While you were working...Today's news you might've missed:
Bale's 'Flowers of War' a hit at Chinese box officeChristian Bale's star turn in China's "Flowers of War" has been a success: The historical drama earned $83 million in 17 days, according to the Hollywood Reporter. That box office gross makes the film the sixth largest release ever in the country, and the top grossing Chinese movie of 2011. Directed by Zhang Yimou, "Flowers of War" is well on its way to recouping its $100 million budget, the largest of any Chinese film to date. It still has a while to go before it could come close to surpassing the $204 million "Avatar" made at the Chinese box office, which makes it the No. 1 release of all time in the country. "Flowers of War" bowed in China on December 16, and had a one week run in the States at the end of December. Betting on another great 'Modern Family'It's been a month, so welcome back indeed to "Modern Family." The new year started with the return of Benjamin Bratt as Manny's father, Javier. When he went on an outing to the racetrack with Jay and his son, it wasn't long before the two dads butted heads. Manny, on the other hand (who was ganging up a bit on Jay with his father), was having the time of his life. At one point, he said, "I love gambling, it's so easy!" Reese Witherspoon: How I met my husbandReese Witherspoon has been proclaiming her love for husband Jim Toth from just about every place she can find, and in February's Elle magazine, the 35-year-old actress reveals a bit more about how she found herself falling for the talent agent. "It happened out of the blue. This really drunk guy was hitting on me, making such an idiot of himself, yelling at me," the mom of two tells the magazine. "Jim came over and said, 'Please excuse my friend. He's just broken up with someone.' Jim was a really good friend, pulling him out of that situation. That's just kind of who he is, a really good person." Witherspoon and Toth tied the knot in March of 2011 after dating for just over a year, but the actress says that after her 2006 divorce from her first husband, Ryan Phillippe, she wasn't sure she'd remarry. New 'Celebrity Apprentice' stars speak their mindsNot unlike the host of the show, Donald Trump, the fifth season cast of "Celebrity Apprentice" will speak on just about any topic under the sun. First and foremost, of course, they spoke to reporters on Wednesday about what to expect this season (though they weren't allowed to say too much, as usual). “This season we had the biggest cast we’ve ever had," said Aubrey O'Day, a veteran of MTV's "Making the Band" and Oxygen's "All About Aubrey." Demi Moore on her ultimate fearWhen Demi Moore and her estranged husband Ashton Kutcher seemed to be having marital problems earlier this year, rare was the moment that someone wasn't pointing out how slender 49-year-old Moore looked. The actress acknowledges how thin she became in a Harper's Bazaar Q&A with her collaborator on her upcoming talk show, "The Conversation," Amanda De Cadenet. "I think I sit today in a place of greater acceptance of my body, and that includes not just my weight but all of the things that come with your changing body as you age, to now experiencing my body as extremely thin," she says in the magazine's February issue. "Thin in a way that I never imagined somebody would be saying to me, 'You're too thin, you don't look good.'" |
