'Pretty Little Liars': The black hoodie strikes again

After countless empty leads - from beaded bracelets to medical records - “Pretty Little Liars” finally gave viewers a substantial clue about the possible mastermind(s) behind A on Monday night.

In possession of what could be A’s cell phone, the girls consider reaching out to Caleb for help. Hanna wasn’t too keen on involving her boy toy, suggesting they call technical support instead.

But after some convincing from Emily – “These are not highlights, Hanna. This is glass in my hair” – she conceded.

And just then, the phone rings! But don’t get excited. This isn’t the part where we find out who’s orchestrating the entire hoax. In the most anticlimactic scene of the episode, the girls simply let the blocked caller go to voicemail. It was probably just a telemarketer anyway.

Luckily, Caleb is able to download one of the many files stored on the cell before the phone is wiped clean from a remote computer. The file is a photo of the “mission” dolls sent to the girls earlier this season.

The most crucial clue comes when Emily, sentenced to answer phones at a crisis hotline, reads a transcript from the night she was attacked. “I was asked to do something important, but I screwed it up,” the caller said. “They’re never going to forgive me.”

When the caller reaches out again, Emily listens in, determining that the rattled voice belongs to Lucas.

So, could the “they” he referred to be Garrett and Jenna, who have supposedly been fighting since the night Em met with “A”?

“Asking him to help us was a bad idea,” Garrett told Jenna on the phone.

And would that make “him” Lucas?

The detective in me wants to say yes, but this is “Pretty Little Liars” we’re dealing with.

Meanwhile, Hanna has been preparing for Caleb’s surprise birthday party at Spencer’s lake house. While looking for tiki torches in the attic, Spencer stumbles across a familiar scene. It's where the dolls were photographed. Hanna, however, is too concerned with banners and fireworks to care.

But, in the nick of time, Emily arrives at Spencer’s lake house to warn the girls of Lucas’ plan to possibly kill Hanna. Or not.

Hanna hops in a rowboat with Lucas to set the fireworks up across the extremely foggy lake. Before he can harm her, Hanna knocks him out of the boat with the ore. Long story short, her ore gets stuck as she’s rowing back to shore, the boat capsizes, she falls out and swims back.

Coincidentally, Noel and Mona show up sopping wet, claiming to have gone for a dip.

The episode ends as the person in the black hoodie pulls Lucas’ sneaker from the water.

Is Lucas dead? What part are Noel and Mona playing in A’s game? Just how many people are behind A? Can Jenna see again? And, more importantly, did Caleb enjoy his surprise party?

And now, the completely irrelevant plot points I feel compelled to mention:

  • If Byron wasn’t so fixated on Aria’s footwear, he’d have noticed the eight-legged monster dangling from her neck. Forget the knee-high boots, dad. That spider was huge!
  • Aria’s extremely perceptive father also assumes his daughter has been to Fitz’s apartment when he notices two pillows on the English teacher’s unmade bed. Dear Byron: Please consider the fact that Fitz requires the support and comfort of multiple pillows for a good night’s rest. Or perhaps he has sinus problems.
  • But, who needs a bed when you have Spencer’s Nana’s couch? Talking to you, Hanna and Caleb.

One more thing I think Bryon is the biggest hypocrite on the face of the planet! He has the nerve to preach to Fitz about removing a tiny speck out of his eye, while Byron has a ginormous plank in his own eye. HYPOCRITE!!!

If you don't watch this show don't even read the article and bother to comment! It shows you have no life and absolutely nothing else better to do. Anyway back to the show. I think Jena can see and has been able to see from the beginning. Herme (Lucas) is in love with Hannah and that's all there is to his manic, strange obsessive behavior. You know “if I can’t have her nobody can.”? Noel and Mona are harmless teens doing what teens do. We'll never know who "A" really is because he/she is comprised of many people. No I didn't read the books. Part of the fun of watching this show is guessing who, what, when, where and how.

I'm so glad everyone talks about the topic here.... Such immaturity. Anyway, Pretty Little Liars was amazing not to mention shocking this week. I can't believe Lucas was a helping hand with A. Well, I guess I sort of could because he did seem strange in much earlier episodes. I think Mona and Noel definitely were up to no good also when Lucas took Hanna out on the boat. I can not wait for next weeks episode!
