Ed Burns cranks out film for just $9,000He’s an established director/writer/actor, so you’d think Edward Burns would have a lavish budget for his latest film. But Movieline reports that Burns made “Newlyweds” on a paltry $9,000. Burns, 43, took to Twitter to reveal how he allocated the funds: “5k for actors, 2k insurance, 2k food and drink. 9k in the can.” Simple! It may not sound like much in Hollywood terms, but Burns said $9,000 was really all he needed, thanks to modern movie-making technology. “True, you do need a few grand [to make a movie],” he writes. “But you used to need a few million.”
(The actor mentions going "hat in hand" to fund the project, but couldn't he and supermodel wife Christy Turlington have paid for it themselves?) “Newlyweds” stars Burns and Caitlin Fitzgerald as a married couple whose sisters invade their honeymoon. The movie closed out the Tribeca Film Festival this year, and will be available December 26 through On Demand. The romantic indie will hit select theaters in January 2012. |
