What do you think - was it time for Jane Carrey to go?

no someone knew who her dad was and only she would have revealed it. she didn't have to wait in line like the thousands of other hopefulls. They put her thru out or respect for Jim Carrey and I felt she could have gone through to at least Hollywood week but I think due to who her father was and the controversy of her not having to wait in line got her the boot. She was awfully confident that she would be staying as she unpacked her suit case so that tells me that she felt her name would definately get her through. At the point she was talking about her stay at AI being a long one is when she made a fool of herself. Not to mention the look of sheer shock when she was rejected.

It was all for show nothing more. The idol folks just didn't want to tell Jim that your daughter sucks and that we will not even be giving her a shot. So instead waited until the next audition.

You have to give it to her that she is trying on her own unlike many children of other celebrities that try to make it by cutting their own demo and near forcing it down radio stations throats because of their famous family, i.e. Brooke Hogan.
I even saw where the late Princess Grace's daughter also wanted to be a "rock star" and she was bad! So, good for Jane. She at least is trying to be discovered on her own, whether or not she did drop her dad's name, she still went there on her own!

Wow, she really looks "bloated' – is there another Carrey on the way? And isn't it sad that her father makes her work as a common waitress, with all the money he has.

I think it speaks well of both her and her parents that although she comes from a LOT of money, she still works for a living and is trying to make her own way. In a world where people like the Hiltons and the Kardashians live off of fame and recognition, it is refreshing to know that there are people still being raised right.

If Jane was truly a performer: she would have NEVER NEVER NEVER outed who her dad was.

I mean no offense to her at all, I am glad for her that she auditioned, but she should have never been given an audience with the judges. She simply has an average voice with nothing special about it. The producers just thought
it would be good tv stuff. How did anyone even know WHO she was? How did she get chosen out of a crowd of what, 10000? It sure wasnt her voice.

Enough of the comments of Janes looks Go get yourelves a saucer of millk to squabble over. I knew Jane briefly when she had a waitress job where I worked and it was only when she left that I found out she was Jim Carrey's daughter. Does not sound like she was being taken care of like some of the brats in Hollywood. She will do well on her own. She has talent.

It's staggering how unforgiving, rude and judgemental the viewing public is. I haven't owned a TV for a very long time (since I moved out of my parents house 38 years ago) but since time-wasting shows like this and the comments they engender are ALWAYS on the 'news' I know way more about it than I would ever care to. What in the world made any of you (the panel included) believe you are in any position to judge another's performance? Somehow this world has evolved to a place where peoples mistake's are never forgiven, harshly judged and represent the end of the line while their triumphs are just an invitation to scrabble their way to some imaginary top of the heap. Heap is right!!

I thought she was terrible. She did not have her heart in it, she was not focused, and she totally fubar'd the last note. Also, I felt like she thought she would get in just cause of her celeb-relational status (cause of her stupid Hi comment at the end). I wouldn't say the apple fell "far" from the tree, but she needs to take her career 100% more seriously.

Even Jane said herself that she didn't do well....that shows a lot of maturity, growth in a human being and a true understanding of the business. So before any of you naysayers post on here. Think of that. She knew she messed up her shot. Dont get negative just because you have nothing better to do today.

Sly: everyone that ever gets up there to audition has tons of FRIENDS and FAMILY who simply dont have the heart to them : "hey, you sound like ch it and you cant sing– to go on idol would be public humiliation" but, yet, friends and family cant hurt the wannabe singer. Seriously some of those people KNOW they cant sing, but they want the DREAM.

Go for it Sly... go do an audition. One things for sure: it aint about looks and body shape. Ya either got marketable talent or you dont.
