David Archuleta to embark on Mormon mission

Fresh-faced “American Idol” star David Archuleta is putting his promising career aside for a higher calling.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Archuleta – or Archie, as he’s known to fans – has announced that he’s embarking on a Mormon mission.

The 20-year-old Utah native shared his news at the Salt Lake City stop of his My Kind of Christmas Tour. “I would like to make a special announcement: That I’ve chosen to serve a full-time mission,” he told the audience.

“It’s not because someone told me I was supposed to do it and not because I no longer want to do music anymore,” the “Idol” season 7 runner-up explained to the crowd. “It’s because it’s what I feel I need to do next in my life.”

This means Archie will be sent abroad (or possibly somewhere in the United States) to proselytize his faith. He’ll have limited contact with family and friends, a strict schedule and will wear the traditional dress clothes of a missionary.

Mormon.org describes the missionary’s experience: “During their two years of full time service they devote themselves to studying, meeting people and teaching about Jesus Christ and His restored Church.”

But Archuleta won’t be trading in his tour bus for a bicycle just yet – on Wednesday, the singer will perform the last show on his Christmas tour in Beaver Creek, Colorado.

    Generally I do not read article on blogs, however I would like to say that this write-up very forced me to try and do so! Your writing style has been amazed me. Thanks, very great article.

    I thought he was gay? I didn't know that gay mormons could serve missions. WOW! They don't approve of gay marriage, they conducted experiments to try and "cure" them back in UT years ago. I guess they let him go because he's famous? Very strange...

    I'm grateful to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I served a 2 year mission in Brasil, and got back last July, and it was honestly the coolest thing I ever did. I can speak fluent Portuguese, have hundreds of Brasilian friends, know the places where I served like the back of my hand, and get messages regularly from the families and individuals that I helped come to know Jesus Christ better. I came to know Jesus Christ better. It brought incredible meaning to my life. We spend much of our days working and earning money, and that's fine. But when you spend all of your time serving people, it's something else. David will be happier for having served as a missionary. He knows because I served with one of his best friends. We were in Brasil together 2 years ago. David knows what he's doing and he knows he'll never regret it.

    I came on this website to read the good news of David, and I happen to see tons of rude comments on the LDS religon as I scroll down. What kind of people have we become? That goes for other various religons too. No one has the right to make fun of any religion. What happened to Love one another? Mormons may have strange beliefs but that doesn't mean you have to comment such nasty things. As that saying goes," If you want to say something mean, don't say it at all."]

    Yeah it had NOTHING to do with getting dropped by his record label. What I have always wanted to know is why so many Mormon men are effeminate. I worked for Marriott for years and we always got these guys from SLC who were going to law or med school here and they all set off gaydar and 90% of them were straight. Then I worked in SLC for m few months a few years ago and honestly the ex-LDS in the gay bars were butcher than the straight boys.

    Hatred is a reflection of a personal flaw in ones character. Apparently someone has trouble getting over their personal anger issues. Personally I am not a big fan of Archuleta (not my style of music), but I appreciate the fact he gave up two years of his life to serve something he thinks is bigger than himself. You don't see that much in an ego driven music business where it is all about personal ego and personal wants. It will be a tough couple of years for him, but then it normally is for most Mormons who go on missions. You work hard and you learn that hard work doesn't always lead to great success, but ou work hard because there exists a larger vision you agree with.

    Man, every time I read a post on Mormonism, all these whiny, bigoted people come out and start slamming Mormons.

    I challenge anyone to tell ME how MY Mormon faith (as practiced by ME) has hurt myself or anyone I know – Guess what? You can't because you don't know ME or what I believe. But I guess that's what bigots are all about – paint everyone with a broad brush.

    The intolerance in the world (and even where it exists in the Mormon Church Culture) really bums me out!

    Merry Christmas everyone!!!

    Really this is ridiculous, a young man has decided to go on a religious mission. Whatever his religion why is it necessary to prattle on for hours about him deciding to do it or why. No one knows what is really the basis of another persons decisions.

    i have seen better behaving decent Mormons than some of you. Although I am not a Mormon (Baptist), I came to a conclusion that Christians, Mormons, Catholics all believe the same truth ; Believe in Jesus Christ who was born in human form, died on the cross to redeem our sins, and rose again to save us from eternal hell. David Archuleta is the first one who taught me how to not judge others and love them regardless of differences. He shows what a faithful person should be by an example. His pure soul, love for God, care for fellow human always touch me and so many others. Hard to find this gem these days.

    Let David make his own decisions. I am sure he will have a good experience. That being said I would imagine his career is not going so well otherwise I doubt he would be going; you don't stop momentum if you have it. At the same time he will always have a large following within the Mormon Church. And maybe that is just fine with him. Perhaps he doesn't need or want more than this. Let him be. Good luck.

    I'm not a mormon. I love David Archuleta and was surprised not only when he made his announcement but that everyone there seemed to be applauding and cheering. I began crying (like David) and I haven't stopped since. I can only think of not seeing or hearing from David for the next two years. David has done so much good for such a young man, a boy really, that I can't believe that he should have to do this two-year thing. He worked with the outreach program, raised money with his fans for numerous organizations that needed help such as Muscular Dystropy, Leprosy, he gathered together dentists to fix the teeth of children needing their help. I know when I'm done here I will think of many things I left out (including his generous gift to the Haitians). His good works just keep coming. This young man has lived his faith and all his supporters have felt it. He is a godsent. Must he really do more?

    I too, believed the silly things I read online. I was challenged by a friend to read from the Book of Mormon & pray to know if it was true. If you believe in any form of a higher power, then you must know that this power would answer you if you prayed to know which church was true. So I did. & I received my answer & witness that the church is indeed true. You can make up any excuse you like to not try this – but I challenge you. Read 1 chapter from the Book of Mormon, then pray & ask if it is true. Just Read & then Ask. You might say "I don't need to ask because I already know its not true, so why waste my time....etc etc etc." Who cares. Read & ask. What are you afraid of?? 🙂 Then you can give an honest opinion because you have done honest research – no matter what your intentions are.

    To all of the members out there – may I remind us how many people in the B.O.M. were converted while they tried to destroy the church or prove it was false? Plenty. Do not argue. State truth, bear testimony, & offer others a chance to see for themselves.

    I bashed the church once before I was a member, but when challenged I read & prayed. Now I have been a member over a year & I am about to go on a mission of my own.

    1 Now I, Moroni, write somewhat as seemeth me good; and I write unto my brethren, the Lamanites; and I would that they should know that more than four hundred and twenty years have passed away since the sign was given of the coming of Christ.

    2 And I seal upbthese records, after I have spoken a few words by way of exhortation unto you.

    3 Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.

    4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

    5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.

    6 And whatsoever thing is good is just and true; wherefore, nothing that is good denieth the Christ, but acknowledgeth that he is.

    7 And ye may know that he is, by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore I would exhort you that ye deny not the power of God; for he worketh by power, according to the faith of the children of men, the same today and tomorrow, and forever.

    8 And again, I exhort you, my brethren, that ye deny not the gifts of God, for they are many; and they come from the same God. And there are different ways that these gifts are administered; but it is the same God who worketh all in all; and they are given by the manifestations of the Spirit of God unto men, to profit them.

    9 For behold, to one is given by the Spirit of God, that he may teach the word of wisdom;

    10 And to another, that he may teach the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

    11 And to another, exceedingly great faith; and to another, the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

    12 And again, to another, that he may work mighty miracles;

    13 And again, to another, that he may prophesy concerning all things;

    14 And again, to another, the beholding of angels and ministering spirits;

    15 And again, to another, all kinds of tongues;

    16 And again, to another, the interpretation of languages and of divers kinds of tongues.

    17 And all these gifts come by the Spirit of Christ; and they come unto every man severally, according as he will.

    18 And I would exhort you, my beloved brethren, that ye remember that every good gift cometh of Christ.

    19 And I would exhort you, my beloved brethren, that ye remember that he is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and that all these gifts of which I have spoken, which are spiritual, never will be done away, even as long as the world shall stand, only according to the unbelief of the children of men.

    20 Wherefore, there must be faith; and if there must be faith there must also be hope; and if there must be hope there must also be charity.

    21 And except ye have charity ye can in nowise be saved in the kingdom of God; neither can ye be saved in the kingdom of God if ye have not faith; neither can ye if ye have no hope.

    22 And if ye have no hope ye must needs be in despair; and despair cometh because of iniquity.

    23 And Christ truly said unto our fathers: If ye have faith ye can do all things which are expedient unto me.

    24 And now I speak unto all the ends of the earth—that if the day cometh that the power and gifts of God shall be done away among you, it shall be because of unbelief.

    25 And wo be unto the children of men if this be the case; for there shall be none that doeth good among you, no not one. For if there be one among you that doeth good, he shall work by the power and gifts of God.

    26 And wo unto them who shall do these things away and die, for they die in their sins, and they cannot be saved in the kingdom of God; and I speak it according to the words of Christ; and I lie not.

    27 And I exhort you to remember these things; for the time speedily cometh that ye shall know that I lie not, for ye shall see me at the bar of God; and the Lord God will say unto you: Did I not declare my words unto you, which were written by this man, like as one crying from the dead, yea, even as one speaking out of the dust?

    28 I declare these things unto the fulfilling of the prophecies. And behold, they shall proceed forth out of the mouth of the everlasting God; and his word shall hiss forth from generation to generation.

    29 And God shall show unto you, that that which I have written is true.

    30 And again I would exhort you that ye would come unto Christ, and lay hold upon every good gift, and touch not the evil gift, nor the unclean thing.

    31 And awake, and arise from the dust, O Jerusalem; yea, and put on thy beautiful garments, O daughter of Zion; and strengthen thy stakes and enlarge thy borders forever, that thou mayest no more be confounded, that the covenants of the Eternal Father which he hath made unto thee, O house of Israel, may be fulfilled.

    32 Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God.

    33 And again, if ye by the grace of God are perfect in Christ, and deny not his power, then are ye sanctified in Christ by the grace of God, through the shedding of the blood of Christ, which is in the covenant of the Father unto the remission of your sins, that ye become holy, without spot.

    34 And now I bid unto all, farewell. I soon go to rest in the paradise of God, until my spirit and body shall again reunite, and I am brought forth triumphant through the air, to meet you before the pleasing bar of the great Jehovah, the Eternal Judge of both quick and dead. Amen.

In this era missing two years of public performing is pretty much a death blow to a career, yet he is giving it up in order to follow his belief's and convictions. My hat is off to him, I am not sure I would be doing the same if I was in his shoes.

    Ok fine. Look up the actual definition of a cult. If you're judging by that, then yes, Mormonism is a cult. So is every other religious group. There are going to be different kinds of Mormons like there a different kinds of people. Some Mormons take things to the extreme–some are a lot more lax. Some are nice, some aren't so nice. So don't judge our entire religion on what our church leaders are saying, because some of us, while still believing in the Church itself, disbelieve in some of our leaders' decisions. I'm Mormon. I love gay people. I HATE the fact that whatever dumb head in our church thought black people couldn't hold the Priesthood. But a ton of active members thought that at the time, too. I'm just impressed that David Archuleta is willing to give up whatever fame (however small or big) he has for two years.

    I love when people who don't know anything just make things up. Jive did NOT drop David Archuleta. He fulfilled his contract with them for 3 albums and has generated over a million albums of sales for them. When his contract was up, they offered him an extension and he declined. And we have since seen what was going on with Jive at that time since they no longer exist.

    Even after he left Jive, David continued to make music and tour. He did a very successful tour of Asia this summer and is just finishing a Christmas tour here in the US. So, no, he was not sitting at home doing nothing and crying about his lack of career when he made this choice. I respect him for giving up everything to do this. And I'll be excited to see where his career goes when he comes back.

    Godspeed.

We are warned about the dangers of energy drinks like Red Bull, Monster and Rock Star. It is proven that Coffee is bad for your esophagus and energy drinks have unhealthy additives, and "non-LDS" people with enough sense in their head will tell you the same.

      If you know the story about "sour grapes" which tells how when the fox couldn't reach the grapes, then he decided that they were sour, so he didn't want them anyway. To me this seems how some leave the church, maybe they are unable to live the high moral standards or decide they want to sin awhile instead, but then they get so far lost they think they can't return, so then they suddenly decide that the church is wrong for a bunch of reasons they never somehow noticed before. This might be to "save ego"? It is really sad to me because repentance is for everyone. Jesus died for all our sins if we will repent of them and come unto him and obey his commandments. It is through baptism that our sins are washed away. May God bless us all with whatever we need most.

    How can the mormons have the true church? They use an additional bible written by Joseph Smith. They use books that are proven to be faked? I have no doubt that there are very nice people in the church and that the church does perform some good things. But the fact that they have their own bible (which is against the holy bible) is proof enough that they are not the "true religion"

      It's not replacing the Bible in fact the bible is a focal point in our religion The Book of Mormon illustrates this to you, the cover reads: "THE BOOK OF MORMON: ANOTHER TESTAMENT OF JESUS CHRIST", “another” meaning in addition to, not replacing. Several passages from the bible speak of another book of Christ, Isaiah 29:11-12, for instance, prophesies about Joseph Smith and the Book Of Mormon.

      THE BOOK OF MORMONISM:

      – The history of America does not match the geography described in the BOM.

      – NO records of Israel ever show that the Lamanites were ever a tribe in Israel, but EVERY tribe talked about in the bible ( Benjamites, Phillistines, etc. ) are all backed up by records.

      – It is impossible that there was a WHOLE other tribe in Israel that set off in a boat journey (on ancient row boats) to America would leave behind no records or archaeology. Every tribe and city talked about in the bible have been found to exist by archaeologists, why would this one be any different?

      – For example, cities talked about in the Bible like the City of David and Bet Sheba STILL EXIST, and have kept the same names.

      – The BOM names cities and tells the geography of them, but no city like the ones described in the BOM have ever been found.

      – If you want to go to cities named in the Bible like Jerusalem, you can! But if you want to go to Zarahemla (a city in the BOM), you can't because it never existed, and scientists have found NO evidence, geography, or records EVER showing that it did.

      – The BOM says that there were HORSES and ELEPHANTS and STEEL in America in ancient times. But, its a commonly known fact that horses were brought by the Spanish in the 1700's. Steel wasn't invented yet, and elephants definiteley weren't in America during those times either! It's just that Joseph Smith (THE PERSON WHO FABRICATED THIS FICTIONAL BOOK) wasn't knowledgable enough to create a setting in America that matched ancient times.

      – The BOM describes plants, animals, and metals that DIDN'T exist in America during the time the story of the Lamanites supposedly took place.
      -In the BOM it is said that the Nephites were "An Empire of Writing and Literature", yet they left NO records of themselves?

      – They have found original pieces of The Bible, but NO original copies of the BOM have been found.
      – Joseph Smith supposedly translated the bible from a language called "Reformed Egyptian" to "English". But, he only knew ENGLISH (according to people who knew him.)

      – Oh, and also, Reformed Egyptian is a FAKE language that never existed... HE MADE IT UP! Any Scientist that specializes in languages will tell you that no such thing exists or existed.

      – The BOM describes coins that they used to use in Ancient America, but nobody has ever found coins in ALL of the American Continents (South and North) that outdate the Europeans.

      – Unlike in the bible... it describes coins, and archaeologists have found over 90,000 coins alike the ones described in the bible.

      – We've found archaeology and evidence of SMALL battles that were described in the bible, but have found no evidence of ANY battles described in the Book Of Mormon.

      – One battle in the BOM supposedly took 2 million lives. That is a HUGE battle, but no evidence was ever found that that existed. But in the bible it describes battles as small as 600 people that have been PROVEN to have happened by Archaeology.

      – When they find places like "Jerusalem" that existed in Bible times, Christians are eager to dig them up, and when they do, they find TONS of archaeology... but when Mormons find places they CLAIM to be ancient Mormon cities, they never dig them up, because they fear that they'll find nothing. (Why do they fear that? NOTHING has ever been found before!)

      – Mormons refuse to excavate the Hill-Kamora (Spell check).

      – The book of Mormon has 1000's of grammatical and geographical and physical mistakes.... all that have been CORRECTED by the board of Mormons who oversee the BOM. Unlike the Bible which hasn't ever been MODIFIED because of mistakes.

      – AND this is funny... you know how Mormons will always TELL you they ARE Christians?: The PRESIDENT of the MORMON CHURCH is on video/audio saying:
      " We do not believe in the Christian Christ. "

      I'm so sorry that it seems so many on here, have believed stuff that is not true about Mormons. For instance, We not only believe the Bible (we use the KJV) we actually give anyone who asks for one a FREE one! (we promote people reading it!) and the Book of Mormon, is a second witness for Jesus Christ. (you can get a free one mailed to you just like the Bible too, just go to Mormon.org). There you can also look up FAQ or have a live chat. Then you can speak with more intelligence about others beliefs, but please let Mormons, LDS explain them.
      Also, we have always had blacks in our churches, in our benches, we have never been segregated, but the priesthood was held in reserve for them till God said it was time. That time did not come under the press of protestors but years later with the humble pleading of the Prophet President Kimball.
      We certainly are not the same as FLDS – any more than Protestants are still in the Catholic church. (Any who practice plural marriage today and for the past 120 years are excommunicated)

So keep spreading your opinions it only builds us up, and if you choose to learn the truth we will welcome you with open arms. Although I would love to add that when the Mormon Church in Kamloops, BC sent a request via the man who fathered my daughter, asking me to sign a letter stating I would not be looking for child support while her father served on a mormon mission it sent a message that the mormon church does not acknowledge non mormon children as being deserving. The church and the birth father thought that baptizing him mormon and supporting him while he knocked on doors in another country was more valuable than raising a child that he was untilmately responsible for. If I belonged to a church that supported actions like this....I would leave!

      Hey Patti. I am sorry about your experience. It may be due to the laws in BC compared to the states. Back in the '80s when I served a mission, I had a cousin who was divorced with two children. He was able to serve a mission only after he could prove that he had put away enough money to pay this children's child support while he was away. With the missionary worthiness guidelines that are used today, a person with parent and financial responsibilities is not able to serve a mission.

      Helping others? Only in his eyes. The "mission" is to convert as many people as they possibly can. PERIOD. Help others? Nothing farther from the truth. Very much sugar coating the actual reason for going on a mission. I am a recovering Mormon and an well versed in the point of one's "mission" CONVERT CONVERT CONVERT. That is the entire complete point. To convince others that when married in the Temple after they die they will than becomes God's of their own planet. People of color are welcome because paying tythe is the point. However people of color are NOT allowed to hold any preisthood rank. They are only welcome participants. The reason...you want to know? Well when Jesus was in America and assended into heavan only took thosw who were "worthy". The people left behind wanted to go to heavan so badly they climbed the highest mountain they could find and because it was so close to the sun their skin turned dark....UM...HELLO! Very good people in the church. YES! But the beleifs are so strange I had to exit before I was going to go nuts!

      Faith can't prove anything. That's why it is called faith. You have faith that something is true in the absence of any evidence or proof. With science we can conjecture, test, and prove or disprove theories with virtual certainty. While there is always a chance our understanding will change and previously held truths will be proven wrong, we can always keep working to uncover the truth. No one can prove anything when it comes to religion. It's all just stories people choose to believe in.

      I concur Guy. Science has proven alot more than religion has. Religion's are based on made up stories and never change. Science may change but at least it is getting some where. Where would we be today with out science? Certainly not in front of our computers typing out these comments. If we only relied on religion we would still be riding horses and killing others who didn't follow our religion. Waiting for God to some day show his face on judgement day, or what ever that day is that so many people have been and continue to wait for.

    No BYU Tv you are not a loser. The fact that you state facts is according to Mormans hateful. Why is their religion so secretive. If there is nothing to fear then why hide things and let a rational discussion begin. I still can't see past the fact that Joseph Smith fired at people when he was martyred. A martyr does not fire at people, yet this fact is overlooked. I don't hate the Mormans but sending a man out on a mission where he can not have contact with his familhy or friends sounds like BRAINWASHING. When you are repeatedly told not to discuss your religion with others or view them as heathens and treat them as such, yeah my wife was treated this way at a party once. She told me to respect them and their religion, when she came back she changed her mind.

      See my post above, namely referring to learning to spell... And I'm just curious, as far as defining martyr, does it say you can't die fighting? Correct me if I'm wrong, but he did in fact die over his beliefs, and that classifies as a martyr. And I especially enjoy the old 'brainwashed' argument – go look up all of just the famous Mormons* (there's your spelling, just in case you're too brainwashed/inbred to not have caught it yourself), excluding the millions of others, who pay 10% of their income, many gave 2 years of their time to promote their faith, and give countless hours of unpaid service... I'd have to say that's one awesome brainwash job... or could it be that they've thought it out and simply believe it's true? Crazy I know, and before you go nit-picking any particular belief (which I doubt you can accurately do, seeing as you most likely get your info from anti-Mormon websites or your preacher, who is financially motivated to keep you under their thumb), as far as Christians go, many have oddities – Catholics believe they're actually eating Christ's body and drinking his blood during communion, all of the other sects are all break offs of the Catholic church, and if modern day revelation is such an outlandish idea (Joseph Smith), they're all man made counterfeits of the Catholics... I can't wait to hear some well thought out reply!!

      I beg of you, sir, to get some REAL education on the Mormon faith. It is unclear who you’ve been encountering, but it appears that they have been pretending to be a Mormon and be, as you put it, secretive. I can assure you, however, that as a Mormon, we aren’t any more secretive than any other religion. Every Mormon I know has never shied away from a real discussion on the true history and beliefs of our faith. In fact, I encourage people outside of my faith to ask me any question they want about the Mormon faith as I’d rather be able to tell them the truth and set the record straight than continue to see them run around with untruths in their head and continuing to perpetuate lies, misunderstandings, and other rumors which are often misguided and vile to say the least.

      As for your mission/brainwashing comment: did you ever stop to consider the strength of character and independence that one can gain from such a worthy endeavor? Aside from missionaries of other religions or any of this country’s brave service men and women who have been deployed, I doubt anyone could understand the faith, strength of character, and determination it takes to sacrifice and serve in such a caring and educational opportunity. And just so you know, as a man who completed a mission for my church, I can tell you that the Mormon missionaries are encouraged to write a letter to their parents weekly and are permitted to phone their parents on Christmas and one other day (usually Mother’s Day).

      And finally, regarding your “repeatedly told not to discuss your religion with others or view them as heathens and treat them as such” remark. Again, you are way off base. I grew up in the Mormon faith as did several generations before me. I’ve never been told not to discuss our religion and I’ve never been instructed to, nor on my own decided to view others as heathens. I’d like to challenge you to review your remarks and gain some insight on the true nature of things before you launch another rant that is based in misunderstandings or falsehoods.

      Actually, blacks have always been members of the church, from the very earliest days. It was only the priesthood that was an issue, but if you read the Old Testament, you'll see that when the priesthood of Aaron was first introduced, only his family could hold it and they had to be not only a certain race, but they couldn't have any blemishes or disabilities. The priesthood was never available to everyone withut restrictions in Biblical times. The church never taught that blacks were cursed. Some Mormons–including leaders–believed it, but it was never doctrine. Unlike many churches, Mormon leaders are allowed to have personal opinions where there is no official doctrine. It's instructive to read what Bruce R. McConkie said when blacks got the priesthood. He was the primary source for some of the false information, and he very humbliy and correctly explained that he had been wrong.

They are very moral, clean of body, and spiritual. Just because you don't understand doesn't mean normal people like us don't. We see our Latter day saint neighbors, and know them to be very devout and loving. Despite your misunderstanding of their doctrine, Just spend ten minutes with an active member of the church and you'll see they are Christians of the highest caliber.

      Yes. And until 38 AD (8 years after Christ died), the chosen people of Israel could not mingle with gentiles. It was against the law. In 38 AD Peter baptized the first gentile ever because he finally was given a revelation that it was OK to teach the Gospel to non Jewish people for the first time in over 3,000 years. It was a real shocker! According to the New Testament, the other Apostles and disciples couldn't believe that he was doing it! What was really "atrocious" is that Peter actually BAPTIZED a Roman centurion!!! It was appalling!

      .....He's currently finishing up a sold out Christmas tour with 13 sold out concerts, and if you estimate that those pay a (lowish) base fee of ~$150,000 per concert without considering his cut of the ticket sales... you can do the math. Also the point about him being dropped by his label – clearly you're not familiar with the context – Jive Records was in dire economic straits due to the recession at the time and closed down in October, so him getting "dropped" was more of a sign of the broader economic environment than a reflection of his quality as a musician.

      Either way he's already made more money than any of us have and probably could just be hanging around and setting up a tour for a month.

      Well, have fun bashing someone who you've never met and know little about. You're setting a great example, adults. If you are actually an adult.

      No one has tolerance anymore. Religion is slowly becoming obsolete. No one needs it anymore and if you are a strict follower of any religion, people see you as a weirdo. It's just the truth. People who bad mouth others have the same rights as everyone else. They are allowed to say what ever they are thinking. It's called freedom of speech. People are slowly learning that all these different religions don't mean what they used to. They are all made up by people we don't know. How can you be sure they know what god wants you to do? How do they know Jesus really existed? None of them have brought forth any tangible evidence. So in reality...these followers are just listening to some weirdo who made up their own religion and were able to convince these people that they are right and that they should do as they are commanded. Sheep, basically.

      I recall Mormon missionaries telling me that Jeebus came back and visited the USA somewhere near Branson, Missouri and preoclaimed, "Let there be a place here where low grade morons could find entertainment".

      @michelle, you're right – They included one too many M's in there. I should know, I am one.

      Sincerely,
      A Mor[m]on.

      Hmm... I always though of morons as people who make generalizations about an entire group.

      I'm sure there are "morons" who are Mormon, morons who are Catholic, atheist, Protestant, etc.

      If someone is a moron for having a belief that is not one YOU agree with, then we're all morons. I'm sure we all have beliefs other people don't share.

      Good for him for doing something unselfish that he believes in. How many other people would put fame and a career on hold to SERVE OTHERS for 2 years?
