Kim Kardashian files for divorceWell that didn't take long. Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from her husband of 72 days, professional basketball player Kris Humphries, according to court documents from L.A. Superior Court. "After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage," Kardashian, 31, says in a statement. "I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best." Update, 5:40 p.m.: Kris Humphries says in a statement, "I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce. I'm committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it work."

If there is any justice there was no prenuptial agreement, and since she's filing for divorce he can take her to the cleaners. Also, since there was so much sponsorship involved I hope there was a stipulation that if the marriage didn't last for at least a year that the money has to be returned to the sponsors, although I think anyone dumb enough to sponsor such a publicity stunt was a tool.

Everybody is trashing KK, but you have to understand that she is not ethnically European–she is Armenian. From my experience with women from Central Asia (and I lived there for two years and married a woman from there), it is not uncommon for them to consider virtuous the kind of whorish, vain, egoistic, prideful, petty personality that we disdain. She is from a different cultural background that I thinks exalts many of the traits that we view as character flaws. I am not condoning her thinking or behavior in any way, but I think the cultural factor does come into play here.

Just saw on the news she got paid 18 million $$$ for the wedding (i.e for TV coverage) & that works out to $250,000 a day for the time the cash cow, uh, I mean "marriage" lasted. Gee, how many hungry kids would that have fed? How many animal shelters would that have funded? I thought long and hard about the ramifications of marriage precisenly because I watched my own mother go through it 2x. They say raising kids is the hardest thing you'll ever do but really, staying happily married is much harder as it takes committement way beyond what parenting does as parenting and loving your children every day comes naturally, loving a spouse for 25 years takes work. So yes, for all of us out there who don't and havn't made these types of incredibly moronic mistakes I take offense to people like KK who make a mochery of marriage and people like you who excuse her extremely bad behavior. As if they couldn't foresee any of these "differences" in their dating period. This is the problem with reality TV and this type of behavior. It completely undermines and destroys the concept and significance of relationships, and anyone with any emotional maturity at all knows that a meaningful relationship will require some effort by both people. You don't just quit. This is a problem for a lot of women in our society too and I believe it stems from terrible role models just like this. For a lot of women in our country if something doesn't make them happy right now, they quit and move on because they're pretty and there will always be another guy waiting. The problem is deeper and people need to realize you can't rely on anyone else for your own happiness. Not even your spouse. Furthermore, when women move on and quit and never work through their relationship problems, they are setting themselves up to be permanently lonely. Because they don't and won't ever understand that nobody is perfect and everyone has faults and if you run the minute someone disappoints you in the slightest then you're never going to learn what love truly is and means and that to love someone is work, effort, and a choice - not just a feeling.
