David Archuleta to embark on Mormon missionFresh-faced “American Idol” star David Archuleta is putting his promising career aside for a higher calling. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Archuleta – or Archie, as he’s known to fans – has announced that he’s embarking on a Mormon mission. The 20-year-old Utah native shared his news at the Salt Lake City stop of his My Kind of Christmas Tour. “I would like to make a special announcement: That I’ve chosen to serve a full-time mission,” he told the audience.
“It’s not because someone told me I was supposed to do it and not because I no longer want to do music anymore,” the “Idol” season 7 runner-up explained to the crowd. “It’s because it’s what I feel I need to do next in my life.” This means Archie will be sent abroad (or possibly somewhere in the United States) to proselytize his faith. He’ll have limited contact with family and friends, a strict schedule and will wear the traditional dress clothes of a missionary. Mormon.org describes the missionary’s experience: “During their two years of full time service they devote themselves to studying, meeting people and teaching about Jesus Christ and His restored Church.” But Archuleta won’t be trading in his tour bus for a bicycle just yet – on Wednesday, the singer will perform the last show on his Christmas tour in Beaver Creek, Colorado. |

Generally I do not read article on blogs, however I would like to say that this write-up very forced me to try and do so! Your writing style has been amazed me. Thanks, very great article.
Hello There. I discovered your blog the use of msn. That is a really neatly written article. I'll be sure to bookmark it and return to read extra of your helpful information. Thanks for the post. I'll definitely return.
I thought he was gay? I didn't know that gay mormons could serve missions. WOW! They don't approve of gay marriage, they conducted experiments to try and "cure" them back in UT years ago. I guess they let him go because he's famous? Very strange...
I'm grateful to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I served a 2 year mission in Brasil, and got back last July, and it was honestly the coolest thing I ever did. I can speak fluent Portuguese, have hundreds of Brasilian friends, know the places where I served like the back of my hand, and get messages regularly from the families and individuals that I helped come to know Jesus Christ better. I came to know Jesus Christ better. It brought incredible meaning to my life. We spend much of our days working and earning money, and that's fine. But when you spend all of your time serving people, it's something else. David will be happier for having served as a missionary. He knows because I served with one of his best friends. We were in Brasil together 2 years ago. David knows what he's doing and he knows he'll never regret it.
"What happened to Love one another" REALLY REALLY. You dont even practice what you preach. Get off your high horse. A BIG OL FAIL FOR YOUR COMMENT.
I came on this website to read the good news of David, and I happen to see tons of rude comments on the LDS religon as I scroll down. What kind of people have we become? That goes for other various religons too. No one has the right to make fun of any religion. What happened to Love one another? Mormons may have strange beliefs but that doesn't mean you have to comment such nasty things. As that saying goes," If you want to say something mean, don't say it at all."]

Yeah it had NOTHING to do with getting dropped by his record label. What I have always wanted to know is why so many Mormon men are effeminate. I worked for Marriott for years and we always got these guys from SLC who were going to law or med school here and they all set off gaydar and 90% of them were straight. Then I worked in SLC for m few months a few years ago and honestly the ex-LDS in the gay bars were butcher than the straight boys.
Awesome that Dave is going, he will be more loved, and have a better understanding of the love Jesus has for all of us, no matter our station or condition in life.
Hatred is a reflection of a personal flaw in ones character. Apparently someone has trouble getting over their personal anger issues. Personally I am not a big fan of Archuleta (not my style of music), but I appreciate the fact he gave up two years of his life to serve something he thinks is bigger than himself. You don't see that much in an ego driven music business where it is all about personal ego and personal wants. It will be a tough couple of years for him, but then it normally is for most Mormons who go on missions. You work hard and you learn that hard work doesn't always lead to great success, but ou work hard because there exists a larger vision you agree with.
And he has to put aside his dynamic career too. Such a sacrifice.
Man, every time I read a post on Mormonism, all these whiny, bigoted people come out and start slamming Mormons.
I challenge anyone to tell ME how MY Mormon faith (as practiced by ME) has hurt myself or anyone I know – Guess what? You can't because you don't know ME or what I believe. But I guess that's what bigots are all about – paint everyone with a broad brush.
The intolerance in the world (and even where it exists in the Mormon Church Culture) really bums me out!
Merry Christmas everyone!!!
Really this is ridiculous, a young man has decided to go on a religious mission. Whatever his religion why is it necessary to prattle on for hours about him deciding to do it or why. No one knows what is really the basis of another persons decisions.
Go read a book.
Might I suggest The Book of Mor(m)on?
Behold. I sayeth unto you. The Laminites shalt spread false truths which they call facts.
I found a secret papyrus with a divine message in my backyard that says Joseph Smith was a liar and a false prophet. I am the true prophet, Judy, you must all follow me and throw down your false beliefs. An angel took the papyrus away from me to test your faith. Now come, I have much to teach you.
@mad raper the f@g boy. stfu u mf'en troll. ur a hater 2 -2 face mf
I love that an article about a vocalist choosing to spend time doing what he feels is right gets turned into a religious debate. Whether or not you like his beliefs there are worse things: Can we get a Lindsey Lohan or Charlie Sheen up in here?? At least he has character. He's not slumming around wasting his money on frivolous junk.
i have seen better behaving decent Mormons than some of you. Although I am not a Mormon (Baptist), I came to a conclusion that Christians, Mormons, Catholics all believe the same truth ; Believe in Jesus Christ who was born in human form, died on the cross to redeem our sins, and rose again to save us from eternal hell. David Archuleta is the first one who taught me how to not judge others and love them regardless of differences. He shows what a faithful person should be by an example. His pure soul, love for God, care for fellow human always touch me and so many others. Hard to find this gem these days.

David Archuleta taught you this? Man, you're deep.
Yes, everybody has the right to think whatever he/she feels is appropiate, but that doesn't make right. It's a waste of talent. He can do much better to humanity without the religion crap.
Isn't it funny that you call it "religion crap", when this country was founded by people who believed in "religion crap"!

Let David make his own decisions. I am sure he will have a good experience. That being said I would imagine his career is not going so well otherwise I doubt he would be going; you don't stop momentum if you have it. At the same time he will always have a large following within the Mormon Church. And maybe that is just fine with him. Perhaps he doesn't need or want more than this. Let him be. Good luck.
I'm not a mormon. I love David Archuleta and was surprised not only when he made his announcement but that everyone there seemed to be applauding and cheering. I began crying (like David) and I haven't stopped since. I can only think of not seeing or hearing from David for the next two years. David has done so much good for such a young man, a boy really, that I can't believe that he should have to do this two-year thing. He worked with the outreach program, raised money with his fans for numerous organizations that needed help such as Muscular Dystropy, Leprosy, he gathered together dentists to fix the teeth of children needing their help. I know when I'm done here I will think of many things I left out (including his generous gift to the Haitians). His good works just keep coming. This young man has lived his faith and all his supporters have felt it. He is a godsent. Must he really do more?
Yes, you should devote your life to your beliefs and your faith in Christ.

I too, believed the silly things I read online. I was challenged by a friend to read from the Book of Mormon & pray to know if it was true. If you believe in any form of a higher power, then you must know that this power would answer you if you prayed to know which church was true. So I did. & I received my answer & witness that the church is indeed true. You can make up any excuse you like to not try this – but I challenge you. Read 1 chapter from the Book of Mormon, then pray & ask if it is true. Just Read & then Ask. You might say "I don't need to ask because I already know its not true, so why waste my time....etc etc etc." Who cares. Read & ask. What are you afraid of?? 🙂 Then you can give an honest opinion because you have done honest research – no matter what your intentions are.
To all of the members out there – may I remind us how many people in the B.O.M. were converted while they tried to destroy the church or prove it was false? Plenty. Do not argue. State truth, bear testimony, & offer others a chance to see for themselves.
I bashed the church once before I was a member, but when challenged I read & prayed. Now I have been a member over a year & I am about to go on a mission of my own.
1 Now I, Moroni, write somewhat as seemeth me good; and I write unto my brethren, the Lamanites; and I would that they should know that more than four hundred and twenty years have passed away since the sign was given of the coming of Christ.
2 And I seal upbthese records, after I have spoken a few words by way of exhortation unto you.
3 Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.
4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.
6 And whatsoever thing is good is just and true; wherefore, nothing that is good denieth the Christ, but acknowledgeth that he is.
7 And ye may know that he is, by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore I would exhort you that ye deny not the power of God; for he worketh by power, according to the faith of the children of men, the same today and tomorrow, and forever.
8 And again, I exhort you, my brethren, that ye deny not the gifts of God, for they are many; and they come from the same God. And there are different ways that these gifts are administered; but it is the same God who worketh all in all; and they are given by the manifestations of the Spirit of God unto men, to profit them.
9 For behold, to one is given by the Spirit of God, that he may teach the word of wisdom;
10 And to another, that he may teach the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
11 And to another, exceedingly great faith; and to another, the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
12 And again, to another, that he may work mighty miracles;
13 And again, to another, that he may prophesy concerning all things;
14 And again, to another, the beholding of angels and ministering spirits;
15 And again, to another, all kinds of tongues;
16 And again, to another, the interpretation of languages and of divers kinds of tongues.
17 And all these gifts come by the Spirit of Christ; and they come unto every man severally, according as he will.
18 And I would exhort you, my beloved brethren, that ye remember that every good gift cometh of Christ.
19 And I would exhort you, my beloved brethren, that ye remember that he is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and that all these gifts of which I have spoken, which are spiritual, never will be done away, even as long as the world shall stand, only according to the unbelief of the children of men.
20 Wherefore, there must be faith; and if there must be faith there must also be hope; and if there must be hope there must also be charity.
21 And except ye have charity ye can in nowise be saved in the kingdom of God; neither can ye be saved in the kingdom of God if ye have not faith; neither can ye if ye have no hope.
22 And if ye have no hope ye must needs be in despair; and despair cometh because of iniquity.
23 And Christ truly said unto our fathers: If ye have faith ye can do all things which are expedient unto me.
24 And now I speak unto all the ends of the earth—that if the day cometh that the power and gifts of God shall be done away among you, it shall be because of unbelief.
25 And wo be unto the children of men if this be the case; for there shall be none that doeth good among you, no not one. For if there be one among you that doeth good, he shall work by the power and gifts of God.
26 And wo unto them who shall do these things away and die, for they die in their sins, and they cannot be saved in the kingdom of God; and I speak it according to the words of Christ; and I lie not.
27 And I exhort you to remember these things; for the time speedily cometh that ye shall know that I lie not, for ye shall see me at the bar of God; and the Lord God will say unto you: Did I not declare my words unto you, which were written by this man, like as one crying from the dead, yea, even as one speaking out of the dust?
28 I declare these things unto the fulfilling of the prophecies. And behold, they shall proceed forth out of the mouth of the everlasting God; and his word shall hiss forth from generation to generation.
29 And God shall show unto you, that that which I have written is true.
30 And again I would exhort you that ye would come unto Christ, and lay hold upon every good gift, and touch not the evil gift, nor the unclean thing.
31 And awake, and arise from the dust, O Jerusalem; yea, and put on thy beautiful garments, O daughter of Zion; and strengthen thy stakes and enlarge thy borders forever, that thou mayest no more be confounded, that the covenants of the Eternal Father which he hath made unto thee, O house of Israel, may be fulfilled.
32 Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God.
33 And again, if ye by the grace of God are perfect in Christ, and deny not his power, then are ye sanctified in Christ by the grace of God, through the shedding of the blood of Christ, which is in the covenant of the Father unto the remission of your sins, that ye become holy, without spot.
34 And now I bid unto all, farewell. I soon go to rest in the paradise of God, until my spirit and body shall again reunite, and I am brought forth triumphant through the air, to meet you before the pleasing bar of the great Jehovah, the Eternal Judge of both quick and dead. Amen.
I am an atheist and while strange, I find what this kid is doing should be commended not condemned. In this era missing two years of public performing is pretty much a death blow to a career, yet he is giving it up in order to follow his belief's and convictions. My hat is off to him, I am not sure I would be doing the same if I was in his shoes.
Go to youtube & search South Park Mormons. That espisode is hilarious AND accurate. You'll learn everything you need to know about LDS. "dum, dum...dum, dum..." Seriously. Check it out.
Ok fine. Look up the actual definition of a cult. If you're judging by that, then yes, Mormonism is a cult. So is every other religious group. There are going to be different kinds of Mormons like there a different kinds of people. Some Mormons take things to the extreme–some are a lot more lax. Some are nice, some aren't so nice. So don't judge our entire religion on what our church leaders are saying, because some of us, while still believing in the Church itself, disbelieve in some of our leaders' decisions. I'm Mormon. I love gay people. I HATE the fact that whatever dumb head in our church thought black people couldn't hold the Priesthood. But a ton of active members thought that at the time, too. I'm just impressed that David Archuleta is willing to give up whatever fame (however small or big) he has for two years.
@@carm – that's bc Jesus loves us all 'cuz He made us...unlike the ppl of the world who make u feel like crap if u don't look like an anorexic supermodel. Sadly, some 'good Christians' aren't much better, so even those trying to live by their beliefs are seen as self-righteous hypocrites. I don't agree w/ some of their tenets, but I would hope they r that nice to non-Mormons. I think it's good what he's doing, but I hope he COULD contact his family.
Good for him for committing time to something he cares about.
As long as he's doing what he believes in I think his fans will support him.
Behold my greatness. For I say unto you, go forth and partake of the spirits. Vodka shalt broden thy horizons and spread cheer.
Behold my greatness. For I say unto you, go forth and partake of the spirits. Thy vodka shalt broden thy horizons.te s
If David Archuleta showed up on my doorstep, I'd melt. He is so adorable, and seems like a great guy. But he'd be wasting his time with me. I don't believe a single word of Mormonism.
You don't believe one word? How many words have you read? http://lds.org/scriptures/bofm/moro/10?lang=eng
Jacob, I resent your comment. Even if you believe your religion is right you should also respect others. Don't act like such a child.
PS Jacob is NOT LDS it's obvious because Mormons don't talk like that!
Us Mormons are the best and you stink just like all the rest. To all you haters at least we arent dirty jews or blacks like you are. You are all just jealous. WE RULE !
By your comments there Jacob, sounds like you're more of a nazi than anything else.
It is 100% obvious you are NOT Mormon! Plz stop saying you are, it's absolutely revolting!!
Yeah. You tell them. All non believers and outsiders are unclean. They need to just shut up and leave us good folk alone. They dont understand and try to twist the truth so we look bad. Plus they make up stuff about our history. Us mormons are the best.
Hey Jake...sounds like you're surely the dimest lightbulb in your clan's box. What are you best at? Grammar? No. Racism? No. Nice try, though. I'm sure the local KKK clan will edumacate you somehow if you give them the chance.
Maybe he'll try to go and revive Mitt Romney's flailing campaign.
Maybe you should check the polls again it seems to me Romney is ahead!
Nice kid. Too bad he's in the wrong religion. Christianity is where it's at, bro.
No, Carm, Christianity lets all the fat chicks in. Mormon women, overall, are HOT HOT HOT. That's what I'd be if I weren't an athiest.
Despite what you think Mormonism is a Christian sect. Non-denominational and Evangelists are not Christians because a Christian would not condemn someone to Hell like these organizations so often do, it’s honestly sad that someone can teach hate under the name of Christ.
R.I.P. Archie's career. Maybe he's going off to sew his wild oats? Maybe the mormons found out he's from another planet? Something's goofy here...as in askew...rotten in Denmark. Either way, it's off to the dust bin of history. Enjoy the downhill slide. Asta la Pasta....
I think the LDS folks have some secrets they keep to themselves.. The Men all have way young wives that don't match up with their childrens ages?? How can a 22 year old wife have a 12 year old son? Very nice people but somthing is going on???
Wrong religion Joe you're thinking of the FLDS Church NOT the Mormons! Do better research next time!
I love when people who don't know anything just make things up. Jive did NOT drop David Archuleta. He fulfilled his contract with them for 3 albums and has generated over a million albums of sales for them. When his contract was up, they offered him an extension and he declined. And we have since seen what was going on with Jive at that time since they no longer exist.
Even after he left Jive, David continued to make music and tour. He did a very successful tour of Asia this summer and is just finishing a Christmas tour here in the US. So, no, he was not sitting at home doing nothing and crying about his lack of career when he made this choice. I respect him for giving up everything to do this. And I'll be excited to see where his career goes when he comes back.
Godspeed.
I do not agree with some of the tenets of the Mormon faith but I've gotta admire a guy who is willing to give 2 years of his life to what he believes in. I'm sure the decision to essentially leave your entire life and family behind is not made lightly.
Good luck to you, David.
George has it right: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeSSwKffj9o
For those of you interested in knowing a little bit more about the church or would like to get your "facts" right the next time you post something about the LDS church, I suggest you to go to the official websites of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints shown below.
http://www.lds.org
wwww.mormon.org/
Actually if you want to know the TRUTH about the LDS Church and its nutty beliefs, it's better to google the THOUSANDS of websites with info about former church members who tell what they lived through and why they left. If you go to the "official" LDS website, you just get more Mormon propaganda. I'd rather hear from folks who aren't brainwashed any longer.
Actually if those websites told you we believe that Red Bull is okay and Coffee is not then you are believing false teachings. We are warned about the dangers of energy drinks like Red Bull, Monster and Rock Star. It is proven that Coffee is bad for your esophagus and energy drinks have unhealthy additives, and "non-LDS" people with enough sense in their head will tell you the same.
If you know the story about "sour grapes" which tells how when the fox couldn't reach the grapes, then he decided that they were sour, so he didn't want them anyway. To me this seems how some leave the church, maybe they are unable to live the high moral standards or decide they want to sin awhile instead, but then they get so far lost they think they can't return, so then they suddenly decide that the church is wrong for a bunch of reasons they never somehow noticed before. This might be to "save ego"? It is really sad to me because repentance is for everyone. Jesus died for all our sins if we will repent of them and come unto him and obey his commandments. It is through baptism that our sins are washed away. May God bless us all with whatever we need most.
How can the mormons have the true church? They use an additional bible written by Joseph Smith. They use books that are proven to be faked? I have no doubt that there are very nice people in the church and that the church does perform some good things. But the fact that they have their own bible (which is against the holy bible) is proof enough that they are not the "true religion"
It's not replacing the Bible in fact the bible is a focal point in our religion The Book of Mormon illustrates this to you, the cover reads: "THE BOOK OF MORMON: ANOTHER TESTAMENT OF JESUS CHRIST", “another” meaning in addition to, not replacing. Several passages from the bible speak of another book of Christ, Isaiah 29:11-12, for instance, prophesies about Joseph Smith and the Book Of Mormon.
Exactly.
THE BOOK OF MORMONISM:
– The history of America does not match the geography described in the BOM.
– NO records of Israel ever show that the Lamanites were ever a tribe in Israel, but EVERY tribe talked about in the bible ( Benjamites, Phillistines, etc. ) are all backed up by records.
– It is impossible that there was a WHOLE other tribe in Israel that set off in a boat journey (on ancient row boats) to America would leave behind no records or archaeology. Every tribe and city talked about in the bible have been found to exist by archaeologists, why would this one be any different?
– For example, cities talked about in the Bible like the City of David and Bet Sheba STILL EXIST, and have kept the same names.
– The BOM names cities and tells the geography of them, but no city like the ones described in the BOM have ever been found.
– If you want to go to cities named in the Bible like Jerusalem, you can! But if you want to go to Zarahemla (a city in the BOM), you can't because it never existed, and scientists have found NO evidence, geography, or records EVER showing that it did.
– The BOM says that there were HORSES and ELEPHANTS and STEEL in America in ancient times. But, its a commonly known fact that horses were brought by the Spanish in the 1700's. Steel wasn't invented yet, and elephants definiteley weren't in America during those times either! It's just that Joseph Smith (THE PERSON WHO FABRICATED THIS FICTIONAL BOOK) wasn't knowledgable enough to create a setting in America that matched ancient times.
– The BOM describes plants, animals, and metals that DIDN'T exist in America during the time the story of the Lamanites supposedly took place.
-In the BOM it is said that the Nephites were "An Empire of Writing and Literature", yet they left NO records of themselves?
– They have found original pieces of The Bible, but NO original copies of the BOM have been found.
– Joseph Smith supposedly translated the bible from a language called "Reformed Egyptian" to "English". But, he only knew ENGLISH (according to people who knew him.)
– Oh, and also, Reformed Egyptian is a FAKE language that never existed... HE MADE IT UP! Any Scientist that specializes in languages will tell you that no such thing exists or existed.
– The BOM describes coins that they used to use in Ancient America, but nobody has ever found coins in ALL of the American Continents (South and North) that outdate the Europeans.
– Unlike in the bible... it describes coins, and archaeologists have found over 90,000 coins alike the ones described in the bible.
– We've found archaeology and evidence of SMALL battles that were described in the bible, but have found no evidence of ANY battles described in the Book Of Mormon.
– One battle in the BOM supposedly took 2 million lives. That is a HUGE battle, but no evidence was ever found that that existed. But in the bible it describes battles as small as 600 people that have been PROVEN to have happened by Archaeology.
– When they find places like "Jerusalem" that existed in Bible times, Christians are eager to dig them up, and when they do, they find TONS of archaeology... but when Mormons find places they CLAIM to be ancient Mormon cities, they never dig them up, because they fear that they'll find nothing. (Why do they fear that? NOTHING has ever been found before!)
– Mormons refuse to excavate the Hill-Kamora (Spell check).
– The book of Mormon has 1000's of grammatical and geographical and physical mistakes.... all that have been CORRECTED by the board of Mormons who oversee the BOM. Unlike the Bible which hasn't ever been MODIFIED because of mistakes.
– AND this is funny... you know how Mormons will always TELL you they ARE Christians?: The PRESIDENT of the MORMON CHURCH is on video/audio saying:
" We do not believe in the Christian Christ. "
I'm so sorry that it seems so many on here, have believed stuff that is not true about Mormons. For instance, We not only believe the Bible (we use the KJV) we actually give anyone who asks for one a FREE one! (we promote people reading it!) and the Book of Mormon, is a second witness for Jesus Christ. (you can get a free one mailed to you just like the Bible too, just go to Mormon.org). There you can also look up FAQ or have a live chat. Then you can speak with more intelligence about others beliefs, but please let Mormons, LDS explain them.
Also, we have always had blacks in our churches, in our benches, we have never been segregated, but the priesthood was held in reserve for them till God said it was time. That time did not come under the press of protestors but years later with the humble pleading of the Prophet President Kimball.
We certainly are not the same as FLDS – any more than Protestants are still in the Catholic church. (Any who practice plural marriage today and for the past 120 years are excommunicated)
I live in utah and know all about the mormons and know that archulettas career is dead. He's just using the mormom church to get his name out there again..
Why do Mormons have such young wifes? ! My neighbor is 47 years old and his wife looks like she's 16? They have 5 kids – ages 3-14. When I first met her I asked "What does your Dad do for a living?"
May I add... A lot is two words.
Alot=wrong
A lot = correct
This two year period will ruin his career. You have to stay in front of the fans or they will forget and move on.
I'm sure he does not care about his career being ruined.
Your bigotry astounds me and is the reason our religion is one of the fastest growing in the world, granted missionaries do a lot of work for the church, but, a majority of converts were people who have heard the mean & evil things that people spout off about the church and they want to see if any of it is true. So keep spreading your opinions it only builds us up, and if you choose to learn the truth we will welcome you with open arms. Pray about it and the Lord will open your hearts to receive the true teachings of Christ.
The truth? Explain to me in one sentence what the truth is.
I'll give you a few sentences that our true. Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins. Christian Evangelists accept a salary, where LDS leaders are not paid, for teaching the word of God, as they see it. The LDS Church believes one solid belief and does not vary by location unlike other churches. We have a living breathing Prophet, Thomas S. Monson, on the earth today who only teaches good, and to love one another.

smart business move. I doubt he has many fans anymore other than his church fans. Those Idol people fade fast. He'll cement his fan-hood. (wonder how those church fans will respond when he comes out of the closet...)
Given his foundering music "career," a couple of years off can't hurt.
WOW.................. a mexican mormon??? What's up with that? I thought all mexicans were Catholic, it is probably due to living in SLC and the only way you can get any respect from the mormons is to join there church, cult or whatever you want to call it, either way it is a shame, that in this FREE country that a religion can have such an influence on a state.... That is one of the reasons the founding fathers fled Europe was for freedeom of religion, but not in Utah... they run the show.... too bad it is a beautiful state
Its a beautiful state because the mormons made it that way. If you knew what you were talking about you'd know that when the mormons escaped being hunted down they came to Utah, a desert back then, and they built it from the ground and made it the beautiful state it is now. By contradicting yourself you expose your empty claims and ignorance. Get a brain buddy.
Legions, I'm sure you're right. I'm sure the Mormons took the desert of Utah and created the beautiful mountains and valleys that exist there now. You're an ignorant fool. The only redeeming quality about Utah now is the mountains and desert. The people certainly don't make you want to stay...
obviously you have not done any research! In hispanic comunnities such as: Bogotá Colombia, Barranquilla Colombia, Campinas Brazil, Caracas Venezuela, Ciudad Juárez México, Cochabamba Bolivia, Colonia Juárez Chihuahua México, Concepción Chile, Córdoba Argentina, Curitiba Brazil, Buenos Aires Argentina, Fortaleza Brazil, Guadalajara México , Guatemala City Guatemala , Guayaquil Ecuador,Hermosillo Sonora México, Lima Perú, Lisbon Portugal, Madrid Spain, Manaus Brazil, Merida Mexico, Mexico City Mexico, Monterrey Mexico, Montevideo Uruguay, Oaxaca Mexico, Panama City Panama, Porto Alegre Brazil, Quetzaltenango Guatelmala, Recife Brazil, San Jose Costa Rica, San Salvador El Salvador, Santiago Chile, Santo Domingo Dominican Rep, Sao Paulo Brazil, Tampico Mexico, Tegucigalpa Honduras, Tijuana Mexico, Tuxtla Gutierrez Mexico, Veracruz Mexico, Villahermosa Mexico, and these citys have ones that are under construction: Córdoba Argentina, Fortaleza Brazil, Barranquilla Colombia, Concepción Chile, Lisbon Portugal, Tijuana México, so saying that all mexican or hispanics are only Catholic unless they are in Utah is rediculous!! No one in Utah is forced to be Mormon nor are they disrepected because they aren't Mormon, are there people in Utah who do this probably but to say that ALL Mormons do this is perposterous!
As a lifelong member of the LDS church I can assure you we no longer descriminate against outsiders and nonbelievers. We respect your right to be a heathen druggie and gang member. You outsiders know no more about our beliefs than a fish knows about driving a tractor. Just believe what you want. We know we are the one true religion and the rest of you are just losers.
Scott....spoken like a true Christian!
A person of any faith would not talk like you. Although I would love to add that when the Mormon Church in Kamloops, BC sent a request via the man who fathered my daughter, asking me to sign a letter stating I would not be looking for child support while her father served on a mormon mission it sent a message that the mormon church does not acknowledge non mormon children as being deserving. The church and the birth father thought that baptizing him mormon and supporting him while he knocked on doors in another country was more valuable than raising a child that he was untilmately responsible for. If I belonged to a church that supported actions like this....I would leave!
Hey Patti. I am sorry about your experience. It may be due to the laws in BC compared to the states. Back in the '80s when I served a mission, I had a cousin who was divorced with two children. He was able to serve a mission only after he could prove that he had put away enough money to pay this children's child support while he was away. With the missionary worthiness guidelines that are used today, a person with parent and financial responsibilities is not able to serve a mission.
by the way, for all those interested there is an occupy religon event coming up that we should all attend. It's our chance to object to others backward beliefs in god. Go to move on.org for details
oh, and liberalism too
I think that it is wonderful that this guy is trying to help others.
Helping others? Only in his eyes. The "mission" is to convert as many people as they possibly can. PERIOD. Help others? Nothing farther from the truth. Very much sugar coating the actual reason for going on a mission. I am a recovering Mormon and an well versed in the point of one's "mission" CONVERT CONVERT CONVERT. That is the entire complete point. To convince others that when married in the Temple after they die they will than becomes God's of their own planet. People of color are welcome because paying tythe is the point. However people of color are NOT allowed to hold any preisthood rank. They are only welcome participants. The reason...you want to know? Well when Jesus was in America and assended into heavan only took thosw who were "worthy". The people left behind wanted to go to heavan so badly they climbed the highest mountain they could find and because it was so close to the sun their skin turned dark....UM...HELLO! Very good people in the church. YES! But the beleifs are so strange I had to exit before I was going to go nuts!
@Pete. hahahahaha. Good one budd. Try looking up the leadership of our church and then tell me that only whites are in positions of leadership. They have blacks, whites, asians, and people from almost every race imaginable in fulfilling leadership roles. It really was a good try though, it might have fooled me if I didn't know better. Try again.
Does "recovering Mormon" mean you're a Mormon recovering from some kind of psychotic problem or head trauma? Because it didn't take this non-Mormon two seconds on Google to debunk your claims. Someone is obviously a brainwashed Baptist or Evangelical. Seriously, drive by their church billboards and see their Sunday message advertised as "the evil Mormon religion." Like someone else said, they gotta devote sermons to lying about Mormons cuz they need yo' money.
Mormonism is a cult, just like Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and pretty much every other religion. The only provable truth is science.
I love science and have committed my life to applying science in health care, but there are limitations to what science can prove. Faith and religion can explore truths that can't be uncovered by science.
That is funny because science is always changing and is not always "provable." Have you read about them possibly finding a molecule that is faster than the speed of light? What everyone thought was an absolute for so long may be wrong....
Faith can't prove anything. That's why it is called faith. You have faith that something is true in the absence of any evidence or proof. With science we can conjecture, test, and prove or disprove theories with virtual certainty. While there is always a chance our understanding will change and previously held truths will be proven wrong, we can always keep working to uncover the truth. No one can prove anything when it comes to religion. It's all just stories people choose to believe in.
I concur Guy. Science has proven alot more than religion has. Religion's are based on made up stories and never change. Science may change but at least it is getting some where. Where would we be today with out science? Certainly not in front of our computers typing out these comments. If we only relied on religion we would still be riding horses and killing others who didn't follow our religion. Waiting for God to some day show his face on judgement day, or what ever that day is that so many people have been and continue to wait for.
Ken is right.
David is actually a huge star in Asia, and has a big latin following. He also is appearing on the MoTab Christmas concert presently, the highest-rated show PBS airs all year.
It's true that his American career has fallen off lately, but that's because his label, Jive, was melting down and crashed three months ago. Contrary to rumor, David left Jive on his own, due to mismanagement.
He left his management team at the time, and, vindictive, is was THEY who tweeted the rumor that he'd been cut against his will.
I'm not happy he's going under for two years, but I respect his decision to do so.
still with mom. 🙂 my wife hates it but it's free.
how about you? Still living with your mom or did you move out yet?
nope, still looking
hey Opie, haven't talked to you since the occupy oakland event. That was sweet dude. Have you found a job yet?
Oh David Archuleta, good luck to you on your journey. Don't ever change.
The haters is why the world is in a mess it is. people are mean spirited, unhappy in their lives. I could tell by some comments here. But positive always wins over negative. I don't get angry with haters, i just think they are sad in their lives. It's a human nature thing, lol But like John Lennon said Imagine all the people living as one? Is that possible? well not by these comments. Sorry John. PEACE to everyone, even to those who hate
Haters gonna hate.
we also stopped wearing horns in the 90's. it's obvious i'm not really mormon, right.
Well said! @ Brent
No BYU Tv you are not a loser. The fact that you state facts is according to Mormans hateful. Why is their religion so secretive. If there is nothing to fear then why hide things and let a rational discussion begin. I still can't see past the fact that Joseph Smith fired at people when he was martyred. A martyr does not fire at people, yet this fact is overlooked. I don't hate the Mormans but sending a man out on a mission where he can not have contact with his familhy or friends sounds like BRAINWASHING. When you are repeatedly told not to discuss your religion with others or view them as heathens and treat them as such, yeah my wife was treated this way at a party once. She told me to respect them and their religion, when she came back she changed her mind.
See my post above, namely referring to learning to spell... And I'm just curious, as far as defining martyr, does it say you can't die fighting? Correct me if I'm wrong, but he did in fact die over his beliefs, and that classifies as a martyr. And I especially enjoy the old 'brainwashed' argument – go look up all of just the famous Mormons* (there's your spelling, just in case you're too brainwashed/inbred to not have caught it yourself), excluding the millions of others, who pay 10% of their income, many gave 2 years of their time to promote their faith, and give countless hours of unpaid service... I'd have to say that's one awesome brainwash job... or could it be that they've thought it out and simply believe it's true? Crazy I know, and before you go nit-picking any particular belief (which I doubt you can accurately do, seeing as you most likely get your info from anti-Mormon websites or your preacher, who is financially motivated to keep you under their thumb), as far as Christians go, many have oddities – Catholics believe they're actually eating Christ's body and drinking his blood during communion, all of the other sects are all break offs of the Catholic church, and if modern day revelation is such an outlandish idea (Joseph Smith), they're all man made counterfeits of the Catholics... I can't wait to hear some well thought out reply!!
I beg of you, sir, to get some REAL education on the Mormon faith. It is unclear who you’ve been encountering, but it appears that they have been pretending to be a Mormon and be, as you put it, secretive. I can assure you, however, that as a Mormon, we aren’t any more secretive than any other religion. Every Mormon I know has never shied away from a real discussion on the true history and beliefs of our faith. In fact, I encourage people outside of my faith to ask me any question they want about the Mormon faith as I’d rather be able to tell them the truth and set the record straight than continue to see them run around with untruths in their head and continuing to perpetuate lies, misunderstandings, and other rumors which are often misguided and vile to say the least.
As for your mission/brainwashing comment: did you ever stop to consider the strength of character and independence that one can gain from such a worthy endeavor? Aside from missionaries of other religions or any of this country’s brave service men and women who have been deployed, I doubt anyone could understand the faith, strength of character, and determination it takes to sacrifice and serve in such a caring and educational opportunity. And just so you know, as a man who completed a mission for my church, I can tell you that the Mormon missionaries are encouraged to write a letter to their parents weekly and are permitted to phone their parents on Christmas and one other day (usually Mother’s Day).
And finally, regarding your “repeatedly told not to discuss your religion with others or view them as heathens and treat them as such” remark. Again, you are way off base. I grew up in the Mormon faith as did several generations before me. I’ve never been told not to discuss our religion and I’ve never been instructed to, nor on my own decided to view others as heathens. I’d like to challenge you to review your remarks and gain some insight on the true nature of things before you launch another rant that is based in misunderstandings or falsehoods.
'Colored people'? -hopefully that was a joke.
Does anyone find it amazing that there is so much hatred expressed by people over a kind young man deciting to serve others as a volinteer for two years of his life? What we are seeing are examples of fieans of the infernal pit who are so full of anger and wickedness that there is little anyone can say or do to save them from great sorrow and a dim future. The cult comment and meaningless that I just yawn when I see it posted by so called Christians who have no clue what it means to be Christian.
To all you Saying bad things about the LDS. Hey-We accept colored people into our church now. Have since the 1970s. You need to grow up.
Ummm you lost me at "colored people". You deserve whatever ridicule comes your way in my opinion just for making statements like that.
So you are basically saying no one should talk bad about the LDS because they let, as you called them, "colored people' into the church? What kind of idiot are you? You have alot of balls making that comment! Just because they haven't discriminated since the 1970's, which might I add is a bit late, does not make them righteous and beyond ridicule. Get a clue retard!
PLEASE CHANGER YOUR NAME YOU ARE NOT LDS NOR HAVE YOU EVER BEEN AN ELDER!!! LDS PEOPLE DO NOT TALK LIKE THAT! YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY TOO STUPID TO KNOW THAT! GET A LIFE!!
Actually, blacks have always been members of the church, from the very earliest days. It was only the priesthood that was an issue, but if you read the Old Testament, you'll see that when the priesthood of Aaron was first introduced, only his family could hold it and they had to be not only a certain race, but they couldn't have any blemishes or disabilities. The priesthood was never available to everyone withut restrictions in Biblical times. The church never taught that blacks were cursed. Some Mormons–including leaders–believed it, but it was never doctrine. Unlike many churches, Mormon leaders are allowed to have personal opinions where there is no official doctrine. It's instructive to read what Bruce R. McConkie said when blacks got the priesthood. He was the primary source for some of the false information, and he very humbliy and correctly explained that he had been wrong.
thanks, i think i will educate myself.
just kidding. I actually know that morons are really good people.
A good kid with heart. Can't say that about the Beiber brat.
I used to think of Mormons as cult-like but decided to educate myself and learn more. While I don't agree with all of their beliefs, they're basically extremely devoted Christians with strong family values. If you think any religion is without it's quirks, I suggest you educate yourself also.
I have mad respect for what David's doing. Although we don't hear him on crappy top 40 radio anymore, he still has a lucrative career. Believe me, he's sacrificing plenty by doing this. I know I don't have it in me to walk away from much less than he is. Do you?
Magnets. How do they work?
Been a while since we've had a good old-fashioned Mormon-bashin'! This really takes me back. Ah memories of my early days on the Marquee.
You want to know why people are Mormons?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMwKxmTLaCs
Lol, I figured there would be the few 50 or 60 something year old losers living in La La Land that had nothing better to do than Mormon-bash, and I wasn't disappointed! 'Magic underwear', 'hating blacks', blah blah blah... glad to see you think the best way to promote your values is to try and tear down others. Congratulations on a Christ-like life. Happy Holidays, try to take a spelling class or two, maybe actually find out what Mormons believe so you don't look quite so handy-capped, and enjoy those welfare checks and keep voting liberal! Godspeed you awesome people!
Whenever I've asked Mormons what they believed all I ever got was, "The church is true..." Most Mormons don't know what they believe, only that their parents believed it and go to church so they do the same... I would love to know what the actual Mormon faith consists of.
It's not the 50- or 60- somethings who are typing the drivel, it's the stupid kids who are out of school for the holidays. You always see a rise in idiotic posts about "poop", about how everyone is a lunatic except them, and then there's the "all religion is useless" group. There are no sensible, interesting "Opinions"; it's just rude loser drivel from people who have no real knowledge or true opinions. Sad to see....
Clearly. Thank you for your amazingly enlightened insight into my personal belief system. You're a wonderful human being.
Help, or a job. Lol
the things i posted about mormons is wrong. It just makes me feel better to talk bad about others. I need help
Ask me about Joseph Smith.
ok, i admit i'm a loser
mean-spirited posters: shouldn't you be down at the occupy wall street event? There are a bunch of losers just like you down there now. You could make some friends there.
MORMONISM = CULT.
What do you mean by cult. You don't even know what that means. Mormons are the best people on the planet. They are the kindest most Christlike people I know. They actually live their beliefs. They are very moral, clean of body, and spiritual. Just because you don't understand doesn't mean normal people like us don't. We see our Latter day saint neighbors, and know them to be very devout and loving. Despite your misunderstanding of their doctrine, Just spend ten minutes with an active member of the church and you'll see they are Christians of the highest caliber.
Kent, you couldn't be MORE dilusional... I lived in Salt Lake City, UT for 26 years as someone who was not a part of the LDS religion and had never been treated so badly by supposed "Christian" people. While I do have a lot of friends who are Mormon and great people, there are a lot of people who will treat you like you are worthless and a horrible person if you do not belong to their religion. The religiouslature there creates laws based on their beliefs and what the "Prophet" tells them to do. Companies that are local hire people because they are RM's that know bishop so-and-so. It's a joke. I got out of there 3 years ago and never plan to go back.
No, you mean Mormonism is a SCAM.
Ive got two sister-in-laws who are morons(momons) and they treatntheir mother like crap just because she is not a moron(momon) This is not a religion but is a cult, read about it. What other real religions belive nthat you can become god or be baptized for the dead?
Just because its different, or something that those of you aren't familiar with, doesn't mean he needs to be persecuted for his beliefs. I admire anyone who has a strong belief system, and stands up for their beliefs and what they think is right. There is a hige push to end bullying within adolecents. I believe bullying stems from adults. Most of the comments above are good examples of that.
there is hope for the mean-spirited posters. I'll be your friend. You can stop living in this fantasy online world you've created for yourself to dull the pain of loneliness. So sad for you.
He should come to the North Korea. He could sing the praises of the Dear Leader. I'm not sure if anyone would convert to Mormonism but he'd be welcome to try.
I wish, North Korea won't let any LDS missionaries in their country
I'm getting ready to leave for my mission in February. It's a wonderful thing he is doing and will be blessed immensely when he "Returns with Honor." It's a great privilege and he's giving up so much to do something for him that will bless him and his family but most importantly, giving up all of this so he can dedicate his time to the Lord. Way to go, David!
Our neighbor's 21 year old son is almost done w/his 2 year mission. He has written numerous letters to us from S.America and honestly, his letters sound like a brainwashed robot wrote them. The LDS church leaders must read the letters and this kid just spouts off numerous Mormon verses and quotes from Joseph Smith. It's like the guy is afraid to write anything "real" about his experiences, lest he get in trouble from the Mormon leaders. Seriously, Karen. I know you're all excited but you won't return to any "honor" other than from your own LDS friends. The rest of us "worldly" folks think you're in a cult and are bothered by your church's pushy, arrogant & cult-like door-knockers. The Mormons we know CONSTANTLY talk about their church does this, their church does that...it gets OOOOOLD. They are all about good works...trying to earn their way to some celestial kingdom...so they can rule w/their MULTIPLE WIVES in heaven. Ick!!
Any young person–Mormon, Catholic, Jew, whatever–who gives up one or two years of his or her life to serve the Lord in whatever capacity has earned my respect. David is all about loving God and loving others. He's the real deal.
They claim the FLDS isnt LDS. Fact is, it is. When LDS broke away espousing more liberal views, the FLDS just kept their original mormon beliefs. Multiple wives. Marrying children as young as 12 years old. Refusing to pay taxes. Considering Utah as not part of the US. etc. These are all mormon beliefs. Or were up unil the 1970s. Mormonism is a cult.
What an idiot! You have no clue about the church and are just as bigoted as the other pinheads out there who claim they know all about it. Get a life!
Define cult. Not sure you know what the word means.
Wrong. Failure.
Wow...I love invented history. It makes the real world so much more exciting and interesting!
It is truly amazing to see which responder is flapping their lips and spouting out words that in reality are based on nothing
but half-truths, lies, gossip, hatred, hear-say, etc. If you actually pin them down... anyone could tell they really have
no idea what their talking about. Example: if anyone had half a brain they'd know that the FLDS church and The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are totally different. FLDS is a splinter group from the LDS Church.
Then bringing up polygamy (which hasn't been practiced for over 100 years) is like bringing up burning all the poor souls
who where disposed of in the Catholic Church all those years ago. Honestly, get your head out of the ditch and at least
check your facts before you stick your foot in your mouth.
I bet this dude gets a boat-load of p00nana
if you are attacking this kid for his beliefs, you are revealing your true nature – loser. So sorry you got picked on in school and had no friends. But that's not an excuse for trying to strike back at the world thru anonymous postings that help you feel better about yourself. It's actually hurting you more and the rest of us don't care to hear about your personal issues that are revealed in your posts. Get some help – please!
Up until the 70s they considered blacks as cursed people. They have a long history of ignoring US laws. They make up their own crazy laws as they go along. They deny their past history of organized criminal activity, etc.
Mormons have always followed the law. You should look up Proclamation to the World and read it
Yep. In Sept.'78, the LDS hurch leaders received their so-called "revelation" (LOL!!!) that it was suddenly OK for blacks to participate in temple ceremonies and to hold leadership/priesthood positions in their church. Mormons just don't want us to remember these pesky facts. They were an extremely racist religion and let's not forget their history of multiple wives!
Yes. And until 38 AD (8 years after Christ died), the chosen people of Israel could not mingle with gentiles. It was against the law. In 38 AD Peter baptized the first gentile ever because he finally was given a revelation that it was OK to teach the Gospel to non Jewish people for the first time in over 3,000 years. It was a real shocker! According to the New Testament, the other Apostles and disciples couldn't believe that he was doing it! What was really "atrocious" is that Peter actually BAPTIZED a Roman centurion!!! It was appalling!
So, they changed for the better - I can see why you hold that against them
His worldwide fans including me are going to miss him a lot. It will be a long wait but we can do it. I'm very proud of David for always sticking to his values and always following his heart.
Best comment I've read on this post so far. I don't care if people agree or disagree with the LDS church, I do find interesting and somewhat alarming the level of intolerance and hate some people have toward religion in general. I agree with you, I applaud people who stick to their values and principles no matter what they are.
I completely agree. Would these type of negative comments be acceptable if we were speaking about someone of the Jewish faith?
On their history shows on BYU TV all they do is whine about how they think they have been persecuted. The exact opposite is true. Their history is full of racism and prejudice against all non LDS members.
What religion has not had a pasted history that they are embrassed to mention. The Cathloics murder thousands for a city and follows of Judah killed because of taking more the ten steps on the sabbath day during the time of Christ. Everybody has dark times, the LDS church believes in doctrine and their laws are not made up. If you can sit their and talk about something you may or may not know about in such a hateful way what does that say about your character.
you can tell who the lonely, friendless people are by their mean-spirited postings. If you are attacking this kid or his beliefs, you are a loser. Now that you know – that you're a loser, know that there is hope for you.
I agree with you..
Mormons are just so odd. If you try watching BYU tv youll see they are nutters.
I'm not Mormon, and I watch BYU-TV occasionally. I think it's a good network, and I see nothing "nutty" about anything shown on there. They have some wonderful music shows from Brigham Young University, for instance. I once enjoyed one of the best bluegrass concerts I'd ever heard on there, performed by music students. Not a nutter in the bunch.
I agree with Tracie!
And Joseph Smith went forth and multiplied with Brigham Young. And they had many children.
Seriously guys? What happened to little bit of respect or even tolerance? I'd like to see you give up essentially millions of dollars to serve as an unpaid volunteer for something that you believe in and work 10 to 14 hour days six days a week. Actually meet some Mormons and talk to them, or just see what kind of people they really are before you believe the crap you read on the internet. Think about it. Is there anything actually qualitatively different about Mormon beliefs that make them any weirder than any other religion?
Millions of dollars!? HAHA! what a joke. the guy doesn't have a career anymore. His record label dropped him, because he doesn't have any sales. He's doing this because he has no career and he knows it. What a joke ....
.....He's currently finishing up a sold out Christmas tour with 13 sold out concerts, and if you estimate that those pay a (lowish) base fee of ~$150,000 per concert without considering his cut of the ticket sales... you can do the math. Also the point about him being dropped by his label – clearly you're not familiar with the context – Jive Records was in dire economic straits due to the recession at the time and closed down in October, so him getting "dropped" was more of a sign of the broader economic environment than a reflection of his quality as a musician.
Either way he's already made more money than any of us have and probably could just be hanging around and setting up a tour for a month.
Well, have fun bashing someone who you've never met and know little about. You're setting a great example, adults. If you are actually an adult.
No one has tolerance anymore. Religion is slowly becoming obsolete. No one needs it anymore and if you are a strict follower of any religion, people see you as a weirdo. It's just the truth. People who bad mouth others have the same rights as everyone else. They are allowed to say what ever they are thinking. It's called freedom of speech. People are slowly learning that all these different religions don't mean what they used to. They are all made up by people we don't know. How can you be sure they know what god wants you to do? How do they know Jesus really existed? None of them have brought forth any tangible evidence. So in reality...these followers are just listening to some weirdo who made up their own religion and were able to convince these people that they are right and that they should do as they are commanded. Sheep, basically.
Wow Nikki...no one has ever thought about that before. Oh wait, the "religion is irrelevant and fading away" argument has been around forever and guess what, religion is still here. Try again!!!
I thought he was a juu like Kyle.
Didnt know they have gay mormons.
Jerk!
Tons!
Why not? They obviously have idiotic willlbuurrr's
I hope he remembers to bring his magic mormon unnerwear and the magic talking hat.
It's nice to hear that someone is putting what they believe in before the mighty $$$
How many of us would do that ? I probably wouldn't, The World needs more people who are willing
to choose good things over money
Your obviously having a anger issue that needs to be addressed. This comment is uncalled for and another good example of the mean spirited remarks that are often made by the Mormon bigots.
your an idiot!
You must be one of those Mormon haters from Utah. They post sneering comments like that on the Salt Lake Tribune website all the time. Very unhappy people, apparently.
Before you all jump on the "unselfish" bandwagon, you should learn something about LDS proselytizing. It's far from unselfish.
For all you knuckleheads who don't understand....
"You're" is the contraction for "You are"
Jed- care to elaborate as to how serving a mission is selfish as you seem to claim it is? Being a Mormon myself all the missionaries I have encountered have been anything but selfish. So please do tell, how this young man serving a mission would be a slefish thing?
this is probably the dumbest comment ever made by anyone EVER!
I recall Mormon missionaries telling me that Jeebus came back and visited the USA somewhere near Branson, Missouri and preoclaimed, "Let there be a place here where low grade morons could find entertainment".
Did they spell that right. I didnt think it had but 1 m in it. That middle M is silent.
@michelle, you're right – They included one too many M's in there. I should know, I am one.
Sincerely,
A Mor[m]on.
Hmm... I always though of morons as people who make generalizations about an entire group.
I'm sure there are "morons" who are Mormon, morons who are Catholic, atheist, Protestant, etc.
If someone is a moron for having a belief that is not one YOU agree with, then we're all morons. I'm sure we all have beliefs other people don't share.
Good for him for doing something unselfish that he believes in. How many other people would put fame and a career on hold to SERVE OTHERS for 2 years?
Allz I know is that if he shows up at my house I'm totally showing him my boobs.
