Alicia Keys' 'Keep a Child Alive' to air on World AIDS Day

“Keep a Child Alive with Alicia Keys” will air on Thursday in honor of World AIDS Day.

The day, dedicated to uniting in the fight against HIV, is a fitting one for the Showtime documentary’s debut.

The documentary follows Alicia Keys and five young adults as they visit the Keep a Child Alive funded sites in South Africa.

“I want people to feel like you can do something about this (epidemic), and that you understand it because you find a place inside yourself that connects to the love of another human being,” Keys told CNN.

Applicants were chosen to accompany Keys to South Africa after texting the word that best described their feelings about Africa. Of the 24,000 people who applied five were selected thanks the words heartbeat, resilient, ubuntu, strength and conviction.

Keys said the young adults who made the journey with her, many of whom had never ventured outside America, felt empowered after meeting with some of the 16.6 million children have lost their parents to AIDS.

“A lot of times we feel like things going on in the word are so big and so massive and untouchable, and think, ‘What can we do, and how can we do anything.’ I think that when we see it from human to human … you will feel empowered and angered,” Keys said.

“Keep a Child Alive with Alicia Keys” premieres at 9 p.m.

Alicia Keys has been on everyone's mind lately after her smash hit collaboration with rapper Jay-Z "Empire State of Mind" made it big. She saw such success with the tune that she even went on to release her own version, "Empire State of Mind II."In more recent news the acclaimed R&B singer has been added to the bill for 2010's Essence Music Festival, set to take place in New Orleans, La. According to the San Jose Mercury News, this will be Keys' third time performing at the event, as she will be joined by other top music stars like Mary J. Blige, Keri Hilson, Jill Scott and Earth, Wind and Fire. The group of musicians will take the stage at the Louisiana Superdome July 2-4. ,,*^

My apologies to the few intelligent comments here but you idjits on here, are you completely stupid or is this a one time thing? Ms. Keys is trying to call attention to a disease that can annihilate the entire population of Earth and you people are worried about what she looks like?! I'd like to say go back to school but since it's obvious you can't spell either, never mind.

Hurtfullness of Aids is like no other, seeing a child born life without no sin like no other see yourself in the mirror everyday no scars no broken bone but reflection, tears drawn out of the eye jusr cause of wrong inmaking of a body that does yet to know we were all poison from a branch of a story unknown in your heart no five sense cant tell you have a STD only yourself and no good parent would bother to overlook usuall 24 hour duties to take them to check but maybe a good eye no light but maybe a goog friend will walk you you to the doors also walk you through a checkmark o f silence only to hold a breath within the final seconds of a answer to be honest a real to not is fake final walk through. Nobody will judge you from the untold but a mouthy disease will purple you forever. Im always a fan to good health manner enviroment st not a fan to a disease world. Thank you good matter helps, people forgiveness might not. Blessings............

I look forward to watching this show and I think Ms Keys is doing a great job helping and making others aware of the need of these people . To actually show the people who are affected by this disease and realize what they have to go through makes the situation a lot more real to us. Not many celebrities would go this far to help and feel as deeply concerned as Alicia. She is an angel to many people. Even though Africa is suppose to be doing better because of all the help they've been getting, it has been told that now China is also reporting many many MORE Aids cases.
