Van Halen to tour with David Lee Roth in 2012

Van Halen is going back out on the road with a familiar face.

The band has announced that they're touring in 2012, with frontman David Lee Roth, guitarist Eddie Van Halen, drummer Alex Van Halen and bassist Wolfgang Van Halen along for the ride.

According to Entertainment Weekly, they were all last on the road in 2007, which was the first time Van Halen was back together with Roth since a brief reunion in 1996.

Tickets will go on sale starting January 10, although specific dates have yet to be released.

On top of the tour, the band is also getting ready to rock on a new album, Van Halen's first with Roth in about 28 years. The group's last collaboration, "1984," which was released on the last day of 1983, included hits like "Jump," "Panama" and "Hot for Teacher."

It's absolutely hilarious to be reading some of these comments I'm a Welshman and used to go to university with a few Americans. It never ceased to amaze me how stupid you are and how trivial the matters you self agrandise over are.FFS we have a rock and roll band being bought into politics, religion, in fact just about anything but their music. For pity's sake behave will you and do a bit of growing up while you're at it

Yes we love our music and many other things about our culture. Maybe if the fine people of Wales had some passions in their lives besides Soccer and Drinking, you would have more to do than throw insults out there. By the way, did they not teach grammar or how to form a complete sentence at your university?

Sammy and Mike could'nt work in that enviroment,so it was over.Did you know Wolfgang Van Halen makes more money than David Lee Roth?Roth has a separate managment team. It's funny that Roth would play without Mike ,but Sammy would'nt.Thanks for letting me rant for a while .I do have other interests.HaHAHA.Support Chickenfoot!!!!!! CHICKENFOOT is better anyways. Prediction: the new Van Halen album sucks ass.....BAD.

Van Halen was on hiatus from 1999 to 2004.Mike wanted to play music ,so he rekindled a friendship with Sammy.Mike was behind getting Sammy back in the band in 2004.Then Ed wanted Sammy back ,but not Mike.Sammy would'nt do it without Mike,so in order for Mike to do the tour,he had to sign away royalty rights .His future involvment was also contingent on the Van Halen brothers.HE WAS FIRED.The 2004 shows were a disaster 'cause Ed was wasted.(I was there,I saw it ,I want my money back.)

The Van Halen family band featuring David Lee Roth. Roth was'nt @ ed's wedding was he? Real good friends right? Edward Van Halen is a spoiled low life ,enabled by his brother and his yes men.Roth is with them because he could'nt sell out a free concert @ a grocery store parking lot.Roth is a contract player. There are only 3 members of the "band".The family and that's it.Ed's always complaining that non-family band members don't act like 'bothers'.moron. Sammy got the shaft in 1996.Mike stayed with em 'cause he was lied to.After the Cherone album(after Cherone quit)A majority rules decision was made to give Ed and Al sole control of the band (3 to 1). Mike was made a contract player.

Them dudes are my cousins and they gave me about 4 PhDs in music theory, composition, law, business and raised me. My husband is their best friend and cares for them. Poor Eddie has had it real bad with all of that cancer he had. Micheal Anthony wanted out of the band because his old lady did not want him to extensively tour and Wolfgang's mama did not want him to tour at all..Alex and Eddie made him do it and he had tutors and did homework on the road. They run him ragged and that is what it takes to be a good musician !

It is not a reunion without Michael Anthony!! I have been a VH fan all my life but Wolfgang will never take Mike's place. What did mike do to get kicked out of the band? When you listen to all the VH records and listen to the harmony on the background vocals; all of that is Mike. What was done to Mike by Eddie was mean and insensitive. If I want to see a kid play bass I'll go to a teen club. To me there never has been a reunion because Michael wasn't on the first tour with Roth in 2007. Screw nepotism. I'll pass!

All these comments saying VH sux without Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony is a bunch of BEEE-ESSSS!!! Sammy was never that great as the lead singer in VH anyway. Don't get me wrong, I like him and his voice but he's become a freak. He's so odd with his talk of being abducted by aliens and all the other bizarre stuff he says, FREAK!! He's been dipping into the Cabo Wabo too much and it fried his brain!!! Michael is an awesome bassist but Wolfie needs his chance to prove what an awesome bassist he is too. Wolfegang needs his time to shine, he does, and is a great bassist! Besides, Sammy & Michael are doing just fine with their new band, Chickenfoot and Van Halen no longer needs them. David, Eddie, Alex, and Wolfie, that's how it should be. The band started with David, Eddie, and Alex anyhow, NOT Sammy. Sammy doesn't belong, David belongs as the frontman. David and Eddie are the epitome of Van Halen!! Hope they come to my city or close to it, cuz me & my ffriends are there!!! VAN HALEN FOREVER!!!!

"If I wanted to see a fat kid play bass like a statue, I'd get tickets."

Aren't you being harsh? Wolfgang hasn't been on stage or doing concerts that long, just a few years. The young man is learning, his Dad and other bandmates will teach him to move around and do more over time. Give the young man a break, this is new to him. So what if he has some weight on him, big deal?? Most kids go through a chubby phase, he'll grow out of it, don't be an idiot to a teenager, how cruel can you be?? Wolfgang made his first appearance on stage when he was 13 yrs old, then again at 16 yrs old, that's when he actually toured with VH. There's NO teenager who can say they've done that or made that accomplishment. Sounds to me like you're jealous of Wolfgang because of him being so young and his accomplishments. When people put others down, or make fun of them and their appearance, usually means they're jealous of them in some way. I'm so sorry you're jealous of him and his life. So sorry you're so petty and have to make fun of someone's appearance. How small of you. 😐

Excellent. I hope the new album doesn't have songs about "getting older", 'when we was fab in 1984", or similar. They should do a straight ahead album as though they never broke uo. After all, their demographic isn't exactly 17 year olds anymore.

    Dear Eddie,

Well, you must be running low on funds. A new album? It's been what, 13 years since your last so-called piece of work Eddie? (Van Halen III) I respected you until Hagar was fired from VH and I heard all the crap you talked about him afterward in the media. Note: Eddie, you're NOT a bad-a**, and you're not going to kick anyone else's a**. What are you Eddie, a buck-forty dripping wet? Wow, that's scary man, really intimidating! Once a great axe-man – YES! An intimidating bad a** brawler, HELL NO! Get it?

YOU BLEW IT! Hagar was the best thing that ever happened to your band. Too bad you fried your brain and pi**ed away your once phenomenal talent. Anyone that needs to see just how bad your band is now should swing by Youtube for a moment. Just look at a couple of videos from your last tour. One word...pathetic. SAVE YOUR MONEY PEOPLE! My once favorite band is now a joke.

Hagar may be older than you Eddie, but he has been running circles around you since 1996. How many albums has he put out since then? You? Does he need the money? No, he simply loves what he does. He's still kicking a** without all of the VH drama. What happened to you Eddie? Too busy selling amps, guitars, and stomp boxes? Thirteen years! Do you really even like making music anymore? Is that creative tank running on empty?

I never could stand Roth as Van Halen's front man. What ever limited talent the guy had has been gone for almost 20 years. The man has no range, no class, and not one humble bone in his body. One word: LOSER! He doesn't carry Hagar's jock on his BEST day!

While I admire and respect artists (any age) who can still perform at a high level, I have no interest in seeing a has-been guitarist, an talentless ego maniac on vocals, an over-rated drummer who's been riding your coat-tails all his life, and a porker kid on bass that has no business being in the band. IT'S FREAKIN' STUPID EDDIE....THREE OLD-TIMERS, AND A TEENAGER. Do you know how ridiculous you look?

So, you have a NEW band Eddie? Fine with me, just don't call it Van Halen. Call it something else.....how about "Clash of Egos"? "Three Geezers and a Kid"? Something honest at least.

The world's greatest band is gone.

I totally agree Robert. I think that Michael Anthony is one of the best bass players on the planet, and that's not even including his harmony vocals. Even though his name is not "Van Hallen"...I consider him just as much part of Van Halen as Eddie and Alex. "Wolfie" might be able to hold his own (as one writer mentioned)...but he is a far cry from Michael. I'll probably still see the tour, as the last Van Halen show I saw was the Diver Down tour. I'm only going because of Diamond Dave, and I do like Eddie and Alex. If no one here has seen Chickenfoot yet...check them out! They are damn good! They are has-been gay liberal hippy white draft dodgers that need their original bass player back to sing harmonies because the one they have now holds his own while on tour. And they are sober gay clowns.

Hey I am a huge fan and am so glad Roth is back but it's not the lineup that made them stars. They need to get Michael Anthony back in the mix and put on a real VH tour. I saw VH with Roth twice after he rejoined and Wolfgang held his own as far as a player but he didn't write those bass lines and he sure as heck can't sing those harmonies. The world has waited a long time for a true VH reunion. Come on guys give us just one tour of the original lineup.

Who cares? They sucked then....they'll suck now. Eddie Van Halen is the most over-rated guitarist on the planet – all noise and "technique" – no emotion or feeling. Boooooring.

Over-rated? You're an 1d1ot dude. I'm not a van halen mark, but I will not deny the influence that bad had on many to follow. The original VH was a powerhouse. Eddie's guitar was all about soul. He put his into every song. You're insane if you can't grant him that. A true original / pioneer in the industry. Van Hagar was okay from a technical perspective. A tight sound, well produced, that's about it. Hagar belonged in Montrose. That's where he shined. He was good on his own too. Should never have joned VH. They went mainstream crap rock with him. DLR is the man.

Its about timing that is all. Michael Anthony is in another band in which he is under contract for 2 more albums and another tour. That band is Chickenfoot. He doesnt have the time to do an album and a tour. However, the timing for Chad Smith, drummer of Chickenfoot is different. Chad Smith is also the drummer for Red Hot Chili Peppers. Chickenfoot just finished their tour when RHCP went into sessions for their latest album. When they finish their tour next summer, that is when Chickenfoot goes back into the studio. It is all about timing when you are in multiple bands.

Wolfgang came of age. Sammy was supposed to be the original front man BEFORE Roth. I remember when he joined and people were all saying "finally – Van Halen has a voice" (Including EVH). I like both versions of the group and if their new album (oops just dated me by saying that) is any good – they should have a great tour. I don't care if they are liberals, I don't care if they are gay, I don't care about what they do off stage – THE MUSIC is what I go to a concert for, not a political agenda. What do all of you go to concerts for?

Wolfgang u r an idiot. Van Halen formed with Eddie, Alex, Mike, and David long before any of them had ever heard of Sammy Hagar. Hagar did a great job as a stand in, but that is all he ever was. Saw his first tour with them, was incredible! All the old music sounded almost as good as with Roth. The new music? Not so much. There was never supposed to be any other singer than David.

      Howie-
Van Hagar Fan is correct. Eddie and Alex were big fans of Montrose (Sammys first band) and did try and kick Dave out and recruit Sammy before the 1st album. They even shared the stage with Sammy in the early 80s.

If you go to http://www.vh.com you can listen to Michael himself say that Eddie did not want him on the 2004 reuinion tour with Sammy Hagar and made him sign some papers limiting his rights to VAN HALEN songs. It had nothing to do with his so called "alliance" with Sammy Hagar. The 2004 tour ended shorter than anticipated because Ed was using and there was infighting between bandmembers. The 2004 tour came about when Roth and Hagar went on tour together and they couldn't get along and that ended abruptly also. Then Sammy called Alex about a reuinion tour over dinner and that's how 2004 came about. Ed wanted Mike out in 2004.

People who know music know that EVH is one of the best guitarist in the world. The best in my book, but that's up for debate. You can call the old has been's if you want but in 2008 they sold out just about every arena while on tour. With a new album coming out in Feb and a tour behind it I am sure it will produce record breaking concert sales. DLR is in pretty good shape and still has the same energy he did back in 1984. Music never dies and =VH= still rocks!

Roth is one of the great front men in rock, not the greatest, but certainly among the best. His voice is a big part of what made the band a success in the first place. And Eddie is Eddie, a legendary guitarist for a good reason, he is that good.
