Whitney Houston calls claims she's broke 'ridiculous'There's been a rumor bouncing about that Whitney Houston's bank accounts are not as loftily stocked as they supposedly once were. Radar Online has cited an anonymous, exclusive source who calls Houston "flat broke," saying that her "fortune is gone." The loose-lipped insider alleges that "music industry heavy hitters are supporting her," and that while she should have "Mariah Carey money," the 48-year-old singer/actress has had to call to ask to borrow $100.
"She might be homeless if not for people saving her," the source said. But while this individual may find her to be "broke as joke," Houston isn't laughing at the allegations. Her rep tells CNN in a statement that the reports are "totally false and ridiculous. She just made a movie with Jordin Sparks – 'Sparkle.'" In case you didn't know, "People get paid to make movies. [Houston's] not broke."

I think the definition of broke is when u have nothing and everyone u know has nothing....if have yoou friends that can afford to pay their bills and your, broke you will never be. If Whitney is living in a muli million dollar house while broke...what is the average person who works 60hrs a week to maintain a 700 sq ft apartment......
I'm inclined to believe that Whitney is broke. As many drugs she is alleged to have used it's a wonder that she is still capable of remembering who she is. It's a crying shame how drugs ruin thousands of lives each year here in America. Our drug laws are too lenient and should be toughened up to make people at least think what can happen if they get caught using or selling drugs.

If you VOLUNTARILY snort/smoke crack, drink bottles of whiskey or even smoke yourself to death, then I suppose it's a disease – but a disease of CHOICE. Whitney CHOSE to do drugs to the point where no one who isn't watching her sing could even begin to recognize her voice. True, it was her voice to do that to. But the bottom line is that if she had started out with this raspy, awful, can't-hold-a-tune thing dwelling in her throat now, she wouldn't even be in the top 1000 singers. So yes – it is sad, but I don't feel sorry for her.
It really says a lot that a man in Hollywood can be a former addict and everyone forgives him and praises him (Robert Downey Jr, Tim Allen, Steven Tyler, etc) and yet if a woman has a problem, gets help and tries to move on she gets permanently labeled a worthless drug addict. Whitney deserves more respect than what people give her, she's getting better and its wrong for people to constantly try to hurt her and destroy her.

I sure as hell don't...I don't see stuff like this as news...it can't be proven that she is broke, and it can't be proven that she ISN'T broke...none of us are seeing her bank statements or knowing what she's doing with her money...we just hear what other folks are saying...all I know she was saying "Crack is Whack" back in the day when she looked like a scarecrow and everyone knew she was smoking her kneecaps off, so who knows if you can believe her...did I spell "whack" right"? she owns several properties, why aren't they on auction or being foreclosed or have t ax liens
where are the creditors suing her to be paid
those are all positive signs of someone in financial distress i haven't see any of these produced for whitney that's why that tabloid story is worthless.
At no point did I say I believed the story. The ? at the top isnt me. My comment merely spoke about the PR influx. I don't believe the labels that they're broke though. They're still making money hand over fist and their claims that they aren't are just propaganda so they can close file sharing sites and keep their stranglehold on distribution. Paid bloggers probably come pretty cheap anyway so you wouldn't need all that much cash to employ them.
Whitney is a living treasure that will always remain part of the history of entertainment.

People look at what she is making for her work and failing to remember that your worth is equal to the value of your assets minus your liabilities. In other words, if she owes more than she makes, she is broke. Such a waste. She could have had it all.
People are dumb! There is a question whether Whitney has EIGHT or NINE digit networth, and folks are debating whether she is broke? She is not. I am a real estate agent in NJ and Whitney still owns multiple properties in NJ, including a huge gazillion squarefoot mansion with its own Forrest, and that's just real estate, the 'public' part of her fortune.
For me that's publicity, you know she has a movie coming, this strategy might win for her the sympathy of the movie going public. Dont be dumb people she is not broke.
The suggestion that Whitney Houston is broke is ludicrous at best. She's just completed a movie in which she starred and produced. She is a Guiness World Record holder as the most awarded female vocalist of all time. She is still selling albums and earning royalties from singles.
I just don't understand the hating... yeah, she was great in her hey day and hit some roadblocks to get to today... but who among us hasn't been in this position before? It's okay to feel disappointment... not okay to trash and condemn. Let's celebrate her achievements and look forward to more to come.

I will take this story with a grain of salt. I think Whitney may have a cash flow problem and I know her money has been ripped off. Many times people around you (MGRS,Executives, business partners) stand to gain if you are not coherent! It is possible she has been royally ripped off but not certain she is down to bare hundreds in the bank.

I saw her in concert about 13 yrs ago in Anaheim. She looked washed up then, sang horrible, drank water in the middle of songs. She looks so much worse now. I really was a fan once. No more, drugs do bad things to ppl. Even superstars.

hey Sklyar, apparently this is news to you, but the way people look in MOVIES is not how they look in real life. That picture is a press release photo from a movie. They have tons of hair and makeup and lighting to look that good.

I didn't say she drank water "in between songs" she stopped the song she was already singing to drink some water then continue on with the song. She did this all through the concert. Also, her daughter was just about 2 or 3 yrs old and she was running around the stage with Bobby chasing after her while Whitney was singing. I paid quite a bit of money to see my all time favorite singer and this concert was disgusting. I sat close enough to the stage to see her eye makeup smeared all over her face. I don't know if Bobby destroyed Whitney or she did this to herself.

So what if she made X amount of money!? Doesn't mean she is spending it within her means. If her only defense is "I was in a movie so obviously I'm not broke".... I'd say that's not much of a defense at all.
OK... so that's her gross income almost 2 years ago. Let's get to taxes and other deductions, including costs of attorneys, PR, manager, security, advances and any other loans... if she's borrowing money throughout the year from her record company, management, etc., they'll also get that money back before she sees a penny.
