Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell speak on 'X Factor' changes

After a number of outlets whispered that Paula Abdul is parting ways with the "X Factor" after only one season, the judge/mentor is confirming the news herself.

"Yes, it's true; I won't be returning to 'The X Factor' next season. I’ve learned through my longevity in this industry that business decisions often times override personal considerations," Abdul says in a statement. "Simon [Cowell] and I, along with Fox and Fremantle, have been communicating about this for a while now, and I have absolute understanding of the situation."

Abdul, who previously worked with Cowell on Fox's other reality competition, "American Idol," says that the tough Brit judge "will remain a dear friend of mine and I’ve treasured my experience working this past season with my extended family at Fox and Fremantle. I want nothing more than for 'The X Factor' to exceed ALL of their wildest dreams. This truly has been a blessing and I am most grateful.”

Mike Darnell, the president of alternative entertainment for Fox, chimed in with a statement of his own, calling Abdul a "remarkable talent."

"We love Paula...and we appreciate all of her contributions," he said. "We're lucky that she is a part of the Fox family, and we look forward to working with her again soon."

On Monday, the network confirmed that judge/mentor Nicole Scherzinger and host Steve Jones are also not returning for "X Factor's" second season.

Jones remarked via Twitter Monday that it's "a shame" that he won't be hosting "X Factor" next season, but added that he couldn't complain because he's had a great time doing it. For her part, Scherzinger's said that she plans to focus on her music career.

And Cowell? He'd like to offer his former colleagues a "massive thank you" for their efforts.

He says in a statement, "We had a lot of fun making the show together, and importantly, we found some real talent and stars." And, as Abdul noted, he says that his friendship with her will go unchanged.

"Paula, in particular, is a very close friend and I expect to be working with her on another project in the near future," Cowell says. "I'm sure all three are going to have massive success in what they do next, but now is the time to thank them all for everything they did last year."

Actually reading through the blog should come in handy too together with responses. Lots of people just put along a "thank you" as well as move ahead. Certainly not beneficial. Arguing will be awesome, however i never care whether a person argue unless you let me know the reason why as well as back up your position. The viewpoint (as well as my very own) are usually ineffective with out a number of reasoned arguments as well as (with luck ,) details. Its like you learn my thoughts! You seem to grasp a lot about this, such as you wrote the guide in it or something. I feel that you just could do with a few p.c. to drive the message home a bit, however other than that, that is magnificent blog. A great read. I will definitely be back.

Do you Brits have your own version of Sarah Palin? Someone who is a public laughing stock and complete oaf?"

Ummm, really, you're actually asking this. Take your pick, this is Britain, we have loads of public oafs... A good one for the moment (think about london 2012 olympics) would be Boris Johnson, our London Mayor.

Pop Idol, X factor, Britains got talent, red or black etc, etc, etc..... In my opinion thery are truly awful programs, that show it's not about the talent of the performers, it's all about the money the promoter can get out of them. I never watch them, they are just a real pain. Personally I wouldn't put it past them to fix the resuts anyway. Look at Britains got talent 2nd placed winner year before last Susan Boyle – I don't believe she should even have got into the finals, she was awful. But someone saw some money didn't they.
Alas, you now have all of these lovely programs, American versions, but surely they must be a bad as the British originals???

As a Brit I am so sorry........

Too bad about the adorably relaxed and surprisingly cogent Paula Abdul:( Nicole was a sweetheart but a tad grandiose and contributed little to the X factor experience. Good riddance to the wild eyed tweaker-robot Steve, whom I'm sure was fired (after all, Simon called him a replaceable pengiun live on national TV – lol)!! Thank goodness X factor retained the uber connected and oh-so-cool LA Reid! LA reid would have been impossible to replace as far as that show's credibility is concerned. Peace!

Once Idol debuted with good numbers XF surely realized their show is the issue, not just a change in viewing habits. You knew Jones was gone – starting about the 4th episode, after every song, when he talked to the talent they zoomed to close-ups of the talent and cut him out of the camera view. Makes it easier to show clips from the past year in the future. Smart move by the producer!

Television is mainly for ENTERTAINMENT. Other than the news – which is sensationalized as well – programs are created more so to entertain as opposed to inform. Watch PBS, or C-Span if you want substance. There are 300 channels, use the remote for goodness sakes.

If Paula Abdul is suppose to be this great singer and dancer why doesn't she go on DWTS to see how good really can dance. Or here's another one why doesn't she go on American Idol as a contestant to see if she can win a singing contract. As for now and in the futrue Paula Abdul is a NOBODY. Her only claim to fame is that she was a Laker Cheerleader that's it. How many albums has she released in the last 5 years I haven't herad of any. I know that American Idol doesn't want her back. Maybe her next gig can can judging dog shows.

By your logic, Abe Lincoln is a "NOTHING" as well. He hasn't done anything in the last 5 years either. She may be irrelevant in today's music world, but she had her place in the past. And you?

I actually agree that Paula wouldn't make it through the first round on either Idol or X, she never was that good as a singer and tended to use the auto-tune a lot. It's wrong, though, to say her only claim to fame is being a Laker girl...you may not be old enough to remember, but she was a pretty big pop star in the 80's, and that was after being a very successful choreographer for big-name music videos.

Paula Abdul still hasn't figured out that being a former Laker Girl doesn't prepare one to do anything useful. She can't stick with a show even if it is a hit. She is hot but she is not the hottest thing out there. There are thousands of hotter women in LA and NY working at Starbucks. She needs to shed the diva act and get a real job. What a total loser.

Actually Paula was EXTREMELY talented in her younger years! The comment by 'The Question' shows how little they know about our economy in that Paula generated more retail sales than 99.9% of the population. So Paula made jobs possible for the people that made the record, made the packaging for the record, shipped the record, sold the record, sold groceries, gasoline, houses etc to the people that sold, shipped and sold the record. I really doubt that Snarky will ever contribute to society as much as Paula has.
