Thus far, with an hour still to go, the 69th annual Golden Globes has been relatively tame compared to last year's humorously uncomfortable show.
Aside from Seth Rogen's erection joke and Madonna's jab at Ricky Gervais - "If I’m still just like a virgin, Ricky, then why don’t you come over here and do something about it. I haven’t kissed a girl in a few years…on TV" - it's been business as usual.
And then we got to the nominees for best supporting actress in a motion picture. When Octavia Spencer was named as the winner, the hoots and hollers resounded through the until now pretty quiet audience. So many stood up to congratulate the actress that she could barely make it onto the stage.
"This is seriously nuts," a nervous Spencer says. "With regard to domestics in this country now and then, I think Dr. King said it best: All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance."
By the time she was done, Melissa McCarthy was wiping away tears.
How do you think the Globes are going so far? Any wins that surprised you?
