Macy's T-Day parade gets Tim Burton balloonA creepy creation by director Tim Burton is ready to join this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The New York Times reports that next month, a Burton-designed balloon will float next to familiar faves like Snoopy and Spider-Man. The mind behind movies including “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Beetlejuice” and “Edward Scissorhands” has created a character called B. Boy for the November 24 event. “It’s such a surprise to be asked, and it was great,” Burton told the paper. “It’s such a surreal thing that you don’t even believe what you’re hearing. Somebody’s trying to play a joke on you or something. It had that kind of feeling.” While you were working...Today's news you might've missed:
Cringe-worthy moments on 'Grey's'Last night's episode, aptly titled "Poker Face" (and not Lady Gaga's), was all about masks, disguises and putting up walls. Meredith and Derek have thrown themselves into their work, yet promised one another that they will not discuss work at home. Meredith - in pink scrubs! - is doing a rotation in obstetrics, which Cristina sensitively refers to as "slumming it" with "The Vagina Squad." After telling Meredith that the idea of her dear friend becoming an OB/GYN makes her "nauseous," she shrieks, "We have standards, Meredith!" Cristina further fuels the fire upon learning that Meredith is involved with the clinical trial by saying, "you're wasting your fifth year playing around with vaginas and mice." Catherine Zeta-Jones lands role in 'Broken City'Catherine Zeta-Jones’ last big starring role was in 2007 rom com “No Reservations,” but CZJ is prepping for a comeback: Entertainment Weekly reports that she’s signed on for upcoming crime drama “Broken City.” Zeta-Jones, 42, joins Russell Crowe and Mark Wahlberg in the neo-noir, slated for release in 2014. After a hard year dealing with bipolar II disorder and husband Michael Douglas’s cancer treatment, the Oscar-winning actress will begin working on her next big project in November. ![]() Weeklies cheat sheet: Over before it beganWhatever the situation between Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher is or was, that's been replaced with speculation that Kim Kardashian is having marital problems of her own. Although we just saw her marriage special on TV earlier this month, there are rumors that each newlywed has been spotted without their respective rings and they're already headed for splits-ville. That, plus the perpetual story that Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lopez are dating, in this edition of weeklies cheat sheet. A visit from Mom on 'The Big Bang Theory'I'm gonna level with you. As great as Laurie Metcalf is in pretty much every role she's ever played, the episodes where she guest stars as Sheldon's mom are not my favorites. It kind of seems like there's not much left in the well to go back to with her, unfortunately (though I think there's still a lot more that could be done with Christine Baranski as Leonard's mom). Don't get me wrong, the episode had its share of great one-liners ("There's a lot of harm in trying something new. That's why we test out drugs and cosmetics on bunny rabbits"), and I enjoyed her playing off Leonard and taking all of the characters to church. |
