Jim Carrey's daughter Jane auditions for 'Idol'Talent runs in the family, and Jim Carrey isn't afraid to talk up his daughter Jane's vocal chops. “My daughter is an incredible musician," he told CNN earlier this year of 24-year-old Jane. "Incredible singer-songwriter...She's amazing. And deep. Really thoughtful lyrics...So yeah, we come by it honestly." On Sunday's "American Idol," Jane showed and proved what her dad has been raving about.
According to Us Weekly, the young mom was featured in "Idol's" San Diego auditions, and spoke a bit about trying out for a reality competition as a "Carrey." "The last name definitely helps and hurts," Jane said. "There's this pressure to be better because if I make it somewhere, I run the risk of people saying 'you only got there because of [your name].' I'm here to make my place in the world." But it seems Jane impressed "Idol" judges Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler with her take on Bonnie Raitt's "Something to Talk About." Us Weekly reports that the judges wanted her to work on finding a better way to connect with the audience, but overall thought her performance held enough potential for her to move on to Hollywood week. As for the elder Carrey, you likely won't see him trying to sing anytime soon. "You know, I always thought, 'I can carry a tune,'" he's told CNN, "but I don't think of myself as a singer, you know." I cant believe they brought her through! She doesn't sing that well to make it. It's all in who you are. If the judges were honest and apparently they aren't, they would have thanked her for auditioning and told her that it wasn't meant for her at this time.
This is more than a simple "celebrity child auditioning". Let us not forgot Jim Carrey owes his entire career to FOX. Although he likes to conveniently forget he was ever on In Living Color, no one would have even known who he was if it wasn't for that show. He was Fire Marshall Bill well before Man on The Moon and Liar Liar, but somehow because IN Living Color was an urban show...he does not like to acknowledge the facts. And now, 20 years later, he has gone back to FOX with his daughter to get "her" the same break...Why doesn't he just visit his former co-star Jamie Foxx....Im sure he would produce an album for her, bur oh I forgot, Carrey forgot where he came from....American Idol has always been a joke to anyone who takes the music industry seriously, this is just another reason why the show is a ridiculous farce that has more to do with image than music.

The show's reputation has taken a hit on this one. The show's producers have said that they don't give special treatment to anyone and they gave it to Jane. People wait in line outside for days to meet the judges and Jane didn't have to. She has a good set of pipes. Why didn't her dad call his agent for a favor and get Jane signed? I wonder what other crooked things (example: phone/text vote fixing rumors) go on behind the scenes of American Idol?
If she wasn't Carey's daughter, no one would give her the time of day.

So I finally saw this last night and have to say she has half the talent that most who got the golden ticket did. The judges looked like they just didn't have the heart to tell her she wasn't going to make the cut...and also saw the promotional opportunities for ratings and figured "why not" let her through and get some ratings while they last. Had she not mentioned she was Carrey's kid, I doubt she'd have gotten through....and she beared no resemblance to him anyway.

I find it amusing that some of you people badmouth her for having a rich father and is priviledged but then complain when she tries to make something of her life..... Idol is not limited to any race, religion, color social, or financial status. what a pack of whimpering bitter complainers we are becoming!

Sorry, I don't have anything against Jim Carrey or his daughter, but someone who's Dad is as famous and as well off as he is, doesn't need "Idol". If she's got talent, Dad can get her in front of the right people.
And from what I understand, she didn't even have to wait in line for hours or days like everyone else does. She was actually able to make an APPOINTMENT, and show up for her "audition". She said she didn't like living in her Dad's shadow and wanted to make it on her own.

All this episode did was make me miss the days when J-Lo was just a backup dancer who's opinion didn't matter.
I actually used to work with Jane at the same restaurant. The whole time, I never knew she was a celebrity's daughter. When I found out on my last day I asked why she was working in a restaurant. She told me her dad would help her if she wanted. She would rather live a normal life. Her baby-daddy is very hot.....like her.

I've often wondered the same thing. I'm not sure if it's similar to people who type azz (since I do believe that's what people type to avoid easy flagging by CNN). I think in this case people just type it the way they hear it rather than the way it's actually spelled.

Maybe she shouldn't of mentioned she is the daughter of Jim Carrey till AFTER Her audition. That way the judges would of a been a little more honest instead of kissing her ass...she was good but not great. I wonder how the outcome would of been if she didn't say anything...sort of like she used that beforehand to make it known who she was so the judges have some leniency...plus, isn't there any rules on this? She didn't volunteer the information, she was asked directly by Randy if her father knew she was there, then Jennifer asked who her father was, because she didn't recognize her. And they didn't kiss her ass, they were honest. She had a good voice but needed to connect more with the audience. They gave more enthusiastic reviews to others who were complete nobodies. She was more talented than some that were put through, and less talented than others. They gave her a chance, not a free ride.
I think she has talent. But, like all of the comments before mine, that is just an opinion. Everyone here has the right to think what they want.

Unless your musician than I would suggest that you keep it to yourselves because you have no clue what pitchy means. Secondly, just because she's the daughter of a celebrity doesn't mean she'll get far. Maybe you should check out some past contestants who had been on Broadway, already had a CD out but wasn't selling them, professional backup singers. Nuff said.

I have seen and heard her play in NYC, as an opening acoustic act for Mat Kearney, and I can honestly say she truly does have a LOT of talent. She also did not mention at any time during her act that Jim Carrey was her father, we only found out while reading the credits on her CD that we bought that night, so it didn't sound to me like she's trying to use her father's celebrity status to get anywhere in life. Her American Idol audition did not do her justice, as she is so much better than the 15 seconds everyone saw on tv. As for the comments about her baby, she was married, they had a child, but things weren't working out for them so they divorced. She is a hard worker, with an amazing sounding voice that will hopefully be seen by many once she actually gets to sing longer than what we saw on the auditions. I'm just glad I bought one of her CD's before she becomes super famous!!

sasha, she DIDN"T try to do it without daddy. She got an appointment to sing in front of the judges instead of standing in line like everyone else, she announced that she was Jim Carrey's daughter, and they did a nice little thing on her with pictures of her daddy. She seemed like a nice enough girl with a so-so voice. No way should have she been put through based on her audition, but who knows? Maybe she was just a little nervous and will improve the next time we see her.

While I agree that she was pitchy, and did not sound good at all. I don't believe the judges were "paid off" to put her through. I DO think that hey only put her through because of her name. There were a few other people that did NOT get through, that sounded a lot better than her. I love Jim Carrey, and Jane is adorable, but she was totally off key. I think she needs more practice.

I totally agree with Koko, Jane has the means to further her career if she really wanted to. I thought Idol was supposed to help people further their singing ambitions, who otherwise would not have the exposure or finanical means. I haven't watched Idol in a few years, so maybe that has changed .. Well, I won't be watching this year.

I agree Koko. If Will and Jada Smith can get their daughter a record deal, why can't Jim Carey? I think she's a waste of space on Idol. But she's not the first person related to a celeb to get on Idol and she won't be the last.
It's okay for Jane to take her own shot at stardom. Afterall, she works as a waitress, so dad is clearly not handing her the advantages one might expect. That raises the question: why does a young woman whose dad makes more than $10 million per film have to go to Idol in order to pursue her dream? Can't dad call up a few record esecs and get a private audition for Jane?

She didn't stand in line for days and go through the same process as the other performers. She had an appointment and walked right in, so the name is good for something. Would they have sent her to Hollywood (back to Hollywood) if she didn't have any talent at all? I don't know. Will she make it to the final 12? I don't think so.
