Friday Top Five: Wedding scenesIt's been a rough week for weddings. With all of the Kardashian klamor over her divorce - and whether she was paid to have the ceremony; the cost of all of those "fairy tale" accoutrements; and whether E! will continue to play her wedding special over and over even though we all know how that four-hour ode to narcissism ends - we fear we've grown cynical about dear old weddings. So to revive the love that may have been lost after watching this bridal brouhaha unfold over the past week, we're going to recall happier times with our top five wedding scenes. They don't all take place in front of an altar, but they do all have a wedding theme. Someone throw us a bouquet!
1. "The Godfather" - Francis Ford Coppola set the stage for his 1972 classic with Don Corleone handling business in his study, juxtaposed with the boisterous wedding scene of his daughter's big day. [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjPmaneLadQ&w=420&h=315] 2. "Father of the Bride" - This scene from the 1991 remake starring Diane Keaton and Steve Martin as the father of bride-to-be Annie (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) is, by rule, included whenever anyone anywhere talks about weddings on film. [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onunI7e5DpE&w=560&h=315] 3. "The Graduate" - Two words: "Elaine! Elaaaaaaaaine!" [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSDMwoOYzNw&w=560&h=315] 4. "The Princess Bride" - "Mawwiage. Mawwiage is what brings us together today....Mawwiage, that dweam within a dweam....treasure your wuv." [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2m6sHROA3U&w=420&h=315] 5. "Wedding Crashers" - Not a ceremony per se, but we do get to relish perhaps the most hilarious wedding receptions ever. Someone needs to throw one of these, so we can attend. [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeUSo8voIXM&w=560&h=315] We couldn't include all of the memorable wedding moments that movies have offered, so let us know your personal top five in the comments! |

I believe most memorable wedding movie is Runaway Bride
4 Weddings and a Funeral, It Happened One Night,
Big Trouble In Little China!!
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969). Too bad it starred George Lazenby instead of Sean Connery. If it had Mr. Connery in it, I am sure it would be one of the most famous wedding scenes in the history of the cinema. Diana Rigg is execellent. It's a shame that the only time Sean Connery and Diana Rigg worked together was in A Good Man in Africa. They should have been in an Indiana Jones movie (in a flashback scene).
My all time faviort wedding movie and I know alot the guys in their 30s are going to agree with me on this is Wedding Crashers and the best scean in the movie is when John and Jermy arrive at the senator daughter wedding and Jermy saids Let be the brothers from Vermont and John saids I don't know anything about Vermont, and Jermy saids I know alote about vermont and Maple syrup and I love maple. syrup and then we see John McCain in a cameo role as one of the attendies
I am also thinking of a best wedding scean in a tv epsode. Does anyone remember from growing up in the 1980s when Luke Married Laurie in a General Hospital epsode?
I think her name was laura and i think it's creepy that a girl would marry a man who raped her.
How about the wedding scene in "Steal Magnolias" leading right to the reception?. I loved the song that played immediately during the reception and the couple that did a dance during another song!!
Believe it or not, the "FURT" episode of Glee had one of the sweetest wedding scenes I've ever seen.
How about Rocky and Adrienne?
Arthur and Guenivere (sp?) in Camelot....the candles did it for me. Today it would be considered a fire hazard.
Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) in Four Weddings and a Funeral.
Absolutely the best wedding scene EVER!!
The Best Man... I didn't think Morris Chestnut's character would make it through the ceremony after finding out his fiancee screwed his best friend.
How about the 'make believe wedding'; in West Side Story? Pure, sweet romance.
So I married an axe murderer has a goog one.
Check out the hard-to-find "A New Leaf" with Walter Matthau. Hilarious film. Criminally ignored.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Why would anyone choose the remake of "Father of the Bride" over the original? Seriously? Steve Martin and who-even-remembers-her-name over Spencer Tracy and Elizabeth Taylor? Seriously?
Absolutely – Spencer Tracy's nightmare the night before is a classic and Elizabeth Taylor was the epitome of regal nuptial beauty! Also, is your tag a Wash reference? If so, SHINY!
Well, anyone can Google that. I agree.
Thanks Grandpa...
The Muppets Take Manhattan!
Sixteen Candles
Arthur
10
Sixteen Candles!
The first time I saw the Sixteen Candles wedding scene, I laughed so hard I almost couldnt breathe.
That movie never gets old, every 80's baby would agree 🙂
You are an idiot. Deer Hunter? Number 2 after Godfather.
Absolutely, nothing beats Deer Hunter!
The Deer Hunter? Oof. That scene could be cut in half.
Couldn't agree more!
Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay has a great wedding scene which includes the poem "The Square Root of Three" by David Feinberg. It's terrific. (The rest of the movie is awful.) 😉
I'm sorry but as much as I love the godfather....I have to say the best has to go the wedding band in Old school....thats classic
Coming to America...CLASSIC!
Coming to America–YES!! Absolutely!! 🙂 She's your Queeeeeen!! 🙂
The American Pie wedding was nice.
I second "Love Actually."
And, how about "The Sound of Music?"
"Love Actually"
First!
