Barbara Walters to Kardashians: 'You don't have any talent'Barbara Walters went for broke when interviewing the Kardashians as part of her "Most Fascinating People" special. According to the New York Post, the 82-year-old journalist told the reality star family they lack talent. During the interview with Kourtney, Khloe, Kim and mom Kris, which aired Wednesday on ABC, Walters didn’t waste any time bringing up Kim’s sex tape. "Was it a good thing to have done?” Walters asked. "I have certainly made mistakes in my life, for sure," Kim said of the video that made her famous. Kris Jenner called the sex tape “devastating.”
Barbara asked which of the girls is mom Kris Jenner's favorite, and - surprise, surprise - the sisters all answered Kim, while Kris played coy. Khloe came back with another zinger for her “momager”: "It's whoever gives her the most percentage rights.” Walters also brought up the “famous for being famous” critique. "You don't really act; you don't sing; you don't dance,” she told the women. “You don't have any – forgive me — any talent!" "But we're still entertaining people," Khloe responded. "I think it's more of a challenge for you to go on a reality show, and get people to fall in love with you for being you," Kim added. As for Kim’s recent quickie marriage, it wasn’t mentioned because the interview was taped in September. Kardashian filed for divorce from Kris Humphries on Halloween.

I never liked the Kardashian's nor do I have any desire to watch their show. I've heard they will do anything to make a buck, to the point of cutting deals with unsavory, ethically challenged credit card companies. Sure, they are more than annoying, but what really aggravates me is that we have Ryan Seacrest to thank for this kind of garbage TV being forced on the American public. He's the show's producer. Please Ryan, is it too much to ask that you produce a show doesn't include reality so many, talentless reality TV bimbos? I scolded my Mother for watching this show. “Most Fascinating People” does not necessarily mean fascinating in awe inspiring way. They have high ratings and they capture the eye of the public. It goes both ways and that is why she included them… perhaps to get their take on why they are so popular when they have , as she points out, no talent.

In fact, if I had been her instead of interviewing them, I would have wanted to speak to their press agents. Those are the people who would be more interesting. The Simpsons are a far more entertaining family. Barbara somewhat redeems herself by rightly telling them they have no talent. But, she's part of the problem for making them a part of her "Most Fascinating" show to begin with.
Honestly, love or hate the Kardashians, they fulfill their intended purpose – to distract us. I watched about two minutes of Kim's wedding – I actually landed on the channel as guests were arriving. The whole two minutes, until I couldn't take anymore, was about bragging rights. It was the who's who of whosville showing up to Kim's wedding, and E! actually listed each celebrity guest by name as they arrived, while Kim practiced her faces in the mirror. Personally, I choose to watch The Walking Dead. In the scheme of everything it's about as useful of my time as wathcing the Kardashians, but The Walking Dead is a heck of a lot more entertaining and not afraid to be known as fiction.

We can pretend that people don't love them, but the ratings don't bare that out. If the rating weren't here, then there would be no show. I think Barbra's comments put the nail on the head. Of course she popular. She has no redeeming value as a person, contributes nothing to our society or culture, and yet she lives a great life. It's the American dream; be nothing, do nothing, have nothing expected of you, and be handed fame and wealth.

First of all, no you're not entertaining. Second, yes you can fall in love with people on TV for just being themselves. Key point here is – being you! None of you are being you while you're taping your show. Sometimes, maybe, but for the most part it's scripted, even though it's supposed to be 'reality', so that's not being you. There is nothing 'real' about your 'reality' show or many others, like the 'Housewives' series. If that's reality in your world, you really need to get out and mingle with real people who live paycheque to paycheque, if they're lucky, and have no money for 'extras' like going out for dinner, going to the movies, etc. That's reality darling!! And it's not mingling with real people when you help out at a homeless shelter for Thanksgiving and there's photographers there for the photo op!! Try volunteering somewhere out of the limelight and try actually connecting with 'real' people. Then maybe you will have a clue ... or maybe not!!
