Full recovery expected for Adele post-surgery

After a series of cancellations this year due to vocal issues, Adele has undergone throat-related surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and the medical center tells CNN that the Brit singer is expected to have a full recovery.

In a statement, the hospital explains that Adele underwent laser microsurgery to put a stop to "recurrent vocal cord hemorrhage," which typically is "the result of blood vessels in the vocal cord that can rupture."

The physician who performed the procedure - who, incidentally, has also conducted a similar operation on Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler - is confident that the "Someone Like You" singer will be fine.

In late October, Adele canceled the remainder of her 2011 appearances with the announcement that she was planning to have this operation.

Earlier that month, she also pulled out of her 10-city tour in the U.S. due to vocal cord bleeding. She also postponed dates of her U.S. tour over the summer due to laryngitis.

Those who purchased tickets to see Adele at a 2011 engagement have been able to seek a refund via their point of purchase.

In the meantime, there's always "21," her lauded chart-topping album that has gone on to sell more than 2.5 million copies.

It's apparent that this thread is full of English Majors and personal trainers. Unfortunately, the article is about a SINGER who had surgery on her vocal cords. It may not be a big deal to those who don't sing, but as someone who does, I'm here to tell you it is everything to Adele. I wonder how many of the negative commenters are overweight smokers with nothing more to do than sit at a computer with a cigarette in one hand and a twinkie in the other and spout their useless gibberish about Adele's appearance. Keyboard bravery is very impressive.

Why didn't she go to a Brittish hospital? ON a separate note women with round (ie FAT) faces should not go for those 60's redo haircuts. It just makes your face look even fatter and rounder.

Massachusetts General Hospital ?!! Why on earth would she have surgery there in the U.S. when the U.K. has perfectly good socialized medicine available for free just across the pond... Hmmm...

Um, have you ever been treated by the British socialized medical system? I have. And she made the smart choice to avoid it. Their medical system is sub standard at best, and I have known several individuals whose lives have been jeapardized by the poor quality of British medcial care.

Seriously people? The article is about a very talented woman who is undergoing throat surgery and all you people can comment on is her weight? How cruel are you? SHAME ON YOU. I'm thin myself but the first thing I think when i look at someone has nothing to do with their weight. If we all were thin it would be quite a boring world, a bunch of walking clones of eachother. Be open minded.

Maybe all the people making negative comments about her looks should look in the mirror. I mean they need to ask themselves, "how successful am I that I have nothing better to do them make negative comments about someone I don't know?".

Because she's fat, and people sense that being overweight is a sign of weakness and laziness. And this woman has been given a great gift, yet she doesn't respect herself enough to take care of her body. AND because she'd be SMOKING HOT if she DID lose 60-70 lbs. AND because we want our stars to be attractive, as it's much more alluring to have a beautiful woman singing to "you" than someone that's fat.

    • Janie

60 or 70 lbs? Do you have any perception of what people weigh at all? What's awesome is, people's perception may be that she's weak or that people think they're making fun, but she's laughing all the way to the bank. She doesn't care what names fearful (actually weak) people call her. She's gorgeous and famous and legit talented. Bravo, Adele.

    • NoWay

No way this woman is gorgeous. Aside the fact that this type of judgement is totally subjective, based solely on looks Adele wouldn't stand out among a group of average women from almost any city in the world. I understand that you might think she's attractive or pretty, but gorgeous is totally overkill.

Agreed. 99% of people who are obese or fat, became that way from over-eating and lack of exercise. It's a fact that obese persons love to ignore, as they would rather blame "genes" or having children. Fat people simply don't take care of themselves. I'm not saying Adele lives off junk food, I bet she doesn't because she has really nice skin. But regular exercise is mandatory in order to maintain a balanced lifestyle. Respect yourself if you want respect from others. I'm not surprised by the cruel comments towards her weight. When you allow your weight to get out of hand, people don't take you seriously.
With that said, I love Adeles voice, and she is a very talented and beautiful woman. She is not obese by any means, but she could use regular exercise, and that goes for anybody so don't call me a hater, just saying how it is.

If this was a person you worked with, you'd barely notice she's overweight at all. She's BARELY overweight. People's perceptions are so screwy. It's ridiculous. Someone suggested she lose 60 or 70 lbs? Really? She'd be Karen Carpenter.

    • FatIsNotHealthy

Sorry Dylan, but you're an idiot and your attempt at a "comeback" is poorly thought out. Science has shown that yes, 99% of people who are overweight are that way simply because they consume more calories than they burn. Its a pretty simple fact. This Adele person, who I've never heard of before last month, doesn't appear to be that big. People are just going on and on about her weight because she isn't some hideous stick model.

That said, there is a dangerious movement in the US to make everyone think that being overweight or obese is normal and ok. Yeah, you can be overweight and still be a good person, I'm not arguing against that, but you're certainly not setting a good example of hygiene. I'm talking about all the 300 lb+ people who use that stupid Christina Aguilera song "beautiful" as inspiration for wearing spandex and a tube top, or that obnoxious trend on Facebook with the morbidly obese naked woman. No, being fat is not normal for the human race. Flip through history and the only fat people you'll find are the corrupt rulers who hoarded all the food while their people starved.

Dirty, unwashed morbidly obese person here. I've been heavy since birth. Far before I could feed myself. I have a health food nut mother, so I doubt my horrible eating habits at age 3 were the issue. I had a grandmother who was 300+ lbs and her mother before that was very heavy. I've lived in my body, with my eating habits, with my addictions and compulsions for 36 years. I'm an intelligent, thinking feeling person who has studied this condition from the inside out.

I feel safe in saying at this point that severe obesity that a person feels he or she is unable to control is a predisposition to carbohydrate dependence. It's not because someone is weak or lazy or doesn't try. It's not a personality flaw. It's a medical problem. Words from the thin who have never lived this a day in their lives are entirely meaningless. I refuse to allow someone to sit and profess to know the "true" reason 99% of overweight people are overweight. It's ridiculous.

There are people who were thin their whole lives and turned to food for emotional reasons, there are people like me who have been fat from birth, there are people who store fat more intensely after childbirth, and there are people who have metabolism issues as they age. There are many different reasons people are overweight. Stop the generalizing.

Also, Adele is barely overweight. This conversation has absolutely nothing to do with her.

@Janie – thank you for your thought out response and for giving some insight. i cant believe the cruel words spewn around sometimes. everyone has a vice, whether it be smoking, gambling, drinking – however, those vices are easy to hide. being overweight or obese? not so easy to hide. it sucks that our imperfections are on display for others to ridicule and taunt. to those of you spreading hate and calling other people names, please stop and think about yourself...are you perfect? do you have nothing in your life you are ashamed of or wish you could change?
