Sundance Film Festival kicks off

Day one of Sundance is normally “set up” day.

And this year is true to form, as all of the various venues in Park City, Utah, are finalizing their looks for the next week of movies, concerts and dinners.

The famed Egyptian Theater, which hosts many of the film premiers during the festival, was home to the opening press conference on Thursday, where Robert Redford, the founder of the Sundance Film Festival, addressed this year’s crop of documentaries and films.

At the CNN Sundance Headquarters, the crew spent Thursday setting up the CNN workspace and area where we’ll bring you interviews and latest news from this year’s festival.  We'll talk to some of Hollywood’s elite, as well as directors and producers from the most buzzed about documentaries.

Fan want to know who is coming to Park City this year.  Some stars expected in the CNN Headquarters include Sean Penn, Kate Bosworth, Peter Jackson and more.

We are also looking forward to seeing some shows by Red Foo of LMFAO, Drake, Jason Mraz and The Civil Wars. CNN will be bringing you all the behind the scenes action from both the CNN HQ as well as the various parties around town this weekend.

Happy Sundancing!

Want to score at Sundance or Cannes? Controversy. No substance, no plot, no enjoyment.. Just controversy.

Sundance may be the only two weeks Utah actually seems normal. I lived there for too, too long (18 years) and FINALLY managed to escape. Utahns want to take credit for the mountains (which, of course, they can't) and don't want to take credit for how miserable life there is.

actually utah is quite boring. there is no alcohol to speak of. everyone is in bed by 9pm. please stay away. nothing happens here. do not come here. i mean don't go there. go someplace else. i hear kansas is nice this time of year.

Hey Aez, theonioneaters was not talking down Utah, he was being humorous by telling people to stay away because he doesn't want to share. Read it again and have a sense of humor.

I've been to Utah many times. It is a beautiful state. I was actually at Sundance, too. It is nothing but a big party. It was a really fun time.

Not all Utahns are LDS and non-drinkers. There is a very large military population here that brings people from all across the country. We know how to have a good time and we are looking forward to heading to Sundance, just to say we got there while we are stationed here. It is a neat place to visit. Give it a chance. Utah will surprise you!
